G2X - How much of an upgrade over a Galaxy S 4G?

I just started a new contract with T-Mo Tuesday night, and got the Galaxy S 4G for free. (It was a one night special!) It seems like a solid phone, and my only complaints so far are the low internal memory (which I understand can largely be fixed by rooting and moving apps to the SD) and the occasional sluggishness. I'm also a little worried about upgrades of the OS, as I've heard some bad things about Samsung in this regard.
How big a difference would I see with the G2X? Is it worth the possible extra $200 I'd have to shell out to get it, considering I got the SGS4G for free?

as a previous VIBRANT and SGS4G owner i will tell you GET IT!
dual core>single
1080p camera/mirrioring>****ty 4g no flash camera
DIVEX!
there are many more
do research before you buy but YES it is a upgrade its the top phone to buy right now (till the SGS2 comes out)
and if you still got your 14days to exchange it do it! (if you still are in your 14 day grace period you WILL NOT have to pay a xtra 200 bucks! just pm me and ill tell you more!)
and if you dont like it im sure you can sell on ebay for close to 400-500 bucks!
(i hated the fact that the vibrant had 16GB internal memory but the 4G did not so i also switched it for the G2x....)
good luck and hope i helped!
Its not worth the $200. I have only used one in the store, but i would hardly call it a quantum leap in terms of features or speed.
Spend the $200 on a used tablet instead

You may have gotten the phone for free, but its still a 2-year contract. A 2 year contract on a phone that is basically a vibrant with 4g and ffc that came out July 2010. In my opinion I would get a phone that is newer technology. I love my vibrant a lot and its a fantastic device, but I would not however sign up for a 2-year contract on a 9 month old phone. If you do not change phones often then free isnt a bad thing at all, just wish it was newer. My 0.2 cents
The 2-year contract is what is making me consider the switch, even if I do have to shell out some cash to do so. (I EXPECTED to have to spend money up front, just caught a break on that SGS4G deal.)

I understand. I mean a free phone is always awesome lol, just hard to push contract on 9month old phone into my head. I go through 2-3 phones a year so I always buy mine outright, but that isnt an option for everyone. The SGS4g is a great device and still impressive with a custom rom on it. Cheers

You wont have to shell out any more money since you are still under 14 days. Just go to the store with a reciept and the phone and ask for an exchange. Unfortunately ive had my galaxy s 4g since launch so im pretty much SCREWED.

I called T-Mo tonight to ask about exchanging my GS4G for the G2X, and it looks like it will work out. The Galaxy S 4G is already back in the box and ready to ship out tomorrow morning. They said they'll be express shipping the G2X for me as well, I can live without a phone for a day or two.

I think he will have to shell out 199 for the G2X vs the FREE for the Vibrant4G thats with 2 Year Contract.
And yeah I would take the Vibrant4G back and pay the 199 and get the G2X. You could also use the Equipment Installment Plan and only pay like $50 I think. and then 50 or 100 a month untill the 199 is payed off.
The Vibrant was free but like said before is about a year old vs something that is brand new. If Im going to sign a 2 year contract might as well get the latest and best because without the 2 year contract your looking at 499.
The G2X also doesn't feel like it'll break if you look at it wrong.
Possible solutiom
Look for my thread in the G2X forums, it has info you may be interested in. Sorry I cant post link, i'm using my cell for this reply.
Actually, it's the Galaxy S 4G I got for free, not the Vibrant. I think it is working out for me because there were other issues with my account surrounding my plan based on what I was told versus what I was actually going to be charged. Basically, I've been getting the runaround on a few things, have been getting miffed, and I think they are trying to make me happy at this point.

I just called tmobile. Since i got my galaxy s 4g on release date there is no way to get it replaced with the g2x....... Even through warranty, my insurance, anything. They said that they will only give me another galaxy s 4g as a replacement. WTF. This sucks.

Depending on how fast he trying to sale his Vibrant4G/GalaxyS4G you can get it gone quick on craigslist.
200-250 Will get it sold day one especially if you put it up on a Thursday/Friday
300-350 Might take a min to sale on craigslist but should deffinetly sale.
Then come out of pocket around 200-250 and get the G2X

i can confirm i sold a vibrant for 200 on craigs list within a day
bought a 150 gallon tank from my friend for my male and female ball python
(hope they breed this spring!!)
I would stay away from SGS 4G if I was you because the application storage is too low for me.
G2x, on the other hand, has nearly 2GB for applications which is necessary for games (and newer applications take up to 50MB).

Broken Glass, What to do?

So I dropped my phone on some grass this weekend, broke the glass and now I'm not sure what to do.
A) Should I get it repaired? What would that cost?
B) Sell it as it? What is a fair price to ask for it?
C) Try to work with AT&T to get it replaced. I know, I might have some pull as I used to work there and the phone is for a very large business account.
Any advice would be awesome, thanks.

A) You can get it repaired or repair your self by replacing lcd/digitizer (100$) .
You can refer this thread for repairing cost and where you should get it repaired.
There is a guy who replaced the screen by his own, you can PM him to know more details. Link to this thread regarding lcd/digitizer replacement.
B) Ya you can sell it as it is . But I do not know for what cost - Wait for other members to reply regarding the cost
C) Before trying to get it repaired or sell , try your sources at att to see if they could provide you new device.
You dropped it on grass and it broke? Meanwhile people are using it as a hammer...I would call AT&T and complain you got a faulty one and maybe get it replaced. (ya never know)
Thank you both.
Yeah, I thought it was crazy too. It landed on a patch of grass around a bunch of dirt and rocks. I was thinking, I'm so lucky it landed on this 1 spot of tall grass. But I wasnt lucky. I'll try AT&T and see what they can do for me.
But please keep posting, as AT&T is well within their rights to tell me to go pound sand.
Do you have insurance? You can get a replacement for like 100$ if so

I have insurance with Ensquared. 99 bucks for 2 years 75 deductible. B
I have att insurance... $10 bux a month, $200 deductible. Get raped from them no matter what.

Wait, grass > one X? That's some hard ass grass. But in all seriousness if you have or even think you have some pull at at&t I'd try that first...mainly because I'm cheap. You never know, you might get lucky. Plan b for me would be to just send it in unless you're confident in your tinkering skills. By replacing the screen on your own you run the risk of borking your phone completely then you're really sol.

It's also a pain to move the coverage from one device to another.
Insurance is just a pain in the ass altogether. Unfortunately, when you don't get it, then you need it. I was impressed, however, when I replaced my HOX because they had a brand new HOX at my door in less than 24 hours. Too bad for them I'm taking it back today to get another so I can root and unlock. CLEANROM, Here I come!
I believe I've read that HTC will replace the screen for 200 bucks. A 200 deductible for insurance is just a plain rip off. Verizons maximum deductible is 99 which is much more reasonable considering your paying for it even if you don't use it.

Deffo at a lower price, everything over here is way more expensive compared to the US, even the cheapest off-contract Nexus 4 costs 700 dollars.
However the phone is always in stock which is a good thing.

Damn...25% tax and i thought Canadians had it bad. It's probably going to still be more expensive than other Qi chargers.
I hope this gets available across EU soon. I would like one at my office and on my night stand!

You're going to buy 2 at $114/piece? $228 to charge your phone? I bought a 6 foot $1 USB cable from monoprice that charges my phone at my workdesk (laptop charges phone) and I just use the regular charger at home.
Yes, I want the orb, but no way in hell am I paying $114 for it. People that pay that much is why the price is so much, thanks!

I've read that some Swedish online shops marked them as available starting in February for 75€. I'd post the link but its not in English, so...
i am really curious. I want to have this orb or any other nice qi-charging, but everything i found isn´t what i am looking for.
i do not know if it makes sense at the moment to worry about the price. It hasn´t been relaesed yet and so the final price isn´t known.
everything I know, is that it is a nice-to-have, but not a must-have, so I will not pay any price.
One thing, I am wondering is: why the hell do they start in norway and switzerland? I mean, I deign them to have it ... but this seems to be unusal ...
Hope this comes to the UK soon, and at a reasonable price as well. Should surely be less than a quarter of the phone's price. It's only a charger!
