[Unofficial] [Port] [Alpha] Alcatel U5 4G (5044x) Recovery and General Talk - General Topics

Hi! I have done many ports in order to make TWRP work on this device although it doesn't work to it's full potential as it doesn't read the internal or external memory/partitions unless you format it. I'm also leaving the stock zip file and stock SP flashable zip file along with the scatter file so you can thinker around it. I have tried my best and this is the best I've come to for now. I tried porting custom roms but unfortunately to no avail I was left with no choice but to give out. If there's anyone that would like to fix the TWRP recovery or compile it to this device then feel free to conatct me The phone hangs at Alcatel Powered by Android boot screen and does nothing when eg flashing the stock zip or any custom rom I tried to test.

I would like to say thanks to all the developers that I've ported their recoveries and best of all luck to all the XDA members trying to at least have android 7.1 o this phone. Keep in mind that this is the Alcatel U5 4G model and not the 3G model. The 5044 model and not the 4074 model. WIsh ye all luck :good:

Wow! Thanks for trying to port TWRP to our device. I'm going to wait until it's stable so I can have root!

In case you haven't rooted it already;
You can root this device without a custom recovery, if you get stock rom
You can take boot.img from the rom, use magisk manager to patch it, then flash the patched_boot.img to the device using SP tools

Hi! You can elaborate please? I really appreciate your help.
Thanks!

Thanks!
user154 said:
First you need to download the stock rom for this device, latest magisk manager apk, and if you havent already sp flash tools, and mtk vcom drivers.
Install vcom drivers, and extract sp tools.
Then take boot.img from stock rom and magisk manager apk and copy them to the device
Install magisk manager, then open it and click install, pick the patch boot image option. Direct it to the boot.img you copied to the device, this process will generate a patched_boot.img file, located in the download folder (I think, I cant 100% remember but i think its in download, if not look in top level of internal storage, and magisk manager folder)
Copy the patched_boot.img back to your computer, put it in the same folder as the stock rom (ie where you found the boot.img file you copied to the device)
Load up SP tools and load the android_scatter file from the stock rom, uncheck all boxes except boot, click the location field for boot and load the patched_boot.img you generated with magisk manager.
Remove the battery from your device and then reinsert,
plug usb cable into the computer but not your device
Click download on SP tools
While holing vol down plug the cable into your device, keep holding vol down till the bar across the bottom on SP tools goes yellow. When the flashing process is complete a box will come up saying download ok, you may now unplug your device and turn it on.
If you now load up magisk manager it should say magisk is installed and you will have root

Hi my friend, in first place thanks for your help and your time.
With your help i am happy with my rooted Alcatel U5 5044A. It is an after and before...
But was a nightmare, hehe.
I do everything step by step, and i rooted the phone but it was on sim lock screen and without chances of repair that.
After search, and try everything what i see, because of causality i download a firmware for the 5044D model and flash every again (with my modified boot.img) but using 2 parts of the 5044D firmare (simlock and secro).
Maybe i have an alien now, but with some magisk patches this phone is really very good for daily usage.
I am an iOS user on all my devices, and of course i jailbreak all them.
But that was a very cool adventure and now i get a very premium Alcatel U5 with:
- GPU Turbo Boost.
- Low-Ram Config+ for Magisk.
- S9 Emoji for Magisk (with Gboard).
- YouTube Vanced.
All credits to you!
Thanks for all and happy holidays.
PS: I take some images to show my result, but XDA says: To prevent spam on the XDA forums, ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages. After approximately 10 posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thank you for understanding!

INSTALLING CWM on ZOPO ZP900 LEADER

This method successfully installs the CWM on the phone. CWM version supplied by ZOPO does not work. Use the CWM posted in the second link
I am a still learning and not a developer !
Hi All ZOPO ZP900 Leader Owners,
This is a guide for Installing Clock Work Mod Recovery Image on ZOPO ZP900 Leader Phone. Most of the owners of this fantastic phone would have desperately tried like me to install CWM on this phone (some may have found success). ZOPO does gives an option to order the phone pre-rooted however they do not install CWM ....or for that matter there is no Stock Recovery on the phone !!!. Start the phone with Power + Volume Up button pressed and your presented with an image of sick Android lying down with a Red triangle coming out of his opened stomach
DONT TRY TO USE ROM MANAGER APP TO INSTALL CWM, THIS WILL ONLY BRICK YOUR PHONE !
So after breaking my head for couple of days, searching the net, downloading stuff I have successfully installed CWM !
So here are the steps !.
What you need
1. ZOPO ZP900 Leader phone
2. Download Fully working English CWM from here http://www.4shared.com/file/16vuWyiU/recovery.html. The one posted in Zopo website does not work.
3. Download latest SP Flash Tool for MTK6577 from here http://www.4shared.com/zip/Xgc3G_hB/SP_Flash_Tool_v3122200.html
4. Download the latest Stock ICS ROM for ZP900 from Zopo website link http://www.4shared.com/rar/hGY2ahbu/MP_MT77_root_en_play_fix_zp900.html
5. Download MTK6577 Driver from Zopo website http://www.4shared.com/zip/YXlLFoLm/6577driver_install_3_steps.html
Installation Steps
1. Unzip and Install the USB drivers on your Windows PC using the MTK 6577 Driver Zip file. There will be 3 folders named First Step, Second Step & Third Step. Open First Step install the MTK driver MSI file. Post completion open Second Step, click on ClickInstall Driver, it will automatically install the USB driver. Press Exit after installation (Win 7 may give error that installation was incorrect, just ignore)
Repeat the same for folder Third Step
Connect your phone switched off and battery removed using USB cable. Windows will recognize and install the MTK drivers for your phone (any free COM ports) will be configured. Disconnect the phone. Put the battery back but do not switch on the phone
2.Extract the latest ROM folder from downloaded ICS ROM. You will get 2 folders
database
MP_MT77_h958_zp900_zwx_ics_20120912-155136_TSZ_PC
Open the second folder (MP_MT77***). This is the folder that has all the image files. You will find recovery.img file. This is original file. You can either rename it or keep a back up and delete it.
3. Copy the new CWM recovery.img file that you downloaded from ZOPO website in this folder. Rename it to be recovery.img
4. Extract and run SP flash Tool.exe (the one with Blue image icon)
5.Click on Options, USB Mode will be checked, DA Download All will be checked, in the sub options Speed will be Checked High Speed, Battery select With Battery. Come to the main Application window
6. Click on Scatter-loading button which is on the right side below Downloading Agent. A window will open. Browse to your extracted ICS ROM folder, click on folder MP_MT77****. By default you will have only one map file of name MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc. Select this
7. The flash tool will populate the Map file on the application window. You will see multiple Entries such as
PRELOADER
DSP_BL
MBR
etc etc. Each will have a check box which is by default checked.
8. UNCHECK all entries EXCEPT FOR "RECOVERY". Leave Recovery checked.
9. Now click on "Download" on the Application or press F9 on keyboard. A warning message will pop up. Press YES
10. You will see in the status bar below "Searching"
11. Connect your phone (switched off and with battery inserted) via the USB cable.
12. Flash tool will do its stuff. First a red progress bar, then a count down, a quick yellow progress bar and final window showing Green Circle.
If you get this the Congrats You have flashed CWM !
Check by unplugging the phone and re-starting it with Power+Volume Up button Pressed. The Phone will boot into CWM !.
Enjoy !
Warning - Please follow the instructions. Don't mess around with anything else. Not responsible if you do anything else and brick your device !
In case you get any other error on SP Flash Tool, then recheck your MTK driver installation. Try on another PC.
Now I hope this opens the door for many other things !
Additional Info -
Install PDAnet from here http://www.junefabrics.com/android/download.php or Snappea from www.snappea.com to make your device get recognized when connected to the computer. Install this with your phone switched on, this software installs the necessary drivers for the phone, post which you can use flash tool.

Not sure if the issue is with CWM version supplied by ZOPO, need to try with other/older versions of CWM.
Please feel free to post links of CWM that works

Check your device drivers USB driver has not been installed properly. I faced this issue and after multiple attempts of reinstall of USB drivers the flash tool started working properly
Also you can try installing PDAnet from here http://www.junefabrics.com/android/download.php
Install this with your phone switched on, this software installs the necessary drivers for the phone, post which you can use flash tool.
Note Connect the phone to flash tool first without battery, in options select with battery, press download after selecting the required file, when it says searching unplug the phone put battery back, dont switch on, plus back the usb. The flash tool should load the required file.

It will flash the entire ROM again. My guide was specifically for flashing only the CWM and not the entire ROM. I wanted to keep the Stock rom intact as it came from ZOPO.
Word of caution, I am yet top try flashing the complete ROM so if you are trying ensure that your have taken a backup via CWM (if already flashed) of your existing full working ROM before attempting anything. Also flash only ZOPO Stock or customised ROMs,
From where did you bought this mobile?

[Guide] Install Custom Recovery for Blu Advance 5.0 D030UX

Before we start this post, I just wanted to say that I am new here (like today new) and XDA does not have this device listed in their website at all so I did not know where else to post this rather than the General Discussion, I do apologize for this annoyance and please forgive me. One last thing, I am not the developer of this, I am only the poster person........guy...... ;-; ....... the person who developed this custom recovery is @lopestom!! Please give him the credit he derserves, not me!! With this being said, let us move onto the post now!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE NOR IS THE DEVELOPER FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU CAUSE TO YOUR DEVICE!!*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings XDA Community and Blu Users!
Today I am Sharing this Custom Recovery that was made by @lopestom for the Blu Advance 5.0
Now before we get into this you will need to do the following first for the recovery to install.
You will need to install the MTK VCOM Drivers and the SP Flash Tool.
-How to install MTK VCOM Drivers for Windows 8: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2693906
-How to install MTK VCOM Drivers for Windows 10 64-bit/32-bit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/elephone-m2/help/windows-10-mtk-vcom-usb-drivers-32-64-t3267033
-Installation for SP Flash Tool: https://androidmtk.com/smart-phone-flash-tool
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now once you get this done, you will want to install the custom recovery files for which I am providing to you Blu Advance 5.0 Users from [B @lopestom[/B]. (download link at the very bottom)
Once you install the zip, follow these simple steps and you will have the recovery installed in no time!
1. Download zip file and then unzip to then where you will see two files: *recovery img and scatter file*
2. Open SPFT, and load the scatter file from that folder unzipped
3. Click the Download Tab, and edit the settings as follows:
A. Make sure 'Download Only' is selected
B. Only Recovery Partition box is checked
C. Make sure correct scatter is loaded
4. Double click in 'Location' field next to recovery partition and select recovery.img
5. Click "Download" Button
6. Power off phone
7. With "Download" button clicked in SPFT, connect phone to USB without powering on (VCOM DRIVERS MUST BE INSTALLED FOR THIS TO WORK)
8. Wait for SPFT to flash, popup with green check-mark will display when complete
9. Disconnect phone from USB, hold power + volume-up keys until boot into TWRP Recovery
10. Done!
11. You have successfully installed this custom recovery for your Blu Advance 5.0!!
As a perk, you can now root your device if you have not already with Super Su: https://download.chainfire.eu/964/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip?retrieve_file=1

When is TWRP installed?
Sorry, as a noob, I have no idea at what point TWRP needs to be installed, if at all. Andvance 5.0 isn't on the list in the official TWRP app, so installling that from Google Play Store doesn't help. Do I get blutwrp.img -and how do I install it? Do I flash twrp, too, or install it another way ? Should twrp come up automatically here? I'm totally confused with this guide.

This post looks pretty new. So I thought I'd drop by just in case you never figured out how to install TWRP. At the bottom of the guide there is this:

That download URL is TWRP. If I were to guess, the download is an unofficial port of TWRP. Since TWRP doesn't have an official build for BLU Advance 5.0, you have to use the file provided by OP (I am not aware of any other unofficial ports of TWRP specifically for BLU Advance 5.0).
It has been a while since I rooted the BLU Advance 5.0 for my friend, but I believe it is not possible to directly flash a custom recovery onto the device. That's why you need to install SPFT which was also generously provided by OP:
RonneyDude said:

However, in order to use that tool, you must make sure you have the right drivers so your phone and computer can communicate:

After you have installed the proper drivers for your computer and SPFT, you are all set to follow the steps OP provided. Any instance where it says "zip file" he is referring to the zip file you should have downloaded from androidfilehost.com (first link I quoted from OP).
As long as you know that, here are the steps 1 - 11 you should follow:

10. Done!

I may be misreading this sentence, but incase I am not, I'll explain. The primary reason people install a custom recovery is so they can root their phones. In the case of BLU Advance 5.0, that phone only has an internal storage of 4GB, which I have recently learned is apparently taken up entirely by Messenger itself (if you download Facebook Messenger). What's the point of having a smartphone if you can't install apps on it? There is an app called Link2SD which can trick the phone into believing the external SD card space is internal (more or less). Link2SD needs root though.
After installing TWRP, now is when you can flash things the way I imagine you're moderately familiar with from your comment. The only thing you should need to flash via this method should be SuperSU, to give you the root privilege necessary for Link2SD. OP has also provided this:

If you followed all the steps properly, you should be able to power down your device, and boot into TWRP by holding the Power and Volume Up buttons until you see the white BLU boot screen. From there, you can flash SuperSU.
Hope this helped clear some things up for you!

However, in order to use that tool, you must make sure you have the right drivers so your phone and computer can communicate:
After you have installed the proper drivers for your computer and SPFT, you are all set to follow the steps OP provided. Any instance where it says "zip file" he is referring to the zip file you should have downloaded from androidfilehost.com (first link I quoted from OP).
As long as you know that, here are the steps 1 - 11 you should follow:

While this helps, I've been doing this for months now... And now I am faced with the problem of the new OTA they just gave me, which blocks any and all root access that I had before. Now my problem is figuring out if I need to re-flash the previous version to my firmware or unlock the bootloader and just install a custom ROM, given that a universal ROM is compatible.
A way to unbrick?
So, I have one and bricked it when flashing a recovery I found when I searched blue advance 5.0 custom recovery on google
when I searched, I used the one I found at the blueroms dot info site
it is now in a boot loop, and I can't access anything except the menu between booting factory mode and recovery
is there a way I can fix it, and flash this?
Thanks!
Thanks for not only the instructions, but for accepting the possibility that I may have figured it out myself.
As a regular linux user, I'm not sure why the xda comunity depends on: SP Flash Tool, MTK VCOM Drivers for Windows and MTK VCOM Drivers for Windows 10 64-bit/32-bit. Especially at this point shouldn't there be some tools from Chrome OS? if not Linux itself? Sorry that's kind of off point, but your help is indeed appreciated.
Trying to Root
Hello everyone, I have been desperately trying to root a Blu Advance 5.0 HD that i just got. It runs Android Version 6.0 Kernal 3.18.19 Custom build BLU_A050U_V04_GENERIC 19-09-2016\
So The farthest i got was clicking download and plugging in the phone. It gives me an error and suggests i Format+download. Doing that semi bricks my phone and i have to flash a oem firmware. I even tried using the oem files and just replacing the recovery which did the trick in making it run, but did not install twrp. What am i doing wrong, Id rather not return the phone but i may if i cannot root it.
Thanks anyone who can assist me!
Nothing happened
Greetings,
I was able to install drivers on the PC and flash the recovery through SPFT and directly from fastboot but it didn't work. Although both methods gave me OK, when I boot into recovery I still get the stock recovery 3e version of the BLU. So, is there something that I'm missing?

[GUIDE] [ROOT] myPhone HAMMER AXE M LTE

I finally found a way to root the myPhone Hammer AXE M LTE!!! You can use Magisk to patch the boot.img from the 1.0.3 OTA! See the attached thumbnails at the bottom.
My steps:
1) Upgrade to the latest OTA from myPhone (1.0.3). In the event that you can’t download it through your phone, I’ve uploaded it to MEGA: https://mega.nz/#!Ndw3TYrR!nozVRHC1M4ugn-_PKzC7tn1fAAV6w7bB7Iq2uRr8FHA
1a) I had to manually reboot into recovery to install the update. Power off the phone, hold power + PTT until you see the myPhone logo. Once you see the dilapidated robot, tap and hold power then vol + (in that order!!!).
2) The update should be on your external SDcard. Select it and wait for the install to finish.
3) After the install completes, reboot to your system and install the Magisk Manager: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
3a) If you want to use my patched boot and scatter, skip steps 4, 5, and 6 and go to step 7. Patched boot, Scatter, Magisk.apk and Stock Recovery: https://mega.nz/#!YAQ3BQyS!dJjw-O9pyB7ra2q3qrheo7VFXeyUc4MmW1aqbBqTi6I
4) From within the Magisk Manager, go to settings, enable BETA. Go back to the main Magisk screen and select install. Select patch boot. Patch the boot.img from the 1.0.3 OTA.
5) Once that’s done, Magisk will spit a patched_boot.img to your Magisk forlder on your internal drive. Copy that over to your PC (or email it to yourself, my PC couldn't see it for some reason).
6) If you don’t already have a working SCATTER file, you’ll need to download one. The only one I’ve found that works is in this ROM: https://www.needrom.com/download/myphone-hammer-axe-m-lte/
7) Grab SP Flash Tool: https://spflashtool.com/ , launch it, load the SCATTER file, either the one from the .zip I provided or the one from the ROM on needrom.com (they’re the same), uncheck all the boxes in the lower half of the SP Flash Tool window except for the boxes to the left of the boot and recovery rows. Click in the “location” field on the right-hand side of the window, a dialog will pop up, choose the your patched boot image, if you’re using the one I provided it will be called “magisk_boot.img”. See attached thumbnail for reference.
8) Make sure that the field above the area with the content to flash is on DOWNLOAD ONLY. Make sure you don’t have and Android devices attached to your PC and upon successful inspection, click “Download”.
9) Turn off your myPhone AXE M LTE. Wait for it to fully power down (there will be an additional vibration after the screen goes blank). Attach the phone to the computer via the USB cable that shipped with it. If the SP Flash Tool is in a good mood, it should start flashing immediately (the bottom strip on the window will turn red, then yellow, then you’ll get a pop-up saying “OK!”). If SP Flash Tool is being an @$$, you may have to unplug the USB cable, hit “Download” again, plug the cable back in and repeat until SP Flash Tool correctly sees your phone.
10) Once you get the “OK!” box, reboot the phone. Go to Magisk Manager. Hit install. Choose the direct install (the third option, bezposrednie). Reboot the phone.
11) You should now be able to install XPOSED, VIPER, etc through the Magisk Manager. For XPOSED, make sure you’re using the MAGISK SPECIFIC APK (downloaded from with the Magisk Downloader, just click on the text describing the module and you’ll get a changelog): https://mega.nz/#!UYwExLjC!AAZi-qho0PHWNjXMzAikbTHmTjaEtYfLlqYeDbeJM14
Note: Everything I've tried except for the DOLBY modules has been working splendidly. If you brick yourself, just reflash the ROM from needrom.com and start over.

I had no idea OTA 1.2.0 existed. Is it Nougat? If so, could you upload it to Mega?
I do not know how. I got my phone back from service (new display), before it was android 4, now it is android 6, working ver:AXE_M_LTE_EN_20170410_1.2.0 core 3.10.72 [email protected] #2

Ok. Mine is still running 1.0.3. I bought it from Biedronka less than a year ago and it already had Marshmallow on it.
Well, I do not know if your procedure works on 1.2.0 and do not want to brick it.

Don't blame you. Hopefully they'll release the OTA you have for the rest of us and then we'll be able to see if the Magisk method works for it too. At the moment my aktualizacja program says that 1.0.3 is the latest OTA.
Files lacking in your upload?
Hello,
thank you for this tutorial. I encountered a few problems:
1) needrom.com requires not only an account, but also a premium one to download the file you linked.
2) Your scatter file was not accepted by my SP flash tool. I used the one I found somewhere else (searching by the CPU model) and it was accepted.
3) After I did this, I couldn't find magisk_boot.img which was supposed to be in your .zip archive. There is no such file there. There is only boot.img, but judging by the size this is an unpatched one you attached in point 4) of your tutorial.
4) I tried generating my own patched_boot.img and succeeded, but it is rejected by SP flash tool (wrong format or sth).
5) Only pair of boot and recovery files that was accepted is in "sig" folder of ur archive. But I have no idea what files are theese and I don't have the guts to try this.
I have no idea what to do now. Could you give me some clues?

Hey.
I'd tried contacting the original uploader of the needrom file but couldn't get through to him, so I've uploaded his rom to mega:
https://mega.nz/#!9UQh3CBK!LqmVOAxfoIstSVAPeypVzsi7G8PGWQWB_j9qcZB_-RI (this is the same rom from step 6)
As for points 2 through 5, sorry for any confusion, I went back and updated my links. This should resolve your difficulties (initial files I used at the time I wrote the guide): https://mega.nz/#!9UQh3CBK!LqmVOAxfoIstSVAPeypVzsi7G8PGWQWB_j9qcZB_-RI There should be three files inside, the scatter I used, the stock recovery and the modded boot image entitled "magisk-boot.img"
Alternate upload (this contains a modded boot for Magisk 16.6 plus the APK for Magisk Manager): https://mega.nz/#!YAQ3BQyS!dJjw-O9pyB7ra2q3qrheo7VFXeyUc4MmW1aqbBqTi6I
Note 1: on Linux I had to flash both the recovery and the modded boot at the same time because it kept hanging when I was only flashing the modded boot. I don't know why, I just troubleshot till it worked and that's why the stock recovery is included in the .ZIP I linked.
Note 2: I have a Hammer Axe M LTE (if you're in Poland, they were sold for 700zl at Biedronka). I don't know if this process will work on any other variant.
This is my MEGA folder for the Hammer: https://mega.nz/#F!hNAxAQBC!B0el82vXo1sKsEdIskoW1g

TWRP modded to work now with Unihertz Atom

Below you will find a download for my modification of a ported Team Hovatek TWRP file as their TWRP did not support OTG. Thanks to Team Hovatek for making a nice porting tool. Unfortunately it took some days and late nights of work to get the ported TWRP to actually be useful as this phone needs OTG support to use TWRP.
When I recently got the Unihertz Atom I didn't realize that it had no micro SD card slot for an external SD card like the Unihertz Jelly Pro had. However it does have OTG support unlike the Jelly Pro but I could not find any TWRP versions for the Atom. So I found a TWRP porting tool from Hovatek and I was able to create a TWRP version but USELESS unfortunately as that version of TWRP did not have OTG support for the Atom.
To make matters worse that TWRP can't deal with the encrypted internal storage of the Atom so there was no way to do a backup of your system. It was possible to format data in TWRP and do a backup to it but upon reboot all that data was gone and reset by the Atom as an essentially new phone being setup for the first time.
I needed a way to modify the ported TWRP so it would recognize an OTG flash drive or USB flash with an OTG cable. I used Image Kitchen to disassemble the original Atom Recovery image and also the modded TWRP recovery image so I could find what was missing from TWRP that was there in the original setup. After a whole lot of reassembling and reflashing various attempts to fix the OTG problem I finally got it. Had to add different lines of code to 3 different files within the unpacked TWRP recovery for it to finally recognize an OTG attached flash drive.
A couple notes on using your external flash drive with TWRP. First you want to insert the flash drive with an appropriate USB type C OTG adapter or cable. Or I see Sandisk (and possibly other brands) are now making a flash drive with USB and Type C dual setup for OTG use.
Bootup your regular phones Android system and look in the pull down notifications - it will ask if you want to use the flash drive as storage. Answer yes and it will then Format it to FAT32 0x0C type which is different than what it was fresh out of the package as most will be FAT32 0x0B type. Once formatted the way the Atom wants it you can use it. However if you put the drive back in your Windows computer it may not see the drive at all. The solution is to open Windows Disk Management and Assign it a drive letter. Once that is done you can read and write to it from both Android and Windows or Linux.
Once that is done you can turn off your phone (IMPORTANT). Do not use any apps that reboot into recovery after installing this TWRP or you will likely just get a black screen and it won't boot up until you reflash the preloader, boot and recovery.
To get into recovery hold down the Volume UP button and the Power button at the same time until you see Unihertz then release both. This is of course after you have flashed TWRP. More on that below. Once your are in TWRP you may have to remove your Flash drive if you had it plugged in during recovery boot up - then reinsert it for TWRP to see it. You can then see it when you mount storage or select storage and it should show the size of your flash drive.
You can then backup your Boot, Recovery, EMMC, System and cache. However the data on the Atom seems to be encrypted in a way that this TWRP does not see it so it will be best to use something like Titanium backup for your Apps and their data. The TWRP though will ensure a complete backup of your system and it's settings as well as the other items mentioned above. I am still looking into why it can't see the encrypted data part of the phone but for now it's nice to have an image of all the rest of the phone. If anyone can help with that I would appreciate it. So far I've tried several 'no encrypt scripts' and ones to turn off DM verity I found on XDA but none of them worked on this phone.
Here is the download of my modded TWRP and also a link for the SHA-256 of it:

Notes on Installing this TWRP on your Atom
There are two ways I have used to install this TWRP onto the Atom. One way (and the best way IMO) is to use the SP Flash tool version 5.1828. The other is to use Fastboot. I believe for both methods you need to enable developer options on your phone and turn on OEM unlocking. But if you use Fastboot you also have run the line: "fastboot oem unlock" to install TWRP and that will wipe your phone to a new reset condition plus you will see the 5 second "Orange State" pause screen every time you turn on the phone. To eliminate the "Orange State you can run : "fastboot oem lock" but that will once again totally reset your phone wiping everything including apps and settings. So I prefer using SP Flash tool to avoid all that.
When installing with SP Flash tool I always flash the preloader, boot and recovery (the TWRP modded one) and of course the scatter file. It seems if you don't flash all of those it sometimes doesn't want to boot up.
Also this mod is for the official Unihertz 11-30-2018 ROM version which is the latest update I've seen as of a week ago. I don't know if it will work for other versions. You will want to download that ROM to get the scatter file that is needed by SP Flash tool and it's always good to have an original ROM just in case. Link for the new 11-30-2018 Atom ROM here: 11-30-2018 Atom ROM If you are not on that version you could backup your apps and data with Titanium backup and then install the new ROM while flashing my modded TWRP all at the same time. Just make sure the TWRP you download is named "recovery-verified.img" when you replace the stock one in the SP Flash tool list on the Download page. Also make sure on the tools 'Connections' setting that you check 'Battery installed'.
IMPORTANT!!! - Every version of SP Flash tool I've used shows up as having a virus or trojan and although it may probably be a False positive to be safe I always run Shadow Defender before starting the SP Flash tool. There may be other similar programs but I found this to be one of the best as it totally freezes your computer and hard drive(s) so nothing can be changed or written permanently to them while in Shadow mode. Once you reboot everything is back to a normal state and any changes that may have been made are gone. SP Flash tool available here: SP Flash tool v5.1828 I strongly suggest you use this latest version as previous ones had some issues in completing this project.
A couple quick notes on using the SP Flash tool: It is best to start the tool, have all your items in the check boxes loaded (select scatter file location first) check and locate preloader, boot and recovery - the preloader and boot are from the original ROM you downloaded from the above link. Unzip it and you'll see the needed files inside along with the scatter file.
Once that is ready turn OFF your phone and hook it up with the original USB-C cable to your computer. Wait for it to show the battery charging screen and wait till all that disappears and you have nothing but the black screen. (Or per user SepticFuddy you can hold the Volume Up key while inserting the USB cable and it will connect quickly - I have not tested it this way). Then click on the Flash tool download button. After that you need to push the Atom Power button once briefly - not long enough to turn it on - just a brief click. After that you should see the Flash process going on - it only takes a few seconds to load the preloader, boot and recovery and then you will see a "done" with a big check mark. Remove your phone then and boot into your regular Android OS or use Volume Up and the Power key to boot into your TWRP. :highfive:
Why TWRP doesn't work with Encryption - from TeamWin
I guess this may explain why it is unlikely to get TWRP to work with the encrypted data partition - straight from Teamwin's TWRP website:
"Why doesn't TWRP support encryption on my device?
TWRP encryption is supported in 2 phases. The first item is keeping up with the newest support from AOSP, which can require lot of changes and integration with the new AOSP release. This can take time especially if we have to wait for reference devices to test with. The second item is custom blob support and integration with device OEM firmware.
Even if your device supports AOSP encryption and decryption, it usually requires custom blob support. The process of figuring this out may take time and may never be done. Some vendors such as Samsung use their own encryption techniques. Without heavy deconstruction/decompiling of custom library blobs, and successful ports by an active maintainer, this may never be done. Encryption support is a nice thing to have in TWRP, and not a must have support option. We feel that the ability to backup system and install custom firmware can outweigh having no TWRP support at all."
From: TWRP Website FAQ on Encryption
How I fixed TWRP
For anyone who wants to try the mods their self if you don't trust using the recovery I uploaded I believe these are the changes I made to the ported TWRP. You need of course the porting tool from Hovatek and after you have ported your original recovery you will want to use Image Kitchen to make these mods to the ported image:
Use Image Kitchen to unpack the ported TWRP recovery. In the Ramdisk folder this line "ro.agui.otg_usbdisk=yes" orginally found in the prop.default of the original recovery needs to be put into the file "default.prop" which is a different file name than the original but I am sure is the same purpose and was referenced in the original by a small file with that name.
Then this line "/dev/mt_otg_test(/.*)? ubject_r:mt_otg_test_device0" from the original recovery image in the file "nonplat_file_contexts" I believe I copied into the file "file_contexts" in the TWRP image in the Ramdisk folder.
Note - the above code line that has a smiley in it is because there is the letter "o" followed by a colon. Replace the smiley with "o" and : no spaces between it and the letter 'u' before it or between 'o' and :
I think the third file I modified was found in the unpacked folder /ramdisk/etc in the file 'recovery.fstab' and I took this line "/devices/platform/mt_usb* auto vfat defaults voldmanaged=usbotg:auto " from it to add to the same file in the ported TWRP. Then just repack everything in Image Kitchen and you should have a TWRP recovery that works with OTG.
If you aren't familiar with how to use Image Kitchen it would be best to google how to use it. I have left out some of the basics such as needing to Copy the “recovery.img-kernel” and “recovery.img-kernel_offset” from the unpacked stock recovery and overwrite those two files in ported TWRP folder. Best to look for an instruction article on techora.net about porting TWRP on mediatek devices.
Thank you, it's awesome! But how did you manage to flash Magisk? I can't flash it as /data and /storage can't be mounted.
You should be able to flash it with Fastboot by using command:
fastboot flash boot /path/to/patched_boot.img OR simply put it in the fastboot folder and type:
fastboot flash boot boot.img (the patched boot image)
You may want to review info on the Magisk thread here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
This method of course is done with you computer and USB cable attached to the Atom. Make sure you have correct drivers for it to fully recognize your phone.
A bit more info from topjohnwu's Magisk thread mentioned above:
Via Magisk Manager:
This method does not need root, and also does not require a custom recovery.
However, you MUST have a stock boot image dump beforehand, and you also have to be able to flash the patched boot image, either through fastboot/download mode or ODIN
Install the latest Magisk Manager
If you're planning to flash the patched boot image through ODIN, go to Settings > Update Settings > Patched Boot Output Format, and select .img.tar. For normal users leave it as the default .img
Press Install > Install > Patch Boot Image File, and select your stock boot image file
Magisk Manager will now patch your boot image, and store it in [Internal Storage]/Download/patched_boot.img[.tar]
Copy the patched boot image to your PC. If you can't find it via MTP, you can pull the file with ADB:
adb pull /sdcard/Download/patched_boot.img[.tar]
Flash the patched boot image to your device and reboot. Here is the command if using fastboot:
fastboot flash boot /path/to/patched_boot.img
If the above method fails for some reason you should also be able to flash to patched boot image with SP flash tools as long as you have the scatter file for the ROM you have installed on your phone. As I mentioned if you flash the patched boot image that way I found it best to also flash the preloader and recovery at the same time.
Cannot mount /data
What you did here was remarkable. I love the Atom so I never tried to tinker with recovery since I might end up with a bootloop. I hope we find a solution soon on how to mount /data.
post-root network failure
First off thank you for doing the research and posting in the thread to help us root this awesome little device.
I followed your steps to the "T" and I was able to successfully patch magisk and re-download it back onto my atom and it was rooted BUT, there seems to be some sort of network issue that I'm stuck on, I'm unable to turn on the wi-fi and bluetooth and every few seconds I keep getting an error message that says "bluetooth keeps stopping" consistently whenever I have the phone on.
I was wondering If you had any idea on what might be causing this, or if you had this problem.
thank you, and I look forward to hearing back from you
droidzer1, Finally got to post now and wanted to thank you for your work on the Atom. I got it rooted and got TWRP working too with only some frustrations because I got in a hurry and missed a detail the first try. I haven't found any problems and have had it running about 2 weeks now with root and TWRP. Nice to have root and of course great to be able to do a whole system backup now!

Were you able to get this fixed? Doesn't look like droizer1 has been on here recently. Mine didn't have either of those issues. Have you tried doing a factory reset and doing the whole process over? I think sometimes just a computer PC might glitch something on your phone so doing it over might skip the hiccup.

Since droidzer1 first posted this in early January you might try using the version of Magisk that was available at that time as I think by later March when you posted there was a newer version out and I've found some versions of Magisk to not work a hundred percent and had to use an older version on some phones.
The latest Magisk (19100) + Xposed (v90 beta 3) work fine for me using the TWRP posted above, in case people were wondering about it.

Lost in reboot ...
Hi
I urgently need some help. I seem to be lost...
I have successfully installed TWRP on my Unihertz atom. And I can manage to go into either TWRP mode or into fastboot mode.
I can also successfully unlock the Unihertz atom with:
fastboot oem unlock-go
But what is next?
If I reboot, my phone constantly reboots. It cycles into reboot without Android coming up.
(perhaps I made something wrong).
What I actually want is: The phone should boot including Magisk.
Can anyone please help me what commands I have to issue (with the phone connected to my linux computer via USB) in order
to recover to a normal reboot? Which image-file should I use (please provide URL)?
Can anyone please help me what commands I have to issue to flash Magisk?
Which image-files I should use (please provide URL)?
If somebody has a custom rom or lineageOS rom I would be even happier ...
Thanks a lot.
Thank you
Confirmed working with the Android 9 Pie 2019082617 ROM, latest Magisk 19.3 (19300), latest Riru core v19.5, latest Riru- EdXposed v0.4.5.1b (4463) (SandHook). EdXposed seems hit or miss after a reboot though, getting it to stick may take a few installations.
To get SP Flashtool to work, I had to hold the Volume Up key while inserting the USB cable and it would instantly connect, rather than following the OP's instructions of just inserting the cable and waiting for a black screen.
I'd love to see a custom ROM like LineageOS or something, but this is will have to do for now.

I'd love to see a custom ROM like LineageOS or something, but this is will have to do for now.

Thanks for the mention of a quicker method. I've updated my post to include your info.

Me too!! LineageOS for the Unihertz Atom would be great!
The hadrware of the Uniherz Atom is just great, is is small and it is dual-sim. This is unique in the market.
I would be even willing to contribute with 100,- EUR if somebody delivers a working LineageOS ROM.
Any body interested? :highfive:

The main problem is that unihertz never released their source code (despite being obliged to do so according to the android licensing contract).
There are some bits in the official mediatek kernel source tree (https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/mediatek/) but I doubt that this would be enough to build something stable out of it.
@droidzer1 Hey there, what is the difference between your modded TWRP and this test release by the TWRP Builder Project asside from the TWRP version?

I'm not sure what the difference is except I came out with mine in January and theirs came out in March. Theirs is about 4 Megabytes bigger - maybe a newer version (mine is 3.2.1-0). I contacted 'bigbiff' at TWRP about mine when I had it working but they were not interested unless I had a device tree which I didn't so they didn't want to post it on their site.
Great, thanks for your reply. I am satisfied with you version, so I will just keep using it.

Blackview BV9800 PRO Rugged Beast MAGISK ROOT REQUIRED

Hi everyone,
I have rooted my last few smartphones and was always happy with it. Now I got new Blackview BV9800 PRO and I want to root it with Magisk. but as the phone is new, there is lack of information on the internet, Anyway, I have found some information, but it is not complete and I believe You, smart guys, can help me to root my smartphone
This is the information I got:
How to root it with Magisk :
Download your rom from : viewtopic.php?f=285&t=532354 (you can alternatively extract it with SP Flash Tool and WWR)
Download and install Magisk Manager on your phone : https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/rel ... v7.5.0.apk
Patch the boot image with Magisk Manager
Unlock the bootloader. (Wipe the phone! )
Flash the patched boot image with SP Flash Tool or Fastboot. (ONLY the boot image)
Reinstall Magisk Manager
This is what I did and what happened:
I installed latest Magisk apk from official sources. I opened the app, clicked on "Install Magisk", then via this app I downloaded the zip file, then tried to installed it via Magisk but got an error "Unsupported/Unknown image format".
Any ideas what have I done wrong? Did I have to flash boot image from the ROM, and not the one Magisk downloaded? P.S., the smartphone is new, nothing more then I written above is done to it (no oem unlocking, no usb debugging, etc).
RESERVED
I let Magisk manager patch the original boot.img. After flashing it with fastboot or SP Flash the phone stuck with message that verified boot didn't accept the signature.
Hm... Is there anyone who rooted BV9800 Pro successfuly and could guide us? ?
update fail.
I greet you, I accidentally deleted it when I updated, Nvram. on my phone. BV9800pro. It is possible to provide me with firmware recovered from a similar phone. I also posted on the forum at Blackview but without answer
Isn't there a full firmware download on Blackview website available? I thought I've seen it there

Hello
Yesterday during an update, by accident, my equipment, BV9800pro, performed a complete formatting, "Full Format + Dowload", it seems that Nvram has also been rewritten. it is possible to provide us with a solution or file with this data, specific to our equipment. i need a original nvram.bin, and nvram.data, in firmware from Blackview site this its not exist..
if someone wants to help me, I send them a private message with their email address
My phone is not rooted unfortunatelly, if I can help in anyway (if there is a way) I would pull out the files for You.
Do You know how to guaranteed root BV9800 Pro without running into problems?

who guarantees this?
rooting worked for me with that solution given to the PM. I wanted to install AOSP, but I found that the thermal image did not work anymore, there were some problems when previewing the video files from Facebook, and I gave up. from the mistake as I mentioned I format + dowload and delete all important partitions. nvram .bin si nvdata. Nothing works properly, TEE and Google Key are inactive, the thermal image fails, some applications are closed immediately. This is the experience with rooting and installing AOSP on the BV9800Pro
Oh man... Sounds bad... have You emailed blackview after sale support (via email, not forum)? No response from them?
And let's say I only root my BV9800Pro, will I be able to send You the files You need?

As I mention there's no TWRP available for this phone yet.
I just rooted BV9800 pro yesterday.
You don't need to SP flash tool or others, just need adb and fastboot.
Quick steps:
1. set OEM unlock to allow
2. connect phone to windows
3. use adb to check if connecting. command: adb devices
4. using adb to reboot to bootloader, command: adb reboot bootloader
5. And then the phone will enter fastboot mode ( you could see small string at left bottom corner)
6. use fastboot command to unlock bootloader. command: fastboot flashing unlock
7. If fastboot program is waiting, please check windows device manager, there should be an unknown device, let windows search driver automatically. it needs android interface driver.
8.Using volume up or down to agree unlock.
9. If agree, all data will be disappeared.
10. Install Magisk manger
11. Download stock ROM from blackview forum. it is zip file. Unzip it and copy boot-verified.img to phone.
12. patch boot.img by Magisk manger.
13. Copy patch image file to windows
14. use adb to reboot phone to fastboot mode
15. reflash boot image file. command: fastboot flash boot patched file name (normally, I would put patch image file in the same folder of fastboot)
16. reboot (fastboot reboot) and reinstall Magisk manager
There are many Magisk root steps instruction in internet. You could refer to other steps, they should be clear than mine. I prepared lots of drivers and application. Finally, I only used adb and fastboot to root this phone.
I rooted it exactly like You and it worked perfectly! Thanks for auch detailed rooting guide!
By the way guys, I think we Should open the request for TWRP for BV9800Pro. How do You think?
After you unlocked bootloader, it changed to orange state, and it always shows "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted..Your device will boot in 5 seconds", it could be resolved by modified LK image.
Refer to
1. https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-31664.html
2. http://bbs.blackview.hk/viewtopic.php?f=286&t=532899 -- included modified LK image
Of course, you could reflash by fastboot, no need to use SP flash tool.
hi if u have back up on your phone could u provide for me link. I had some problems with my loudspeaker and i thought its from the root, or software and i did full format and download. and now it show some watermark and probably is because i l deleted NVRAM.
i download already official version but didn't help ... thank u upfront.

Hi, I'm not rooted (yet) and my BV9800 PRO is having some issues with the loudspeaker, any media like YouTube or Spotify, play audio for a second or two and then just go mute, volume can be high but no audio at all, phone calls last longer but also go mute and have to go back to regular "ear-speaker" to keep listen to the other side. Are this the same problems you refer to? I can't remember if this happened after the OTA update tho. Thank you.
