So, after I broke the screen on my Desire(the corner of the screen was bent-shattered by a jeans-pocket), I felt it was time for some sort of cover. I browsed through many, looking for a case that would protect the handsets backside as well as being tall enough to take the hit it the phone fell face-down.
I ended up getting the Case-Mate Tough case, from MyTrendyPhone. This order had my repair supplies (New screen and some screwdrivers) as well and they came within 3 days after ordering.
And I have to say, that I'm not disappointed.
The case is quite expensive for what it is, but it does it's job extremely well.
First goes on the silicone cover, followed by the hard plastic cover. The plastic part snaps into place easily, when alinged with the volume-buttons.
It's also tall enough on the front to take a hit when dropped face down, around a good 3-5mm from the glass.
The case has cutouts for the audio jack, microUSB and microphone. The volume and power buttons have their own places in the silicone part.
My only gripe with the case is that both ends of the phone are not covered by the hard plastic, and being only silicone there, when pulling out of a tighter pocket, they might bend, or even possibly tear the silicone apart.
I'd give this case 4.5/5, because of the not-complete plastic covering, and the price, but it's still an extremely protective case, doing it's job well.

I ordered a Case-Mate Tough two weeks ago but I was disapointed because the the holes for the buttons don't fit exactly. After a day I returned the case and ordered the Otterbox Commuter which arrived yesterday and fits perfect.
What do you mean with the "holes for the buttons"? There are no holes for any buttons on this case..
I mean the holes in the hardcover part.
Ahh.. Now I understand. You might have just got a bad one because mine align perfectly.
Maybe, just want to say that.

I ordered through DayDeals. I received the two halves that snap together, but no belt clip
I want to note that the sides not shown in the picture are white, and it makes viewing the sides inconsistent and kinda ugly. It fits like a very tight glove except for the top left corner. It doesn't snap down all the way.
The case is very light, and in my opinion flimsy. I don't care too much about protecting it from light scratches, as I've ordered a full-body skin from Zagg to do that. I want to protect it from accidental drops, and I don't think this case can do that for me.
It flexes easily and unnecessarily.
I do like it shape, if it were to snap down completely. It leaves the entire screen open for my fingers to fing, and all controls are easily accessible, no ports or holes are covered up.
I also noticed that having a case prevents my hand from touching the screen and screwing up the points at which the screen recognizes input.
However this is overshadowed by the fact that the case provides less friction or grip than the phone without the case. I found the phone would slip slowly out of my palms while trying to type in horizontal mode.
Pros:
Nicely shaped
Doesn't cover holes or controls
Very light and unobtrusive
Improves accuracy with touch screen
Cons:
Did not include belt clip
Flimsy
Slippery
Does not fully fit over the phone
Unlikely to protect the phone in case of accidental drops
Overall I would give this product 3 points on a scale of 10. For less than $10 I didn't really expect much. I'd much prefer a Body Glove hard shell case similar to the one I had with my MT3G.
I got the same case and have the exact same issues. Already ordered a TPU case to replace it.
I have the same case as well, and would have to say that I agree with all your points... one thing (maybe the only thing) I like about the case is that it didn't add a whole lot of bulk, and still fits in my Case Logic holster which already had a snug fit for the phone.
I got two of these off ebay and both fit the phone perfectly. I know what you're talking about with regards to fit though. I ran into the same problem with similar cases for the G1 several times.
I just ordered the body glove case online but having second thoughts after seeing pictures of the case-mate tough case. I'm more worried about dropping my phone since I think the body glove would just dismantle and crack itself if I drop my phone. With the case-mate, it looks more protected since the rubber is enclosed with a harder external casing. Can you guys post pictures if you could of the two cases, and what your experience been like using each one of the cases if you bought one.

I have the Body Glove case which I bought online. The day I tried putting it on the phone, I ended up breaking one of the tabs that snap the front to the back cover. Seems to me that the case doesn't really fit the phone like it should. Even now when I push down on the corner that is broken, there is still a gap between the front and back cases.
And since it is supposed to be tough to get this case off (refer to the Body Glove thread), I don't think it will snap open if dropped.
I have the snap on body glove, dropped it from 4 feet on to my dining room floor and from about 3.5 feet, on to the road where it bounced downhill a bit. The case did not come off either time.
I tried both. Definitely the winner is the Case-Mate. If you read a post in
other thread, you'll find out also that the rear cover of the body glove causes
some kind of scratch around the speakerphone and the camera. Not worth it!
don't get the two tone body glove. I had one and it was a b**ch to get off. I was scared that my phone was going to break because the case wouldn't freaking move. It's also tough to put on, and if like me, you got the one from the t-mobile store, it doesn't even fit right. there's an annoying gap in it that gathers dust and crap.
In addition, when I took it off, there were indentations near the headphone jack and near the bottom of the phone.
I returned mine today.
I was just looking at the case mate tough case, and does it have holes for the various microphones around the sensation's body?
What do people know about this product? Worth the cheez? Waste of time?
I'd like to put something on my phone until Otterbox arrives.

I got one on the backside of my phone.
Definitely has prevented scratching of the plastic piece that covers the battery compartment.
Doesn't cover the silver piece that comes down from the camera in the center.
Best thing we got until a proper case comes out.
I didn't like the front one, though, and used a different, thicker screen protector on the actual screen ( so yea, I bought two sets of screen protectors for one phone...)
I went ahead and purchased a Body Glove from the T-mobile store. They sent me a $25.00 gift card that I used towards the purchase price and I ended up paying about $6.00. It's a 2-piece deal that seems to work pretty well so far. the back cover is a rubberized panel that covers the entire rear half of the phone with a slot that leaves the camera lens exposed. it's thick enough to protect it from scratches assuming you don't keep your keys in the same pocket. The front is just a plastic frame that keeps the screen from touching any flat surface you might lay it on. The whole thing adds just a little weight to the phone and just enough thickness to make it comfortable in your hands too.
I was pretty pleased with the bodyguardz "full" protection I had on my G2. the screen protector itself was pretty awful, but the rest of the cover for the phone was good. (full in quotes because it left a few exposed corners)
I took it off when I sold the G2 and the phone looked brand spankin' new.. so I guess it did its job!
would buy again, although I think I will be okay with just a pouch with this phone.. not too worried about the plastic getting too beat up.
I had some on my Touch pro that I used for several years. The smaller pieces eventually peeled off and or changed color. But it did save my phone from several scratches over the years.
How is the back on that bodyglove case? The one I saw in the online store has a clip on the back. Does that protrude much? The case I bought doesnt offer a whole lot of extra room, and I'm not sure if my phone would fit with this thing on it.
I forgot about the clip-SORRY!!!! There's an option to attach the clip to it but you don't have to. it fits just fine in the pocket
note about the bodyglove- Since I recieved my new Anker battery (awesome so far) I've been having to remove and replace the back cover and I've noticed the grips on the corners have been scratching the phone just underneath the bezel. Not cool man...
Long-time lurker, first time reviewer. I bought the Poetic borderline bumper case from amazon in January, within a week of getting the phone. Bumper case, is just that. It protects the sides pretty well and enough of a lip on the back to keep the glass rear of the phone away from small objects when the phone is placed on a desk or flat surface. The case is grippy and I don't feel like the phone is going to fly out of my hands any more. It may have benefitted the case to have a little more of a lip on the front. I have a Zagg Invisibleshield screen protector on the screen and the edges of the case come in contact with the edges of the screen protector and I can see some pressure points developing on the screen protector in the past couple of days that I've had the case on. A little more of a lip would have helped by the case being able to overlap the screen protector.
I got the defective version of the case which literally fell apart at the seams within about a week of daily use. To their credit, poetic customer service replaced it with a brand new one immediately, for free, when I contacted them.
The case has held up decently for about 6 months but is starting to fall apart again at the seam on the bottom, near the power connector. The only other thing that I noticed is that the headphone jack cutout is a little narrow and headphones jacks don't fit very snugly and can pop out very easily. I will say that I am not going to buy this again but am looking for another case.

Yeah, I figured that. Just thought I'd add my 2c.
I have received this case from poetic to review and have used it for almost 2 days so far and here are my thoughts. This case is rather big, bigger than I'm used to, but not overly large. I can honestly say I am not a fan of rugged cases because they cause to much bulk to the phone.
The case comes in two pieces which completely close the phone and cover the headphone jack as well as the charging port. The case also has a carabiner loop for people who want to clip it on to something, eg belt/backpack. The loop does not interfere with putting the phone in your pocket. The case is still very pocketable. I have actually riden my motorcycle around town with it on my backpack, risky I know, but it held up fine.
Finally this comes with a kick stand which is very sturdy! The phone does not shake or fell unsteady with the phone in portrait or landscape.
Now on to the things that I do not like. This case absolutely cannot be used with a TGSP! I had roughly and 1/8" gap between the screen and the front cover. This made using the phone very frustrating because you have to press very hard in order for the screen to register a touch. I have not been able to test this without a screen protector, but this is the biggest downfall of the phone. The other thing is the back cover of the phone is pretty slippery. The sides have a nice grip but the back is slick and can easily fall out of your hand if not careful.
Overall this case is made very well for those interested in a rugged case who DO NOT use a screen protector.
Thank you for your review. If one was to remove the screen protector from the case, would you say the rest of features are recommendable? I have an Otterbox on my S4 that I did that with , because I didn't want to remove the screen protector from it and it worked great. I actually hate the integrated screen covers because they trap dust and scratch pretty easily.

Funny, works fine on mine with a TGSP installed and the built in screen protector removed. it also worked fine with the built in screen protector attached with my TGSP on still, just had to press a bit more forcefully. No gap.
