Hey guys.
I was browsing the web using Chrome on my Galaxy S6, until it suddenly completely froze, a few seconds later white LED went on while the display was on on the frozen, halfway loaded Chrome page. I did soft reset (volume down + power button), the screen went black with only the white LED being on. Upon retrying sometimes it would display the Samsung logo (static, not animating and not progressing) and would be stuck there. I allowed the battery to die, plugged it in and I had a fully functional charging animation. After it reached 20% I tried to turn it on but now nothing is happening at all - just black screen, LED is off no matter what. I tried power + volume up + menu and nothing is happening, just black screen. Charging does nothing now, and when I plug it into my PC the PC does nothing (as if nothing was connected, not even unknown device).
Is there anything at all that I can do? What could this be?
Additional info:
It's the international version, running it's official software, I never tinkered with it in any way. I have no idea what is the bootloader status but it was not altered from factory (it came from Orange Europe).
I replaced the battery last year at an official Samsung service center and never had any prior problems.
I would really appreciate your help, guys, as I have no idea whether the phone's time has come and there's nothing I can do (and should go and purchase an S7 or something), or if there's anything that I can still try, or maybe it's some trivial problem?

Try disconnection and re connecting the battery. It may be a hard job but that's the only thing I can think off. If that doesn't you may have to replace the logic board

Thank you. Since I'm not savvy enough in regards to opening it up and re-sealing (and don't have any of the necessary tools), I guess I'd have to do that at a service centre, and considering it might not even fix a thing, do you think it's worth risking and spending money on? My alternative is getting a used S7 for $220, and any cash I pour into fixing this one could go into the other phone instead.

Nope, get the S7. Samsung quoted way too much to fix my S6 as it needed a new logic board. They said it you may as well buy a new phone

Even if you wanted to repair the s6 it would be too much work and you could risk breaking something else. I saw a guide on YouTube and you have to remove the screen assembly to get to the logic board. Older galaxy devices aren't like that and are much easier to repair

my phone is not rooted at all, i've just been using launcher pro.
Thing is, few months ago, the emmc chip thing has already happened to me.
While updating in the market, it hanged, i pulled the battery, and it died.
I sent it to HTC to repair and got it back. Phone has been smooth since then.
But few days ago I clicked update all, and it hanged again. Was stuck at the htc white screen for a while, but after constant on and off, i was sooo jubilant when the launcher pro loaded. So no problem after that.
but just now, i was just downloading one or two apps in the market, and it hanged again. I tried to turn it off and on, and so far it hasnt responded well..
it stops at HTC- quietly brilliant, the music rings, and nothing else happens.
(I am guessing this is a good sign? when my emmc chip fried, the music never played)
can anyone help me now though? i don't know what to do except hold both volume buttons and shutting down and restarting again.
i might have to pull out the battery at some point and restart.
i love the phone, but this really sucks big time.
Without intentionally meaning to offer any sympathy, am I right in thinking that after a battery pull killed your first device you then went on and pulled the thing again?
have you looked at this

i know pulling the battery kills it, but i couldnt really do anything else..
well now i'm screwed again.
the thing is pretty much dead, and only gives me the white htc screen.
seriously, htc? if i were rich or had another phone replacement i'd throw this phone out the window at this moment.
now i'm not even in the country where i bought my phone and have my warranty ughh.. is htc's warranty global, or am i screwed?

Not much help now, but should you give HTC one more chance, and it locks up again, you can force a reset without battery pull by holding down both volume keys and the power button.

Wait... you said in your first post that you got past the white screen with green "htc" on it (the splash image) and onto the bootanimation (where it says "quietly brilliant" and plays the music... is that correct?
If it is, its a good sign. It means your phone is getting to the ROM and attempting a bootup. I hope you havent pulled your battery meanwhile!!! This thing may still be salvageable.
Do let us know if you can still get to the bootanimation...
the first few times it did run to the part where "quietly brilliant" came up with the music, but after that it never loaded, so i kept soft resetting many times but it would never load. Then it stopped loading pass the white HTC screen. When i soft reset, the phone blackouts for a few secs and that white screen pops up again. So there wasn't even a chance to do (volume down + power) to do a factory reset. I had to pull the battery.
Today I took it to the service center, since this is not the country where I bought my phone, it wasn't under warranty, and I will have to pay around $30 USD. it will be back by next tuesday though.
but seriously, how is this the fault of the consumer? I have not rooted or s-off my phone. It hanged while doing an ordinary phone function - downloading from the market. How is an average consumer supposed to know that he shouldn't be pulling out the battery? and he should need to know how to do all the technical recovery things himself?
f htc.. this is the last htc product i will be using in a few years.
second time it happened to this phone too, and like i said, it happened last week too, though i was able to reboot it after maybe 30 minutes.
the only one good thing is at least they gave me a temporary phone (wildfire) to use while my desire s is being fixed.
Same problem here with me, while trying to open htc likes, it hang and no response from power bottom, i waited for 2 min, still no response, so i pull out the battery, and re install and try to open my htc desire s, its doesnt power up, no response, it does not open even the white screen of htc, no vibration, its like an dead now, try to go to recovery mode, my clicking vol down+ power key. still there is no responce, i dont know what to do, as there is no htc sercive center in my country. guys please help me if there is any other way to make it alive, i ma really worried that its hardware problem or software problem, as i havent drop it or it has in contact with water, just it hang up and i pull the battery and reinstall. please guys help me
weird issue in that for the past two days the phone will not power on. I can hit the power button which "does not appear to be stuck" and it will briefly turn on getting to 1st splash screen before going black and not coming back on. Can't get into anything. While ago messing with it I had it fully boot but when the screen timed out I hit the power button any it wasn't on anymore. I even got it to turn on for the drive home for about an hr and was able to listen to pandora. I have unlimited data so I didn't want to get a new phone. So I looked online and saw someone had a brand new s4 for 320.00 bucks.. which I think I can keep my data if I buy a phone elsewhere correct? I also looked at replacing the motherboard for my s3 which was 90 bucks. Need some assistance either making my s3 work or ideas of what phone to get under 300.00
also.. When I plug it in while it is off it doesn't appear to be charging.. Maybe it is the battery? Maybe it is the charging port?
I think you should try another battery first. However, I do have some questions. Is you charging port loose on your phone? Is your phone still under warranty through your carrier? I recently had issues with my S3 draining really bad. I'd plug it into the charger and it would definitely act like it was charging up but in all reality the battery was draining like a sieve. I called Verizon Wireless and ended up getting a new phone as a warranty replacement. It's working fine now. *knock on wood*

the light doesn't come on when charging like before. the port is not loose. I took the phone apart to see if there was something damaged or loose inside and everything seemed fine. I doubt the phone is under warranty. I just purchased a new battery for 16 bucks.. hope it works. I will update this thread on thursday once I get the battery in.
Sounds similar to what I ran into with my charging port going bad, currently it will only work with the stock charging cable but I have purchased a wireless charging battery cover and use that for 90% of my charging.

If you are gonna get an S4, make absolutely SURE it is an MDK build!! Anything after that has a locked bootloader! Ah hem...mine is MDK and comes with a mophie case...and glass screen protector... just saying.
the battery didn't fix the problem. I guess I will have to replace the motherboard. I bought the s4 today for 275. but as caleb stated it is locked.. oh well.. I think I can still root it. I am hoping I can replace the board no problems and atleast sell this thing for 175. Anyone have much luck with these boards? http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Samsung...05&prg=10335&rk=1&rkt=6&sd=271467013367&rt=nc
I am googling this problem for a friend with a stock verizon S3 - there are TONS of people who can't charge once they're on KitKat. Is that the case with you? It seems to be a software, not hardware, issue.
From the sounds of things, don't expect a new board to fix it.
Nope. I never updated.
Also, the charging part is not the only problem. I had a full battery but couldn't get the phone to stay on. Eventually I couldn't even turn it on at all. Just died.
So had this phone for a while now and no problems, been running nougat for the past few months, this morning took my phone off charge and placed in pocket. A bit later I checked my phone, it was not responsive a black screen, did a hard reset does the samsung logo then gets stuck either flashing blue or pink. So leave it until I get home, flash latest nougat with odin installs fine, reboots and does same thing freezes at boot samsung flashing blue. Flash it again and now its froze after its said erasing...
I think something has failed hardware wise, any others had this issue?.

Just install "CPU awake" from play store, this will help you keep the device working, this problem is very common in each & every Samsung flagship, starts after 2 year use(won't ever buy a Samsung flagship again), no fix for it, if you don't believe me, check Evey flagship forum q/a section.

That's a nand problem, if the device is cooled (I hold mine in front of AC for 5min.), that will help it to turn on & once it's on, install the app & it will work fine but it shouldn't be allowed to shutdown or it has to be cooled down again, it's not a new problem, thousands of Samsung mobiles which ship with faulty nand face the exact same problem, I know it sounds silly, it is what it is & it works(for thousands users)

Rishi is correct about cpu awake on the Note 4. It is commonly viewed as a means of extending the life of the Note 4 but eventually the phone will fail.

Hi I have just bought an s7 which turned out to be a Korean G930L but I cant get any response out if it apart from the 2 bottom leds and and the blue one. No response from trying to get into recovery or download mode, basically a black screen though it does vibrate on what i think is start up. It is found by pc and Odin and charges ok, I can tell as I can see properties on pc. But no other response. Is it possible that the previous owner tried to root it using non korean rom or TWRP? Any advice on how to fix either getting TWRP on or screen to light up. I am sorry for being so vague I have pulled it apart and checked all of the connections, screen, motherboard etc but nothing. Odin sees the phone but I am not sure if I am in Download mode so wont flash, as cant see screen.
Or chuck it out or put back on eBay.

Your phone's display screen has a problem , sadly you have to replace the display screen. Go to the nearest samsung service center.
Thanks it isnt worth it I will just sell it on ebay. I have been able to get to some of the screens [though still black] as it talks to me in Korean and the screen is giving haptic feedback so aspects of it are alive still. I am wondering now if someone has tried to ROOT it and semi bricked it or turned off the display internally. The other night night no matter what I pushed it vibrated and answered me with the same korean statement. I am trying to get into Recovery Mode without a screen and flash it without a screen but proving frustrating, maybe samsung dealer can reflash it with needing a screen.

It's not a software issue, there must be water damage or display is broken/went off for some other reason.
I had this same issue with my note 5, I was able to hear everything, touch key and notification lights were on too, that time my note 5 was accidentally dropped by me. So 99% your display is broken. Simply go to service center and get a quote, but display will cost same as used s7. Try to get after market screen.
ok thanks for the advice, i will head to them after the xmas break
To give some context, my S10e (Verizon SM-G970U) decided to boot loop out of nowhere. Since this happened, I have factory reset the phone, no success. I brought it to a local repair shop who said they couldn't fix it. Now I have flashed the phone with Odin and despite the phone being flashed it STILL is boot looping. At this point, I'm assuming something went wrong with the hardware but I don't even know where to start with that. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.

If it is a hardware issue (which sounds likely), there's an old electronics trick you might try: Power it off, put it in the refridgerator awhile, take it back out and power it on. This has work'd for me with stereo components, for example, as well as a phone. It once revived a hard disk drive long enough for me to capture important data. Oh, but the phone this has brought back for me, an S10e BTW, works only while still cold and has issues with charging while its temperature is low. Still may be worth a try.

Any idea of what this could mean for the actual hardware? I.e. this means the battery needs to be replaced etc

Great; glad it work'd. Did you attempt to charge it while it was working? Mine actually took charging after warming up only a short time, once. Got it back all the way to 100% charged. But then it quit with dead black screen, and now revives only for a minute or two.
In the old days of individual transistors, we used to turn on a non-working electronic device and blast a shot of freeze spray on various components until the device started working; even with IC (integrated circuit) chips that have lots of transistors. This way, we knew which part needed replacement. But with today's phones, you replace the entire circuit board because the soldering is done by machines; it's too finely detail'd to replace one chip.

I haven't tried charging the phone when it's on. Only when it's off and has returned to room temperature. Seems to me that about an hour in the fridge equals about 5 minutes of screen on time until the phone heats up again.
As for the internal component's you bring up a good point. Even if I were to determine what is causing the issue, I don't have the will/technical know how to buy the parts and do it myself. Outside of just replacing everything, in which I'd just buy a new phone haha.
