Wow.
I dont even know where to start...
So i have a RN5, and was pretty excited to know, that MIUI 10 stable global is about to happen.
I'd never really thought this will be the worst MIUI experience ever.
First impressions was that the statusbar looks ugly af. Its bigger, bulkier, more thicker, its just ugly in general. MIUI 9 alredy had a pretty slick design, why on earth do you need to change that.
Some texts HUGE, even if im on the ''xs'' settings under display options...
Next, i came to realize, that the most loved feature (by me) was also gone: if you enable ''silent'' mode, it will NO LONGER MUTE MEDIA. I had to use a Samsung device for a week, and this really struckt me. I was really happy that MIUI have this feature, since its the most obvious thing in the world...
If i enable silenced mode its because I WANT MY DEVICE COMPLETLY SILENT. Not because i dont need ringer, but i dont need any sound. So instead of hitting a toggle button, i now have to press the button, and then select media, and then slide it mute as well.
Alright, lets move on.
Xiaomi said in their EVERY ADVERTISEMENT that it will be better experience on full-screen.
Well, nope.
Apart the new multitask screen, its even less usable.
On MIUI 9, I was able to enable 'force close' applications by enableing 'power+back button'. Since this is also one of my most used feature on MIUI (when i had a Redmi 1s, i used 'longpress back button'), i was a bit sad that in fullscreen mode i cant use this, but i found a way mentioned above, even if it requires two hands, it was managable.
Now they don't even let me to enable that feature. Whats more, there's no alternative. This so called 'better fullscreen exp.' is total bullsh*t.
Lets get to the 'one-handed' mode. There's absolutely no alternative here. You can put that option in quickball, wich is still a must.
But guys.
Dear devs. Do you have any idea about how inconvenient this update is?
I had to used a Samsung A5 (2016), and even on that device i was able to get in one-handed BY SWIPING UP FROM EITHER CORNER.
The list goes on
Cleaner. Oh my god... I have some (50 something) APK file. I CANT DESELECT THE WHOLE GROUP. I have to deselect them ONE BY ONE...
This is just what came to my mind at the moment...
So far the only positive thing about this update is the 60fps option. And nothing else.
I like the new design, but its mostly annoying, what more, infuriating. I'm using MIUI since v5, and I only saw improvement until this point. This is by far the worst upate. Everything about the looks and desing, but fuctions get lost, usability it the worst.
So please mr. developers. If you wanna copy iOS, copy the whole thing. Not just the looks, but the functions as well.
At this point, iPhone X is way more usable than MIUI 10. Heck, even MIUI 9 offers better overall full-screen experience.
What the hell happened?...
Dear devs, shame on you.
Yes I know that's the reason I am using pixel experience 9.0
I've been using MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM since I got my whyred and I can't complain about it.
People are always begging for the Global Stable version, which I can't understand. At least the first 2 or 3 global stable releases are more buggy than Beta.
Beta ROMs are always ahead, with some great experimental features and other well tested and functional ones.
An iPhone X or equivalent provides a much worse user experience. But if you like iOS so much, don't wait for Xiaomi to copy it. Buy an iPhone and have "fun".
That silent mode, you can get the old behaviour by going into setting > sound & notification > silent/dnd mode > silent mode and enable mute sound stream.
For that bigger status bar, i just change the dpi in setting > additional setting > accessibility > display and set it to small which imo is better with this screen display...
What are you talking about boy?
Enable one hand mode and then enable fullscreen gesture...
Change status bar font using display DPI (settings additional settings accessibility display size)
Enable dnd to silence everything
Don't forget this is initial build with version number 10.0.1 and you can expect revs will add more features in future build, patience is the key and just because you didn't like this that doesn't mean MIUI10 is S#t
You are in XDA just flash any custom ROM and get rid of MIUI completely
All the things you listed are called "personal preference". Just because you dont like it, doesnt mean everyone dont like it or that its bad.
u dont like the looks?? ok install custom rom then its simple.
performance battery life camera etc are all good here. no bugs at all.
i dont understand why complain when u have a choice. this is xda man.u can get whole loads of roms out there. u dont like miui then install a custom rom its easy.
I can buy Mi Max 3 or even flagship like Note9 but I see no reason to go to another phone because I have 2 options:
- Masik X 1.1/1.2 + Kirks kernel Oced @2.15GHz
- Many AOSP/PE Oreo or Pie available: most are good enough to use as daily driver
I don't play games, need battery life so RMN5 is very ok for me now

I literally bought a Xiaomi phone again, because of MIUI. On my previous phones i used to switch ROMs, but MIUI 7 really got me, and im a fan of MIUI ever since. Hence, im really pissed off that they're ruining it.
And to be exact, i really like the looks, except the things that i mentioned above.
But however i hate iOS, the design of the full-screen navigation is far better.

Thanks for the heads up for the silent mode. Even on MIUI forum, no user ever pointed that out...
But sadly the bigger status bar that im talking about is alredy on smallest settings. Im even using even smaller DPI settings, but it doesnt really help.

What do you expect from the miui forum that ask stable release when miui 10 is still buggy(the early day of miui 10 beta) and keep blamming the dev cause of no new feature/just bug fix after the second public beta release with no suggestion at all (sometime even turn someone down cause of some UI suggestion). I wanna facepalm myself when i read their forum.
I find MIUI 10 very beautiful and promising.

After using miui I can't go back to any other. The features and functionality of this ROM is just beyond what I ever thought would be possible in an android device.
Their slogan is "Redefining Android" and they surely are.
I was on the fence if I should try this ROM or not since Weapon was pretty awesome too , but after trying this one I'm not looking back.
Thanks goes to Whitehawkx, Segnaro, Jface for making this happen.
****Note****: if themes are not working for you is because you need to go to /data/system and create a folder called theme.

Let's post the functionality that this ROM has for those that aren't sure what "we" are talking about.
I will post what I remember and then If you guys remember any other feature post it, then I'll update this post with the feature you posted.
Themes - can be downloaded directly from ROM and apply within the ROM. You can theme things separately like the dialer, status bar, toggles, icons, lock screens, messaging app, etc. You can dip all this with the theme manager engine they use. Ability to change fonts within ROM without restarting phone.
Features -
Dialer - record calls and take notes within the dialer during a call. Two big features I always wanted.
Dialer also works as a T9 keyboard
Browser - scroll up and down with volume rockers (pretty cool), hitting the back button actually goes back, not like other browsers.
Screenshots - by pressing menu+ vol down
Settings - Redesigned setting menu with added features and tabs to categorize each setting menu.
Ability to track data usage
Integrated app killer and app manger by long pressing the home key also by long pressing the back key, closes the app completely.
Lock screen - hold down home button will turn on torch
Toggles - when long pressing a toggle, it will open that toggle setting screen.
Camera - added features like Sutter control, zoom in screen, adjustable brightness on screen, touch to focus and redesigned camera skin.
A whole bunch more that I'm sure I'm forgetting or don't know about.
Keep posting features below!

Dude I totally agree, this rom is just amazing it pretty much uses the same kernel As cm so u know the speed is there, it actually feels a little more fluid. And on any other rom when u go to change the lockscreen or even launcher, u have to do a little , "work" and u have to be a little tech savvy for that part, but with miui they make it so damn easy someone coming from the razor could do it LOL , and there is so much options to choose from, **** sitting on latest kernel source, voodoo, and some badass 3d animations, very cool rom oh and moshe22 when u hit back with the browser it actually goes back a page u don't have to hit it a zillion times, the volume scroll is badass

I used MIUI on my G2 or vibrant, can't quite remember. I liked it a lot, but the battery life was so poor I couldn't stick with it. How is it on our phones? I don't need 15 or 20 hours or anything, but wouldn't mind something decent.
Also, are there different ports of MIUI for our phone? If so, are they all pretty much the same? Thinking I'm gonna give MIUI another shot, but want to use the version available that will leave the best taste in my mouth.

Been running Miui since last August/September, whenever it was ported to Evo. Sans CM its by far the fastest, smoothest, most stable rom out there. I haven't seen any reason to switch since it was released for G2x. I'm still on 1.7.26, and dont feel the need to upgrade. Thats how good Miui is.
On my G1 I was flashing roms every day. Moved to Evo/NS and flashed once or twice a week.
On my G2x? I think I've flashed mayyybe 4 roms since 4/20. Why? Cause anything LG touches turns to poop. No offense to all the bomb devs, but CM/Miui are the only things worth running on this phone. I dont get why anyone even wants to run a stockish build when CM/Miui are so much better in every single aspect.

Press and hold the back key in an app and closes the app completely instead of running in the background.

Hi all,
New to Android here. Just got a AT&T Galaxy S II Skyrocket after 4 frustrating years with iPhones.
So far I really like Android, especially that it lets you change what you don't like. I do feel that both devices are unacceptably tethered to their respective corporate landlords - and google is not necessarily better than apple in that respect - but Android lets you change that more readily. For instance myphoneexplorer lets you sync with outlook pretty flawlessly if you don't care to upload your info to google's "cloud", etc.
OK, I'm done ranting now but I do have 2 specific questions:
1. My particular SIISR does not display a visual reminder nor sounds a loud enough alarm when (a) I get a text, or (b) a calendar event comes due. It just makes a ridiculously soft noise that I miss every time I'm not standing in an empty recording studio, and even worse when I pull the phone the screen is dark so I have no idea what the feeble alarm was about. I expect the same level of alert as when I get a call, i.e. the lock screen lights up and I can read / snooze / dismiss as the case may be. This is really pretty amazing that such dirt-basic functionality is not included in the software, at the very least easily enabled in Settings. Am I really expected to turn on the phone and pull down the Notifications curtain to find out what is going on? If there is no workaround this will be a showstopper for me and I'll have no choice but to return the phone.
2. I like the idea of upgrading to a rom like cyanogen when it becomes available for the SIISR, but I am concerned about how at&t cottons up to having rooted and OS-reflashed devices on its network and what they might do about it, and more specifically what happens when updates are pushed down the pipe. What is you guys' real world experience with that?
Thank you for your feedback! I'd really like to stick with my new Android phone!
you go into setting and the sound option. click on volume and make sure it maxed out, then click notification ringtone and you can change the sound.
As for visual reminder its at the top left of the screen. Text shows an envelope and calender alert a different icon.. I use handcent for sms and it works way better than stock program.
Not sure if BLN works on the this model but try it. it will leave your softkeys lit when you have a text.
you can try different lock screens via golocker so that you dont have to unlock your phone to see what the alert was but to actually read the alert or know more than if it was a message or email or phone call you have to unlock it for security reasons as perhaps you get confidential material that not just ANYONE should see.
as for rooted and custom firmware its safe, and prevents stock updates from your provider. as android is opensource you are allowed to customize it.
As to #1, you can change the notification sound both in your email settings and in the phones settings/sounds area. As to it being a dark screen when you go to check it.. thats one of the downsides to this particular model, no notification LED.. there is an app on the android market called NoLED that will put a little picture on the black screen to make up for it. BUT I cannot vouch for whether or not it drains battery (my chief concern), just have to try it out.
#2 I've been on AT&T with a rooted/flashed phone of various models since 2008 and I've never had them notice/say anything. It does void your warranty flashing, but there are ways of getting it back to stock if you do end up needing that. At the moment on this phone I believe you can't get it *perfectly* back to stock, but just have to give the devs here time and it will be available eventually.
*NoLED is on my list of apps to check battery usage, I'll get on it and post again tomorrow
while the forums are a great resource for things, you will get answers faster if you just google (or youtube) things like 'how to change android sms sound'

BLN requires a kernel that supports BLN, its only a matter of time when one of these great devs on here creates one.
Handcent SMS (free in the market) has the option to have your message pop up and remain on your screen until you cancel it. Almost like the iPhone.
As what Jacob said, when you are running a rooted device, you are most likely running a custom Recovery like CWM. Its actually the custom recovery that prevents you from getting the updates Over The Air. HOWEVER, the way the devs work... those new updates will generally be available for you way before your carrier sends it to your device. So rooted or not, you're gonna wanna root it anyway cause you'll end up being one of the few who wont have ICS, or whatever.

Like it was said, you won't get updates from AT&T, but why would you want AT&T updates to overwrite your Cyanogen ROM?? When you flash Cyanogen (or any ROM), you follow that ROM and reflash when updates are available. So instead of relying on AT&T for updates, you'll rely on the developer of the ROM for updates. Also, as long as you're not trying to exchange the phone or anything like that, AT&T has no right to tell you how to use your phone. Root it, flash it...throw it against the wall...it's yours. Do what you want. Now, when you try to warranty your wall smashed phone, you better hope you have a stock AT&T ROM on there if it powers up. Every time I've warrantied a phone, it's been dead, so it didn't matter. If it won't turn on, they can't tell what ROM you have, and really, most of those "techs" just want to give you a new phone and get you on your way. Personally, I've never had a problem getting a new phone.
#1 go into sms press settings in there change your SMS ringtone. If you want an iPhone SMS type of visual reminder (bubble alert) download SMS popup from the market tinker the settings to your liking.
I'll suggest every new iPhone to android user to read the phones manual or Google your questions before jumping to conclusion that android doesn't have this and that. Most likely it does. You can customize android how ever You want.

Has anyone had experience with the Chinese GO Launcher and the widgets that come with it? They look pretty cool, and it seems they have the functionality I'm missing.
btw I can understand the "read the manual first" comments; I did read the manual and, not unpredictably, it said nothing about functionality that doesn't exit.
Thanks for all the input so far everyone!
I recently upgraded from the iphone to the Skyrocket, and am loving it. I wasn't sure whether I was going to like it the first few days, but now when I pick up my husband's iphone it seems like a toy compared to the Skyrocket.
I just started using Go Launcher Ex two days ago. It has a lot of slick and useful features. I haven't finished exploring all of the options available, but so far I'm enjoying the themes, locker options, and SMS pro. It's easy to try Go, and you always can uninstall it if you don't like it. I did have to redo my widgets after installing it, but that was actually kind of fun with the new theme I installed.
Not a huge deal but something to keep in mind with GO launcher.. recently noticed with system panel that GO launcher drains battery excessively when the phone is idle (device on but screen off), so i switched to launcher pro which drains FAR less with the screen off. The app is nearly the same as far as functionality, with one or two exceptions that can be added by purchasing the the pro version if you really need them (resizing widgets). I decided it was worth it to use less battery.
*note, im a battery stickler.. I can't stand any extra drain
more then happy to help you out.

I know switching from the Iphone to Android is a big change. I was so confused for about a week. Anyways, if you want I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about your phone. I use the Go Launcher and Go SMS , I know a lot about them. Anyway just PM me if you'd like.
it has been my experience, because all returned/exchanged phones are sent out for reconditioning, att nor does the manufacturer care what OS modification has been performed on the phone. I returned my cappy at the atrix launch and asked specifically about the issue of "stock" or not, then I handed my serendipity cappy right over. Never heard back from att since and I'm still upgrading phones today without any heat. no worries.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I'm really happy with Go launcher, and in fact have noticed much better battery performance than I had previously with a live wallpaper. But I'll look into launcher pro if the battery performance is a problem in the future.
i can confirm that Go Launcher DRAINS battery very much.....but i still use it i like to functions.
just letting you know
I installed GO Launcher EX, it looks very cool; polished and very usable UI is a massive improvement. I recommend it. Ditto GO Dialer / contacts, a huge improvement over stock. GO calendar widget is OK but not fabulous; it looks good though with the Transparency theme. GO locker was pretty but rather useless, I uninstalled it.
Installed SMS popup, works excellent. I'm happy with it. Who knew I'd get excited over functionality that used to be standard 6 years ago.
Then for my calendar I looked for an iPhone type of visual reminder (bubble alert) that wakes up the phone and displays even when the screen is locked. I only found two:
- Calendar Snooze, of which I am currently running the free version. It does the job, but it's sort of aesthetically challenged.
- The pathetic Nudnik, which I uninstalled immediately. It looks like it was designed by a pre-schooler.
Now I need to resolve my lock screen issue, then I'll be content (it locks up immediately whenever I press Power although I set the delay to 10 mins in Settings).
I think I'll give Cyanogen a whirl if it becomes available for Skyrocket.
Try iPhone Notification.
Hi Friends,
I have redmi note 4 with developer official miui 9 Rom.
The notifications are really terrible.
No content or option is available on lock screen, like we receive in other android mobiles, for example delete and unnecessary email right from lock screen. Also the notifications at notification panel are also badly optimized, again no option for gmail.
Is there any way that I can get default notification on this mobile, with options.
Thanks....
NvN
The main reason i switched to custom rom is this .. The notifications are really very bad and so cramped up..!! After coming from an OPO on Linage OS .. I just couldnt stand the customization's of MIUI. I think the only option is to switch to a custom rom.
Pretty sure we can't do anything for that.

The one i am using right now is Aosp extended rom.. Its really very stable IMO. Haven't found any bugs yet.. Its almost stock android with options to customize. So you can leave it vanilla or if you choose you can go for customization!
Do note that you will need and unlocked bootloader and twrp to flash a custom rom!
Let me know if you need any more details.
Hello everyone, I am looking everywhere to find a proper review of the MIUI 10 VS android Pie experience but no where i could find. Previously I did participate in some thread to ask similar question but I guess it is not in depth enough and it is not accessible to everyone, so here I would like to do a simple comparison between the 2 OS that I have been using so far. To be fair to developer, I would not mention which custom rom I am on for those as on both, i dont face any major bug that will break as daily driver. AFAIK, everything works fine in both MIUI 10 and Android Pie.
1.)Battery
- this is the most well discussed topic in all ROM. So i will put it as the first topic. From my experience of using both. MIUI 10 have better idle battery time and also usage time. People reporting android Pie have much higher SOT but from my experience. Nop. But of course, one thing i notice obviously is how consistent the Pie drain battery. Unlike MIUI10, it can stay at the 90-100 mark for long time, but then when it drops down to 80+ it will drain quick until 30-50% and then start showing slower drain again. Im not sure is it MIUI 10 done it purposely so people will have that placebo effect of "great battery life", but after all, the final SOT and idle time still show longer time in MIUI 10.
Winner: MIUI 10
2.) User friendliness
- MIUI gesture
Swipe up from bottom to back home. Swipe left or right from edge to Back, Swipe up and hold for like 0.5s for recent. then finally, swipe longer and hold for previous apps.
- the good: It is ergonomic, fast, seamless, and never ONE time failed me.
- the bad: especially in youtube or any landscape mode apps, the gesture will mess up sometimes, sometimes instead of following the screen rotation, it stays in the portrait mode of gesture, but sometimes it DOES change accordingly to the screen rotation. Plus if landscape + fullscreen video. 50% of the time I mess up on the gesture. but it dont takes more than 2 tries to get it correct.
Pie's Pill gesture
middle still act as home button. left navigation still act as back button, but with the missing recent button. It switched to the swipe up of the pill to get you to the recent screen. And by holding and sliding left and right on the pill will allow you to scroll around all your apps just like how you Alt-tabbing your window apps.
- the good: you can copy words/sentence from one page of the the pill pull up to another page. The page is not only a graphical image of your last used apps, but you can interact with the content within. Also the swipe up for recent had gotten faster and easier now to switch between apps. From my usage, switching between apps has become effortless with Pie, slightly ahead of MIUI 10 in this segment.
- the bad: the pill left and right sliding seems like a gimmick to me, I don't use it as often as it seems the recent will do the job. The pill left/right sliding require your finger to be on the screen all the time while sliding, and then release to the apps you landed. The problem here is that you don't often land at the right spot, it scrolls fast sometimes, and the other times, its skipping app to app, one by one.
Winner: MIUI 10
3.) Exclusively Features
- Digital Wellbeing by Pie
This is the best awesome thing I can say happened to Pie. Many of us here are obsessed with our phone. Picking up almost every second our mind went blank or free for a second in our daily life. Digital Wellbeing is one of the apps that I hope it will be matured one day enough to allow us to use our phone in a mindful state. Not to be obsessed with it but not to throw it all together to get left behind the technology.
- Remote control by MIUI
The next best thing that I can do with my Redmi note 5 (whyred) is with the IR, i can control most home appliances like my TV and aircond. Which further improve the minimalism of my dream home because I manage to hide and keep all the controller in the drawer and control all with just my phone. And this is where MIUI did great at. Maybe there are 3rd party apps that function the same, but i dont bother to search one for it as the xiaomi build in one are just great.
- Google feed by Pie/oreo
This is the second most visited place for me in my phone. the google feed, I love reading article, update with newest update, world news, etc.... and this just made my life so much easier. Just scroll the the left of my phone and there i got it. LOVE
- vault by MIUI
The previous MIUI 9 i am using, have integrated (seems of) google feed in the app vault. It function the same by scrolling to the left of your homescreen but ever since I update to MIUI 10. the google feed is gone and no where to be found or make it available. I have tried many way but no. So the temporary solution is to place a shortcut of Goggle app on the home screen. Which is quite pain in the eyes to me.
-Drawer
Speaking of home screen minimalism. MIUI 10 do not offer drawer, while Pie does. So to make a clean and minimalist homescreen with Pie is just a breeze. But not that bad on MIUI 10 either. I group 4 folder. Junk, Google app, Tools, Daily. and just with 4 folder my MIUI 10 is clean. But of course I prefer one with drawer. After some understanding of the MIUI 10 gesture that I love of, it make sense that a slide up drawer like the Orea/Pie will not be able to work fluently. SO ya, we have to sacrifice something else to get the thing we want more.
-Alarm
This is a small issue here. Both winner here on MIUI 10 and Pie. Why? Because MIUI 10 has a smart alarm, which give me gentle wake comparing to those old school alarm we got. The smart alarm offered by MIUI 10 is great and amazing. First, it plays soft music, then it will report the current time, today's weather, and remind you to be happy today. (all spoken in chinese). Yes I am chinese so I understand what it says. I cant find anywhere else to change setting for the smart alarm (language, type, sound, etc) So I will assume it only speak chinese for now. XD
While at the same time, Pie implemented a new clock that the alarm is sync with spotify! Here, I can make one playlist, with all gentle wake up music as my alarm, so my alarm will not sound the same anymore. It's very difficult to comment which is better alarm here. MIUI 10 alarm give me a smile on my wake up time. and the weather today, so I know how i need to wear to my office. while the Pie one give me a fresh new alarm everyday.
-Clock
A quick one here, the clock in Pie remain the same except the alarm+spotify, but the clock in MIUI 10 almost got a complete overhaul. The timer especially, have a build in Zen function to me. You can choose the sound to play thruout the timer you set from Campfire, sea breeze, to forest sound.... Which is a very fast and simple companion apps for me to practice my meditation.... very very very practical to me. Not at all a gimmick feature
Winner: Both, I wish there is a rom that I can mix and match with aroma and to get the best out of both world. Both have their own signature here. especially the Pie with their new Digital wellbeing.
4.) Responsiveness
-First, I don't like to compare the "free available ram". For me this is bs. The ram is there for a reason and the purpose of ram to be there is for you to store temporary memory, so why clear or why you need to have a lot of "free available ram"? Those are unused memory and its just a waste. So as long you are using your phone and your ram still able to cope with your number of "active app" opened .... then you are good to go.
- The responsiveness I am talking here is the buttery and fluidity of the phone. The scrolling seems to be a tad bit smoother in MIUI 10. But the animation of Android Pie is unbeatable. The moment you pull up the recent with the pill, and select any apps, the apps just trigger and fire up seamlessly almost like instant. You still see tiny stutter in MIUI 10 edge gesture especially if you pull up to return to home gesture.
Winner: Still MIUI 10, because of how buttery it is scrolling social apps like insta or facebook.
REMEMBER... this is not a bias review nor an 100% accurate review. It is all base on my personal experience. I have been flashing and trying rom and kernel since many years ago, and I know much or less, and I know what thing is BS and what not. Currently I am still on Pie, but seems like Masik just release their new Masik X. I am very eagerly to jump back to MIUI 10.
For your info. Im a die hard fan of pure android, since the samsung galaxy nexus, to nexus 4, the redmi note 3, and now note 5. I swear by how much I love pure android experience. But today, MIUI 10 is really catching up the game. Be open minded.
Just gonna put this here for y'all

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77175633&postcount=111 I have achieved 12hours of SOT in MIUI
If we do WiFi browsing we can achieve 10+ hours SOT easily but if we do 4G browsing then it is not possible to achieve 10+hours SOT
With 4G browsing maximum I have achieved is 8hours SOT

Thanks for showing the image. My review is not to beat out one of those. I love both of it but some bit from each of them. But from your image, i think it will be misleading if you dont explain clearly. SOT depend on usage a lot. it varies from user to user. Plus it depends on ur signal strength on both wifi and 4g. and from your picture, it seems that you are not on your data. and probably thats is the reason you have strong battery life.

I agree with this post. Much more informative. Else it can mislead many newbie and newcomer who dive into the world of flashing and tweaking.

thanks for the info. It's logical if that is the case. Normally some user like me have 4g on mostly all of the time which ranging from 25-35 hours of phone usage per charge.
For me:
- Pie better: battery, temperatures, smoothness, memory management
- Miui 10 better: features ( remote, dual apps, VoLTE, dual 4G, themes... ), mobile signal, stability, stock camera, some Miui based Rom has good enough customizable

Im just curious how everyone say Pie got better battery. Mind to share experience? I tried both. clean flash, no root, no magisk. same apps and same usage pattern. Both battery seems similar to me with MIUI 10 idle drain seems much significantly better than Pie.

Mobile signal should be the same in all the roms (same modem if we want to stay in arb3). However MIUI is more optimist with the indicator.

It's possible to update the modem while your on arb3, without updating the bootloader itself so you can stay on arb3. People on arb4 modems would be all different depending on which update there currently on.

Maybe it just indicator. I will try again next time. With me after updated to latest Bootloader, phone seem perform a bit better. Older Bootloader useless for me because I will never lookback ARB3 fimrware.

Nothing special for me: format, wipe all, flash Rom + Magisk, restore apps by Titanium Backup, using L Speed to get better Doze

If you mean the icon that represents the signal strength, in android they can be flawed and aren't reliable indicators, need to look at SIM status where it says Signal strength -108 dBm 32 asu that's an accurate number.
Not sure if that's what you meant, yeah modem, and dsp, and bluetooth can all update without the bootloader. :good:
Plus if landscape + fullscreen video. 50% of the time I mess up on the gesture. but it dont takes more than 2 tries to get it correct. @kuance in fullscreen setting there is a option, during fullscreen video or game gesture require two swipe to take effect that maybe the reason

Yes, thats the reason but i do not want to turn that off because i need to secure my video experience just in case i accidentally swipe it off.
@kuance well mate, I totally agree with you. I was a huge Nexus fan but I have to admit that Google has lost is way. Google gesture are ridiculous, they have simply redisigned the old navbar. No gesture at all, no full screen use, no killer feature compared to other OEM.
I would like to consider also security of a rom, and Xiaomi is pretty quick in merging monthly security update.
I have bought whyred to run Los or other custom rom, but I can just say that now I can't find any good reason to change MIUI 10 with any other rom in xda. And it's just because MIUI 10 is simply amazing.
I think that sooner or later Xiaomi wil be involved in some privacy issue, cause I'm pretty sure that a lot of user info are sended to Xiaomi servers. But I'm not an idiot, and I know very well that using a smartphone, any Smartphone, your privacy simply does not exist.

Yo bro, im glad that someone understand the intention of me doing this comparison. I am not here to bash how bad Android Pie is or whatever bad thing it has. As I said, i am a die hard fan of nexus and pure android experience. I remembered my Redmi note 3 pro. The first day I unbox my phone is also the first day I switch to pure android. In the meantime, trying to switch to MIUI trying to "give a chance" to the so called "bloated" OS.... I cant. I give up, and still back to pure android. But it's different today. It seems that the chinese has closed the gap (if not ahead) of what their big brother is doing now... Cheers.
ps: i still hope Google did something amazing like what they have in the past. Well, the new digital wellbeing is great.... and thats all.... even the smart alarm from MIUI 10 is amazing. But that's special case for me because I know that theres not a lot of chinese here.
Hey, I've been using Poco X3 NFC for around 2 months now..and the refresh rate switching bugs me..when there is slight stuttering and slow animations.
Thx to XDA now through set it application, ive set it to 90hz for most of the time..but still there is some stuttering felt when u scroll the home screen of the launcher slowly..or the phone settings application..or gallery..sometimes chrome too..rest is smooth..can anyone suggest a fix? Also note that when I restart my device, then for 2 or 3 days it runs buttery smooth as.i wished it did constantly.. but after that the stuttering and slow animations appear through normal use..rest performance is fine during gaming and social media scrolling..but I don't like the dynamic Refresh rate switching..I wish it was set to permanent 90 Hz Instead of 120hz..

Sounds like you installed a lot of bloat on your phone. I would advise to search your app list for power hungry behaviour (always running in background, disabled battery optimizations, etc.) or even for suspicious and malicious spyware like Twitter and Facebook.
If you find such apps, remove them and try again. I'm sure the stuttering will vanish.

Thanks for replying..man but I checked and I don't have any add issue..and no bloatware except one cod game..Facebook or YouTube and Instagram..and I've restricted their activities..plus the ram is 6gb of which 3gb is available mostly..due to mui being a heavy ui, are u using Poco x3 as well? Man I wish there was another suggestion which I could try to make the stuttering vanish, and I think the stuttering issue is there due to dynamic Refresh rate switching..it's software issue on poco's part..waiting for more tips..here as I want to get this stuttering to vanish..

I use POCO X3 NFC surya with OctaviOS (Android 11, AOSP) with firmware version 12.0.3.0. I set static refresh rate to 120Hz and it is as smooth as butter. Have no stuttering at all. If you are interested in what exactly I did, read this comment.
P.S.: I have no Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or whatever installed.

Ahan man ?so you're using custom ROM..yes that's nice..can you share an ss here of how it looks and how's the experience compared to mui..ik it would be much more stable than this heavy skin.i don't hate mui but if I could get more smoothness then that would be amazing ..at the moment man I won't custom flash for Rom just now but maybe after several months..and updates if things do not get better I will..any tips for dynamic Refresh rate switching though man.? If I want to use the stock mui ..I'm on version 12.4 and Surya model..

I never used MIUI. I instantly flashed the custom ROM, as soon as I was allowed to. Before that, the phone was just laying around, waiting to be flashed. I have no idea what spyware this Xiaomi software has, so I refrained from using it all. That said, if you don't do extensive backups, then your data will be deleted on flash anyway, so why would I bother using the stock ROM for 7 days, just to remove it afterwards, anyway.
That said, I already heavily customized all looks, so potential screenshots wouldn't show how the custom ROM would look, instead it would only show how my personal customizations look, so no point in showing screenshots of that. Additionally, the parts that aren't customizable, like the Settings App, just looks like a stock Android 11 Settings App, I guess.
Finally, if you want to know more about OctaviOS, you can check out the thread I mentioned earlier. If you get to the first post of the thread I gave you my comment from, then there will be an explanation on OctaviOS and its feature set.

Right man..I respect that choice of yours using custom ROM..and tbh I think I'd do the same but only after some months.. I'm thinking that maybe future updates..and mui 13 next year would solve the trick..so got my fingers crossed..but when and I will flash my phone using a custom ROM..I'd definitely keep this OctaviOS in mind..thanks man
