Go back to MM, good idea? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'm using android 7.0 with emui 5 but I would downgrade to MM.
Will I have some security problems if I refuse updates and stay with MM?

Hi,
I start using H8 wiht Android 6 and EMUI 4. Every things works fine. Finaly I decided to update to Android 7 and EMUI 5. I read that some people have problem with battery. In my case every thing works fine. Overall if You dont have any problems especially with battery I recommend stay in Androis 7 and EMUI 5.
My advice whachout for upgrade software to B381. I instaled it yesterday and i see some standbay drain battery. I dont started panic but I will wait couple days and see what is changed.

Okay, like how did you get to that point, and how can I do the same?
Is there any real advantage to running MM instead of LP?
I'd probably lose the ability to install ViPER4Android if I went to MM and that would not be good, so there would have to be solid advantages to having MM.

Doze to give you better battery management , a lot of apps now are only compatible with lollipop and up.
But its your choice if you are happy with JB you can stick with it.

Hello, I am thinking of getting this phone but I'm worried about not being able to update to 6.0. I currently have the OnePlus One and I'm on 6.0 and I love all the new features. To get M working on this do I have to simply, unlock the bootloader, root the phone, install custom recovery (TWRP) and then download the rom + gapps to make it work? That is the standard process for other phones, I just want to make sure I won't have any issues before I buy the phone.
Thanks for your help in advance.

i do B326 to B511 all thing are good but i see 2 notes:
1 - i don't find my explorer internet .
2- i don't find my loupe.
If you want to try MM on Mate 7, you start with a standard phone. Stock recovery etc. Just drop the genuine Huawei update or stock ROM into the dload folder on SD card and start update from the OS running normally. Can also start update in recovery mode.
Have to be very careful to only use an update or ROM that is compatible though. If you use the wrong one it bricks the OS. I think differences in CUST folder, maybe partition sizes and such.

I would recommend getting the phone, but still sticking with the OP1 for a while, as you will definitely not appreciate EMUI. There's this really awesome guy working on getting Cyanogenmod 13 running on the device. He just made a massive breakthrough with getting GPU drivers running, so it can be anything from a few more days to weeks before we have a stable-enough build.
Check out his thread for more details and updates.

Help with B380 update

Hello everyone! After updating my Honor 8 L09 to B360 version via Hi-care application, I found that after a few weeks was already available the B380 version of the software that was going to correct the problem to the battery found when upgrading to Nougat. In recent days, I sent a private message on twitter to page Honor Italy asking for the note when I could receive such updates, and they said that it is already being distributed. However I had read here on XDA that the deadline for receiving the OTA was 14/03, but still does not get me any update notification nor from the system software update either from Hi-care. According to you, I'm forced to proceed with FF? Should I wait? Thank you in advance.

I would wait.
As the update didn't really make that much difference I can't see any reason for you to rush out and use the FF.
It seams to me that people are getting a more stable phone if they stick to official updates.
Wait it will come
When I last searched, I traced the 14th March deadline to German Honor forums. If they do the rollout gradually (as they tend to do), it might take a little more time for other countries. Patience is a virtue.

I do not think the update was canceled, partly because Honor Italy has confirmed that will come! However I think @b1tt1're right, then perhaps the time will lengthen
You're right, it wasn't cancelled. It is downloading right now in the stock systemupdate app on my phone.
I'm italian, too, and still no update in system update.

In Austria, thereĀ“s also no update to B380 available.
we are assuming that the update distribution algorithm is based on the nation, but there may be various criteria according to which updates are distributed.
I'm having no success installing it, though. It fails the update complaining it "failed to check the update files"... I don't know if it's a problem with the update or my phone.

You left the phone on stand-by while you have lost 20% in 10 hours? You got Nougat with Hi-care and then you received the OTA B380 right? I believe it is important to understand. Honor told me that to see if your phone is suffering from battery drain, you have to charge it to 100% and leave it in airplane mode for 8-9 hours. If at this time you have lost 10% of the phone works as it should.
Sent from my FRD-L09 using XDA Labs
no, i lost 80% in 10hours ! sorry for my bad english...
i wanted to say : my battery is 100% at 7 o clock in the morning, and 15-20% at 17 o clock ....
it drains so much....
i had update by auto system updater , no hicare...
i will try the charging to 100% and airplane mode for a few hours...
edit : my honor is rooted, i think it not drain more if rooted...
Finally got it

Problem with FRD-L14! *App not responding*

I'm having an issue with my FRD-L14!
I encountered a problem a couple weeks ago when my phone died of low battery. Once I charged it and turned it back on, all of a suddenly all of my apps were unresponsive. And when I say all of the apps, I mean ALL of the apps. I began receiving notifications of the apps that weren't responding and it was asking me to wait or close app. I tried both and had no outcome. I restarted the phone a few times thinking maybe it was a bad boot.. Nothing. Finally, I did a factory reset and everything began working fine.. Until I decided to turn my phone off again (This was the last time my phone had been turned completely off since the factory reset) and the issue arose again. All of my apps are not responsive. Sometimes I cannot even get into settings. I also do not receive any calls/texts during this time either.
I am NOT rooted and I do not have an unlocked bootloader. Completely stock.
Please Help!
Sounds weird...maybe you can try reflashing the firmware? What version are you using? Nougat or Marahmallow?

Nougat.. Everything I have is stock and updated to the latest firmware.
Okay, in that case i would have made a rollback to marshmallow first, then flashing the full marshmallow firmware (latest avaible on honor site) and finally update again to nougat with OTA.
I think it's the best thing you can do

UPDATE!
After a rollback and OTA update back to Nougat using Proxy Firmware Finder, everything is working fine.
The only thing I've noticed is that my build number is "NRD90M test-keys". I'm not sure if this will affect any future OTA updates or not. It was very difficult to find a full update package for the FRD-L14 version. The model number still reflects FRD-L14 though.
Side note: I think the entire cause of the problem was I did the trick from the link below. It worked and I had been using it for a long time. In the comments of that thread, I've noticed others having the issue after reboot as well... Must be a Huawei thing.

Looked at Firmware Finder but unsure if this will work with an un-rooted Mate?
Also, the reviews of the App seem rather negative and so I'm wary of doing this and then bricking the phone or running into problems.
Are there any other ways to get the Oreo update?
MHA-L29 (C432) here, fully stock. Got tired of waiting for the Oreo OTA so used Firmware Finder a couple of weeks ago. Running 8.0.0.366 now. Check some YT tutorials and do it, you'll be fine.
I prefer to update system software via OTA other than via any 3rd-party ways.

I'm kind of the same way. I use to root, flash, and modify all the time, but as Android has matured over the years,
for what I use a phone for, I just don't screw with it. Shoot, at the end of the day, unless someone calls me,
I never pick it up til the next morning.

Likewise. Just remember sometimes for reasons only known to Huawei your IMEI might never end up getting approved and you'll be stuck running an unpatched outdated firmware version. Firmware Finder uses some DNS/proxying trickery to get around that, it doesn't tamper with your ROM/device in any way.
I got all OTAs before Oreo. By the end of March I had enough with waiting and successfully used FF to jump to 8.0.0.366. I would advise you to do the same if nothing has come through yet even if just for those security patches.
I got my phone through the 3 network. There hasn't been an update since November. I'm getting the impression they've just stopped updating this phone sadly.
I used firmware finder for the first time and found it easy and straightforward. Used the proxy method. I'm now on Oreo with march security update. Phone is quicker and battery life is better.
Was a bit skeptical about firmware finder myself but I'm happy with it after giving it go. Would prefer OTA but it's far too slow.

Personally I gave up on waiting and flashed the unofficial frimware from FF. I'm more than happy with stock Oreo, it's smooth and battery life is amazing (you can tweak each application with more settings than in Nougat). Right now I'll stay on stock but I know I have custom ROM if I get tired of it which is also rly nice

I'm on Oreo B560 for the L14. Can I relock the bootloader using fastboot so that I can use Google pay or will this brick my phone? I don't really use root apps. Other than that Oreo works great.
