Mobile data always active - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Hidden away, in Developer options, is an option to keep mobile data always active. Even when wifi is active, for fast network switching. I assume that we want this enabled? Just curious.

I've had it on for awhile now, on different phones and from I've noticed it's for fast Network switching. Never had an issue with it being on all the time. Orero and earlier had an option for wifi being aggressive in handing over to carrier data when wifi was poor. Don't see it in pie now. I would have that option as well as the option in for mobile data always active

Disable DATA keeping MMS enabled

I'm testing a lot of ROM to find the best rom for me. I think that ICS Genesis Beta9 is the one. But, i'd like to find a feature that was on MIUI : keep the possibility to receive MMS even if the DATA are desactivated. If someone can tell me if there is a way to do it.
Thanks!

Like using wifi instead or what?
More like keeping 3G open for MMS but other data can't use it (the 3G connection)

I have never seen or heard of this even when i had a MIUI rom for a couple months. Seems very innovative though i wish they did this by default!

I guess you could download a type of firewall and just block every other program from using data.

restrict phone to txt/phonecall only

I'm due to go to cuba tomorrow and would like to know if there is an east way to restrict my one x to only phone calls and txts.
I really dont want it to start downloading apps etc at £25 per 3MB!

I think with data roaming turned off you should be good to go.

And Mobile Network on the first screen, you can turn it off and you will never have data connection. As posted above, data roaming is off by default. So you won't incurre roaming data costs.
It's not just data, International roaming call and text will cost you an arm and leg too.

[Q] WiFi Optimisation

I've heard from some places it improves the battery, and other places it has a negative effect. But what is true? Does the WiFi Optimisation actually do anything at all, and if it does, what exactly does it do? Thanks in advance for any answers

Wifi optimization is letting the device fully use the wifi radio at its max speed so if you have a 100mb connection and if that setting is uncheck it would get 100mb fully but if it's check it may use only maybe 34-55mb to conserve the battery used by the wifi radio it's best to leave it on

Always on roaming?

My phone always displays "R" on top of the signal bar even though roaming is off. How do I disable this? I can't use my mobile data because of this. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!
What ROM are you on? I suppose its some Nougat ROM since the R is only displayed in Nougat.
Anyways the R is displayed since you are roaming. It will show the R no matter you have enabled roaming or not.
And you eill have to enable Data Roaming to access Mobile Data.

[Crowdsourcing] 4G/3G/2G Icon Always Showing Even if Mobile Data is Off

Hello!
So I used to have an EVA-L19C636 on Nougat and tried rebranding it to an EVA-AL10 on Oreo. After doing that, I noticed that the 4G/3G/2G icons are always there even if Mobile data is turned off. This isn't the case with Nougat, as it would only show once you turn on Mobile data.
This is how it looks like in Oreo:

So I was wondering if anyone knows how to disable this?

I'm actually referring to a way involving editing system files, not just for some switch in the Settings or something. Thanks for the input, though. :good:
