Hi everyone.
I'm just bought a new Mi MIX3, its global variant and pre-installed with MIUI Global 10.0.11.0 PEEMIFH.
I want to root my new phone so i can put some modification on it. But anyone can confirm that the TWRP, magisk version that work on CN variant work on my phone or not?
If not, what method should i use for root? I'm only need root atm so TWRP is not matter.
I'm not new to Xiaomi or android phone, just wonder because no global fastboot rom available atm, so i afraid cannot unbrick my phone with miflash in case anythings goes wrong.
Thanks.

Can't root global yet.
It's almost impossible to brick, If you manage it and somehow manage to not get into twrp then fastboot the Chinese one without locking bootloader.
Once that's done flash twrp, flash global zip again

I'm new to the world of Xiaomi, so I appreciate any help in this matter if you can!
Since you say that you can't root the global version yet, is it safe to assume that the TWRP that's available will definitely not work? I'm near certain it won't, but just want 100% clarity.
I just purchased a global variant of the Mi MIx 3 and am eagerly awaiting to root/install Magisk. I'm glad YouTube vanced and GCam doesn't require root, but I do want a center clock more than anything. If we get TWRP/Magisk to work, can I install the center clock module that's found on this thread without any issues? I hope there won't be too many issues with flashing modules between the global/eu/chinese versions.
Cheers! I can't wait for my Mix 3 to arrive.

I think root now works on phones that ship with global so just need to install twrp and flash magical. Just take backups etc.
Chinese to global seems to cause the root issue. Might be different now just not tested it.
Modules should work ok
After testing and research, this is the root tutorial for MIX 3 global edition, please remember that this is for global edition, not china edition. Please check carefully that your phone is truly global, not china with global rom pre-installed by seller.

Not true because China Mix 3 run perfectly Global rom.
The problem is rooting that.
And afaik there is no difference between models. At least on system specs screen.

Welp, trying to get into TWRP has caused me to bootloop. I screwed up a thing or two and now I need to learn how to use MiFlash to somehow flash a Chinese ROM so I can get into TWRP to flash an EU ROM. I originally was aiming to flash an EU ROM coming from the global ROM, that may have led me to screw something up eventually.
I'm glad fastboot still works. Just learning of the world of Xiaomi now.. I have to admit, there's a lot I didn't know about EDL and what not. I'll be using the 6T until I can figure out how to get things back up and running I guess.

When you say ADB I'm assuming you mean fastboot command line as you don't need ADB for twrp.

Has anyone done this? I would like to use the EU version, because of the lack of apps and full updates coming out faster.
I'm on global and getting monthly updates and two this month almost back to back. I don't understand why you would want to attempt this. Anything is possible with these unlocked devices though now. And most of us have msm tools available if not. I love my device the way it is. Good luck!

Yes done and easy. Done it 2 months ago. (Updated 3 times).
Just put the FULL EU version on your SD and local flash .... Done
Or better still; use Oxygen updater from the play store and change your device to EU version. EU updates will be automatic from now on.

I get the updates for the Global one, too, but there are a couple issues. The last full global update is a few versions back. I am rooted with Magisk, and the last time I did a restore in Magisk, updated OTA, and Magisk direct install into inactive boot I had to restore back to AA 2.4.4 using fastboot and OTA update before re-rooting.
The two reasons I was thinking about going to the EU versoin is that it lacks some bloat that the EU laws made possible, and that updates seem to be very up to date.

Yes. I would only use FULL update files. This isn't my first time. LOL. I also DD'ed the Persist partition into an img. Does the EU version have the local update in System Updates? Just curious. I saw that the TMO version does not. I ask because my typical upgrade path, that I did on the OP6T, was restore boot img in Magisk, install using the local upgrade, and Install to Inactive Slot in Magisk. (Edit: Yes it does) Is there a MSM Tool for the Global, just in case? (Edit: Found MSM in XDA forums for OP9)
Edit: I just did the upgrade to BA/EU version. I went from AA 2.5.5 to BA 2.5.5. Didn't wipe the data and seems to work fine! Now on 11.2.6.6 LE25BA!!!!!! My upgrade from BA 2.5.5 to BA 2.6.6 worked perfectly.
One more question. Does anyone know why OnePlus is using the Google OTA servers on the AA version? If this was not the case, then I would not be looking into doing this.

AA is Global
DA is India
BA is EU
From this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/oneplus-9-rom-ota-oxygen-os-repo-of-oxygen-os-builds.4254579/ I would say you should not crossflash the DA version.
Quote from the thread: "Furthermore, Indian units (LE2111) lack wireless charging, therefore it may not be possible for them to crossflash to EU or global build."
I seen you mention the LE2111 is the Indian.
Mine came as DA also. But its LE2110.

That is the Chinese unit. Global is LE2115 (AA). EU is LE2113 (BA). India is LE2111 (DA).
Sounds like your unit was converted from ColorOS to OxygenOS. I do not know if you can safely go to the BA/EU version.
It came in the Box with Oxygen. Also I do have wireless charging.
Ive been on BA when I did 1.2.5.5
Only thing im tryna figure out is the best signal. Which one has the nest signal for Google Fi(which they dont support OnePlus 9) it runs on T-Mobile. I get about 50mb a sec which aint to bad.
So the Chinese and India unit both have DA? One just has wireless charging I assume

To my understanding, neither the China phone LE2110 (ColorOS) nor the India phone LE2111 (OxygenOS - DA version) have wireless charging. If you convert from ColorOS to OxygenOS, the downgrade process outlined on XDA (which is awesome) converts you to the DA version. I just did it last night with no issue.

I believe he means the local upgrade. So, you download the full rom to your phone, then choose local upgrade in software update in settings on the phone itself.
Please be sure you have the right file and know exactly what to do and when, cos I'm not responsible for a bricked device.

Question.
Never understood the kernals or bands fully.

I have my own weird question about my unlocked AA 8/128. So perusing the interwebs, I found a dual sim tray. My Tmob sim was not recognized in the second slot with my visible sim in the primary. Does the EU version support dual sim? I ask bc my battle plan is to back up modems, etc in TWRP, flash EU firmware, and then restore modems. Anyone think my logic is sound and that will work if I want Visible and Mint on the same op9? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. I believe that's the last step I have to complete to be done, but that is where I seem to be getting lost. I can't find a boot image for the specific model and software numbers I have. From the threads I have read I think I could use the boot image for software version 11.2.2.2 but I am uncertain.
I went ahead and used the boot.img for 11.2.2.2 and it looks like it worked.

You need 11.2.5.5 boot.img from any region. Then follow the instructions install magisk.
just use the AA image for tmobile. patch the image with magisk the file will go to your download file then fastboot boot the img file from the one get from magisk after patching and you will gain temp root. direct install with magisk and reboot. if you get into a bootloop. reset devices from recovery and you will still retain root after the reset. i have installed empty slot ota and direct install. bootlooped on ota empty slot but reset from recover fixed problem instantly and retained root. direct install no bootloop retained root.
Does anyone care to comment with insights or experiences in regards
to Rooting with Magisk which will allow for the installation on a Custom ROM at a later time -
that is, when a stable Lineage OS for example is available for the OP-9 (t-Mobile) ?
Thank You in Advance !
I doubt it but anything is possible. with the process to convert to different variants being fairly simple and accessible there will be very little focus on that particular software. It is compatible with gloabal pathched boot image to gain root and from there your pretty much able to customize to do what ever your heart desires.

Need help here! I forgot to backup my oneplus 9 pro LE2127 when I tried to root my phone using TWRP,and I installed TWRP in my phone's boot partition which wiped out all data in that partition. I used TWRP side loaded Global ROM to recover my phone but the phone doesn't have any signal with sim card in. Used MSM tool backe to T-Mobile 11.2.5.5 and still same problem, sim card can be read but no signal. Flashed T-Mobile modem but modem b failed, it says no such partition.
Bought this phone from third party. Any suggestion is appreciated.
I attempted to convert my t-mobile oneplus 9 to international firmware by first flashing the Indian firmware.
I mistakenly downloaded the oneplus 9 PRO Indian msm.
I didn't realize this as the file has a very similar name. Lemonade_22.I.07_210412 vs Lemonadep_22_I.07_210412
I've tried everything since then, with no success. I tried to flash the correct oneplus 9 indian msm but it says incorrect device.
So I'm stuck with the oneplus 9 pro Indian firmware and can't get back to indian oneplus 9 firmware....
I have been developing and flashing android devices since the early days of Cyanogenmod... dozens of devices. And guess what? I did EXACTLY the same thing as you.
The link I downloaded from said it was Oneplus 9 firmware, and given the filenames being virtually identical, I never noticed it was the Oneplus 9 PRO firmware.
So don't feel too bad. Even experienced people can make mistakes when trying to flash phones!
I am working on a solution, but so far no luck because:
1. Msm Tool will not flash the Oneplus 9 firmware as it thinks it is the incorrect device (why did it let us flash the incorrect device firmware before???)
2. The bootloader is re-locked and the OEM Unlocking feature is greyed out in Developer options, therefore fastboot can't be used to re-flash the correct firmware.
3. The System Update "local upgrade" feature does not find ZIP files in the root folder and will not allow us to browse to the correct file.
So for now, we are stuck. I think solving #3 will be the solution. If we can make the "local upgrade" work, we should be able to flash the stock firmware ZIP.
@Derek6091 @mightysween did you fix it yet? I had my device screw up so bad today that the only MSM I could use on my global unit was the Indian 9 Pro firmware and I have gotten my device mostly working.
You can see my drama with it and how I finally got it working here.
[SOLVED] Can anyone help me unbrick? I have tried lite firehose, MSM for global, MSM for Indian 9 Pro, none work
I modded the global MSM so that it will flash to this frankenphone. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/all-of-those-stuck-on-indian-firmware-rejoice-i-modded-the-global-msm.4442473/ EDIT: For anyone else trying this and getting unsupported...
forum.xda-developers.com
I can get it working with 11.2.10.10 but not OOS 12, in OOS 12 the touchscreen doesn't work and it shows dual SIM icons so it's still doing something that makes it think it's a foreign variant. I ended up just going back to StagOS where I was before everything got mucked up.
Unfortunately the MSMs still see it as an Indian variant so I can only flash the Indian OP9P firmware to it, tried all the other MSMs and none work. I have been reading threads here and people claim they got it back to global but I tried all of the suggestions and none of them restored the device enough to where the global MSM Tool didn't see it as an Indian model and refuse to flash so I think we are stuck with this frankendevice.

You have to use the Oppo Decrypter tools. Decrypt the OPS file and open settings.xml. At the bottom of it there's a Target area. I just edited that to IN instead of O2 and re-packed it.

Go to your home screen on your phone and connect to computer with usb debugging and run this command in cmd,

Nice...
I tried it with the T-Mobile MSM but it still failed on "unsupported target". Did you only change the text value for O2 to IN, or did you need to change the numerical Target ID as well?
I am pretty content leaving this phone on StagOS anyway, but would be nice to figure out a way to return to T-Mobile stock after recovering from a brick.

Manually flashing partitions in Fastboot does work, FYI. So it is possible to go back to stock that way once the bootoader is re-unlocked.
I wonder where the "target" data is stored on the actual device. If it is simply a numerical/text value in an accessible partition, seems like it would be pretty easy to make a TWRP flashable that can change it.

Strange that it didn't work for you. That was indeed all I changed. Did you change it to what the unsupported target message said your device was? I was comparing the settings between India and global and besides the change of target ID, the target number on India was 3 instead of 1. No idea if that makes a difference though because I didn't try it.
You made sure to re-encrypt and replace the OPS, right?
Also yeah you can flash with fastboot, it doesn't fix that flag though and when I tried to go back to OOS 12 with the messed up flag it thought my device was a dual SIM device so there was no signal and the touchscreen didn't work. Happened twice. With the modified MSM I went back to global and am running OOS 12 right now.
EtherealRemnant said:
@Derek6091 I have modded the global firmware so that it will flash on a device recognized as the Indian variant. If you would like to give it a shot (I already tested it on my own device and am happy to say, it worked perfectly and my device is back on global firmware), here's the link

All you have to do to go back to global is download the full OTA for your device and flash it with the system updater.

Then use the downgrade package. It will wipe your phone again but I will get you back to full OOS11 firmware and that issue won't happen.

downgrade indian version 11.2.5.5 , unfortunately it just tells me it cannot read the file when i attempt to sideload
I have a Russian (thanks Amazon !!) Redmi 9a 32Gb/2gb. It is currently running latest 12.0.x ROM version, but i would like to upgrade it to 12.5.
I see on xiaomi ROM site there is currently a 12.5.x version for Russian version, but the OTA never arrived and if i download the recovery zip file and install it manually, it fails verification and stops.
Is there a way to install 12.5 without unlocking the bootloader ?
Is 12.5 supported on this specific redmi 9a ?
thanks !
mmm... spflashtool might work, but Ive only ever used it on a bircked device to unbrick it, never on a functional device to just change the ROM version, but if you really wanna do it without unlocking bootloader thats your best choice.
I will say anyway, its probably safer to unlock bootloader install recovery and install the rom from there, its your call tho.
Heres how I unbricked my device

REDMI 9A - Google Drive

Thanks
Right now I cannot unlock the bootloader, maybe in the next months I might try (I want to wait for the warranty to expire). My concern is that my version of Redmi 9A with just 2G of Ram is actually not compatible with MIUI 12.5. The 12.5 rom is actually available, but OTA will leave me in the 12.0 branch and verification fails if I try to install the ROM manually. I would not want to brick it by installing an unsupported ROM.
My phone model is M2006C3LG and the ROM I have right now says I have 1.8Gb of available RAM, I don't think you have a different device from mine.
Im a total n00b so I may be wrong about this next thing, but, I think the only difference is what version of MIUI they were sold with since the hardware doesn't allow downgrades further than the stock ROM that came with the device.
There is always antirollback after MIUI 10, but I think its even further locked for the original stock ROM that came to the device, but yeah, this is all my own speculation due to a bricking incident I faced.
The model number is the same, but the 9A was available with different sizes of RAM 2 or 3 or 4 Gb. Mine is the low end 32/2 which is the model still on sale today. If you still have 1.8 Gb of free RAM you very likely has the 3 or 4 GB model.
Maybe you are right, the OTA allows only for updates within the same MIUi version; I saw several guides on-line and i think i will try the miflash tool and switch to the global version. I have to find a way to unlock bootloader without Xiaomi account (no way in hell I'm signing up for that) and without sim card (this phone is used as a smaller wi-fi only tablet). There are some tools for an offline unlock, I will try those first.
It is incredible how Xiaomi is making it complex just to update to a stable official ROM; given also how much bloatware is shovelled with the stock ROM, I'm not sure I will ever consider Xiaomi again.

Thanks for the info. So you upgraded to latest 12.0 without moving to 12.5, any reason for not trying 12.5 ? The phone is currently barely usable with Android 10, maybe Android 11 is even heavier, but why not give it a try ?
I saw several youtube videos and guides and by using MI Flash with a Fastboot image (scattered tgz) it should be a total reflash of the phone.

I have OnePlus LE2110 (Chinese variant). But it gets the update for LE2115 (Global/NA variant). I use MSM Tool for Global.
Did it give device mismatch error in msm tool? What tool are you using

No. Although my device is LE2110, but OTA updates automatically get the updates for LE2115. So I can use MSM Global Tool for LE2115 too, and I don't have to convert or anything.
In your case, maybe this will work to convert:
Convert T-Mobile OnePlus 9 to Global (or other) firmware
** USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. ** READ THROUGH THE STEPS BEFORE ATTEMPTING. IF AT ANY POINT WHILE READING THESE STEPS YOU GET CONFUSED, YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T ATTEMPT THIS. ** BACKUP YOUR FILES AND APP DATA AS THIS WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE. ** BACKUP...

Use at your own risk though. I haven't done this, and I take no responsibility.

I really have no idea. Never heard of LE2119 variant. How about you unlock bootloader and then install custom ROMs? They are way better than OOS. I would personally suggest crDroid or Nameless. They have tons of features and are stable.

Ok. If you wanna go the safe way, download Oxygen Updater app from Play Store. Then download incremental firmware zip from there and try to update through System Update's Local Update option. If it's not compatible, the system just would not flash it at all.

Are you a developer? Even if you are, you would have to be an employee at OnePlus to know what goes on in MSM Tool. If you really wanna experiment, I suggest you unlock bootloader and try custom ROMs. At least unlock bootloader and see if you can do that. There would be no harm. In T-Mobile variants, you can't unlock the bootloader simply, it asks for unlock token and you have to wait a few days. So, if you can unlock bootloader the simple way, there would be hope that this device isn't doesn't have freaky security like T-Mobile.
i can fix this device they basically killed by flashing wrong img & now its not able to take stock file if anyone have device in hand to test then DM me I'll build file for this.
Make sure i need full info
and it's may not done in 1st attempt
