HI. Yes it is better than op5 (alot)
No. Not better than s9.
S9 is more forgiving, more of a point and shoot camera. Op6 is excellent in manual mode for the most. In low light s9 is unfortunately way better. I would go p20 pro tho rather than s9 if you can live without root.

about honor 8 camera

Will i get the most out of its camera in comparison with other phones priced at the same level ?
If you have shaky hands, and you want great quality video and 4k, I definitely recommend getting Oneplus 3. Without ois, you can barely have clear pictures at night, but with Oneplus 3 you can get even with 1/2 shutter speed. In the Honor 8 the 1080p video looks like 720p, and the software stabilisation makes the quality even worse.

Why is the stock camera app so pathetic? ?

Wonder why can't OP or most manufacturers get the camera app right like Google does?
The stock camera on op6 is awful.
The camera has no wide angle and objects are too near than they actually are.
Normal or HDR is grainy work noise.
Pfa
Here's my picture. No edit, no nothing. I don't think that camera is pathetic..
Edit, forum seem to pixelate these over 7mb pics..
Let's see if this helps:
I didn't see the Panorama mode? Is OSS support this mode?
The OP6 is not known for his camera. Like every OP.
And in addition I agree that their stock camera app is far from the best seen on android.
Not that the needed options are not here. But this feels not ergonomic. Or maybe it's to early after having a new phone to say...

Which OSS version do you have ? In 5.1.7, Panorama mode is the last one on the bottom of the camera modes menu.

You can install many camera apps like Google. Search the Google Play store.
The stock camera on op6 is awful.
It's actually very good. Not GS9 good but close.
The camera has no wide angle and objects are too near than they actually are.
This camera uses EIS to alleviate shaky hands and walking shakiness. Stop doing drugs
Normal or HDR is grainy work noise.
There is some noise in dark shots, but nowhere near the previous generation cameras.
It's a very good camera.
Buy a pixel then? I don't understand people. This camera is just as good in most situations as the pixel camera and when it's not, it's damn close. If people are going to complain it's not as good as a pixel camera and it's that important to you then damn, spend $300+ more and get a pixel.
I'm not trying to be snarky but what are you expecting on a phone that is $300-$400 less than another phone? There is a reason you bought a $500 phone and not a $800-$1000 phone

Why not get a baby camera then?
Galaxy S9 is fantastic. Huge aperture, huge pixel size - perfect for moving objects and low light shots.
S9 is like $700.
S9 is a beautiful phone. Wait till Samsung.com unleashes its sales. The first sale was -$150 off on ATT branded S9 about a month ago. The second sale was -$200 off on Verizon branded S9 two weeks ago.
I bought the ATT one for a friend, requested and got it sim unlocked in 3 days.
Good deal.

Impractical. I use my wife's S8 most of the time.

I wouldn't call it "pathetic". I compare my Note 8 to my OnePlus 6 and have to say:
• The OP6 focuses better in videos than the Note 8. Tested by driving on average roads. All cars, signs, etc. were perfectly focused whilst the Note 8 really struggled focusing one single thing. Autofocus can't be turned off it seems.
• The OP6 stabilizes images and videos better than the Note 8. Tested by driving on average roads. OIS and EIS on OP6 is great. The Note 8 found its limits where the OP6 succeeded.
• More natural colors on the OP6 compared to the Note 8.
• OP6 only needs half the power to keep the camera running. The Note 8 really got hot in some situations, where the OP6 stood cool. Also tested by driving on average roads.
Sure: I miss the real 2x zoom on my Note 8. Night shots are better on the Note 8 too and even with some issues, the Note 8 wins. But it's a damn close win, because it should only be a matter of time, until good developers will do a dailydriver Google Camera port for the OP6.
And even if OP6 has its flaws: I love it more than my Note 8. Why? Find out by yourself.

I think it's more about the camera app, than the camera itself. Samsung allows you to change the aspect ratio, resolution, framerate, storage location, different grid sizes, gestures, and a dozen different modes including pro mode.
Hm. Grid can be changed up to the Golden Ratio. Framerate is also changeable: 720p with 480FPS and 1080p with 240FPS. Gestures... dunno. Never needed on my Note 8. Aspect is also here. The only thing missing: Different sizes for the photos. I'd like to go back to 12MP, because of better photos (seen from the technical side).
Sooner or later we will have a fully working Google camera. At worst after pixel 3 launch, but it will surely happen.

OP6 has a pro-mode, I just point and clicking so I don't use it but it's there.
here's my gripes
> Panoramas aren't stabilized, so unless you are a machine while turning around being completely still it won't come out good
> Videos focus in and out so much when there are moving objects it makes it pointless
These two things bother me a lot
This best camera I used, after comparing to mi 8, Zenfone 5z, s8 and v30. V30 has the best manual mode. The 5z before latest update had terrible videos, I was I had purchased it to replace my v30 and pictures only came very clear during daytime.

Oneplus 6 cuurent development with GCAM

Hi all,
I bought OP6 few months ago and went back to pixel 2xl. I was gonna go for pixel 3 but not gonna do it because of alot of issues with the device. Anyway im thinking of buying a OP6 (no 6T ) but the only thing hold me back is the camera. So my question is how's the current development with GCAM + OP6? Is is working like on OP3 + Gcam? HDR working + greenish photo issues have been fixed? Highly appreciated your input
Don't know how it worked back with the OP3 but I come from a Moto G4 Plus and GCam was miles better than stock on that phone although it was very slow to take shots.
My experience with Gcam on my OP6 has been really good. I didn't start using Gcam until a couple of weeks ago but I'd say it's pretty solid when it comes to regular photos. Video doesn't work but the stock op app works fine for that. When I compare pictures between stock and gcam the gcam can be a bit too aggressive when it comes to background blurring and zooming in on text on a whiteboard is better on stock though nightcamera is miles better on gcam.
My point being that gcam isn't superior in every single way compared to stock. Don't know if it might be gcam not working the same as on pixel 3 or the stock just being superior in some scenarios.

Let me get this straight.
You bought OP6, then went back to Pixel 2 XL (because the camera wasn't good? Or is it something else) Then you wanted Pixel 3, but it had issues.
So you want OP6 with the power of a Pixel camera by using the Gcam mod apps?
Ok, I think I can advise on this particular scenario, since I have been testing it extensively.
1) When in good lighting conditions, the stock camera of OP6 is almost as good as cameras of other flagship phones (iPhone XS, Galaxy Note 9, Huawei Mate 20 Pro etc.) I have seen multiple reviews of this camera, and during daylight, it's excellent. My own shots with this camera were very good as well.
2) When in dim lighting conditions, the stock camera of OP6 uses an oversharpening algorithm that makes images look grainy/noisy and also makes images lose a lot of fine detail. Gcam does superior noise reduction, and preserves a lot of detail, but the images come out softer than other flagship phones' . I would definitely use Gcam for low light shots.
3) However, a lowly GS9 cam (which I have access to) is still superior to this OP6 camera, in both daylight and low light scenes. There's not a large but definitely noticeable difference in detail and focus at night, and a slight difference during the day.
Conclusion: The Gcam app will not change your camera experience, unless you take a lot of shots of dimly lit scenes. Using the Gcam app will significantly help you bridge the difference between the OP6 camera and other flagship cameras.

Lol. Yeah i went back because of the camera. Once you use a pixel it is hard to find a good camera phone. Yes. I dont wanna go for Pixel 3 due to remaining issues. Here is the thing, only thing i love about Pixel devices are Stock fluid system + superior camera. But i was a oneplus user few years back. Thanks for your long explaination. May i ask you how do i get GS9 cam apk? Only drawback of coming to OP was the camera. Im gonna give it a try

Sorry, but GS9 camera comparisons are from an actual GS9 phone, which my friend owns.
If your sole issue is camera performance, then don't go back to OP6. It's just not as good as flagship cameras.

totally agree. let's also say that other flagship could cost (in some cases) more than 2 OP6 put together.
comparisons are soooooooooo sweeeeeeet..
I spend most of my free time looking comparisons between phones but we gotta face the fact that there is a CONSISTENT price difference between a MATE 20 PRO or the lastest iPhone and an OP6 (or maybe two, lmao), and still I think that so much money won't giustify the quality difference.

Thank you both. The reason that pixel camera is great beacuse it is just point and shoot. 9 out of 10 it will produce blurr6 free perfect photo without any editing. Most of other cameras won't do that. To be honest im not a photographer or i dont take photos alot ( like used to be). So it is good that i can relay on a camera that will capture that moment without a fail. But if the GCAM port can catch up to that I'll ho back to Oneplus. I know that there is a huge price difference. Thanks though. Really appreciate your help

**Xiaomi Mi9 Camera**

Hi all!
Thanks for clicking on this thread!
my Question is simple and straightforward: if I buy the Mi9 will Gcam use all the 48Mp of the sensor or just 12mp? And if it will only use 12mp will this be because pixel-bining will still work\happen or just because Pixel phones(for which gcam was made) only have 12mp camera and that is the limit? So I will actually LOSE quality compared to Stock cam mi9? Mi8 only had 12mp sensor so I can't just look in that forum for answers. Sony Phones have more MP but they don't support gcam because of the api.
I have only tested Gcam on my MIX 2 and that phone is also only 12mp sensor.
I am pondering at the moment between getting mi9 or s10+.. but price of s10+ is a bit high and from the samples i saw already s10+ doesn't shoot better quality than my s9+ (with zeroprobe's camera mod) since it has the exact same sensors as s9+ only with the ultrawide one added. I have the feeling that mi9 with gcam has the potential to be better than s10 since my mix2 (which has a ****ty single camera) can rival the s9+ with the help of gcam.
Thank you in advance!

It can only read 12mp subsampling pixels (0.8micron). Not 12mp pixelbinning 1.6micron
It's so bad, when you zoom in 2x, it crop to 3mp effective resolution
I don't like this idea
S10+ has poor camera2api, you can't access wide and tele lens, no f2.4 option (f1.5 one is not so clear)

Note 20 Ultra Camera Quality

I have noticed that the autofocus and picture quality of the device is not better than my note 10 plus. The phone tends to blur the back and then blur what it is trying to focus on.
I did a picture comparison on my old phone and I say that the note 10 plus takes better photos.
Has anyone else experience this issue?
