S4 lte goes off just to receive calls (had same problem on S3) - General Questions and Answers

Have a very weird problem, and think it is because of any app...
I use a galaxy tab s4 lte as a phone, it is a fully functional phone oversized... it is great, and im using tablest as phone 3 or 4 years ago... first was galaxy tab s2 lte, then s3, and now s4
S2 worked great... S3 worked great but from march of this year, randomly phone disconects fron network just to receive calls.... sms, 4g and wifi always work, but canr receive calls till i make a call... it is like it disconnects from network... i notice that, because i have (from the times of s2) my phone forwarding calls to my wife's phone when my phone is turned off or im in a plane for example...
But with tab se, from march, i was in home with my wife and someone that call me ringed directly to my wife phone... a lot of times saw that... but when i place a call... it start receiving calls again...
Went to tmobile, changed the sim and same problem...
Bought a new S4 lte ($1000) and from the day 1 same problem...
Any help? Im pretty sure it could be any app... but dont know where to start

Did you by chance put it on LTE-only mode? Where it does not receive calls there is some network configuration problem or lack of Volte when it automatically switches to 4g.

Disable LTE without custom ROM?

I have the ATT HOX and want to disable LTE due to the known issues with missed calls etc. Would it be possible to disable it through root access WITHOUT installing a custom ROM?
I'm not sure what AT&T do to their phones but can you not change it via Settings > Mobile Network > Network mode.

Same on Telstra
Phone: HTC One XL
ROM: AOKP 4.2.1 MR1 preview w/ alloy blue theme
Launcher: Apex w/glaskart icons
Att one x doesn't have that function. Try to do it in service menu trying typing in *#*#4636#*#*
Go to phone info and scroll down. It works for me on clean Rom but not sure about stock rom

What known missed calls issue? What would LTE have to do with missed calls? LTE on AT&T is data only. It doesn't do anything with calls. You can dial *#*#4636#*#* and try to set it to gsm only or something.

Believe me I have tried. It's not possible. But ik you said you didn't want to, but you really should look into custom ROMs. There's some that are basically stock with just better battery
Except for ATT. Its a well documented fact that they have it disabled. Any changes you make revert back to default.

Its a fairly well known issue with ATT and LTE phones.
As far as I can tell since LTE IS data only it has a hard time receiving calls when its connected to the LTE network. I think it has something to do with only having 1 antenna and it cant communicate on voice and data at the same time. Or, maybe not.:silly: All I know is that when my phone is connected to LTE I will not receive phone calls. All calls will ring a few times and then go to voice mail. I eventually get voice message notifications when the phone switches out of LTE.
Any changes made in the field test mode do not stick. Thank you very much ATT.

I've had 3 different LTE phones on AT&T and never had issues with missed calls and I'm constantly on a LTE connection. My phone kicks to hspa+ right before I receive a call and then it rings. Goes back to LTE about 30 seconds after I hang up. The only thing I can think of is that you are on LTE only in the field test mode thing. That will definitely give you call problems. What does it say that you are connected to when you go into the phone information menu?

I've had a few LTE phones too but I can confirm that this is an issue with AT&T and the HOX. (At least in certain areas.) The phone is *supposed* to do what you said and switch off LTE when a call comes in but that doesn't always happen. I've noticed it the most at my office where I usually have 4 bars of "4G LTE" or one or two bars of "4G". I'll have a long period of time with no incoming calls or texts and then when I make a call (and the phone switches to "4G") I get the backlog of voicemails and text messages. Hard resets haven't helped and AT&T refuses to admit that it's a problem.
Heres a summary of what I have found:
1 Being in field test mode does not affect incoming calls.
2. When making outgoing phone calls with LTE or HSPA displayed in field test mode, the connection will switch to UMTS and then revert back to LTE or HSPA after hanging up. I dont know what that means, just throwing it out there.
3. On a few occasions during my testing I have noticed that I could not receive calls when HSPA is displayed in field test mode. I think that the phone had just switched from LTE, although I havent been able to 100% verify that.
4. My connection at my house varies between LTE, HSPA,EDGE.
5. EDGE is great. My phone makes and receives calls all day long when I have a EDGE connection.
6. Most of my testing has been at home where I have crappy reception to begin with. On a few occasions when I had my wife with me I had her call my phone(connected to LTE). Same as when at home, my pone never rings.

Exactly!
I have Samsung Galaxy S3 on AT&T and I have same issue when connected to LTE. I have been working with AT&T CSR for over a week and no resolution yet. I have talked them into switching my data plan from 300MB LTE to Unlimited Standard Phone data plan. (Unlimited standard phone data plan uses HSPA+ and not LTE, which would resolve the issue)
From what I have understood so far, its not the phone, its the AT&T LTE network.
Wouldnt people with the same phone have more answers for you?

No, because this issue is not related to the phone but its related to AT&T LTE network. So everyone on AT&T LTE network has same issue and not only people with HTC one X.

I was on phone with them last night. They have created a case number for me so their "technical team" can look into it. They promised me to get back to me before friday on this.
For changing the data plan, the CSR tried to change it but it didnt work yesterday. I blame it on the CSR because I know some people on XDA has done that before. I am gonna call them again and have a different CSR try it or me.
And plus, with this change, you get unlimited HSPA+ for just $10.

Thanks for the link. Those settings actually worked for me. I had already tried a couple different APN configs but none of them seemed to stick.
So, now I have successfully disabled LTE.
Unfortunately, I'm still having intermittent missed calls with the phone connected to HSPA. Also, At work in certain areas, we have rock solid LTE reception and guess what...no missed calls. WTFrack?
At home the only time I can get regular calls is when the phone is connected to EDGE.
I seriously think that there must some relationship between 4G/LTE and signal strength. Does anyone know If EDGE and 4G/LTE use the same towers or same power outputs?

[Q] Sometimes Not Getting Calls (Verizon Note Edge)

I have had the Note Edge for Verizon since launch day about a week and a half ago. Love the phone and everything seemed to be working fine until I noticed yesterday that I was not getting calls all day. I was in urban areas with full signal. Just voicemails here and there but never rang. Had some friends try to call me and it would ring 4 or 5 times on their end then go to voicemail, but on my phone never rang. After a reboot, i still had the same problem. After a second reboot it now seems to be getting calls. I have advanced calling 1.0 activated. Anyone else having this problem with the note edge? If so any easy fixes?
Have you tried the standard profile and prl updates.
Hmm, no I have not yet. I had assumed LTE phones automatically updated the prl. I am traveling now but will try that when I get back into my city tonight.
It seems there is no option to update the system profile. It also seems that you cannot do a prl update either by dialing *228 on the note edge. Every time I try it kicks me from the dialer with a message that says verizon Sim card stores this information and updates automatically. Not sure what else I can do. I have been getting calls since this incident. Maybe I'll just wait it out and see if it happens again.
It seems i may have found the issue. I called my phone from another phone and it didn't ring .. again. i turned off Advanced Calling 1.0 and tried again and it worked. Turned it on and called again, didnt work. It seems with advanced calling 1.0 activated, i cannot receive calls at times. I suppose i will leave it off, but this bothers me because with the note edge you cannot use the internet while on calls unless you have Advanced Calling 1.0 active. Lame.
I have advanced calling on and am getting calls.

I as well. RyanATF, call Customer Support & have them refresh your phone.
I also was getting calls about 50% of the time which is why it was so strange. I called customer support this morning. They checked everything and refreshed my phone. Level 2 support does not think it is my phone that is the issue. They sent the ticket to the VZW switcher engineers and will call me back on friday with an answer. They think that maybe the VoLTE network is the issue in my area as my phone is not having any connectivity problems.
There is a known issue with advanced calling.

Randomly missing calls and texts. Help please

So the title pretty much sums it up. I have a rooted sprint nexus 5 running stock 5.0.1. And I'm a still randomly missing calls and texts. Phone doesn't ring. Missed texts and missed call notifications don't appear until rebooting the phone.
I know this was a problem with 4.4 on the nexus 5 but I thought 5.0 was supposed to fix this. Am I do in something wrong? Help would be much appreciated.
Check your network
I'm having the same problem
I have had a Nexus 5 for the last year. It was a great phone but did miss some calls, but had good reception. I recently broke that phone and purchased a newer one. The reception is awful. I had to buy a microcell booster just to work it in my home where I didn't have to before. If the phone has one bar you can't receive or send calls. If it has two bars it's a crap shoot. Often times when I call there will be two bars and as soon as I press send to call someone the phone drops to no bars. Is this a software or phone or hardware problem?
My issue seems to be receiving texts and calls while on wifi. If so, I will get texts really late, or out of order. With phone calls i just may note receive them at all, nor get a missed call or voicemail notification. I've heard some peopl say that the issue an LTE one and switching to 3G helps the problem but I've found that recently that is not the case. If I am on wifi my sprint nexus 5 just cant seem to get it right...
For Sprint, there could be issues with the signaling for voice/sms when on LTE since the N5 is a single radio for everything. Another thing it could be is the modem version. Also if you got a replacement it's possible the connections are just loose inside or one of them is disconnected for the antenna.
I'm on sprint too and I get the notorious double texts has to be something on sprints end

Sorry to necropost, but i'm reviving this to see if anyone else is still having the same problem??? Has this been fixed on Android 5.1 or 5.1.1 ? There has to be a better solution than having to be on 3G and keeping wifi on only when phone is awake. Help or advanced knowledge of the problem would be appreciated.
Its Sprint, it sucks

Updating over LTE/3G?

I got my edge the day it came out and I've been having this problem where my apps don't sync or update over Sprints network. Apps like Bleacher Report, Facebook, Gmail, etc. I receive kiks just fine while the the phone is idle on 4G but nothing else syncs. After I got home from work today, my WiFi connected and all these emails and notifications popped up and they had a previous timestamp. My background data restriction is off and for every app too. I did the 78268 or whatever and still nothing. My network was set to automatic and I just switched it to LTE/CDMA to see if it works. Has this happened to any of you guys??

I think there is def something going on i experience sorta the same stuff, sometimes i can reboot the phone and then all my emails and stuff come in. 2 weeks ago with the m7 i would wake up and usually have about 10 emails and notifications. Not anymore for some reason its like it stops the data connection.
I've got the same issue. I have no idea what is going on. I want to say it's a sprint issue but I really think Its a Samsung issue with the radios. I have moved my preferred network to home and disabled Roaming. I am hoping this helps. I think he has to do with how Spark passes off to LTE and 3G.

Yeah I also can't use data while in the middle of a call. I'm going to take it to Sprint and see if its a SIM issue or their network. Since so many people are having this problem, its most likely Sprint unless Samsung made a bunch of defective devices lol

You can't use data during a call on any Spark device to my knowledge, because those devices only have the one radio. It can't do LTE while also doing 1X (SVLTE). Whenever VoLTE becomes widespread this won't be a problem.
Yea you can't use data and voice at the same time. It's always been this way. I'm just pissed I'm missing emails and notifications. I switched my network preferences to see if that helps.
found a workaround for this
Having the same problem here and this is my second one with the problem (exchanged the first one because of the screen rotation issue).
I installed Hotspot Shield from the play store and now my notifications from all apps are coming in in a timely manner. It makes your battery drain faster though. Hopefully Sprint will push an update to fix this soon. In the meantime this works, at least for me.

Galaxy S6 920F unable to make calls T mobile

Hello,
I bought Galaxy S6 G920F 6 months ago, was using t mobile everything was working well.
Few months ago I noticed Im unable to receive/make phone calls. Went to T-mobile and apparently they upgraded their antennas and removed some of the bands they used to support.
The only way i can make calls is if i move to 2G, when im on 4G i cannot make/receive calls in some areas (like my neighborhood).
Did anyone else encounter it in NY and is there something I can do besides buying a new phone?
Thanks!
