AntiRollBack (ARB) - Xiaomi Redmi S2 Questions & Answers

I have a Redmi S2 with MIUI 10.0.4.0 OEFMIFH global version (after upgrade from original version).
When trying to see the ARB status I get the following:
E:\ADB\platform-tools>fastboot getvar anti
anti:
finished. total time: 0.031s
The 'anti' value is empty!!! It should be a numeric value, I think.
Does it mean the phone is free from ARB? May I go back to an earlier MIUI version without bricking it?
Please, some light on this.

Moto G 1st gen - downgrade from CM13 to stock 4.4

Hello,
I was using CM13 but then decided to downgrade to 4.4 EU stock. Here are steps I did:
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/guide-xt1033-downgrade-lollipop-5-0-to-t2969729
2) I flashed XT1032_RETAIL-EU_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.40_36_cid7_CFC_1FF
Everything went fast and smooth except one thing - screen is flickering after downgrade and after flashing stock ROM. I guess this is a bootloader issue that came with CM13. What to do with this?
[edit] I have checked my bootloader version:
adrian$ ./osx-fastboot getvar version-bootloader
version-bootloader: 4118
finished. total time: 0.001s

Hi,
Is this flickering disappear when you put your phone in stand by mode once and turn it on one more time?
If answer is yes, highly suggest you to leave it like it is... It's your bootloader, it's a highest version that's needed by 4.4.4.
Trying to downgrade your bootloader is almost surely a good way to brick it...
Thanks for your response.
Yes - they happens randomly - mostly after phone reboot then they goes away. By the way - my bootloader 41.18 seems to be the lowest version available and from what I read shouldn't cause flickering on 4.4

Help PLS!!! Honor 8 FRD-AL10 came with FRD-L19C636B360 from China - now bricked after

Hi all,
Please help:
I have Honor 8 FRD-AL10 came with FRD-L19C636B360 from China.
After a notification for new update which I started, the phone bricked. Tried eRecovery, but unsuccessful. Couldn't receive the package from the server.
The only thing that worked out a bit was "dload" method with AL00 version from the link with fabric firmware http mega.nz........
But the phone starts to the language and region section and never runs correctly to the desktop. Always rotates about first "start screen".
No other software works out, tried almost everything.
So,
Is this phone been unlocked to be able to install FRD-l19, and then locked again?
Should I unlock it trough huawei site to be able to install again my last version?
What should I do now?
Please help!
I contacted seller for my honor 8 and he sent me this firmware. There are video instructions inside. Didnt work for me though.

I have exactly the same problem, please share if you find the solution.
It seems that will have to root the phone, but hope somebody with more experience to say

Can you send me link to rollback package? I tried 2 different packages but it didnt work, but there were no 2 files as you said. The thing is that I managed to do a rollback at the beginning but then I installed AL10 update not L19 and I think thats why its not working properly.

Exactly the same problem. I have been trying to solve this for almost a week now with no luck.
Hy!
I was trying to bring back to life my device, I did manage to get to that point where you are (the startup screen, it does the same for me -repeats itself over and over again), but I could bypass it by
-double press on the fingerprint button brings you to a different screen, it is similar to google now.
-by scrolling down to the bottom there is a google maps app. If you click this it takes you to the app store which is in Chinese, but you can search by the magnifier tab.
-If you download a random Launcher app (I downloaded the launcher 8 or something like this) it allows you to open the app itself after install
-by opening the app it gives you almost full access to your phone
But, my question is: I did manage to enter my Huawei account, it did sign in but if I want to get an unlock code on Huawei's site it says that I need an account that is signed in not longer than 14 days from this device. Any ideas?
+ It feels a little bit fishy to me that the model name is just FRD no numbers or anything.

TWRP and root MIX3 Global version.

Hi everyone.
I'm just bought a new Mi MIX3, its global variant and pre-installed with MIUI Global 10.0.11.0 PEEMIFH.
I want to root my new phone so i can put some modification on it. But anyone can confirm that the TWRP, magisk version that work on CN variant work on my phone or not?
If not, what method should i use for root? I'm only need root atm so TWRP is not matter.
I'm not new to Xiaomi or android phone, just wonder because no global fastboot rom available atm, so i afraid cannot unbrick my phone with miflash in case anythings goes wrong.
Thanks.

Can't root global yet.
It's almost impossible to brick, If you manage it and somehow manage to not get into twrp then fastboot the Chinese one without locking bootloader.
Once that's done flash twrp, flash global zip again

I'm new to the world of Xiaomi, so I appreciate any help in this matter if you can!
Since you say that you can't root the global version yet, is it safe to assume that the TWRP that's available will definitely not work? I'm near certain it won't, but just want 100% clarity.
I just purchased a global variant of the Mi MIx 3 and am eagerly awaiting to root/install Magisk. I'm glad YouTube vanced and GCam doesn't require root, but I do want a center clock more than anything. If we get TWRP/Magisk to work, can I install the center clock module that's found on this thread without any issues? I hope there won't be too many issues with flashing modules between the global/eu/chinese versions.
Cheers! I can't wait for my Mix 3 to arrive.

I think root now works on phones that ship with global so just need to install twrp and flash magical. Just take backups etc.
Chinese to global seems to cause the root issue. Might be different now just not tested it.
Modules should work ok
After testing and research, this is the root tutorial for MIX 3 global edition, please remember that this is for global edition, not china edition. Please check carefully that your phone is truly global, not china with global rom pre-installed by seller.

Not true because China Mix 3 run perfectly Global rom.
The problem is rooting that.
And afaik there is no difference between models. At least on system specs screen.

Welp, trying to get into TWRP has caused me to bootloop. I screwed up a thing or two and now I need to learn how to use MiFlash to somehow flash a Chinese ROM so I can get into TWRP to flash an EU ROM. I originally was aiming to flash an EU ROM coming from the global ROM, that may have led me to screw something up eventually.
I'm glad fastboot still works. Just learning of the world of Xiaomi now.. I have to admit, there's a lot I didn't know about EDL and what not. I'll be using the 6T until I can figure out how to get things back up and running I guess.

[HELp] Rollback from 12.5.x official CN ROM to 12.0.x official CN ROM

Can anyone point me to a guide to do a rollback from 12.5.1 CN ROM to any 12.0.x official CN ROM?
The upgrade to Android 11 was a bad mistake, a lot of things are broken and my notifications (Whatsapp, etc) are no longer working properly.
Is there anti-rollback protection in 12.5.1?
I figured out it's as simple as request Bootloader unlock, then using miflash fastboot to flash the official 12.0.15 fastboot rom with the clean all and lock option?
That's all right? nothing special?

How are you getting anti rollback error when you are still locked and not able to flash?
For the contacts to numbers issue, just set permission for whatsapp to access Contacts to ALWAYS, don't use Allow only when using app.
that will fix the issue.

I used the Xaiomi MiFlash which works only on Xaiomi ROM So since not changing the boot record I thought it should be ok! I tried to flash back to this ROM cas_images_V12.0.15.0.QJJCNXM_20201209.0000.00_10.0_cn_77d730d8ca.tgz from XaiomiROM.Com. A Flashrom I understand is like an OTA upgrade - but error!

try again when your bootloader is unlocked! Use the full recovery rom instead of the OTA flashrom.
Ya.. cas_images_V12.0.15.0.QJJCNXM_20201209.0000.00_10.0_cn_77d730d8ca.tgz should be the fastboot rom to use.
If you really need to go back, I think you will need an authorised ESL flash from one of the Russian guys.
Managed to rollback to 12.0.15 using miflash last night when my BL got unlocked. just by flashing the 12.0.15 fastboot rom over the 12.5.1 rom in the mi 10 ultra.
nothing extra or special was needed..
i did get a error flashing sparsecrclist.txt error, so i just commented out that line in the BAT and it worked.. LOL
One time affair.. all good now!
i am never touching the 12.5 firmware ever again!

i did get a error flashing sparsecrclist.txt error, so i just commented out that line in the BAT and it worked.. LOL
One time affair.. all good now!
i am never touching the 12.5 firmware ever again!

If you were bootloader unlocked with twrp installed I'm sure it was possible flashing the 12.0 on 12.5 and than format data (which requires typing "yes") and all would have been good, but that's just my thought based on my android experience and knowledge, cheers

Cannot upgrade to 12.5 MIUI

I have a Russian (thanks Amazon !!) Redmi 9a 32Gb/2gb. It is currently running latest 12.0.x ROM version, but i would like to upgrade it to 12.5.
I see on xiaomi ROM site there is currently a 12.5.x version for Russian version, but the OTA never arrived and if i download the recovery zip file and install it manually, it fails verification and stops.
Is there a way to install 12.5 without unlocking the bootloader ?
Is 12.5 supported on this specific redmi 9a ?
thanks !
mmm... spflashtool might work, but Ive only ever used it on a bircked device to unbrick it, never on a functional device to just change the ROM version, but if you really wanna do it without unlocking bootloader thats your best choice.
I will say anyway, its probably safer to unlock bootloader install recovery and install the rom from there, its your call tho.
Heres how I unbricked my device
[GUIDE] Unbrick hard-bricked device
Condition Phone does not turns on Phone not detected via USB Phone handshake/memory hash failed Requirements Unplug battery Download MIUI 12.5.4.0.RCDMIXM Fastboot ROM Download Scatter File for 12.5.4.0.RCDMIXM Download SP Flash Tool Download...

Right now I cannot unlock the bootloader, maybe in the next months I might try (I want to wait for the warranty to expire). My concern is that my version of Redmi 9A with just 2G of Ram is actually not compatible with MIUI 12.5. The 12.5 rom is actually available, but OTA will leave me in the 12.0 branch and verification fails if I try to install the ROM manually. I would not want to brick it by installing an unsupported ROM.
My phone model is M2006C3LG and the ROM I have right now says I have 1.8Gb of available RAM, I don't think you have a different device from mine.
Im a total n00b so I may be wrong about this next thing, but, I think the only difference is what version of MIUI they were sold with since the hardware doesn't allow downgrades further than the stock ROM that came with the device.
There is always antirollback after MIUI 10, but I think its even further locked for the original stock ROM that came to the device, but yeah, this is all my own speculation due to a bricking incident I faced.
The model number is the same, but the 9A was available with different sizes of RAM 2 or 3 or 4 Gb. Mine is the low end 32/2 which is the model still on sale today. If you still have 1.8 Gb of free RAM you very likely has the 3 or 4 GB model.
Maybe you are right, the OTA allows only for updates within the same MIUi version; I saw several guides on-line and i think i will try the miflash tool and switch to the global version. I have to find a way to unlock bootloader without Xiaomi account (no way in hell I'm signing up for that) and without sim card (this phone is used as a smaller wi-fi only tablet). There are some tools for an offline unlock, I will try those first.
It is incredible how Xiaomi is making it complex just to update to a stable official ROM; given also how much bloatware is shovelled with the stock ROM, I'm not sure I will ever consider Xiaomi again.

In my opinion, DON'T UPGRADE. I upgraded it with recovery and fastboot and my phone got an message everytime when I boot it : dm verity corrupted and I will need to press power button again to work. Maybe i didn't did that correctly ( I have Global 12.0.20 32/2gb)

Thanks for the info. So you upgraded to latest 12.0 without moving to 12.5, any reason for not trying 12.5 ? The phone is currently barely usable with Android 10, maybe Android 11 is even heavier, but why not give it a try ?
I saw several youtube videos and guides and by using MI Flash with a Fastboot image (scattered tgz) it should be a total reflash of the phone.
