[solved] how to tell which anti-rollback version I have? - Verizon LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi all!
So I've been tempted to downgrade to MM to try out the dirtysanta ADB root. I heard there are some issues with internal and external storage, but I figured I'd at least give it a shot.
To get the anti-rollback version, I tried calling the number everyone has been throwing around (*#546368#*987#) but it doesn't seem to work (I have VS987 BTW). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Yeah, I hope they did too. I've been wanting a solution to this for some time.

The fact that this code doesn't work should indicate to you that it isn't version 0. I have the same phone, but it's junk. Bootloader is encrypted with 256bit or similar, meaning it's impossible to modify without the key. Verizon will never unlock it because then you wouldn't have to go through them for hotspot. Trash the phone and get one that actually has root. Sorry.

Ahh, alright. That's too bad. Well, thanks for letting me know. I ended up getting a Google Pixel 3 and handing my LG G5 down to someone else. Would've still been nice though.
I will now mark this question as solved. :good:

No service
My verizone g5 can't seem to connect to my mobile network. So frustrating and I can't find a fix

Sounds like something that should go under its own topic. I don't think trouble connecting to the mobile network has to do with the anti-rollback version.

Sprint to Verizon on my GS3

Work is switching providers so I will be returning my 710 GS3 for the Verizon model. Anything crazy I should know about? Seems rooting and unlocking are the first difference. Anything else that screams out? I will obviously be reading and searching a bunch this weekend but just wanted to catch any head-ups if anyone had any.
Kind of sucks as I have been modding and getting o familiar with the SPRINT model. Now I have to start over in a sense. Oh well.
Thanks,

Well you will be getting faster LTE if you have it in your area. You can use the Casual tool to root if you got a Mac or Linux Pc. Also check my signature for a indepth guide.
Sounds good. Thanks for the help.
Unlocking and IMIE issues were not a problem with the Sprint varient. Are either of these things something I should be concerned with? We have stable unlock and root on the Verizon GS3 now correct?

NO matter what your flashing there is always a chance of IMEI loss. So i highly recommend backing your's up/ A bunch of guides in the development sub forum.

There is always a chance to lose your IMIE no matter what but we now have free apps from the play store to make it possible to one click unlock and flash a recovery. Its almost idiot proof on how easy these awesome devs over here have made it.

Casual also works with Windows 7 as long as you have Java installed on PC.

Any hope for TWRP on the SM-930T?

Was curious if people thought this T-Mobile S7 would ever be able to run TWRP (looking to run Lineage).
I just bought this phone, and didn't realize the T-Mobile variant wouldn't work...
Should I wait a while, or go ahead and sell it? Wondering if there's any hope for this...
Thanks for any help.

Unless the bootloader ever gets unlocked there's no chance of getting TWRP or lineage. I wouldn't be overly optimistic of this ever happening.
yeah i figured, thanks for responding though. i already sold the phone (930T) and bought a 930F, which aside from "partial" 3G should be fully compatible with T-mobile (who needs 3G anyways these days?)

Cause people with a ton of money want to dictate to us in the US how we should use our phones.

Sprint - Anyone regret unlocking the bootloader

So I just picked up a refurbished Sprint v20. It is currently at zv3 so i'll be able to use Dirty Santa. My issue is do I? I know there's no going back since there isnt a factory image for Sprint.
If you've unlocked, are you happy you did so?
Very happy. but im biased since i made it...
Well, I didn't need much convincing. Thanks! Very smooth process, it's really nice to actually have TWRP on a lg phone again. Haven't had that since my LG G2.
yea it was a no brainer for me coming from a sgs7e , i hated the fact i could not do nanddroids or flash custom roms, i love my v20.
Bootloader possibly unlocked
So I just called Sprint and reemed them on how there bootloader practices are illegal and that this is an open source phone. Not an Iphone. My device is paid off ect. They supposedly are fully unlocking it as we speak. In the mid of a six hour phase I guess. I was told not to reboot during six hours. On ZVD firmware btw. If this does happen to get fully unlocked including bootloader ect., can I finally root my phone? I really hope so. I am running out of options.

I wouldn't hold my breath, at most they may unlock the sim, the bootloader I doubt it

Well at around 4/5pm est. I am going to check. When I reboot it should tell me if unlocked right? If its not, then I will call again. I specifically told them bootloader and reasked. She said yes and that I will able to do whatever I want to with it. My network was already unlocked as well before I even called.

Sadly I did not notice any difference. I got an Android update message a few times. That happens daily though. I will call them tomorrow. Had a few unforseen events happen that strained original plans. Either way this is bull****. They should not be allowed to lock an open source down. I am trying to get this taken care of. Hard fighting corruption.

Open source doesn't mean you have to have an unlocked bootloader. Open source just means you must be provided with a copy of the source code of the open source components (some parts are closed source), which LG has complied by allowing anyone access through this site.
Personally I'd be surprised if it's even technically feasible for them to unlock your bootloader.

Ok...well anyway not being able to root is still garbage. Especially on a device that is paid off. I only pay for service.
Love also how - the variant is rootable and this one is not game. So should I be mad a Sprint or LG? Whos fault is it?Rooting is perfectly legal. Seems blocking it is just as legal in this case.

You can blame Sprint, and Instead of spending so much time being angry and posting your frustration on here, why not just get another phone that you can root?

Because this has the flagships that I want. Except root. Cant even find a rootable one to buy unless I get a non sprint phone. I am also not posting out of anger, but for irritation of companies thinking that thay can do what ever and we have to take it.
Was wondering tho, if I am network unlocked, cant I take to a different carrier and their firmware would replace Sprints ZVD one (cdma I know) , and then be able to root via that phone/firmware method?

If it wasn't for antirollback (all other firmware, except the h918 which has a different key so no other variant can flash it, is antirollback 0) you could, but the way it is you'd brick if you forced it on there.
Ok then. Well thank you for info everyone. Im just going to be a lump on a log for awhile.

You should have gotten the Essential phone on one of their many deals ($140 with Sprint)($225 on Amazon)
Its really the only phone I found that replaced my AT&T v20 and I'm enjoying Android Pie allot (we got the Sept security update yesterday)
There is a way to go back, I made a thread detailing the method to restore with a stock aboot image.

It does not have the dual cam, and removable battery like the v20. I have my reasons. Believe me . Only issue is Sprint not being able to root...supposedly. Pro_Granade kinda has my hopes up atm lol

Funky Huawei seems to be the only place left. But it's 99$!
Everyone waited to long and the ability to get codes is fading.
evaporated in fact. Ouch!
What happened to all those unlocking services? Suddenly they can't produce the unlock codes now? Very curious on how things unfolded...

I'm a little curious. But more sad actually. All I want it to be able to use a launcher on my phone. I don't want the walled garden thing.
I suspect this is my last Huawei.
C'mon one plus, get to the next level by the next phone.

Hi hoangtu, that's great!!!
Can I ask a few questions. What firmware are you on?
Do you have the same model as me. The evr-al00? Chinese variety? Or the global version? I suspect the global, right? In which case. Lucky you. I couldn't really grab the global as I'm in mainland China.
If you have the Chinese model, did you unlock your phone with a code? Where did you get this code from, I'd like to get my phone unlocked too.
If not unlocked, was it simply a matter of removing the Huawei launcher? I'm a little apprehensive to do this... Can't seem to get adb to respond. I think it's because my bootloader is locked.
Any assistance you can offer would be great. I feel like I'm running around in circles chasing at my tail at the moment.
I have a small window of opportunity (about a week) before I get Ultra busy at work. I would love to get this sorted ASAP.
Edit: I wonder if CNY and the fact that China closes during this period has anything to do with no codes bring issued.
Thanks.

Nevermind, I made an error. Used a laptop that seems to have some permission problems.
Ended up using my Mac.
I now have what I need.
Sincere apologies for hijacking this thread. I now have Nova correctly installed. OMG.

The last time an Oppo phone was rootable was the find 7 which was a oneplus one twin. I don't think BBK Electronics has changed their strategy unless you know or heard something different?
This is such a shame as I really like the phone from the reviews. I don't think I would ever pick up a phone that I can't root.

Amen. I could currently get it for an effective €600 (which would be crazy value) but no root, no bootloader unlock for custom-roms? WTF
This bloke on youtube thinks he has it rooted.. maybe fake though..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVKKnKZObJg
The fact that the video says that you cannot update Magisk as the bootloader is still locked makes me think it might be legit..
Considering it is all done within the Android OS it is probably safe to try.. you might just have to factory reset if it causes issues.
Another option?
https://legitroot.com/how-to-root-oppo-find-x2-pro/
i am the same.. i really like the phone though Root is essential.
