Otterbox Defender vs Samsung Rugged case. which is better? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Accessories

So yea, I got both cases. I just had the Caseology Legion case and Samsung Rugged case to start but I decided to get the Defender right after I got my phone because while the rugged case feels good it just didn't feel like it would have good drop protection due to the sides of the case being pretty low and the lip not as pronounced as the Defender.
The reviews on Amazon for the Note 8 rugged case had some bad reviews about screens shattering from falls.
Which would you trust for protection more? The Defender to me feels a lot more protective.

The defender is definitely a bit more protective but you're still going to run into problems if the phone happens to land on the exposed edges of the infinity display. A tempered glass will help of course but the curved screen is inherently more vulnerable than a flat one and that's just how it is.

The otterbox is great, but it is way too thicker to me.
I don't use the belt clip.
I got one free from a company, satisfied.
www.ArmadilloTek.com

I will add holding the Defender makes it easier to grip the phone and type faster too. Being used to that case for years and trying the Samsung case which is thin felt really awkward to type with.

I agree. Now if the Note 9 was designed like the Note 5 and earlier that was wider this wouldn't be an issue with the rugged case but these narrow phones I need a thick case like the Defender, or Monarch. The ArmadilloTek case is thinner bit still makes it fairly easy to use the phone.

I considered the defender but opted out, seemed to bulky for me. Coming from the spigen thin fit I new I needed a bit mode protection and found it with the commuter. Otterbox nailed it with this one. Feel is excellent.

I appreciate Samsung making the N9 display just a tiny bit wider than the N8 but still, I'd prefer the dimensions of the N5 or just something more wider than what we have now.

Rugged Case for Galaxy Note 4

I have the Galaxy Note 4, I love outdoor activities and I bring the Galaxy Note 4 with me always, I have the Rugged Case for Galaxy Note 4, i-Blason Armorbox Dual Layer Hybrid Full-body Protective Case to protect my phone from bumps and other accidental drop when I do some activities, and it serves me well, I wonder if what are other alternatives for it, I would love to have one but reluctant to buy other brands, any recommendation based on your personal experience?
Here is the one that I bought
, i-Blason Armorbox Dual Layer Hybrid Full-body Protective Case
Can anyone suggest me another one?
Otterbox Defender...THE last case your Note4 will ever be in.

+1 for the Otterbox Defender, the commuter is also a perfect case for the Note 4.

I dunno where you got that info from. I've had the defender on mine since day one and no problems with it at all.
I don't know how you guys can put such an ugly bulky case on something so beautiful. Trust me, I'm all about protection, I've never cracked a phone before (*knock on wood*) but I feel like putting something like this iBlason case or the traditional OtterBox just covers up the true beauty of the phone. I usually go with a Spigen case (good protection, yet not as bulky). This time around I'm going for the Ringke Slim case with a wrist strap.

I understand where you're coming from and I too find the Ringke slim case exceptional in terms of looks and minor protection. But after using it for a whole month, I finally caved in and ordered an Otterbox Defender. I just don't want to be afraid of damaging my phone. Being able to use it with an extra peace of mind is worth sacrificing the appearance in my opinion. After all, you can always take it out of the case and it'll still be the beautiful, slim phone you purchased. But each to their own, I can only speak for myself.

Is Tech Armor for rugged case a good buy?
I have the UAG and the Otterbox Defender for mine. I used a UAG on my Note 2 for 2 years and was completely satisfied and feel that it is a solid case. However, I like the amount of protection the Otterbox Defender gives and I also like the way it adds some bulk to the phone. It seems easier to hold.
That being said, it does not fit well in my pocket and I've actually started using a belt clip (included with the case) for the first time. The belt clip also doubles as a stand for your phone when you are charging it.

[Q] are Spigen cases and SPs good?+ user experiance please read!

Hi, I have a very limited choice and they are:
Spigen Case Capsule
Spigen Case Tough Armor
Spigen Ultra Hybrid Case
Spigen Slim Armor Case (*)
Spigen Neo Hybrid Case
Spigen Thin Fit Case
SP:
Spigen Ultra Crystal Screen Guard
Spigen Crystal Hard Surface Screen Guard
Here are my questions:
I'm not buying these for protection at all, the reason i want to buy a case is i prefer to have a case when im outside (for some weird reasons i feel more comfortable with one outside )
and the reason i need screen protector is because my hands have so much friction to the screen! and btw the spigen kickstand sounds useful to me!
do you have any of these? do you like it?! (im basically asking for user experience)
Q1) Are any of those cases easy to take off? i plan to take it off once i arrive home! i don't want to scratch the metal of my note 4 and spend some time smashing it to take it off (and which of those are easy to take off?)
Q2) do the screen protectors help the friction? and do they bother the s-pen? i tried it on a note 2 with a random screen protector and it feels awful to work with, but those might be different!
I would go with the Neo Hybrid out your list. To me, it is the best looking case in you list. I've tried most of them. I don't think any of them are hard to take off.
The spigen crystal screen guards are good. I wouldnt say they would reduce friction, but they wont add to it. Spen is unchanged in funtionality.
The glass protector will produce a halo.

actually from my usage i found even gorilla glass 2 to be scratch-proof for me so the only reason i want screen-protector is friction, i can't play nova (my hands stick to screen) lol
but thanks for answer! don't they scratch the metal part of the Screen?!

None of the cases scratch the metal. particles between the case and metal scratch the metal.
I have the Spigen Tough Armor.
Nice case, feels good in the pocket. Good protection, rubber corners and such. The buttons are a little hard to identify by feel alone, that's one complaint.
Second complaint is the kickstand - Not so great. It clicks into place and it's HARD to get it out with just your fingernail. Then once you get it out, it flops around so you have to kind of hold it in place while you prop up the phone... and any bump will flip it back closed and cause your phone to fall.

thanks for you answer sounds like i better choose the neo(althought the Tough Armor's rear guard sounds god! and i might give the screen protector a try! i guess they don't change screen quality either!
How does the Tough Armor compare against the Slim Armor?
I'm gonna be getting a Galaxy Note 4 soon and I'm looking into getting a either a Spigen Tough Armor or Slim Armor case.
Spigen Neo Hybrid
I have a Spigen Neo Hybrid for my Note 4 and honestly, I am kind of disappointed. I had it for my Samsung S4 and Note 3 and absolutely love the case for those phones. Never had a problem.
Even though the it fits perfectly for the Note 4, the trim is beginning to have the paint fade and chip away (never had this problem with the S4 or Note 3).
Also, regarding the Spigen Neo Hybrid, it is cut so specifically that some aftermarket micro USB or headphone jacks might not fit.

I have a Spigen Case Capsule and it is not good, the sides are too sharp. The overall feel of it is not good so I would steer clear.
Also with or without a case on the phone you can use the S pen as a kick stand.

yeah i tried the s-pen trick but it didn't work for me still im not gonna do that because i might damage my s-pen, specially that there are no replacements here i heard some bad about case capsule somewhere else too saying that its too sharp. but sounds like the other ones are not bad! anyway i was just going to order today
edit: after a bit of using my screen protector no longer has friction! It has so much reflection but anyway i changed my mind now its smooth and good! It just needed to be used a little!

I HAVE BOTH. Tough Armor is a little thinker than the Slim Armor. They both protect very well. and the thickness is not noticeable. But if you the type that is a stickler for the slim of the phone, go with the slim armor.

Ok my order arrived today, Let me start with case: its bulky but awesome i love it! buttons are not that terrible but not great, doesn't bother me really, its weird but it makes heart rate sensor easier to use i love it in total, worth the money
(and as you said the kickstand isn't great, but it doesn't really matter much to me)
i also ordered a xionami mi power bank its awesome but super-heavy, anyway
the screen protector is awful, just terrible, i mean, it made me cry to install, after an hour i installed it (a bit miss aligned ) and it not only makes screen look awful, but also gives it even more friction! the only reason i didn't take it right of is money :S i will let it be there for a little bit just for test! and give the other one to a friend or something ! (and i regret applying the wet cloth to screen, realized it was alcohol soaked cloth and it probably damaged my screen s-pen feels aweful to use! its not accuracy but how it feels! i felt that it's damaging my nib so put the old already used nib i had! this was my first and last screen protector
I have the Spigen Tough Armor in gunmetal blue. It does a great job and it is a little bit slimmer than my Otterbox Defender, which I mainly use when I'm at work. Otherwise I use the Spigen when I'm at home or everywhere else but work when I want something less bulky at times.
Also you can't beat the kickstand that comes on the back of the tough armor.

Poll - Do you use a case on your Galaxy S6?

I bought a case but I don't like the appearance and feel of it so I took it off. If I pay 700$ for a nice looking phone I don't want to put it into an ugly case. Especially when it has Gorilla Glass 4 on front and back.
What do you guys think?
MKBHD has a nice video about phone cases here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btr8uOU0BkI
I hate it too. But i dropped my phone like 2 times average for every phone i owned. So... yeah... i feel safe to "naked" only when i am home
Probaby anyone can suggest a good looking case?
Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Yeah I always run cases on my devices since I like to keep them in prestine condition. I never drop my phones. If I do its maybe once a year lol but I still run one to be safe. I usually rock UAG because I can throw the phone around a little more than normal with those cases.
I didn't have a case on my Samsung Moment. I dropped it once and scratched up the side a bit. I put a skin on my HTC Evo Shift. Dropped it once and put a small dent in the plastic. When I got the S4, I decided I should protect it since it was more than I had ever paid for a phone, so I put a case on it. History suggested that I didn't particularly need it, but I'd rather have it and not need it than not have it when I need it. I can't replace my phone if I break it. I also went UAG on my S4 and loved it. I actually did drop the phone many times, but I might have also been less careful since I knew it had a case on it. With the S6, I wanted something maybe even slimmer than the UAG and that maybe could show off the good looks of my phone, so I went with a Spigen Ultra Hybrid.
I got a case that I love from spigen. It's not bulky, it's clear and it protects it from drop. It has that tech 21 rubbery feel.

I always rock cases on my phones. The S6 being glass on the front and back is definitely rocking one. Gorilla glass or not, it's still glass. I use the spigen neo hybrid. It looks classy and provides an adequate amount of protection for very little bulk added.

This is the case I use and it's very bulky and I don't like fake aluminium plastic. And not to mention the 1-2 mm raised lip front. Please dont say plastic looks classy.
I have always used cases to be on the safe side even though I have only dropped my phone once or twice at the most over the years, I will be using a case on my s6 when it arrives but as yet I'm undecided as to which case to get, I've considered the spiden neo hybrid but I have heard that it can reduce signal strength which I don't like the sound of, so I'm still looking for the right one
If you think this case is bulky, I'd hate to see what you'd say about a Otterbox Commuter or Defender series. That 1-2mm lip serves a purpose as drop protection. I don't consider slapping on a thin plastic low profile case as anything but scratch protection. If I'm going to put a case in a phone, it's primarily for drop protection. That being said, I do have the black version so it doesn't look like "cheap plastic aluminum"
I'm going to buy a simple TPU case, like the spigen liquid crystal

I bought the same case. It makes the phone less slippery wich is good. It also makes it slightly bulkier wich is bad. But it does feel protected.
Do you use that horrible back protector? I'm thinking of trying the case without it, hopefully it won't get scratched.
LOL the poll is so loaded. I have a case but I dont drop my phone. I just like keeping it in pristine condition. Having a case doesn't necessarily mean you are careless....
This is the case i use on mine. Its practically not even there, but offers some protection.

I have that Spigen crystal clear cover and stopped using it after a day. It always looks dirty and ugly, it irritates me too much. I'll keep it for travelling when needed.
Agree with MKBHD's comments in that video posted earlier, I don't like cases generally and may end up getting a skin to stop this being so slippery like he did with his M8
I use the exact case when I use a case.

Bulky AF but will protect the phone.
I have an iPhone 5S for work and it slipped out of my pocket and dropped from 2 feet high onto a concrete floor right on its top right corner. Screen turned into a spider web. I have a feeling same thing would happen to the S6. Better safe than sorry!

My 2 cents. Buy a cheap TPU case to use when you first get your phone. First, it takes time for your hands to get used to the shape of a new phone and your risk of dropping the phone is greatest during this period. Second, you will be playing with your new phone more often than you would normally, and increasing the risk of a drop. Third, your anxiety levels when going naked with your brand new and very expensive phone will counterbalance the enjoyment of having a naked phone.
After about a month, get rid of the cheap case and enjoy the phone naked, knowing that if you scratch it or drop it, you now have a reason to buy the next phone on the horizon....
I use the Spigen slim hard case (back cover) but now I cant get the damn thing off the phone. I feel like I'm going to break the phone removing it

Spigen Rugged Armor Mi A2 Case

Hey folks;
Just got a Spigen Rugged Armor delivered from Amazon (http://a.co/8BgQCag ) for the Mi A2 and I have to say, I really like it. I go through a lot of cases for my phones and it's not often I pop one on and really like it right away (I have this same case for my Pixel 2 XL and I like the version they made for the Mi A2 better).
Paid for this out of my own pocket in case anyone was wondering lol.
What I like:
- feels premium and nice in the hand. Has a nice matte feeling.
- does not make the phone feel thick or heavy.
- a good lip around the front screen. My screen is bare, but should accommodate a glass screen protector IMO. See my picture below for the lip.
- good lip around the camera
- easy to access the fingerprint sensor
- lots of room around the ports
- buttons are very clicky and feel great to use! I hate cases that make the buttons feel mushy or hard to press, and this case has a very satisfying firm feeling when pushing the buttons.
Potential Con:
- not the grippiest case. It is not slippery but the case is smooth all around and some people will want something grippier. I have had cases that I refuse to use because of the lack of grip and I don't have a concern here, but I'm just being picky. Case feels great to me.
- matte-textured cases might not be for everyone, as they can show some scratches and scuffs over time.
See pics below. Light was not great but I tried to use the reflections to highlight parts of the case people will want to see. The Mi A2 won't be my daily driver so I won't be able to speak to the case's ability to stand up to scuffs anytime soon.
I'm thinking about buying it too. Since there's not so much good cases for A2.
How's the case protect the camera? Does the case make the phone not bumpy anymore when you put it down? Thanks!

Lots of protection around the camera. I think one of the pics shows the lip. The lip around the camera does protrude further than the rest of the back of the case if you look at it horizontally, so it still rocks a little when laid down (but not as much as when its naked).
Hope that helps!

No idea. I don't use one.
Just got 2 cases from Amazon for my A2. I like them, they are both matte type. As mentioned though, they look nice initially, but I'm afraid the scuffs will detract from that in a bit.
And you can't really clean them I don't think. If you rub too hard or long it seems to remove the matte coating and makes it shiny. We'll see how it goes.
These are the 2 at Amazon:

I have bought Spigen Rugged, it does its work and really protective
I have this case as well and it is fantastic. Good build quality and protects the most important parts of the phone. Also the price is spot on, not too expensive consider how good it is.
I have also this case and I think its the best one for this phone (for now)
I have this case too and it's really good.
The only little flaw is its slight curve in the volume keys zone.
I don't know if it's a general "issue" or not.

This Spigen Rugged Armor case is actually bad. The case is very slippery and makes you prone to dropping your phone, I would not recommend this case to anyone!
The PZOZ Shockproof case is a far superior option.

Thats not true.
Just bought the mentioned case 3 days ago for my Mi A2. My phone now felt grippy to be held by either hand. Yes, the soft touch at the back surface is really prone to scratch. It is not encouraged to put in the pants pocket with keys.

i have been using this case for like almost a year & have tried almost all the Armour like cases on amazon the best one is this really loved it.......no regrets whatsoever.

Help me decide which case to use!

So I got 3 cases for the Note 9. Defender, Samsung rugged case, and Caseology Legion.
I'm torn between the Defender and Samsung case.
Which case do you think is better protection wise? Do you think the rugged case offers good drop protection even though it's thin? I do like the kickstand on it though.
Which would you choose? Defender or Samsung Rugged case?
I'm using the Samsung case. I need the kickstand, it's light and provided the 360 protection.
I'm currently rocking the Caseology Legion, and I'm loving it. I usually switch back and forth Spigen/Caseology when it comes to cases because they've provided enough protection to my phones. Legion provides plenty of protection if you don't want a bulky rugged case, does add a bit of bulk but not the kind you'd get from an Otter defender imo (which I've tried). So out of those 3 I'd definitely stick with the Legion, the rugged Samsung is too bulky and ugly imo.
samsung rugged case. it's not really that thin. it is very well designed. pretty light, too. you won't find a better fitting rugged case for this phone. kickstand is so useful.

You consider it a heavy duty case?

Yep! I usually prefer really thin cases but I feel that this case is the best balance between style, size and protection. May not meet OtterBox standards but also doesn't make your phone a brick
Spigen Tough armor has always been my go to case. Been using them ever since the Nexus 6p. I love my blue case with kickstand to go with my copper color exynos note.
