[Q] Safe to Greenify com.qualcom - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I get this in my greenify app. Is this normal and should be keeping my device awake for so long? Is it the phone just staying on alert for incoming calls or what?
Safe to greenify, or leave as is?

Leave it alone.

^ This.
In general greenifying system apps isn't a good idea unless you are 100% sure it won't cause trouble.
You should really only greenify installed apps that you personally see behaving badly and causing wakelocks.

Startup Cleaner.

Hey peeps, thought I'd drop off a thread and see whatchayall think. It's a startup cleaner program. Seems pretty decent and could be a good app for people like me who hate crap like fring running on autostart, etc. =P

Tried it, nice find.
Uninstalling market updates first is getting to be a pain!
This app works great! Stopped all sorts of apps from starting up! Good stuff, thanks!
**EDIT**
Only killed them once the phone was booted completely. Didn't do a logcat to verify this at first.
Haha, actually I noticed what it does is just kill the task that starts up. It doesn't PREVENT the task from starting though.

Should be something like startup auditor then. Actually preventing apps from starting up would require a rooted phone with the autostarts app.

Yeah, could there be a chance someone in the community would be able to mod the app to do so? Not sure if the dev is reading this here. Lol.

I think the dev is probably trying to cater to non rooted users as well lol. Not 100% sure of this, but stopping apps from starting up at all should require a rooted phone.

[Q] App: "Update device" ?

Hi there,
Under Settings -> Apps -> All apps is an app called "Update device", which has a huge number of permissions. Can somene please tell me what it is and if it's "normal" for Nexus 5? Has someone this app, too?
The thing is, that it hasn't the original android app logo (the green robot in 3D-style). it looks like spyware or so....
Thanks alot!
see appendix:
I think it's normal. I have the same.
The battery monitor app "Carat" recommends that I kill this "Update Device" service and calls it a "hog". I'm unlocked and rooted so can't get OTAs as it is, so if that's what this app/service does, I'd gladly disable it forever. Not sure how to do that though as it doesn't show up in Greenify and Titanium Backup won't work with ART so I can't "freeze" it.
Thoughts?

There is nothing to discuss. It's part of Android. It runs all the time but doesn't do much of anything.

Besides consuming vast amounts of battery? And I can't get OTAs anyway?
What are you talking about?

It doesn't consume vast amounts of battery. Every phone has it.

Where are the BBS logs that show that app keeping the device awake for absurd amounts of time?
Only then, would it be considered a problem worth investigating. If you have battery problems, post your BBS log and I will personally take a look.

Does always having "Toolbox" feature on drain battery?

Does anyone else keep the Toolbox feature on at all times and do you notice a battery drain? TIA!
Anyone?

I keep it on all the time and I'm getting superb battery life on stock rooted rom, using Greenify although I was getting great battery life with Toolbox on before I rooted.

Thanks man, so you literally keep Toolbox on 24/7 no matter what?
Anyone else too?! :good:
It doesn't matter. The service is always running regardless so leaving the toggle on versus leaving the toggle off is simply a matter of whether you'd like to see it off or not.

I also used Greenify, its the best battery saving app on the market, if you get the donated version it has some experimental features that can work on system apps, but I wouldn't messed with that to much on SGS5, they work perfectly on my Nexus 5, I would get easily 16 hrs used on my Nexus with Greenify and Xposed Framework working hand in hand. I Greenfiy every app thats in my toolbox, and when I used the app it comes out of hibernation and after words it goes back into hibernation, similar to freezing a app on Titianuim backup.
I've just spent two days on twice factory resetting then reinstalling 100+ apps on my Samsung tab to try to stop the "security storage" process pegging at about 20% whenever the screen is on, and finally I realised that having the "toolbox" switched on is the culprit. Just turning it off in the settings makes "security storage" go down from 20% to about 2%, and that makes a clear difference to battery life. Just reporting in this old thread for google to find to help others.

Perhaps you should go into your accounts and stop many of the the Google services from syncing. I only have Calendar, Contacts and Gmail on. That might help with battery life.

Make sure you read the last post, it streamlines the process, I just haven't had time to update the OP.

Why would they do that? The whole point of having a smartphone is having instantaneous access to your info and using these features. This is a known bug affecting many. Supposedly oneplus one will fix this with the next ota update.

Things running constantly so that you can have instantaneous and continuous access will drain battery-operated electronics. That's nothing unique with OPO, other smartphones, or any other electronic device which runs on a battery.

Yes it will drain your battery, but not excessively like the google services bug present in cm11s. Most people don't buy a smartphone to have everything turned off on it. My g3 has all the same things constantly active and battery is a beast on it.

That is a great suggestion for a temporary battery life improvement but hopefully the update coming from oneplus will resolve it permanently. I hope it does, I really like this phone but will switch over to the g3 permanently if it doesn't get fixed.
this did the trick on mine. I made this video for couple friends
just stop all the services and do immediate reboot
should be fine after

Once you reboot, the process starts again, so they are running again. Por thats TVE way it should be?.

I think you better disable Google app and use it on your browser! And it might be that app which monitors your wakelocks as well. Uninstall it.
Btw: Mods will move it to the correct section (q&a).

I have only just put the app on in the morning to check, and I have disabled google and it is still going down quick in standby - even with removing the app :/
You'll get more help if you cared to post on the proper section (Q and A), not accessories.
Yeh, I thought mods were gonna move it as I accidentally did it wrong. I posted it in q and a but got nothing
