Do I Wait For 8.0 on ? FRD-L14 - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

My other device is out of order right now so I switched back to my old Honor 8.
When I did I received 2 updates.
But still did not get 8.0 is it something you a to do manually?

If the L14 is an American model then you won't get it. It's not out. Otherwise, you'll need to update via hisuite for the official way

Does using the hisuite to update it erase everything on the Honor 8 ?

Yes. Anytime you update to a new Android version a factory reset is mandatory

You can make a backup by using Huawei's own Backup app.

yes you should wait B560 update with 8.0 showed up for L04 and L14 on FF

Does anybody know if the American model is still going to get 8.0? This is just sad now.

Personally I gave up on waiting and flashed the unofficial frimware from FF. I'm more than happy with stock Oreo, it's smooth and battery life is amazing (you can tweak each application with more settings than in Nougat). Right now I'll stay on stock but I know I have custom ROM if I get tired of it which is also rly nice

I thought I would get the official updates so I never got the free unlock bootloader code. This sucks since I paid cash for this at Best Buy

I'm on Oreo B560 for the L14. Can I relock the bootloader using fastboot so that I can use Google pay or will this brick my phone? I don't really use root apps. Other than that Oreo works great.

[CLOSED] Moto X style Nougat is rolling out

Prepare your devices fellas , 7.1.1 is about to roll out cause there's an article on bgr said so
I personally wanna wait 'til Xposed is compatible for nougat.

I don't see how a benchmark entry suddenly means official Nougat is rolling out anyway.
Yeah, that headline is hyperbole. It's a good indicator that it's getting closer. Not that it is about to our is rolling out.
Oh look, another Nougat roll out thread with the same image as all of the others.

Your Phone will give the message that there is an update to new software. But as soon you will try to install it, it will fail.
OTA can't be installed on custom recovery, you need te be on stock rom, stock recovery and unrooted.
There are a few posts on the general section to go back to scratch, or just wait till a developer makes an stock based rom on 7.1.

Do you mean FlashFire? flashfire warns you that Motorola devices are Experimental.
Isn't it risky to from 6 to 7 with flashfire? And sure you may not have Xposed Framework installed.

Flashfire is of course what I meant, Doh on my part!! Never had any issues with it working with my Moto X Style. I would imagine that Motorola have factored in that the majority of their users will still be running an out of date version of Android and that it will go from 6 to 7 with little if any issues. I'll be giving it a try from a custom 7.1.1 rom first before wiping my device and trying it that way, once (if!) it comes out of course.

Go back to MM, good idea?

Hi,
I'm using android 7.0 with emui 5 but I would downgrade to MM.
Will I have some security problems if I refuse updates and stay with MM?

Hi,
I start using H8 wiht Android 6 and EMUI 4. Every things works fine. Finaly I decided to update to Android 7 and EMUI 5. I read that some people have problem with battery. In my case every thing works fine. Overall if You dont have any problems especially with battery I recommend stay in Androis 7 and EMUI 5.
My advice whachout for upgrade software to B381. I instaled it yesterday and i see some standbay drain battery. I dont started panic but I will wait couple days and see what is changed.

Problem with FRD-L14! *App not responding*

I'm having an issue with my FRD-L14!
I encountered a problem a couple weeks ago when my phone died of low battery. Once I charged it and turned it back on, all of a suddenly all of my apps were unresponsive. And when I say all of the apps, I mean ALL of the apps. I began receiving notifications of the apps that weren't responding and it was asking me to wait or close app. I tried both and had no outcome. I restarted the phone a few times thinking maybe it was a bad boot.. Nothing. Finally, I did a factory reset and everything began working fine.. Until I decided to turn my phone off again (This was the last time my phone had been turned completely off since the factory reset) and the issue arose again. All of my apps are not responsive. Sometimes I cannot even get into settings. I also do not receive any calls/texts during this time either.
I am NOT rooted and I do not have an unlocked bootloader. Completely stock.
Please Help!
Sounds weird...maybe you can try reflashing the firmware? What version are you using? Nougat or Marahmallow?

Nougat.. Everything I have is stock and updated to the latest firmware.
Okay, in that case i would have made a rollback to marshmallow first, then flashing the full marshmallow firmware (latest avaible on honor site) and finally update again to nougat with OTA.
I think it's the best thing you can do

UPDATE!
After a rollback and OTA update back to Nougat using Proxy Firmware Finder, everything is working fine.
The only thing I've noticed is that my build number is "NRD90M test-keys". I'm not sure if this will affect any future OTA updates or not. It was very difficult to find a full update package for the FRD-L14 version. The model number still reflects FRD-L14 though.
Side note: I think the entire cause of the problem was I did the trick from the link below. It worked and I had been using it for a long time. In the comments of that thread, I've noticed others having the issue after reboot as well... Must be a Huawei thing.

Looked at Firmware Finder but unsure if this will work with an un-rooted Mate?
Also, the reviews of the App seem rather negative and so I'm wary of doing this and then bricking the phone or running into problems.
Are there any other ways to get the Oreo update?
MHA-L29 (C432) here, fully stock. Got tired of waiting for the Oreo OTA so used Firmware Finder a couple of weeks ago. Running 8.0.0.366 now. Check some YT tutorials and do it, you'll be fine.
I prefer to update system software via OTA other than via any 3rd-party ways.

I'm kind of the same way. I use to root, flash, and modify all the time, but as Android has matured over the years,
for what I use a phone for, I just don't screw with it. Shoot, at the end of the day, unless someone calls me,
I never pick it up til the next morning.

Likewise. Just remember sometimes for reasons only known to Huawei your IMEI might never end up getting approved and you'll be stuck running an unpatched outdated firmware version. Firmware Finder uses some DNS/proxying trickery to get around that, it doesn't tamper with your ROM/device in any way.
I got all OTAs before Oreo. By the end of March I had enough with waiting and successfully used FF to jump to 8.0.0.366. I would advise you to do the same if nothing has come through yet even if just for those security patches.
I got my phone through the 3 network. There hasn't been an update since November. I'm getting the impression they've just stopped updating this phone sadly.
I used firmware finder for the first time and found it easy and straightforward. Used the proxy method. I'm now on Oreo with march security update. Phone is quicker and battery life is better.
Was a bit skeptical about firmware finder myself but I'm happy with it after giving it go. Would prefer OTA but it's far too slow.

In general, you had better check and get system software update from OTA unless you have rooted your devices. OTA is the official way to get update.
All my Oreo-based updates have been through FF using the proxy method. FullOTA always. No issues whatsoever. Running 8.0.0.368(C432) atm.
I would still be stuck in Nougat if it wasn't for FF.
