How cheaply made is the plastic side rail on the premium ? - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

This is the only thing concerning me... a cheap plastic side rail vs a metal rail on galaxies.........
How "felt" is this and how flimsy is it exactly compared to samsung ?

I don't have a samsung, but the plastic side felt ok. Well I guess anyway you will need a case for it because of the glass back. I never liked putting on a case on my phone but for the XZP I had to...

Are the Seidio Innocases' rubberized texture of good quality?

I bought one of those $10 rubberized two piece snap on rubberized cases for my Diamond and while it looks nice and fit perfectly, the rubberized coating started flaking at the edges slowly and growing larger as I continue using the phone more. Once the rubberized coating is lifted, there's a glossy black surface underneath... and that flaked too revealing the cheap white plastic.
I'm wondering if Seidio's cases has this same type of rubberized problem. For $30 I hope not But then again my $100 Logitech MX Revolutino mouse's rubberized sides are flaking too...
I had both types you are talking about. The snap on two piece was crap. The Seidio is VERY good quality. The inside is felt lined and the outside is high quality rubberized. It's very light too. Highly recommend.
Just received the innocase for my diamond today. I am very disappointed with the quality .
1) the innocase does not fit perfectly. the top left corner may have a 0.1mm gap and every time when I hold the phone I feel the case moves and it makes some sqeaky noise
2) very rough edges. three sides of the case (top, left and right) all have very rough edges and if I push my finger on it and move quickly, it actually cuts my finger! Just imagine what's going to happen when I answer a phone call quickly and push the phone onto my face/ear!
3) on the back of the case, on the silver colour surrounding the camera, near the Seidio word, there is a big dent. Just like someone had tried to push a big needle onto the plastic and drilled a hole (almost). ugly as hell.
The photos on seidio's web site are all so nice but the innocase that I got is actually a piece of crap - it is worse than crappy chinese imports.

HTC Desire Case-Mate Tough Review

Hello all..
So, after I broke the screen on my Desire(the corner of the screen was bent-shattered by a jeans-pocket), I felt it was time for some sort of cover. I browsed through many, looking for a case that would protect the handsets backside as well as being tall enough to take the hit it the phone fell face-down.
I ended up getting the Case-Mate Tough case, from MyTrendyPhone. This order had my repair supplies (New screen and some screwdrivers) as well and they came within 3 days after ordering.
And I have to say, that I'm not disappointed.
The case is quite expensive for what it is, but it does it's job extremely well.
First goes on the silicone cover, followed by the hard plastic cover. The plastic part snaps into place easily, when alinged with the volume-buttons.
It's also tall enough on the front to take a hit when dropped face down, around a good 3-5mm from the glass.
The case has cutouts for the audio jack, microUSB and microphone. The volume and power buttons have their own places in the silicone part.
My only gripe with the case is that both ends of the phone are not covered by the hard plastic, and being only silicone there, when pulling out of a tighter pocket, they might bend, or even possibly tear the silicone apart.
I'd give this case 4.5/5, because of the not-complete plastic covering, and the price, but it's still an extremely protective case, doing it's job well.
Like the package says, "Think Rambo, only pocket sized."
IMHO
I ordered a Case-Mate Tough two weeks ago but I was disapointed because the the holes for the buttons don't fit exactly. After a day I returned the case and ordered the Otterbox Commuter which arrived yesterday and fits perfect.
What do you mean with the "holes for the buttons"? There are no holes for any buttons on this case..
I mean the holes in the hardcover part.
Ahh.. Now I understand. You might have just got a bad one because mine align perfectly.
Maybe, just want to say that.

Cases with snap-on screen cover?

I notice that most phone cases tend to protect the back and around the phone but not the glass side. Granted that we most likely put something on to protect the glass but still, phones tend to go into our pockets along with keys and potentially other sharp objects. Then there's the flip cover type of cases that flip on the top or side and will provide additional protection for the phone screen, but come on that might work for palm pcs but how un-cool or annoying it is to hold a flipped over cover over our ears.
Nowadays smartphones don't go on belt-clips but into pockets or purses, so for those of us who take good care of the overly expensive device I thought it would make sense to go with something like the flip-case but not permanently attached. Once I saw someone with a case on some phone that had a front cover that the phone could sort of slide into.. it was sort of similar to the good-ole TI calculator with the sliding cover where the screen could be facing inward or outward at our choosing. There are all kinds of cheap or expensive cases out there but usually there's nothing covering up the screen. The closest accessory that relates to the screen cover concept is the holster which usally have clips to go on belts. I guess a good holster would snap on and become part of the case (as opposed to an external piece) and also allows the phone to face inward or outward as well, so we could have it snap onto the screen and put in pant pockets. Perhaps there's no name for that type of case, but I could imagine many of us would be interested in such a case. I don't own a S4 yet but it doesn't hurt to get prepared. Does anyone have any recommendations for cases that have screen covers like I described?
it is also my problem. And i am looking for it.

Here is a list of cases:
Not sure about this one, but looks pretty dam good! (It comes with a screen protector)
http://extreme-shield.co.uk/products/samsung/samsung-galaxy-s4-sx-bumper.php
This looks good but bulky:
http://www.handtec.co.uk/trident-sa...e-black.html?gclid=CPn0vMj9vbcCFbMbtAodxxcA9Q
Not a bad looker:
http://www.otterbox.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-cases/samsung-galaxy-s4-cases,default,sc.html
All you need to do is google what you want and you will get.
Look into the Trident Cyclops case. Its a two layer, three piece case with a snap on front and rear with a built in front cover. It isnt near as bulky as the Trident Kraken but still has similar protective properties.

Thanks for the recommendations. Some of those are nice but I can't really tell if they have screen covers. They might have the see-through plastic or glass front cover but I'm not sure how well those affect touchscreen sensitivity. I know there are tons of phone cases out there if we google for them, but there's no distinctive name for screen cover so it's hard to find one simply by arbitrarily going to hundreds of cases. For example when we say "flip case" we know what it is, but cases with screen covers aren't popular enough to have specific common name. But like I said before maybe 'holster' is the closest name of the piece that serves similar purpose of protecting the screen, but most of them are designed for belt-clips and not meant to be part of the phone case where the user has the option of using it as the screen cover or another layer of back cover. Hopefully phone case designers will catch on to realize that most smartphones nowadays go into pant pockets or purses, so a screen cover for them would be useful. People might think that there's no need for screen covers if we put screen protectors on the phones. Perhaps that might be true if using the expensive screen protectors, but we're talking about actual screen covers that saves the screen from scratches here.

Give seido some time to make a rugged combo holster case , they made a Nice one for the old evo and photon 4g
Or use otter, im in the same boat I want the front and back snap cover style that drops over notification area , or something thin but with otterbox type protection.
I may be stuck with otter.... hate to give up the thin s4 just to protect it but I will at all costs.

Oh yeah those Seido cases look slick. Actually I kinda don't mind if the holster/screen cover piece makes the phone a bit bulky. The S4 is so thin that it could break in the pocket if something accidentally hit on it. I think some people said that their S4 screen shattered while in there pocket. So the case and screen cover make the phone a bit thicker, making it a bit less likely to bend and break.

Otterbox not good for plastic phone vs aluminum iPhone

So, My wife has an iPhone5 and had an iPhone4; both with Otterbox Defender cases. The design of this case (and the Commuter series
) is such that there are two hard plastic pieces that snap together around the phone, a back and a front with integrated screen protector, and then a soft silicone type of outer layer plastic that skins the hard plastic inside.
This is a very impressive case on an iPhone because not only is it very rugged. it feels very solid and premium (costs about $50 too!!)
So I bought one for my SGS4, and, while it is still rugged, I am not so impressed, because the case twists and creaks and feels cheap. I believe it is because the Otterbox design must differ from the iPhone version because the iPhone is aluminum cased and the SGS4 is plastic cased. The difference is in how loosely (tolerance) the pieces are designed to fit together for the SGS4 compared to the ones for the iPhone.
Here is why:
The iPhone, being made of aluminum, will not get scratched by a plastic case, therefore the internal hard plastic Otterbox shell can be designed to fit so snugly around the aluminum that it will not flex and creak when you try to squeeze and twist it.
The SGS4, while being pretty solid on its own, is made of plastic and can not hold up to squeezing it very hard like a metal iPhone and can be scratched, so Otterbox designs into the back part of the inner shell a thin foam lining. The foam lining is springy and compressible, which means they have to design in a bit more tolerance (looseness) so that the front and back plastic pieces will snap together before the foam lining is fully compressed. This creates the problem that the Otterbox case on a SGS4 moves and creaks when you squeeze the phone in your hand. It is actually VERY creaky!! Only just pushing the buttons makes the whole think creak and feel cheap.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is much that can be done with such a design, unless they omit the foam insert and tighten up the shell or reverse the design and have a rubbery inner shell and a hard outer shell.
Well, I ordered an i-Blason case that has a soft rubber inner shell and a hard outer skeleton. I think it will feel much more solid and less cheap (and costs 1/3 the price of an Otterbox).
We'll see how it goes!!

I have a defender case and I don't have these problems. The plastic doesn't creak when I squeeze it. Takes a bit of pressure to actually get the plastic tabs to snap around it. The rubber molding is spot on.
You might have a bad case, or slightly off case.
Dunno.
Not to mention the iPhone case has the foam in the back too.. my case just recently started feeling a bit loose but i believe i didnt but it on all the way snapped, when i first bought it, it was extremely snug
I think you might have a defective case OP. AFAIK, you're the second person I've seen make this complaint but neither mine nor my husband's otterboxes are creaky in anyway. Not only that, but the plastic shell fits our phones fairly snug which works in our favor because these are the best cases we could've gotten on the ground and I'm not too worried about the whole samoled cracking issue.
(S/N: Did I just write a run-on sentence? lol)
Mine was creaky also and Otterbox replaced it.
I havent used the replacement yet. I switched to a different case because I didn't like the creaking.
I always remove the screen protector and don't know if this makes it less rigid.
The Defender on the my wives Iphone is really solid though.
Do you keep the factory screen protector?
Also, My GS3 did the exact creaking.

Try getting it replaced. A sample size of one is not is any way considered enough to pass judgement on the tolerances and construction of a case and even moreso with a high end phone.

Yes, but I was told that stuff gets between that protector and the screen and cause abrasions. I have both the outer one and a cheap film one under. I don't have any problems with multitouch.
I've had the defender before on my droid x and I dropped it on some gravel, and being that it's uneven, having lips doesn't help. The gravel didn't do any damage to the screen protector. However, I have dropped my droid x before with cheap films and they always get holes in them.
i never liked otterbox. way too bulky. for iphone i guess it's ok coz it's a small phone.

I was pleasently surprised with how slim the GS4 defender was.
I have had otterboxes for all my phones, BB and smartphones.
They have always been big and bulky.
ohh and I LOVE otterboxes warranty policy, send them an email with a picture of the defect and they mail you a brand new case.

Moko Ultra Slim Case issue

Well I really liked this case, I've had it for about 2 months. Yesterday one of the two magnet strips in embedded in the plastic that hold the cover close came out of the plastic and stayed on the lid's metal clip. I figured, well I'll just super glue it in and it'll be fine. But this morning I took a really good look at the case and found two hairline cracks in the plastic, one around each of the magnet pockets. I pulled on the pocket without the magnet in it with my fingernail and it broke the plastic. Very brittle! So I'm still going to try and glue it back together but does anyone else see these hairline cracks in their case? I've never dropped my note with/without the case. The only thing I can think that could even contribute to it would be having it in my truck in the center console in the summer. Never exposed to long direct sunlight, certainly nothing that would cause the case to become brittle.
I have had that case since May. It is my favorite case.
I have had no problems with it, and none of the "magnet problems" that some speak of. That may be because the magnets are strong enough for the job but quite weak in some ways.
When using the case as a stand I find the magnet to case actually weak.
I thought the case was great, until I saw the effect it had on the digitizer. With Artflow, whenever I drew near the left edge, the SPen produced severe scribbles. I was not able to draw a single straight line. I'm worried if it would permanently damage my digitizer, as that is the most important part of this tablet. I'm now looking for a stand-case without a magnet.
I'm planning to sell this case for $10 including shipping. If anybody's interested please contact me.

One of THESE slim folio cases. I removed the magnet easily, and as it's hidden under the hand strap, you can't even tell.

My magnets came out too, both of them. I glued them back in, although I figured out that you need to let them sit up a bit so the cover stays closed I see the start of cracks where the magnets are, but no real cracks.
My magnets are fine, no screen issues to note.

Are the magnets really doing damage??? They have been using magnets in case for years...
I think that the magnet damage is a myth.

Yeah, I've used them for years without issue as well...the magnets do interfere with s-pen usage, not sure of long term effects to the screen (ie dead spots)tho.
