Hi
I am starting to look for a new phone to replace my HTC Desire which is coming to the the end of its contract and will be due an upgrade in January. I have been looking around for a new phone, but i am struggling to know what to get.
Obvious one to look at would be Samsung Galaxy Nexus, galaxy s2 etc.....but they seem massive against my desire...
If people own one of these phones, do they not find the size is a hindrance while on the move?
I Guess my question is what would people suggest as a good phone to get which is a similar size to the HTC Desire?
By the way i live in the UK, if that affects what is available.
thanks in advance
Andy
Similar size would be Nexus One, Desire S or the slightly bigger Nexus S. Apparently everyone needs phones the size of laptops now so there's not much choice for normal sized devices.
I recommend the Desire S
Actually no, its not much of an upgrade, but if you are happy with the Desire, you could upgrade and get a Desire S on a even cheaper contract.

I managed to lose my precious HTC Sensation XE and am wondering what is the best thing to do to replace it...
I have briefly looked on Ebay and the going rate seems to be 300-350 UK pounds. A brand new one from a reputable store 400 UK pounds.
I read on an Ebay page that one seller had a careful note of all ID and serial numbers in case anybody returned a phone that was not what it was when origanlly sold - which alarmed me that some may be selling fake or rebadged phones in some way.
[Questions]
Can an HTC Sensation XE not be a real HTC Sensation XE?
What is the best way to check if I buy one on Ebay?
What are the horrible cons I should be aware of?

Yes It can, The only difference between NORMAL and XE is Beats audio, The NORMAL Sensation has 1.5ghz processor (but it has been down clocked by HTC to 1.2ghz) Whereas the XE hasnt. I Have a NORMAL Sensation, but with XE ROM so you would never know....
Check the sellers feedback, Look if he has sold several of these phones and make sure the feedback is positive.. I Would avoid buying from overseas... Like China (massive for fake stuff)
CONS -- There arent many cons, If something seems too good to be true it probably is... Always Make a safe and secure payment via paypal, that way if the seller is dodgy you can claim your money back...
Keep your wits about you and you will be fine, A lot of these phones maybe unwanted upgrades, Ive done it myself in the past..... Get an upgrade and sell it for £300 - keep my current phone which i am happy with - everyone's a winner
Not everyone is a scammer, But they are still out there.....
EDIT: The NORMAL Sensation is quite a lot cheaper than the XE, So if i was you i would Buy a NORMAL one and get Flashing some XE ROMs.. Save your self some money
Grand advice azzledazzle, thanks.
I particularly like the cheaper Sensation option - I hadn't actually considered that, but as I'm not now tied to a provider I won't worry about breaking the warranty rules or whatever so this makes perfect sense - flashing ROMs will be the way to go from now on...
Although I have just looked at the HTC One and I'm very tempted to order a new phone instead.
Bad news guys
HTC has announced that its 2012 flagships, the One X and One X+, won’t be receiving any updates past Android 4.2.2.
htc one x 1024x576 HTC: No more updates for One X and One X+ past Android 4.2.2
The decision has been met with considerable criticism on Twitter, and rightly so, especially in the case of the One X+, which has been left in the lurch only 14 months after launch. What makes matters worse is that neither device will be getting Android 4.3 either, a version of the OS that came well before either phone reached the usual 18-month support cycle extended to flagship devices. It’s a scenario reminiscent of what happened with the HTC Sensation, a flagship smartphone for which support was dropped after just one major update.
HTC issued the following statement:
We can confirm that the HTC One X and One X+ will not receive further Android OS updates beyond Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed both devices to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.
The decision to not update the One X series is also disappointing when one considers how HTC has been pretty great at updating its latest flagship, the HTC One, to newer versions of Android, with the KitKat update hitting unlocked models in the U.S. within a month after Google released the update for Nexus devices. Hopefully, it’s the same level of support HTC will extend to future devices as well, though even it does, One X and One X+ owners likely won’t be putting their faith in the company when they’re due for a smartphone upgrade in a few months.

Was this entire post all your own original writing? It looks like it came from a news site, if it did you should probably quote the source.
I'm not sure why everyone is so surprised about this news though. It's been a pretty well established fact that 4.2.2 was going to be the last official update this device would receive. And while I don't agree with HTC's update policy and schedule it does make total sense considering this device is now 20 months old. I probably won't buy another HTC device purely because of their inability to update their devices in a timely fashion (the 4.2.2 update came something like ten months after it was released by Android).

To be honest I ain't that worried about the device being at the end if life.... Cause the sprint evo 4g lte is getting 4.3 sense 5 and we can port from that... But ontop of that in the ElementalX thread Zarboz said he's gonna take care of us with a 4.3, and 4.4 sense kernel.

Do remember that some One S got the JB update, while many others on the unsupported chipset were left in the dark.
I'm still keeping hope that the One XL will at least see another Android update, maybe some fixes for the current stock rom, or at least Android 4.3. And if not, for reasons NOT due to our Snapdragon S4, THAT can be met with criticism to HTC.

Not for nothing but HTC always has excuses for why they no longer support older devices.
Excuses are like a--holes. Everyone has one and they all stink.
They gave some cockamamie reason why the Desire HD will no longer receive updates.
On the other hand, a much newer yet weaker device was receiving further updates.
A year later, that device was no longer receiving updates.
I am seeing a trend.
As much as I like the HTC Sense, their lack of supporting old hardware is becoming a major gripe.
If I wanted lack of support for older devices and being forced to spend money on upgrading to a new device, I would switch to Apple.
This is complete BS!

Well of course, the real reason is that HTC is very much hurting financially, and aren't going to dedicate resources to supporting older devices. If this also drives some to purchase newer HTC devices, than that's all the more reason. Yes, its a shame for those that want to stay on this device. But HTC is going to do what they have to do to stay in business.

The problem is that HTC is further alienating already disgruntled customers by taking this course of action. I understand their motivation, they are a business after all. But I also understand why people are upset about this move. I probably won't be buying HTC and I upgrade, purely out of principal. I just don't want to give my money to a company whose main priority is to gain new customers rather than maintain existing customers, it's even at the expense of existing customers. It's a real shame because I think their devices are really solid.

I have to agree. If I wanted a good experience without needing updates I would get a sony phone. My next phone will probably be a samsung since they're so popular and have good dev support.

Meh. Obviously, everyone here already knows about Nexus phones. Anybody can get the latest OS version by buying a new phone. That's not the point. This is a discussion about the phones we already own.

He does have a point though. I bought a One X, even with intuition nagging at me to buy the SG3, because I really loved my Aria (the first HTC I owned) and I wanted to give HTC one more chance. Now, AT&T and their new "Next" program has me stuck with no more early discounted device upgrades, and still on JB. I hope that the last update for my One X breathes a little new life into it, but my next device is going to be a Google Play edition phone, a Nexus, or a Moto X off-contract. I'll spend the extra $$ to get something that isn't going to be a disappointment in three months.

Yeah, but the post I responded to by musician_it didn't tell you anything you didn't already know, did it (or anybody else here for that matter)?
Just my opinion, the Nexus devices have been pretty underwhelming (hardware-wise) for several iterations now. HTC simply has the best hardware around, and has for years. Its simply a shame they can't provide better long-term support on the software side.

"actively exploring" =/= won't do
Might not happen given their track record, but it's nice to think about on this Monday night.
I think it's because though our chipset can definitely handle Kitkat, HTC probably wants to handle it in such a way that the international users who don't know the difference between HOX and HOXL won't think HTC is discriminating in our favour.

Its different hardware, so therefore different software. That is all he is saying. Lots of people get confused that the "international" One X (Tegra3) has so-and-so update, so why don't we (Snapdragon One X/XL), thinking its the same phone, when its not.
Well, according to llabtoofer, maybe HTC will update this device to kitkat too!

Maybe a petition is a nice way to convince HTC

Hey people,
I got a HTC one x+ here and I am tired of HTC support so I'm moving to another phone...
I would have bought galaxy s5 but Imo the phone looks bad and if I compare specs, oneplus one beats it like a boss...
So I want to buy a new phone somewhere in august, should I wait for a better phone or buy the 64GB OnePlus One?
Share me your experience with this phone please, thanks

Seems that it is very quite here, look as though no one is interested in it.
I saw reviews saying that there is issue with the microphones when making calls, but no where else to get answer.
If you can get ahold of one, yeah, it'll be worth it. Hopefully by August they'll be readily available. Of course, by fall it might be "obsolete", surpassed by phones with Snapdragon 805s or 610s or whatever with QHD screens, but even then, at the price they're selling for, it's still an amazing deal.
The majority of the people reading these forums have never used a One so they can't really give you an honest opinion.

Hello guys,
I currently own a HTC 10, and i have it since 3 years. I plan to get a new phone, and i can't decide which one. I was thinking of U12+, but i read online that there are many issues with it.
Do you recommend HTC U11 on 2019? What are your experiences? Is it still fast after new updates? Does it sound as good as they claim?
Any answer is appreciated!!
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
U11 is still a great drvice. Oreo on it is very Fast and smooth, the battery is good for an average user(1,5 half day). Camera is good and with the gcam even better(night sight is awesome).
You cant go wrong with this device even now but as it seems you keep your device long enough I would suggest to wait a little bit and see if htc releases another flagship sometime. I dont know how much of a difference you will see from the 10 to 11 cause I never had the 10.
If you dont want to spend lots of money the u11 can be had cheap from ebay brand New. If you can spend a little more just go for the u12+ or wait. You can go over to the u12+ thread and ask opinions.
Thabnks for your reply mate.
It is time that HTC has a new flagship.

I'm still driving a U11, it is a fantastic phone. Its beautiful, my blue glass back dazzles people. The unlocked version was just updated to Pie.
I'd say go for it.
