Why does Odin flash .tar but not .bin? - General Questions and Answers

(This is on a phone with corrrupted EFS so for all I know that could be the problem)
When I try to flash a modem.bin file with Odin to my 928F it sticks on "File analysis...". However if I add it to a tar with 7zip it flashes with no error. Why?

Are you trying to flash the modem.bin in the AP or PDA slot? Or are you flashing it in the Phone slot in Odin?
Modem.bin should be able to flash with no issues when placed in the Phone slot in Odin.

It was labeled Phone in older versions of Odin but it's called CP in the newer versions. It should be flashing, maybe an older version of Odin will flash it, a version that has the slot labeled Phone instead of CP.

pit file question.

can we use the pit file from gingerbread to odin stock kd1?
DON'T USE PIT FILES. Unless you've read somewhere with specific instructions on using a pit file, don't use it! Most of the time you'll only need a PDA file in Odin.
But to answer your question, I believe you're asking if you can odin back to KD1 from Gingerbread? Yes you can, if you're able to put your phone into download mode, you can Odin whatever rom (Odin-compatible rom) you want on it.
because i have that gingerbread boot loader on froyo.

Does anyone have 'Blaze 4g LB 7.tar file'?

Hi guys,
I'm looking for "blaze 4g LB7.tar file" so that I can flash radio through odin.
I downloaded .zip file, but it doesn't work with odin.
Does anyone have it?
U cannot flash a radio through Odin. U flash a custom recovery and flash the radio from there
Also as a side note one thread I usually enough...
You CAN flash a radio through Odin. It goes in the phone slot instead of the PDA slot. But no I don't know of a tar file for that radio

How to use mobile odin?

Hi
I have rooted my note 10.1 n8000, but want to get ota again. Do i just have to flash stock recovery in mobile odin under the section recovery and then it will get ota and still be rooted?

The simplest way is probably to flash the stock rom again. Then by default with no other options checked you will be stock. Details of Mobile Odin here
But you will loose root....
If you download the Stock rom from sammobile then you can flash it through mobile ODIN. You need to download file (zip file), unzip it and put the .md5 file on your sd card or internal storage. Run Mobile ODIN, if you haven't run it before it will need to download some files, then pick OTA/update and select where you put it. Select the file, make sure everoot options are ticked and wipe cache and dalvik are ticked too... Click on flash firmware and it will ask if you want to check the md5 checksum, do this as it checks if the file isn't complete or is corrupted, it won't flash. If all is ok it will ask again giving the usual warnings. If you aren't scared off by the warnings it will flash the firmware. I tend to have a greater than 50% charge when doing this and usually have it plugged into power.
After flash completes and it loads into Android you will still have root but will be on stock recovery. You will need to either use PC ODIN or mobile ODIN to restore this...

If someone hasn't taken any updates prior to the new one, once it releases for their device, do they need to apply each update individually prior to the newest one?
Can anyone confirm that flash is still usable in JB?

[CWM] [RECOVERY] CLOCKWORKMOD V 6.0.3.2 for GT-S7500L

I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone if you flash this file to your phone.
Updated to Cwmod recovery version 6.0.3.2 for GT-S500L
I recommend you use heimdall to flash it.
I don't recommend to use odin, but I packaged it to be flashable with odin anyway . It seems some people have problems with odin YMMV.
I recommend to use heimdall
In the attachments is the original recovery.img so you can revert to stock if you want.
Bugs:
Power button is the only one that works to select current option
Requirements:
Linux:
p7zip
heimdall
Windows:
7-zip
heimdall or odin
How to install :
Using heimdall:
Linux:
Unpack it
1)7z e cwmod-GT-S7500L.zip
2)7z e cwmod-GT-S7500L.tar.md5 ; you will get file recovery.img
You could also use unzip then rename to just .tar then extract recovery.img using tar
Flash it
1) put phone in download mode
2) connect phone to pc
3) heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img or heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img
Windows :
1)unpack zip file to get tar.md5 file then again to get recovery.img
2) put phone in download mode
3) connect phone to pc
I guess is the same command in command line
4) heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img
Using Odin: (You should be using heimdall)
Unpack zip file to get cwmod-GT-S7500L.tar.md5
1) Put phone in download mode
2) Run Odin, connect the phone to PC
3) Click on 'PDA' and choose the 'cwmod-GT-S7500L.tar.md5' file
4) Press the Start Button, wait for reboot.

Try something else then, 3 times is a lot, install heimdall go to http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/ scroll down a bit and youll see the download links then try to flash recovery.img with it.

I don't trust Odin that much (the author himself agrees with it here), and I have never used Heimdall, even when I'm Linux user. I just felt safer by copying the CWM file to the phone and using stock recovery to apply the update.
By the way, my base band version is S7500LVJLA5, I'm still in total stock (no custom CWM, no custom ROM). Do you think it could work on mine?
And what Heimdall version should I use? It's said 1.3.2 broke compatibility...

While I've never had a problem with Odin in the last 4 years, you make an interesting point.
I'll give Heimdall a try sometime in the future.
I know this is a bit offtopic, by have you, Elruki or Corsario_Negro, tried TheWhisp's CM 10 or 10.1?

Maybe the bootloader in what you are flashing is older than your current bootloader and it's blocking it from flashing, you can't downgrade bootloader on most Samsung devices that have Android 4.3 or newer.
Or maybe you need to flash your stock kernel by itself and then flash the complete firmware.

You will have to convert the kernel to a .tar or .tar.md5 to flash it with Odin, flash it in the AP slot.
