Default Android notification for Redmi note 4 - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi Friends,
I have redmi note 4 with developer official miui 9 Rom.
The notifications are really terrible.
No content or option is available on lock screen, like we receive in other android mobiles, for example delete and unnecessary email right from lock screen. Also the notifications at notification panel are also badly optimized, again no option for gmail.
Is there any way that I can get default notification on this mobile, with options.
Thanks....
NvN

The main reason i switched to custom rom is this .. The notifications are really very bad and so cramped up..!! After coming from an OPO on Linage OS .. I just couldnt stand the customization's of MIUI. I think the only option is to switch to a custom rom.

Pretty sure we can't do anything for that.
Switch to custom rom.

Thanks,

The one i am using right now is Aosp extended rom.. Its really very stable IMO. Haven't found any bugs yet.. Its almost stock android with options to customize. So you can leave it vanilla or if you choose you can go for customization!
Do note that you will need and unlocked bootloader and twrp to flash a custom rom!
Let me know if you need any more details.

[Q] What about MIUI?

Soo.. I know the title isn't very specific.. but I would like to throw a question in here and get some responses..
So.. WHAT excatly is MIUI compared to other ROMs?
To me, MIUI is "just" plain (AOSP?) Android with every single "GO"-App available. GO Launcher, GO SMS.. and so on.
So.. what does MIUI exactly have, that e.g. CM with every app changed to some GO-App doesn't have?
MIUI is skinned to kinda "copy" Iphone-style..sure.. but is that really all?
Benchmarks show there are some differences..
So I wonder what's left of MIUI if you install a MIUI based ROM and change any GO-App to another one?
________
'Cause most ppl say they love MIUI for how it looks like. But honestly.. I could also use stock Android with e.g. Motoblur and change the launcher and so on.. so why going through the hassle to root and install a completely new ROM?
Ty everyone
And yes, I used the search, but didn't find anything relevant.. maybe because "MIUI" & "GO" are a liiiiittle bit vague
We need to know the history. MIUI just want to be like IOS, but in the Android enviroment. AOSP is just a plain OS, CM was loaded witb tons of tweaks but the UI not that eyecandy. HTC? Good but too dark to be like IOS and bloated. So MIUI with the UI mimic IOS with slight modification came. For me it is another CM with the stress more on UI.

Ps sorry for bad English
Wasn't the first MIUI ROM was found accidently? IIRC, the dev passed away and his work was found and released. Maybe I'm thinking of something else?

A renaissance artist perhaps? MIUI is developed by a Chinese team and someone came across it and started translating it.
There's plenty of info and screenshots etc. over at http://www.miui-dev.com which is the site run by the translating team.
Essentially it does largely look to be making Android more iOS-like. It's based on FroYo AOSP (Gingerbread soon) but with a _lot_ of alterations. It shares a little bit of code with CM as far as the addins.
In my opinion MIUI is the first Android Distro because it proposes a completely different way of Android where other ROMs are just forks.
Miui is the simple face of ios with the power of android.

MIUI has the most powerful and easiest theme engine..I really wish it was open source so others could use the theme engine..Its really that nice and simple to use..such a shame..
MIUI is so much better then stock android:
here's a list of apps that avalible only on miui:
Monitor (let you block apps and see how much data you have used)
Theme manager (no more zip's, really easy to theme stuff)
Better mms app
file mamanger
Miui gallery and camera
miui music
special lockscreen - much better the stock
folders - better the stock
quick settings on the notification bar
better phone app
easier to use setting's
miui wheater (avalible for all now)
some widgets like conatcs and etc...
if you chineese you can use the update app which auto update your phone to the latest version.
battery monitor
and much more that I might forgot
I'll go ahead and toss my two cents in...
Simple version-- I rooted my phone about 6 weeks ago, I flashed several roms in the first two days. (Cyanogen, Mikfroyo, Myns) Then I flashed MIUI. That was the last time I flashed a rom...
(If you want to know more, PM me and I'll give you the L O N G version of why MIUI is the best in my opinion)
Not a single one of the "GO" apps I've heard of including the two your mentioned are a part of MIUI. The post above me outlines a lot of the features but there is also so much more. I just discovered a feature the other day I never realized was there.
Try it, if you don't like it, NANDROID!! Make sure to grab yourself a few themes off of the MIUI forum. Again, I've installed one theme since I flashed MIUI ignoring the other 100 simply because what I have, Elite HD by bustadroid, is the best damn theme (period)
I just started to use Miui Camera for my Milestone today. Awesome fast!
Maybe can someone compile a list of Miui's apps and post links here?

Girlfriend ROM

Hi,
I'm getting an OPO for my girlfriend. What ROM should I flash on it or should I just go with stock?
Stability is the most important, since she's coming from an iPhone 4s and she hates 'ERRORS'

Install Sultanxda's ROM on her phone. It's been (for me) by far the most stable that fixes many OnePlus-specific bugs, such as all the Camera faults (Snapchat flash, double-exposure on flash, better at focus).
Do a clean install with TK GAPPs, depending on how much stuff she wants on it.
Install Google Camera; it's been the least buggy for me, and it just works. CameraNextMod is a bit wonky on this ROM due to its modified OxygenOS camera libs (which are superior to CM's). ColorOS camera is also a bit wonky. The Snapdragon Camera that comes with Sultanxda's ROM is kind of inconvenient to use, but works pretty well if you look past its user-unfriendliness.
Install Android System Webview and disable the AOSP webview.
Install Google Keyboard (or another if she has a preference) over the AOSP one.
Install Google Messenger over AOSP MMS.
Enable Developer options(tap 'Build Number' in About Phone multiple times) and scroll down, set Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale all to 0.75x
Install Nova Launcher and use it over Trebuchet, set Scroll Speed to "Fast" in Look & feel in the settings.
Good to go.
I'll be here first line support. I my self uses Boeffla and Nightly Exodus, but do not think she would be happy with daily updates of here phone.

Then dont update it daily, if you dont need to. Its perfectly fine to keep running a nightly if its stable and doesn't have any major bugs. You can always set it to check for updates monthly or not at all. If you're running it also you can be the tester and only update when you have found it to be running ok.
I've not had a single error or issue with 100% stock CM12S so I'd suggest you just leave it as it is

MIUI 10 is utter SH*T.

Wow.
I dont even know where to start...
So i have a RN5, and was pretty excited to know, that MIUI 10 stable global is about to happen.
I'd never really thought this will be the worst MIUI experience ever.
First impressions was that the statusbar looks ugly af. Its bigger, bulkier, more thicker, its just ugly in general. MIUI 9 alredy had a pretty slick design, why on earth do you need to change that.
Some texts HUGE, even if im on the ''xs'' settings under display options...
Next, i came to realize, that the most loved feature (by me) was also gone: if you enable ''silent'' mode, it will NO LONGER MUTE MEDIA. I had to use a Samsung device for a week, and this really struckt me. I was really happy that MIUI have this feature, since its the most obvious thing in the world...
If i enable silenced mode its because I WANT MY DEVICE COMPLETLY SILENT. Not because i dont need ringer, but i dont need any sound. So instead of hitting a toggle button, i now have to press the button, and then select media, and then slide it mute as well.
Alright, lets move on.
Xiaomi said in their EVERY ADVERTISEMENT that it will be better experience on full-screen.
Well, nope.
Apart the new multitask screen, its even less usable.
On MIUI 9, I was able to enable 'force close' applications by enableing 'power+back button'. Since this is also one of my most used feature on MIUI (when i had a Redmi 1s, i used 'longpress back button'), i was a bit sad that in fullscreen mode i cant use this, but i found a way mentioned above, even if it requires two hands, it was managable.
Now they don't even let me to enable that feature. Whats more, there's no alternative. This so called 'better fullscreen exp.' is total bullsh*t.
Lets get to the 'one-handed' mode. There's absolutely no alternative here. You can put that option in quickball, wich is still a must.
But guys.
Dear devs. Do you have any idea about how inconvenient this update is?
I had to used a Samsung A5 (2016), and even on that device i was able to get in one-handed BY SWIPING UP FROM EITHER CORNER.
The list goes on
Cleaner. Oh my god... I have some (50 something) APK file. I CANT DESELECT THE WHOLE GROUP. I have to deselect them ONE BY ONE...
This is just what came to my mind at the moment...
So far the only positive thing about this update is the 60fps option. And nothing else.
I like the new design, but its mostly annoying, what more, infuriating. I'm using MIUI since v5, and I only saw improvement until this point. This is by far the worst upate. Everything about the looks and desing, but fuctions get lost, usability it the worst.
So please mr. developers. If you wanna copy iOS, copy the whole thing. Not just the looks, but the functions as well.
At this point, iPhone X is way more usable than MIUI 10. Heck, even MIUI 9 offers better overall full-screen experience.
What the hell happened?...
Dear devs, shame on you.
Yes I know that's the reason I am using pixel experience 9.0
I've been using MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM since I got my whyred and I can't complain about it.
People are always begging for the Global Stable version, which I can't understand. At least the first 2 or 3 global stable releases are more buggy than Beta.
Beta ROMs are always ahead, with some great experimental features and other well tested and functional ones.
An iPhone X or equivalent provides a much worse user experience. But if you like iOS so much, don't wait for Xiaomi to copy it. Buy an iPhone and have "fun".
That silent mode, you can get the old behaviour by going into setting > sound & notification > silent/dnd mode > silent mode and enable mute sound stream.
For that bigger status bar, i just change the dpi in setting > additional setting > accessibility > display and set it to small which imo is better with this screen display...
What are you talking about boy?
Enable one hand mode and then enable fullscreen gesture...
Change status bar font using display DPI (settings additional settings accessibility display size)
Enable dnd to silence everything
Don't forget this is initial build with version number 10.0.1 and you can expect revs will add more features in future build, patience is the key and just because you didn't like this that doesn't mean MIUI10 is S#t
You are in XDA just flash any custom ROM and get rid of MIUI completely
All the things you listed are called "personal preference". Just because you dont like it, doesnt mean everyone dont like it or that its bad.
u dont like the looks?? ok install custom rom then its simple.
performance battery life camera etc are all good here. no bugs at all.
i dont understand why complain when u have a choice. this is xda man.u can get whole loads of roms out there. u dont like miui then install a custom rom its easy.
I can buy Mi Max 3 or even flagship like Note9 but I see no reason to go to another phone because I have 2 options:
- Masik X 1.1/1.2 + Kirks kernel Oced @2.15GHz
- Many AOSP/PE Oreo or Pie available: most are good enough to use as daily driver
I don't play games, need battery life so RMN5 is very ok for me now

I literally bought a Xiaomi phone again, because of MIUI. On my previous phones i used to switch ROMs, but MIUI 7 really got me, and im a fan of MIUI ever since. Hence, im really pissed off that they're ruining it.
And to be exact, i really like the looks, except the things that i mentioned above.
But however i hate iOS, the design of the full-screen navigation is far better.

What do you expect from the miui forum that ask stable release when miui 10 is still buggy(the early day of miui 10 beta) and keep blamming the dev cause of no new feature/just bug fix after the second public beta release with no suggestion at all (sometime even turn someone down cause of some UI suggestion). I wanna facepalm myself when i read their forum.
I find MIUI 10 very beautiful and promising.

Why Aren't Custom Roms Devs Doing This?

So far, I have installed over 9 custom roms, and none of them has Dark Mode for Messages & Phone apps. (except OOS port)
devs have been focusing on dark theme all across the device, yet not a single rom has dark messages & phone app.
And no, downloading Phone & messages from google play isn't a solution.
Is it actually difficult to implement?

Of the 9 custom ROMs you have tried, did you try flashing Pixel Experience? The stock Messages app can be set to Dark Mode. The Phone app automatically becomes dark when you set dark mode on PE.
I think it's also implemented in other custom ROMs, and MIUI has it in their beta.
A simple use of your Google-fu will lead you to Substratum, which themes ROMs
Also, devs have their own timetables that we should respect. If the frameworks they work with don't allow it, then you should probably politely ask and wait for them. Before asking them if it is difficult, ask yourself if you have Google-d enough or used the search bar at XDA more.
Please check your custom ROMs CAREFULLY. Or maybe try Pixel Experience.
Hope that helps.

Yes I have. Great effort by the devs but definitely the worst experience a user will have if they want any type of customization.
I came to the Poco from Pixel 2 xl and I had the pixel for only month and sold it because of its terrible UI. why? because what kind of software makers take a step back when improving a software? for as far as i remember, the recents clear button has always been .25 second away from clicking the recents button. But Pixel UI went out of their way to make the clear button at the end of the list and you have to swipe through all your recent apps to hit that button! OOS and MIUI kept the button on the same place where it was in Oreo, except Pixel!

I know about substratum but why would a user who installs a custom rom need a third-party app to theme stock messaging and phone apps when they should be dark by default when enabling dark mode all cross the device?

I do respect their timetables. And I have no idea whether the framework allows, hence why I started this thread to have input from different people.
Why do you sound annoyed by me asking if it's difficult? you know a developer can come to this thread and literally say yes its difficult and that would be enough to know why the idea is not being implemented.
And trust me, I googled enough and used the search bar.

In the context of the Poco F1 (or any other phone that is not the Pixel 1/2/3/3a and XLs for that matter), Pixel Experience is a custom ROM for these reasons:
Pixel Experience is not a GSI image that we just put in Pocophone. It also has its code based off Lineage with Pixel sources too (and with CAF, Qualcomm-specific code).
Try flashing MIUI stock straight on top of PE. You'll see lots of errors, simply because the frameworks are different. Stock ROM for Poco is MIUI. You can try checking the Poco out of the box.
Expounding on the topic, xiaomi.eu is considered a custom ROM because it has system level changes for the removal of ads and Chinese localization (apart from the fact that it is deodexed). If xiaomi.eu is a custom ROM in itself, then by what claim can we say that PE is non-custom?
Please have a look at this changelog for the CAF version of PE (I think AOSP has it too) : https://github.com/PixelExperience/..._caf_beryllium-9.0-20190505-2106-OFFICIAL.txt
Of course, you might have a different view of what "seems custom", but the vast difference of the PE ROM from the MIUI ROM speaks for itself that it is indeed custom (BTW, there's a high chance that ROMs that require you to flash them through TWRP is custom).
My apologies for a rather harsh attitude earlier. I'm here to inform and respectfully agree or disagree with what I know. Have a good day.

Legit concerns. I personally like how Huawei implemented EMUI and OOS on Oneplus. However, I did answer the mere question of the existence of a dark mode, as the Messages and Phone apps on PE is bundled as its default.
I will concede that Android Messaging apps are a mess, whether through their inconsistencies and their UI. But we can only hope for better things.

The aim of LOS is near stock android. The stock android is just AOSP, if you use aosp, google can't make money from it as it's open source. If you use their Google services they can make money. If stock android's Messaging app and Phone app has the good features (dark theme, call screening etc) like Google's Messaging app or phone app, every one will prefer that and google might face a loss. As los is based on aosp (for some extent) you can't have dark mode there. Each and every custom ROM is based on LOS, so no you can't have dark mode. You can either use PE which has Google's messenging and calling app or use substratum theme engine.
I'm not 100% sure. If I made a mistake please correct it. Thanks ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯
Have you tried to use Google Phone and Messages apps? I'm using them on lineageos and they has dark mode
Just use these apps.
if you're already flashing gapps, why dont just enable Google's Phone and Message app since they have dark mode and just a lot better than any of the custom rom's counterpart? And their dark mode is not tied to the ROM, ever.

Yes I have, that is pretty much the only choice left

Why do you want to use AOSP apps instead of Google apps?

Always on Display

I updated to MIUI 13 and since then performance in games has become really bad for some reason.
I have tried 2 custom ROMs, Octavia and Arrow OS, but I don't see any type of AOD customization. (The games run well on there though)
What I really want to know, is there a way to save an AOD from MIUI and put in back on in a different ROM?
I tried installing MIUI themes app where you download the AOD themes from, but it doesn't run as it is obviously missing dependencies on the custom roms

What kind of AOD customization would you like to see? In my opinion AOD on custom ROMs is sufficient, simple yet informative enough (time, date, alarm, battery and notifications).
You can always try third-party app for AoD, but whichever I tried before, it didnt meet my expectations
Never heard of MIUI AoD extracted and I dont think it's possible...
