So I was pretty unsatisfied about the advertised and actual performance of the device in terms of benchmarks, atleast in the default version of the MIUI installed. Strangely, the graphics and the storage performance was much inferior than all other 845 flagships.
But then I saw few people on youtube posting increased benchmark results after flashing MIUI 10. I was intrigued by this, and to test whether or not this conception is actually correct, I decided to note down the numbers myself.
At the end of the day, the result is still not entirely clear, due to the fact that somehow 3DMark's OpenGL ES 3.0 and 3.1 tests were unable to run on MIUI 10 (8.9.4).
Okay enough talking, let's see the numbers. Also, unless otherwise mentioned, on the top is MIUI 9, on the bottom is MIUI 10. Both debloated.

As you can see, the score is pretty low on MIUI 9 and faaar below the advertised as well as the average. MIUI 10 however, does justice.
Not only the graphics score is much better, the storage score is also heavily increased. Here are the detailed scores shown below.
Now, on the light of recent events (the OEMs cheating in benchmarks), I was skeptical. To check whether similar trend continues or not, next up, I put GeekBench's CPU test.
Alright, CPU performance seems unchanged, just like Antutu reported. Let's try the GPU (Compute) Test.
Say what? GeekBench is reporting much lower RenderScript scores on MIUI 10 than 9. Is it really some kind of "special modification" by Xiaomi for Antutu? I'm not quite sure. I would have if 3DMark would have run, but now, I'm really that not impressed. Some GFXBench results do show some improvements on FPSs for some tests, but others remained same.
Let's check out the storage performance.
So at least some sigh of relief. As reported by Androbench, the storage performance is indeed increased in all categories.
To double check, I ran PCMark's storage benchmark too.
So, in conclusion, storage performance is indeed increased on MIUI 10.
Overall I'm liking MIUI 10 way too much. It's battery performance is also much much better than MIUI 9. But the whole Antutu thing made the numbers look very fishy.
Now, I don't want to conclude anything. By part, because 3DMark didn't run, and by another part, because MIUI 10 is still in closed beta. All in all, MIUI 10 looks very promising, and no doubt it will get more polish before it officially comes out.
Hopefully 3DMark will run smoothly by then and give us some concrete numbers to reach to the conclusion.

Thanks for your feedback, very interesting and complete.
Thanks for sharing.
Jeeeesus, i'm getting 10h on screen time on MIUI 9.6.22 .... how can it be even better ??? And the UI is speedy as F already .....
I'm very very curious if I'll even notice the difference when MIUI10 officially arrives.

I am on MIUI Global 10.2 Stable (6/64). I ran Androbench and I get quite low Sequential Write Speeds (Screenshot attached). I repeated it a few times and the Sequential Write Speeds still hover around 100 MB/s.
Could this be a hardware issue with my device?

Multitasking in miui is a bit different and its awesome, also it depends how you configure it in the security app.
U have to lock your apps in the recent apps screen. Otherwise if the app does nothing in the background, OS will kill it.

It's not awesome! It's terrible. The lazy OS don't do your job and play it to back of users.
I hate to lock/unlock the apps, it's feels like a workaround.
Poor RAM management on my Mi5 is the main reason I'm not using it at the moment.
After going back to my HTC 10, it's amazing how terrible it is on the Mi5. To be fair, the 10 has an extra GB of RAM (4 vs 3 on the Mi5), but still, the overview screen (recents) always lists >500 MB free, yet still closes apps so quickly, even music apps while they're playing music.
I'm intend to buy a Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus, the 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM edition, I think it would more fast than Mi 5, But I'm not sure. I saw someone say 6GB OnePlus 3 still shutter.

It is indeed faster. SD821 configuration differs significantly in the LITTLE cluster with 820. The one in Mi 5s Plus is clocked 2.2 GHz, much higher than 1.6 Ghz in Mi 5 Prime/Pro.

Never had issues but ram management seems to be poor in miui.
Terrible RAM Management on "Distributor edition" MIUI 7.
Phone sometimes lag (terribly), restarted but still lags.
It even managed to restart during a boss fight in a game! Just wonderful!

If anyone has flashed this, could you please report if Camera 2 API support is present and/or if Google Camera works without problems?
Really wish more people would take interest in Aqua (Mi4S)
I flashed open gapps and getting play service crash errors.
@hrkfdn No camera api2 support

I've flashed this ROM and been using this since for few days now. But few bugs I've come across are -
1. GPS doesn't lock as fast as MIUI. GPS is major issue. (Sometimes doesn't lock at all and needs a reboot)
2. Battery - Quite good, I'm getting 2-3 hours of SOT with always 3G on.
3. Sometimes heats a bit.
4. Wifi is causing battery drain.
5. Sound is not that great, sometimes sound is getting distorted.
6. Sometimes device lags, happened 2-3 times since I started using.
Despite above bugs overall ROM is very smooth, stable and can be used as daily driver (Who doesn't care much about GPS and battery life bcoz I'm going on a adventures vacation and I'll need working GPS, I gonna switch back to stable MIUI).
All the best and Happy flashing!!!
Many people complaint about hot and lagging in APP/game in MIUI even if the spec for their device is good in paper.
The reason here very likely is MIUI roms restricting almost all APP/game in standard usage. (eg. directly clicking the game icon from the launcher)
If you want to have a better experience, but still want to stay with MIUI, here's a simple illustrated guide to Try.
(Not guaranteed definite improvement, some APP/game are poorly designed and not optimized)
Root is not needed. Guide for newbies. Feature offered by MIUI.
If you are in MIUI roms, start your APP/game using the built-in "Game Turbo". (Don't know which MIUI version it starts having this)
It will let the APP/game run smoother and (s)lower heat generation. (not "no heat", just "(s)lower", a bit )
2 places to find "Game Turbo" setting
1A) In settings, find and click "Special features"
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Next, click "Game Turbo"
1B) Press the "Security" app [It may ask to agree or not data collecting, I always denied, but you can still proceed]
Next scroll down and find "Game Turbo"
2) In the "Game Turbo" app
3) Press "+" to add APP/game
4) Add any APP/game you want it to run better. (I debloated intensively, and did not install much apps, so not much in the list, but you can see Magisk is inside)
End note
So if you think any APP/game is not running smooth enough in MIUI, first try adding it in the game turbo. (even Youtube can be placed inside)
Here's someone with his Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G comparing between standard and game-turbo using Geekbench. (Source)
Standard test (not in Game mode)
Game turbo test (Adding Geekbench app inside)
Obvious improvement outcome.
Wrote this in POCO X3 pro, but it's not limited to this device, as long as the MIUI has this option.
Otherwise you can use Custom Roms and kernels.
Last note
Always keep in mind that everything comes at a price, you increase performance, you may loose more battery charge.
And I don't recommend using while charging. The device will be very hot and bad to your battery in long term. Heat will damage many part of the phone, and can even burn you. (Literally)
If you are wealthy enough to change your phone so frequently that you don't even want to concern the long term damage to phones, then forget about it and go for the TOP. (And coffee for me )
You can copy/paste with XDA thread as source.
Nice one, tho you can just cut it all of and say: put your desired apps into game turbo
I recently have just update my phone to 12.5.3, it fix some heat problem but now i cant play genshin at 60 fps, i know it because the battery and performance restrict the game, but cant turn it off, does anyone face this problem

Add the game to Game Turbo option should help a bit.
Same problem. On 12.5.2, games were running great and no issues at all. Now the performance on 12.5.3 is so bad, im getting very low fps. Even Honkai Impact runs horribly now.
The same happened to me on cod mobile, I update to 12.5.3 and I've fps drops and more thermal throttling overheat

Have you tried this guide (requires root) to decreas thermal throttling and optimize performance?

The problem is that the 12.5.3 update broke the gaming performance whereas 12.5.2 worked just fine. Hopefully they fix this on the next update, I'm opting to rooting my phone if it does not.
allegedly xiaomi is throttling performance on that update.
Set Driver in Developer settings to system graphics driver or game driver or via adb
So 12.5.4 just came out and gaming performance is a lot worse, wtf.
MIUI xiaomi.eu 12.5.3 in app FKM cpu offline 1,5 make game lag?

Seems like it's time to ditch MIUI and start using crDroid.
I've been very frustrated with my current 4a 5G. It seems to have trouble managing with 6GB of RAM and redraws every time I switch between apps.
I am considering upgrading to the 6A but I see thatit also has 6GB. Has anyone gone from 4a 5G to a 6A? Is performance any better?
The other thing I was wondering if it pays to debloat things like Digital Wellbeing etc (I'm rooted) to free up RAM and improve performance.

I looked up a quick comparison. You will find it below:
Pixel 6a:

Pixel 4a 5G:
It seems cpu is almost double the speed of the 4a 5G.
GPU is about 3x.
Memory is about 30% faster.
User experience is 50% better.
Overall, even though it has the same RAM (6GB) you will be dealing with a much faster and smoother phone experience with the 6a.
Also, you're guaranteed a longer shelf life of Android updates, but we all know that, don't we? :3
Thank you for this!

Task swapping wise its the same, I am also struggling. Waiting for 7a and 8 to see if 8gb becomes stock, or maybe 8 will get a 12gb variant.
What all are you all doing on these phones?
I consider myself a fairly power user of the phone (not gaming or streaming but actual work, including collecting 3 gmail and about a dozen other imap accounts, maps (waze and G), communications (incl. G voice, What'sapp and a few others).
I use Nova and I have a half dozen widgets.
I don't see my phone struggling with task swapping or anything else very often (occasional glitch here and there but I'm being generous if I say it happens 4 times a month) so I'm not sure why yours would be so disappointing.
I'm Magisk rooted and running the recent quarterly Beta but my exp. so far has been pretty consistent starting with Android 12 and through to now.
There might be some resource hogs you need to hunt down or otherwise try to figure out your bottleneck. I don't think your experience, or OP's, is very typical.
Good luck.
