Verizon MMS with HTC U11 - MMSC working settings with Textra, other 3rd party SMS/MMS - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

I searched and searched for a while but mostly found complaints but no solid solutions to the issue with MMS failures on Verizon using 3rd party texting apps with the HTC U11. Excuse me for starting a new thread regarding this issue if it's redundant or if it's actually been answered. I just wanted to share what worked for me - and I am also very curious if anyone else actually tried exactly what I did here, just to find that MMS failed later on.
So I use AT&T and just finally switched to my U12+, and my wife is now officially the proud user of my U11 (previous phone was a VZW HTC 10). But she uses Verizon. Phone, data, LTE, VoLTE, SMS (regular text) all seem to work great so far. But then I remembered reading about Verizon ppl having issues with MMS with this phone.
So I basically noticed the APN settings are greyed out and I can't edit or create new ones since they're pulled from the carrier, that is, Verizon. Within the default APN, the MMSC settings are blank. Furthermore, the APN type doesn't even include "mms". C'mon Verizon... (see attached screenshots).
But Textra has advanced options to manually enter the MMSC settings. See other attached screenshot for the settings used. Now her phone is able to both send and receive MMS (pics).
- In case you don't want to view the screenshot - Textra - Settings - MMS:
- MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
- MMS Proxy: (leave blank)
- MMS Proxy Port: 80
So my ultimate question is, have any other users who have experienced this problem used this solution, only to find that it failed for no reason later on? Or hopefully, this may help other users; either way, sorry I'm so late to the U11/Verizon party. =D
Thanks.
PS: Also, if it makes a difference, everything is currently working even while heavily modified. Before setting up today, I RUU'ed back to stock with newest as of today firmware (2.42.617.7), flashed latest TWRP, installed Viper 2.2.0, Magisk 17.1, Cleanslate 3.7.17, a few Magisk modules (Enable GMS Doze, Google Framework, YouTube Vanced), AdAway is run and active, and more. I read some people who suspected Magisk or other mods were causing the issues, but it doesn't seem that way to me. Of course, it's reaaaally early to tell!
edit, 5 minutes after posting: also, I'm aware Verizon has also made a lot of progress in the last 12+ months in phasing out CDMA for LTE, so maybe this post is indeed outdated. We also live in NJ, close to Philadelphia, and most of the Tri-State area here is usually really good with most cell providers, so maybe that could be partially why we're having good luck with the U11 on vzw? I dunno, just a thought...

[Q] Mobilicity Nexus s 9020t MMS / picture downloading issue

Whenever I receive a text with pictures, it displays a downloading bar. When i click on it, it turns into a "downloading" and nothing happens. I've talked with customer support and they've suggested to add the apn on their site even though the phone already came with it by default. I don't have a data plan yet, so I'm not sure if this might be the problem. Any ideas?
Bump, anyone have this trouble also?
Tried calling for custom support, used the right settings for APN. Still cannot send pictures.
Data plan
Well, MMS does use the data and if you dont have a data plan and you are on prepaid service, you might not be able to use data at all. I'm pretty sure that in Mobilicity's case, the data used by MMS is just counted out of your data plan, its not a sepperate MMS messaging charge or anything like that. Also, make sure you have the correct APN settings, they have it on their website.
I do have the correct APN settings, MOWAP and MOMMS as detailed here.
Mobilicity has MMS for all their plans, regardless of data plan. That was exactly my first assumption that since I did not have a data plan, that pictures were not sending or receiving through.
Anyone have a nexus s with mobilicity experiencing the same problem? I've been calling custom support 6 times now, being asked to visit a local dealer, to a warranty support dealer, to back to the customer support help, and then to the samsung customer support. I've been going in circles, tried using a "demo" sim card in one of the mobilicity dealer place, no fix.
I don't have data plan. i can receive and sent mms
my settings
Name- T-Mobile US
apn- wap.voicestream.com
proxy 216.155.165.050
port 8080
mmsc- htpp://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
mms proxy 216.155.165.050
mms port 8080
mcc 310
mnc 260
in order to receive or sent mms you have to check "data enabled "
Well, I got my problem fixed! Apparently you DO need a data plan to receive pictures over mms. The plan states that phones can receive them without the data plan, but smartphones handles pictures differently than regular phones.
I tested out at one of the local stores, and it works. Not sure if like you said, I just need to have "data" on, or actually have the data plan. I'll try the first when my month runs out. Thanks!
Sorry for the bump but i thought it would be better than creating a new thread for the same problem. anyhow, I've recently picked up a nexus s from mobi (with the $25 data plan) and im having problems with the MMS. I usually get a message with the size details, and a "download" button, same problem as you had, it changes to "downloading", then nothing happens.
If i scroll up in the conversation so that the "downloading" button disappears, then scroll down, it's just back to "download." Sometimes (maybe 10% of the time), the message will come up as it should, with no "download" button, the picture just shows up.
ive double and triple checked that the APN settings are 100% correct, so that can't be the problem. I manually updated to the official release of ICS 4.0.3 (from this thread) last night, but it didnt work before either (came stock with 2.3.4) Sorry for the life story, but thanks for any help.

Strange APN [email protected]

Hi all
As a T-mobile UK customer I have been finding that I lose internet on my phone every 6 or 7 days, typically lasting for about 6 hours.
During my last converstaion with support I mentioned that i had the following in the APN settings
[email protected]
They seem to think that it might be a Tmobile USA profile and hence the problem (how the wrong APN could work for 95% of the time is beyond me).
I did take the handset to the USA last year but did not have data roaming turned on. Does anyone know how i ended up with the wrong APN? A quick google search returns no results for the APN listed...
I have since manually changed the APN and things seem ok (for now).

Whoops.... I have just found out where the the APN settings came from.
In an attempt to get my MMS working I just ran the HTC Connection Manager. For the first time in 1.5 years my MMS is working but I have noticed that my new APN settings say [email protected]
So it seems that HTC use APNs that T-mobile UK are not familiar with? Annoyingly I have no way of viewing the new APN or editing it
Does anyone know which settings the HTC connection manager uses? I am concerned that although MMS is working, if my internet connection goes down again, the UK helpdesk might just shrug their shoulders and pass the buck to HTC, who in turn will pass it back
Ok so I spoke to HTC UK today, they told that they have no way of finding out what APN their app uses, they suggested that I use the generic T-mobile APN that they have on their system, which I did and the MMS stopped working again.... so I ran their app and alll is fine again (for now).
I guess that I will have to try to email HTC. It is rather annoying that MS decided that customers shouldn't be allowed to see existing APNs.
I do have a dev account, tbh I only subscribed so that I could get mango early, if that means that I can sideload something that will show me the APN in use then please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Cheers

[Q] Is there a ROM (stock/beta/or other) that has sorta functional MMS for TMobile?

I have tried other apps like Textra, etc, but none of them can handle MMS properly. If I am on WiFi, MMS will never download or send. If I turn off WiFi, I have about a 50% success rate and they usually end up coming in hours later. I have tried different ROMs, different APN settings, different apps. It is a shame that T-Mobile sells this phone with pathetic MMS capabilities on their network. I understand it works fine with other networks, but T-Mobile is atrocious.
So, is there anyone out there using this phone T-Mobile who doesn't want to throw their phone in the ocean when dealing with MMS? I'd be interested to know your setup.
Thanks for your help?
not a single issue with sms or mms here, on tmobile in nyc. do you have the correct apn? or do you have it entered correctly? im using the fast.tmobile.com apn.
Same here no problems with native messaging app and textra
No problem with stock AOSP MMS or Hangouts or 8SMS. I did have trouble with another third party client but I don't remember what it was, think maybe Textra the same one you used.
No problems with MMS although I will admit I had some problems with MMS but that was the app's fault. I had to manually put the MMS because the auto detection wasn't working just yet. I'm using chompSMS. Textra SMS worked fine as well.
Ensure you have the right APN. Also the T-Mobile APN is fast.t-mobile.com the - matters.
No issues with Purity rom and MMS...
Go to Settings>Wireless&Networks>More>Mobile Network>Access Point Names and select T-Mobile. If there isn't one then add one with the name T-Mobile and the address as fast.t-mobile.com should fix your MMS issues

Which APN?
Are you on Android L? Sounds like the same issues I had. I tried all the APN tricks and it still wouldn't work. I would get them occasionally when off Wifi. On stock 4.4.4 I don't normally have issues with MMS.

[Q] Issues with Moto XT1045 and AT&T MMS

Hi guys - It seems my XT1045 just does not want to MMS, either send or receive. I have the AT&T Go Phone Service. I took my SIM out and put it in my iPhone 3gs and MMS works just fine. So it is not the service, but I am sure it is the phone.
I couldn't access the APN settings on the iPhone so I am not too sure of what is being used. I had UnLockIt.co.nz do the APN settings a few years ago. But now I cannot access that site anymore. So like I said, I do not know what the APN settings are.
I have tried different apps like the default app, an app called Messengers, and Handcent SMS, the results are all the same. I have also tried the various APNs for AT&T still with no luck. And I do have Data on, WiFi off.
So I raise the question, does anyone here have the XT1045, AT&T GoPhone Service, and capable of sending and receiving MMS?
Everything else works fine. voice, data, standard SMS, but no MMS.
Thanks,
Brian D
[Solved] Issues with Moto XT1045 and AT&T MMS
After much more research, I find that AdBlock Plus (ABP) may be the reason my MMS is not working. Has something to do with affecting Port 80 which is used by MMS to send and receive picture messages. I disabled ABP and it worked but not all the time. More research was needed.
Found that instead of using Port 80, I needed to change to Port 8080. This also worked. Started ABP and tested one more time. This time it worked. Not sure of the relationship of MMS Port 80 and ABP using/blocking Port 80.
The solution to this issue was to change my APN which is the default created either by the XT1045 based off of the network being used, or AT&T generated the APN. Either way, MMS Port should be 8080.

Can't send or receive mms anymore

As the title states I can no longer send or receive mms on att. The only thing I've done is root the phone. I installed Greenify but have since disabled it to make sure that's not the issue. Also I debloated some stuff but did that way before I rooted and way before the mms issue started. I checked my apn settings and nothing seems out of place. I created a new apn and changed the apn protocol from ipv4/ipv6 to just ipv4 per an older thread I found.
When I reboot the phone, all all of the mms will come through and I'm able to send them as well for just a few minutes and then the problem shows again. It doesn't matter which texting app I use either. Tried stock, Textra and handcent. All unique error messages of course but same issue.
Anyone else? Can't find anything similar.

Did you turn on your data?
Yes, data works fine.

Are you running AdBlock? If so, it's blocking ads and your MMS pictures on port 80. Switch your APN settings to MMS port 8080, and your MMS should work again. Had the same issue and took me a few hours to figure it out.
