Is there any rom that removes the notch? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

By removing it I mean bump the statusbar down below the notch and make it black above it. Not the bs that OnePlus did.

Your sacrificing a lot of screen space like that.

Why on earth would you do that? Then you're just wasting a part of the screen. If you don't mind the notch, keep it. If you do, use it as a black statusbar. What's the big deal..?

the best solution = Sell your op6 and buy a 5t

Upgrade to the 6T when available...

So I could see all statusbar icons like vpn, headphones and more. Also app notifications. Since this device uses an amoled display it would also save power.

Rumours say it will still have a notch. Even if it didn't have one I'm not gonna buy a new phone just 6 months after the previous one.

Nah it would be like 16:9 which I'm used to and it's not that much space. Bezelless phones have never been a big focus for me but the one sd845 phone that has no notch was the s9/plus which costs double.

Yeah... no apart from being last gen it has some audio problems through the aux port that all my friends with an 5t encountered. Forgot what it was exactly.

uh yes it would because this phone is meant for 19:9 so your sacrificing part of your screen on top and bottom. Where is your logic for thinking it's not. The physical screen isn't going to automatically change so you're just going to have black borders.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

[Q] AMOLED cinema mode.

Hi, so I am currently set to the AMOLED cinema mode in settings/display/screen mode as it helps with my red green colorblindness. However, I am wondering if the over saturated color gamut of cinema mode will possibly accelerate the rate of screen degradation.
To reiterate, will having my screen set to a more saturated setting speed up the process of screen burn in/degradation?
You'll be on to the next flagship before that happens...

Yes, but I just wanted to know if there was any kind of difference using this screen setting, as I plan to keep this phone for about 2 years.

No, of course not. That's ridiculous.
AMOLEDs are known to suffer from burn in, but they've gotten a lot better than they used to be.

Why exactly wouldn't the higher levels of saturation lead to faster burn of those subpanel colors?

I've broken two screens in a month and paid $400. I also have an s3 from 3 years ago that is impeccable. Screens are built to last for a very long time if taken care of. If not, just get a new one [emoji4]

None above and beyond that of any phone. I would imagine you are here to bait and upset because you would know all this without asking in the forum if you actually cared.
It has the best battery life of any flagship right now, it has the best display, best camera front and back, Exynos is the fastest and smoothest experience of current flagships including the pixel which I sold for being too glitchy, it has wireless charging, an iris scanner, it's waterproof in a metre of water for up to an hour, it has the fastest wifi of most flagships, it can connect to multiple bluetooth devices at once, and bixby reminds you to set your alarm when you go to bed.
Interestingly it has awful audio quality through headphones.
I am sure if it had Apple OS you'd find that interesting.

We can hide the notch.

Per Google they are adding the option.

well, technically, they arent adding it, the option is already available in Pie.

I really do hope they refine its implementation though. Moving icons down below is less than ideal.
I hope there's an option to half-hide it too. I could deal with half of that ridiculous notch.

so I went to best buy this evening to check it out.
unfortunately is was pretty crippled and I could not enable developer options (needed a password), so I couldnt get a full idea of how it looks hidden.
having said that, it really doesnt look as bad as it does in pictures online. however, it is still big.
It is not so visible on home screen if you use a dark wallpaper. Some apps hide it automagically, which keeps the status icons on the top, which is exactly how I wish it would be when hidden. I will probably make a photoshop overlay for wallpapers that will hide the notch with status up high, as I dont really use the live walls or anything like that, though I think devs will figure out a way to do that as well.
Viewing pics and video full screen it (the notch) will bother me very much.
Unfortunately the phone had no internet or cell signal, and of course connectivity settings were not available.
The screen to me is a HUGE improvement over the 2XL it looks fantastic. Even the non-XL was very impressive screen wise. Speakers do indeed sound louder, though I could only play the on-board ringtones etc, which still only preview out of one speaker.
Sadly hard to get a full hands on with it being crippled, but I do feel better about pre-ordering it than I did before I checked it out.

That's what I will be doing when I get mine and at least then I can pick and choose between notch/notchless (not crotchless that's something altogether different lol)
Been using Nacho Notch on my 3xl since I got it on Wednesday. Just turned it off to see if there was any difference in color on a white background. Didn't see a thing. Maybe it will the longer it is used, but my phone screen is pretty much on all night because I leave Netflix running when I fall asleep. I'll learn real quick if it does in fact have burn-in or image retention (OLED screen problem).

I usually watch a show when I go to bed. Half the time I fall asleep and wake up realizing I am a few episodes into a series.
Honestly doesn't bother me much (Well, at least it will until I can get root and install an xposed module that cuts charging off and starts charging again when the battery gets slow, or allow you to change the rate at which the phone charges). I used the module on my Pixel 2 XL and the battery was just as good as it was when I first got it 9 months later. Sadly, can't remember the module name, but it makes the chance of reducing your phones battery charge much smaller and livable with.

Pop Up Camera

Is anyone actually interested with the popup camera?
Would be a sturdy one so i don't mind it. There might be a fraction of a second delay on the Face Unlock though.
With the immersive display experience the popup will be totally worth it :good:
I am looking forward to it. Something new and different. Im not worried as many are about the durability or life. I see no reason why it wouldn't hold up for a few years even though it will only have to last me a year. Never

Faceunlocks wouldn't matter much anyways as most people would be using the Fingerprint scanner, yet I doubt the durability of any moving parts in a phone

i agree
people are forgetting that others will be using the phone for a while, and then re-sell
say 3 years down the track, and 4 owners later the camera stops working - and the user is non-tech savvy, thats negative branding right there, people wont know why its not working, they will just know that it stopped and blame the OEM.

Not sure about the popup camera, I don't like the idea of having to use that kind of garbage to avail of face unlock. I'm quite considering buying the pro version if it has 12gb ram 256 rom 3.5mm jack, notch or no notch doesn't matter to me.

12GB Ram is actually overkill, most users wouldn't exceed 4Gb of Usage and well the 3.5mm jack could be a reason!

I had the Vivo Nex S and the pop-up camera is pretty sturdy. Looking fwd to the 7 Pro.

oh
last time i read i thought it was only the 7pro that had it
nontheless, the op7pro screen is better, and IIRC the standard 7 doesnt have a 90hz screen.
still though, UFS was one of the main reasons for getting the 7pro and not the 7, i may look into the differences alittle more now.
Seeing the Launch Video, I'm a little less doubtful about the Pop up camera, it's seems durable !

The only part I don't like about a curved screen is having to use a LOCA-based screen protector if you want to use tempered glass. Well, that and the side edges of most cases don't provide as much protection as the top and bottom edges since they are usually lowered to facilitate swiping.

The most major is that the quality tempered glass screen protectors for curved screens are harder to install, and there are not as many, again I would say "quality", choices available.
The second is that it's just an unusable part of the screen. Definitely my only complaint about the Pixel 6 Pro - the curve, inside an OtterBox Defender (Pro) case, made it very difficult to operate things from either side edge of the screen.
On the Pixel 7 Pro, with it's reduced curve, it's tons better, but I still don't see any advantage of having the curve versus not having one.
Ninja'd by @Lughnasadh again. LOL!

Yes, please. The Pixel 7 Pro is barely wider than my Pixel 6. Why they bothered with curved edges is beyond me. When those curves catch a glare it reduces the viewable area of the screen which makes buying a larger screen pointless. I am dealing with it so I can have the extra lens, but this curved screen infuriates me at times.
I will do my best to bring the 411 through a VPN tether tunneled through an encrypted SSL through a onion browser on a hotspot from my father's brother's nephews cousins former roommate.
Very similar to the old telephone in the shoe trick. Good thinking Max!
I don't actually mind the curve on my 7 Pro. I even found one niche use case I didn't think about - it makes it easier to move icons between home screens because I just have to drag it into the curve and it jumps screens.
My Spigen Tough Armor provides ample protection. I haven't used a screen protector since the HTC Mogul as I can't stand having something over the screen.
I do agree that Pixels need to return to Qualcomm but it won't ever happen so I'm glad the modem is at least fine for me.
