I doubt that device temperature is related to hacking... Try to find any app that is running in background. Probably your device is not entering deep sleep when isn't in use

You can use this app to check your device behavior

Hi there,
Under Settings -> Apps -> All apps is an app called "Update device", which has a huge number of permissions. Can somene please tell me what it is and if it's "normal" for Nexus 5? Has someone this app, too?
The thing is, that it hasn't the original android app logo (the green robot in 3D-style). it looks like spyware or so....
Thanks alot!
see appendix:
I think it's normal. I have the same.
The battery monitor app "Carat" recommends that I kill this "Update Device" service and calls it a "hog". I'm unlocked and rooted so can't get OTAs as it is, so if that's what this app/service does, I'd gladly disable it forever. Not sure how to do that though as it doesn't show up in Greenify and Titanium Backup won't work with ART so I can't "freeze" it.
Thoughts?
Yes, bump is lame but this has gone dead for weeks...

There is nothing to discuss. It's part of Android. It runs all the time but doesn't do much of anything.

Besides consuming vast amounts of battery? And I can't get OTAs anyway?
What are you talking about?

It doesn't consume vast amounts of battery. Every phone has it.

Where are the BBS logs that show that app keeping the device awake for absurd amounts of time?
Only then, would it be considered a problem worth investigating. If you have battery problems, post your BBS log and I will personally take a look.
Is there a good way to turn the phone into a smartwatch? Or is this too silly?
It's too silly.... :good:
Not if you have really big wrists
My wrist is big enough so it would not be absurd, silly yes, but not absurd. I'm more asking how one would turn the phone into a smartwatch

I know, I wasn't thinking of a ROM, maybe just more apps that could be used to keep the screen on and sync with my phone

I have been trying to, been trying to find an app that keeps daydream on all the time. I have been failing though:crying::crying::crying::crying:
Hey guys, I get this in my greenify app. Is this normal and should be keeping my device awake for so long? Is it the phone just staying on alert for incoming calls or what?
Safe to greenify, or leave as is?
Leave it alone.

^ This.
In general greenifying system apps isn't a good idea unless you are 100% sure it won't cause trouble.
You should really only greenify installed apps that you personally see behaving badly and causing wakelocks.

Alright awesome, thanks guys.
I tried to search for it, but not much came up. Ill just leave it alone then until it causes issues.
I am not able to change turn off display after specified time to anyother time. It's option is disabled. I don't know the reason why so it is freezed to 15s.
Is it only for me or for everyone else also.
Kindly help if anyone know solution. Thanks.

I generally like the adaptive brightness setting on this phone, but I often find it sets itself to the absolute lowest brightness setting on occasions where it seems inappropriate. If there a way to change adaptive brightness so that it keeps the screen a little brighter?

I too experience this. Would love to hear if this is persistent across all users. The adaptive brightness is too dim even in a moderately lit environment.

I did use the search and found the same thread you had linked before... But the workaround is for rooted users only.
Sorry for the trouble. Just wanted to know whether someone has any update on this issue being acknowledged by OnePlus and whether a possible fix is on the way.

No need to get rude dude. Did they mention anything about rooting the phone or installing xposed or Magisk? That being said, guys there are some kernels that can help ir try play store for some available apps.

There won't be a fix, because it isn't an issue
OnePlus does this since the OnePlus 3, and they will keep it.
You really have to root your phone when you want to change it

OnePlus acknowledges the issue and promises an optimization update via OTA in the coming weeks.

Under the Heading "Last but not Least" , first paragraph last sentence addresses about the adaptive brightness.
Could you please share some info on the flickering issue you are referring to ?

You could use the third party app lux to manage Auto brightness
