.130 vs .152 benchmarks results - Huawei P20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all,
My device just got the new update 152
I did a little tests and what i'am seeing that the performance is really enhanced alot.. The battery lasts about 1 hour more
And the benchmark results are better
Attached the results.

Has the front camera improved ?

No. It's a white flag with redundant graphic the front camera. With 152 they added the opt feature tho that helps.

opt feature? What does that do exactly?

Improves most of the features by a wide margin! Difference is quite amazing!

The true benefits of GPU Turbo are only seen with apps that are GPU Turbo optimized ( like Asphalt and PUBG), I am guessing the benchmark isn't. Also, one benchmark is not really representative, you need multiple tests and then compute the average.

Benchmark scores of Korean(Exynos Octa+LTE) variant - SHV-E300K of KT(Korea Telecom)

I just bought a Korean variant Galaxy S4, KT's SHV-E300K(32GB). As far as I know, this is somewhat rare variant because it's an Exynos-powered S4 with LTE support.
With 2-year contract, I just picked it up without paying any money at the shop. The device costs me 899,000 Won actually and it's approximately $809.55 as of today. Monthly bill from KT will be about $72+ for 30 months, I guess. The guy gave me toilet paper rolls, lol. It's official KT promotion merchandise. Also he promised the shop will provide 3rd party cover/case and the protective film when they get those accessories in stock.
It's pity that I can't test its LTE capability at the moment. Being Saturday, I couldn't activate my new S4 right away. The KT rep said my new S4 will be activated at 10AM in the morning, next Monday. For the weekend till Monday morning, my official phone would be my old iPhone 4.
Cause this is the 1st time for me to use Android device, I'm frankly in panic now. iOS and Android(maybe Touchwiz) are too much different. I think I will have a hard time to get myself accustomed to this Android device.
The device itself is pretty nice. It's so much lighter and thinner compared to my old iPhone 4. The display is just incredible. I have seen lots of S3 and Note 2 around but this phone's screen was just beyond my expectation.
I had purchased Samsung 64GB microSD card(SDXC Pro class 10) before I bought the phone. The 1st work I did was copying iTunes music library from my MBP to the microSD card. It took about 30+ GB already. What I figured out is Apple's bundle earbuds I bought after the launch of iPhone 5 is not fully compatible with S4. Though stop/play button works, volume control button doesn't.
Antutu score was 29108 at my 1st try. Oddly, every time I repeat the test the score keeps going down. I don't know why. Because this is a Korean variant, it has DMB antenna allowing me to watch some TV channels as well as audio-only channel like radios for free.
If you have any question, feel free to ask. Though I'm a newbie to Android.
(I don't know why I can't upload images. Maybe I'm too newbie to upload images, lol. I put some images on picture board of Korean site I frequent and used the hot links.)

I did SunSpider test on default browser(Samsung) and Chrome. I'm not sure this is the test you wanted. Also, I've done 3DMarks test. Both Icestrom and Icestrom extreme. Check the attached images.

Thanks for the tests.
I think that something is not right with these numbers.
Either the firmware is still not optimized, or it's throttling for some reason.
http://gfxbench.com/compare.jsp?cols=2&D1=Samsung+GT-I9500+Galaxy+S4&D2=Apple+iPhone+5
If I compare against iPhone 5, the Triangle throughput is clearly so bad.
I don't know the explanation for this. But I think there is still some room for improvement with the low-level results.

Maybe the phone was throttling during the test.
@procol: hi, when you do some benchs, you should close all apps and go in planemode. No WiFi, GPS and so too.
3dmark is not so high in your example. My one reaches more then your S4, but it should be atm s4>one, cuz of driver.

A small tip -- allow few mins between the tests to let the phone cool-off.
Maybe a reboot will also help between the tests.
Also try a BaseMark X test!

Piece of advice : hide your IMEI number in those screenshots, that's something you don't want to show to everyone.

Will there be any AOPS ROMs for this device?

Of all the released devices so far this year/end of last year, the Mate 8 is the only one that I might consider buy even tho the price is a bit too high for the performance (no 4k recording, only 1080p display and Kirin...).
The only thing holding me back is the lack of AOSP ROMs. Do you guys think there will be any ROMs close to vanilla or should I just wait for a better phone to be released?
display is one of THE best IPS displays around, u wont even notice that its 1080p. i know i dont
kirin 950 is on par with sd820 and exynos 8890, so...what about the performance? only area where its slower is graphics, thats it. cpu, ram, especially UI is on par if not better. lots of reports from users stating that mate 8 provides the smoothest day to day experience
also, what exactly do u hope to gain through an aosp rom? visually, u can change the stock roms to look like aosp, no problem. function range is also quite vast already at stock.
in the end, it always depends on whats really important to you:
mate 8 pros: brilliant display, super smooth UI, great sound, huge display size, looooong battery life
mate 8 cons: camera (according to other users, but i havent noticed anything bad), gpu performance (in benchmarks, still plays actual games smoothly)

If you are playing around with VR, then 1008p is not the best resolution, rockording in 1080p is not as good as recording in 4k when you play around with motion tracking..
I don't care about the performance, the Kirin don't seems to be as developer friendly as SoCs from Qualcomm.
I like stock sense it's not bloated... and I like to have my devices for as long as possible and I don't think Huawei will keep updating the Mate 8 so long, that's a big reason I wan't AOSP ROMs early so it seems like the device have a bigger chance to be updated to the newest version of Android in a couple of years from now.

Wich resolution you use on Oreo

Hi,
Wich resolution you use ? (1080P/1440P)
And why ?
Please say if you have an S8 or S8+.
It would be Better if you are on Oreo (Samsung have working on it in Oreo for less difference on both resolution )
I use 1080p cant see the difference im on s8

Yes im on Oreo
1440p for sure. If I need to last battery like for a long time (and forget my powerbank) i´ll just probably use battery saver - 720p. Don´t see reason why use 1080p anyway...
Problems with facebook on 720p. Pictures and videos are cropped.
I have seen big difference in smoothness .
For compared in fhd+ my s8 is more fast than mate 9 of my wife and In qhd+ the mate 9 win .
There's minimal battery difference between running it in fullhd+ and qhd+, the only way you would find some battery savings is if you play games a lot. I'm on oreo beta exynos
1440p. I'd rather it look better than get an extra 15 minutes of battery life
Wow...I can't believe people aren't using the full quality of the screen. You do realise the battery difference is negligible right? Whether you use FHD or QHD+, the display is still having to power up all the pixels. You save maybe 15 minutes of battery, nothing more, by using FHD.
Personally I can definitely see the difference in visual quality.

Yes agree with you but in term of performance the difference are no negligible.
Wtf are you guys talking about? The gpu is always running and rendering for full resolution. From what I understand, this "Screen resolution" setting is nothing like the "Screen resolution that you observe in Windows OS...". The difference is just the percieved resolution (BY APPS!!!) similar to what is done on MacOS..

Sorry but I don't agreed with you .
The operation of the gpu is the same as that on video games. If you play in FHD or QHD the request for power is not the same and you need a gpu/cpu more powerful .
A pixel is a pixel is a pixel. The higher the resolution, the "smaller" they seem.... You are still powering on all the pixels regardless ofthe resolution... The resolution, as it was mentioned before, is for the apps to use for scaling (if you ever develop anything for Android, read this article https://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html)
Resolution has little to no effect on battery, everyone stop crying about it...
1440p because I wasn't raised in a barn.
Haha! I just had to put that. I do use it but I have no good reason.
I have to agree with an earlier post that the higher resolution would impact performance.
I tried the highest resolution and I agree, everything looks much better and has close to 0 impact on battery life (if that's your thing) but I did notice a significant drop in performance.
That being said on 1080 there 0 lag, while on the higher resolution there's lag even in basic apps like messaging or contacts.
But that's my experience.
I don't really care that much about battery life on the s8 as it always got me through a whole day of usage, regardless of the settings, but I do care about performance.
I am 99% sure changing the resolution has an impact on gpu.
It's correct that I doesn't impact display power consumption but the gpu has to render more, so it will impact gpu performance.
Just my 2cents

Huawei P20 Pro - GPU Turbo Update (C432)

Yesterday I received the GPU Turbo Update on my Huawei P20 Pro, and I thought I may share my experience that I had with it so far and also make a list of things that changed with that update.
So far, I gotta say, GPU Turbo is amazing.
I tried it with the following games so far:
PUBG
Shadowgun Legends
Mobile Legends
War Robots
B. O. T.
All games run smoother than before, especially PUBG and Mobile Legends. Also, the device doesn't seem to get as hot as before when having longer gaming sessions, that was especially noticeable in War Robots.
Other things that have changed:
+ when filming in 960 fps: you can now choose between auto (start recording once the camera notices movement) and manual.
+ the font of the AOD (always on display) has been changed
If I notice more changes I'll make sure to post them here.

I don't even think these are true 960 fps.
I think the hardware is able to capture 120 fps max.
Almost sure the rest of the images gets computed by the NPU.
I still find it cool that Huawei was able to add such an amazing feature with a simple Software-Update.

I don't have alot of problems with it.
Sometimes the camera tends to oversharp when it is dark, and / or you take pictures with 10 MP, but this has been a rare case for me so far with the latest update.

The 960fps auto mode was present in 132 firmware as well.
Not sure if it is just my imagination, but I think that since the update the scrolling speed has been significantly reduced, ie if I check my Instagram feed and try to scroll quickly downwards it goes with less than half the speed with 152 update.. You just can't scroll fast enough anymore, maybe its an Instagram update? Dunno.

General Samsung galaxy M12, review after 2 months

Hey guys, welcome to review of samsung m12. I am using this smartphone as my daily drive since 31 October 2021.

Let's start :-
Weight and thickness- On paper, it's weight and thickness seens to be a lot but Samsung has somehow managed to a very good weigh destination and it feels normal in hand
Cameras- Primary and ultra wide camera are awesome. One can click really fantastic photos with it. But the rest 2 cameras are kind of trash.
Display- it's display is gorgious but las a bit less brightness
SoC- there is a huge confusion between it's soc but on my testing it's just good
Battery- it has a very large battery. It can easily cover 1.5 days in mixed usage

Hey guys, welcome to review of samsung m12. I am using this smartphone as my daily drive since 31 October 2021.
                          .
