If someone has lost it I'm guessing it will be blocked and won't be able to make a phone call or use mobile data. You should hand it in to the police to give the owner a chance of getting it back (they might have stuff on their phone that they want to get back) . If you don't then it is theft. I'm pretty sure no one on the forums will help you with this and I hope that they don't.

[Q] SIM unlock

Does anyone know if it is easy to unlock a network locked One S. Of course everyone is advertising imei unlock codes but I'm not sure if they would be available straight away. Has anyone successfully done this yet? It makes a huge difference to me whether or not I get myself a contract phone (cheaper) or by a SIM free one
Yes, I am after the answer as well, hope to hear from anyone soon.
thx!
theres this guide, But its for the Sensation - its a similar device in terms of spec.
the values maybe different, but if someone understands what they mean (not me) they might be able to adjust it for the One S.

Cant wait til development starts properly for this phone, Its really slow at the mo
unfortunately it didnt work for me

Sure it's slow, there are only 10 people who have it atm I will be 11th today hopefully.
Seriously, I wouldn't be too much worried, it's just first few weeks of its life. Which is exciting, I remember when I got my SGS in 2010. It feels great to be part of the development almost from day 1.

Very surprised to see this method in sensation. Cos to my understanding the SIM unlock is at network level rather than something you can alter on the phone. So I was wrong.
Hope the same method can be ported to one s in the future.
By the way, I know there are lots of website charges 10 or 20 pounds to SIM unlock devices, they send you an email with unlock code back short after payment is received. Just wondering if anyone had tried any website which does this for one s? Don't mind pay a small money just to avoid rooting.

Just wait, There will be a proper SIM Unlock tool soon
I hate it when phones come sim locked it drives me mad, Ive never had a sim locked phone from vodafone,,,, Although every one ive had has been branded I hate that too
if u can get a code cheap enough do it, But i wouldnt pay anything more than £10 for an unlock code.. There will be a tool for free posted on here soon

Disclaimer: Not tested as I have not rooted yet.
Try cat /proc/emmc
That should give a list of partitions. It may be that it's simply in a different slot.
You can compare it to the list at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168521
Maybe that'll be enough clues to find out where it is. Then simply run
strings -n 8 /dev/block/mmcblk0pX
after replacing X with your best guess
Hey guys,
About to buy a SIM locked One S today, anyone made any progress on a way to remove the SIM lock?
Cheers,

I've unlocked my HTC One S a few days after release from t-mobile. I just called them up and asked them for an unlock code. Took HTC about 3 days to finally give me one but all in all took me less than a week since release date to get it unlocked. Hope that helps people? Took me another 2 days to find someone with a non-tmobile sim to actually unlock the phone but all is done now.
Hi mate, i got mine unlocked off ebay for about £3..unlocked within 5 minutes
I called T Mobile yesterday and gave them the imei for my One S. I got an email this morning from them with the unlock code. I popped in my ATT SIM and entered the code and poof it was unlocked. It works on ATT HSPA by the way, if you were wondering

I did mine on ebay too (was a bit unsure but it was £15 for Three to do it) the item was #261012095238. It says on there the phone must be on server for a month but mine was only 3 days old and they sent me the code straight away (and it worked!)
Hope that helps

Thanks - I had only searched under "One S" which is why I had not found that one!
Could anyone who has used an unlock code to successfully unlock their phone take a look at this thread and see if you can help?
We are close to getting a free sim unlock hack for all but need a few contributors for testing purposes.
Thanks!

[Q] About JTAG Repair

Hey guys...
I was unfortunate enough to come across some aroma/twrp bug while updating my kernel and now my phone is bricked. Oh well, life happens. I am going to have to send it in for JTAG repair. I found that mobiletechvideos.com does JTAG repair for $60 so that's not all terrible. Do any of you have experience with them? Is there service good? From what I can tell they look legit..
On their website they also also have numerous "addons" you can choose for your order such as "ROM/Root upgrade service" and "S-off". Now, does that mean that once I get the phone back it will be in a state where I cannot root the device? I have my old bootloader unlock code from before... would that work to root the phone after this procedure is performed? It is my understanding that they (mobile tech videos) modify whatever image they push to your phone to include your IMEI information. Would that give me troubles if I tried to unlock the phone using my old unlock code?
Perhaps I should email them directly.
Anyway, what are your thoughts?
I would ask them, but I believe they can set things up however you want. I recall seeing one person saying they got it back s-off, etc.

Scroll down and you'll see a huge list of devices supported by the one box. More devices added with firmware updates to the box. Ships from the uk as there is no distributor on this side of the oceans. afaik
But there are distributers on this side. Madusa riff boxes will do the same thing. The JTag site has a list of suppliers that sell riff boxes in the US. Since more devices are becoming usb supported, the need for soldering is limited to certain devices.

does JTAG'ing void the warranty as they have to open up the phone? I haven't looked in depth at videos of people opening up the phone but I can only imagine that they ahve some stickers inside...
If not, I'd definitely send my phone to them if it meant I could get S-OFF even though I'm on JB

I imagine it voids the warranty. But then again, unlocking the bootloader and rooting your phone could also void the warranty...
Thanks Venomtester, I guess I'll start packing up my phone then.
I used mobiletechvideos to fix my HBOOT and S-OFF and they did a fantastic job on both. I would recommend them to anyone looking for that service.

Found a S3, how to get owners info?

I found a S3 today and it looks BRAND NEW. no scratches, in a case, looks perfect. So I want to be able to give it back to the owner. I went into my verizon store and they said they wouldnt do anything. It was a young guy and maybe he didnt care or maybe because its hawaii and everyone is laid back... Anyways, I want to be able to return this phone to its owner. I tried putting in random passwords for the lock screen and i got up to attempt 55 and its not asking for an email; though i dont know if it would show their email. Anyway I can hook it up USB and use a debugger and grab some kind of info? Name? Number? Email? Bypass lock screen to call one of their contacts? Any help would be great!
Call a contact in the across book or put up a craigslish add in lost+found

check if it has an sd card, swap it on your phone or direct to a pc, look for identifying information.

A carrier should be more willing to help you in this situation youre doing the right thing.

Carrier is not useful at all! i once ended up buying A AT&T Iphone and it was around the time they started Black Listing IMEI, Anyways long story short..the guy who sold it to me had stolen it! So went to the Store to try to see if they will call the owner and give it back. They told me if id try to do that i could possibly end up in trouble and just toss the device in the garbage or keep it as a Ipod.

That would still keep the lock if all you did was wipe the caches. I had an idea of maybe using a no wipe stock image to Odin flash but wouldn't the same thing happen with the lock screen? Either way, I think runs the risk of it bootlooping and there would be less chance of getting through and calling someone. If it's rooted, maybe there is a nandroid you could restore and maybe they didn't set the lockscreen up?

No still not because version's VOICE network is CDMA and if they don't have your ESN in their database you can't connect. Simple as that.
The methods of doing that is similar to those of flashing Sprint phone to boost mobile. But I think it's illegal and can't be discused in xda as it requires modifing imei/esn.

no, it has nothing to do with that.
verizon keeps a list of all the allowed ESN/IMEI numbers and will not let a number on their network that is not in their list.
I think he meant modifying the esn to match one in their database, which would be illegal. This thread should be closed.
I've seen some photos and heard some rumors that Verison will be carrying an official branded Nexus7 (boy, do I mean branded) sometime this year. Hopefully the 5 will follow

[solved] how to tell which anti-rollback version I have?

Hi all!
So I've been tempted to downgrade to MM to try out the dirtysanta ADB root. I heard there are some issues with internal and external storage, but I figured I'd at least give it a shot.
To get the anti-rollback version, I tried calling the number everyone has been throwing around (*#546368#*987#) but it doesn't seem to work (I have VS987 BTW). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Yeah, I hope they did too. I've been wanting a solution to this for some time.
The fact that this code doesn't work should indicate to you that it isn't version 0. I have the same phone, but it's junk. Bootloader is encrypted with 256bit or similar, meaning it's impossible to modify without the key. Verizon will never unlock it because then you wouldn't have to go through them for hotspot. Trash the phone and get one that actually has root. Sorry.

Sounds like something that should go under its own topic. I don't think trouble connecting to the mobile network has to do with the anti-rollback version.
