Xperia Z5 E6653 region location - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I am trying to find, for which region is the E6653 supposedly for. From what i have seen, it SHOULD be for Worldwide/EU.
But then, it turns out, that the specific unit i have is 501SO, which is for the Japanese market. As such, the official Sony service in Bulgaria, refuses to repair it, even with paid service.

Flash a Nordic or EU firmware.
Change buildprop with text editor if needed.

I am first trying to find if this is even proper one, since its still in Seller Warranty. If its not EU one, i will return it, since flashing would void the warranty.
So, i would need to know for which markets the E6653 is targeted at - EU, Worldwide, Americans or Asian markets?

Bump.
According to the Sony Whitepaper, 6603 and 6653 have both the same band support.
I saw some info, on how 6603 is supposedly for the NA market/region.
If that is so, does that makes the 6653 EU/Global?

[Q] Any advantage to US generic ftf over UK generic?

I am replacing a D6603 from Handtec (UK generic) with a D6603 purchased at a U.S. Sony store (either US generic or global -- not sure which). I use the phone on AT&T almost exclusively in the US.
I noticed that the UK version is on a later build, and since Sony is more popular in the UK, I imagine that would always be the case. Is there any drawback to just flashing the UK version so that I can get quicker updates? Is there a different version I should flash instead? And for clarification -- flashing a different ftf will NOT erase my drm keys, right?
Thanks!

DRM keys will not be wiped and you can always flash back to US if the signal weakens due to different baseband. Don't bet on getting updates sooner. Sony moves them around so you never know which regions will get them first.

Z5 Dual Sony warranty

Hi,
does somebody know how Sony handles his warranty condition with the Z5 dual?
I have now an E6683 which is originally from Hongkong. It is sold by a german dealer which is responsible for faults.
But I like to have a backup via the producers warranty. For this product I think I will get no free support within Europe.
Now there is another model on the market E6633 which is sold on the european market by default (I saw Poland, France, Portugal in Xperifirm). So if I buy this kind of model it should be no problem to get it repaired "legally" within Europe.
Now the question: is this assumption correct? Somebody has some experience with this kind of question?
Before I purchase Z5 Dual on ebay from Taiwan seller, I contact local Sony repair depot in Calgary,Alberta Canada and was told they honor the warrenty. Purchase it the next day ship from singapore. Try to find out where the local repair depot in your country.

How does OTA work ? (SIM/DNS/IP/Huawei-ID/...) ?

Reading various threads, i am quite heavily confused in understanding how OTA updates work.
Aka: i bought a LON-L29 running LON-L29C636B124 on ebay because in my country (USA), thats the only way i could buy it. So i guess this model was imported from some region like Europe. Then other threads seem to indicate OTA in different european countries happens at different times. Yet other threads offer OTA by pointing to DNS servers with probably faked DNS entries for the OTA servers.
Obviously, i am trying to figure out what i can do to get OTA with the least amount of hacking..
So, how does the phone decide how to get OTA ?
- What role does the SIM play ? Aka: could i improve my chances to get OTA by removing my carriers SIM first (the carrier that is not offering/supporting this phone). I was hoping with this being a carrier independent firmware, it would be out of the picture (had enough of carrier firmware).
- What role does the wifi network i am connecting to play - eg: is there some form of IP geo restrictions for OTA servers (only accepting OTAs from IP addresses in specific contries).
- What role does the build number (LON-L29C636B124) or other IDs in the phone play to select the OTA server ? would all phones with the name build type (LON-L29C636) request the same upgrade ?
- Does any of the huawei ID/accounts created on the phone have an impact ? I created a Huawei ID on the web with USA as the country and the phone was rejecting it. I then created an ID on the phone with country being Germany and that worked.
Sorry, hit me if i missed finding an FAQ that covers this.

OTA`s are set on IMEI numbers, nothing else afaik.
I have the same model as you with the same firmware which I imported to Spain :S
OT: Which seller did you choose in ebay ? I am curious if they made you pay taxes.

They are actually Carrier related. I am in Australia and only received the OTA to B138 when I inserted a Hong Kong SIM.
There is a thread on here about it.
Or you can do a full download, see this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/help/mate-9-mha-l29c636-t3532168
Your phone send a request to Huawei's server for an update. The request includes some information about your phone. One of these includes a field called IMEI. Since the data is encrypted with Huawei's private key, we can't be sure what is included in this data, but my guess is it's both your IMEI and your IMSI.
Although other information is sent, Huawei will tell your phone there is or isn't an upgrade based on your current version, phone model, and the aforementioned IMEI field. They push it initially to some IMEIs, and push it later to others. They may never push it to others.
Your phone is the C636 region, which is the Asia/Pacific region, not Europe.
Anyway, the easiest way to get updates is to use FunkyHuawei. That is able to get you the latest update regardless of whether Huawei wants your specific IMEI to have it. The only other way would be to pay attention to what people with the same phone/branding as you have, and see if they're getting an update. If they are and you're not, you could try finding a Hong Kong or Malaysian SIM card, and seeing if that helps. Otherwise, you can wait.
Not the ideal situation, but Huawei works in mysterious ways, apparently.
Thanks folks for the infos.
Is there a list of what regions the numbers indicate ? C636 being for "asia/pacific" seems to be the one thats peddled on ebay as well.
I clicked on "downloadlatest full package" both with and without US (ATT) SIM inserted, but got nothing (aka huawei tells me B124 is latest). FunkyHuawei has C636B139 though.
My orioginal problem is that i want daydream, and just sideloading vr.vrcore and vr.home was not sufficient. Store does not offer daydream only apps, and sideloaded daydream apps fail to start with an incompatibility popup (which may be possible to get around, but its just maddening).
This thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mobile-vr/google-daydream-vr/spoofing-daydream-compatible-device-t3534943 seems to explain how to hack up the rest of googles moronic compatibility checks, but i may just wait for a firmware upgrade that officially supports it and then worst case use FunkyHuawei to install it if Huawei does not offer it to me via upgrade.
I guess B139 is not yet introducing official daydream compatibility, or else i am sure some huawei marketing droid would have already posted that info somewhere.

You can still get updates on your phone. All you need to do is identify which region your phone comes from and put it the right sim card.
In my case, I put in a dead hk sim card because my phone is c636, and it detected update right away over wifi and I'm up to b138 now.

And how can we get this "dead sim cards" without much trouble ? Haha
I have the same C636.
I have the Chinese AL00. model. Besides the first update about a month back when I first had the phone that had the OTA. I have been able to update via the Hicare-service-update manually every time there is a new firmware come out. Wonder if this isn't the same case with international models? BTW, I'm using Chinese AL00 model in Australia and on B165 ATM.

I had the same problem with my P9+ C636, live in Sweden and never recived OTA to my phone. Asked Huawei support for help and this was there answer.
Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Huawei!
We still did not confirm your mobile phone belong to Hong Kong version or not. If you confirm your phone was Hong Kong version only insert Hong Kong sim card then can receive OTA update. There was no other way to solve if you did not have Hong Kong sim card until now. Thank you.
For further inquiry, please feel free to contact us. Have a nice day!

Will a European model XZ work OK in the UK?

I've been offered a Xperia XZ for a good price, but it's a European model, is there going to be any issues using it in the UK?
Why not? its same phone, only difference is customisation, which u can change any time with flashtool.

F8331 from UK

Hello everyone, new member here. I have searched through many threads here, and am unable to find what I am looking for. I had purchased an Xperia XZ F8331 from the UK, a pre-order as no retailer I contacted in North America could give me a date on when it would be available. Clove Technologies is where I purchased, and after talking to them, checking with my mobile carrier, both deemed the phone would work. However, I get no LTE, and my regular phone service is very poor, only 1, the odd time 2 bars of service. My Xperia Z1 will get full bars and LTE in the same spot. I have hardly used it, have sent it back for warranty and it came back with no difference. I have found that others here in Canada have the same phone, purchased elsewhere with a different customization number. My number is 1305-2216, customized UK. I have seen 3 different ones, that seem to be working fine. However, I can't find them all in XperiCheck. 1304-9026 is there, but with a lower software version than my phone. The other 2 are 1308-0262 and 1304-7008. Sony Uk has been no help, and the retailer has not helped me either. I have had this issue since I got the phone, and don't want to have a very expensive paper weight. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
You may use flashtool to flash fw of another region then see if the issues you mentioned be fixed or not.
