Streaming audio over bluetooth using aptX™ HD and LDAC - General Questions and Answers

My Lenovo K8 Note shows all the various audio codecs in the Bluetooth section of the developer options but when I choose aptX to connect to the one bluetooth headset I have that supports it the stream type still shows SBC.
Does the presence of all these codecs in the list mean that my phone supports all of them?

Does the k1 support DTS Passthrough via hdmi?

If running kodi or Netflix etc on the K1 and plugged into an AV receiver, does it Passthrough DTS/Dolby digital properly, or down-mix to stereo PCM?
It's downmixed to stereo PCM by default, however it definitely CAN passthrough 5.1 DD or DTS assuming whichever app you're playing media with supports this.
HOWEVER, while older builds of Kodi (called the "****ty" builds, sadly, by the developers) forced passthrough over HDMI via LPCM bit-hacking, Jarvis (I think it was Kodi v17.4 and above) and other later versions won't pass through anything above 2.0 unless a capable device is detected over the HDMI connection.
This means that generic, unspecified HDMI audio extractors won't pass through anything above 2.0 (stereo) audio unless they're using the correct HDMI EDID handshaking to tell the given app that they're 5.1 surround (or higher) capable.
I've tested this personally. The same also applies for MX Player and VLC. Without a 5.1/7.1 capable HDMI audio extractor or home stereo surround decoder connected you'll only get stereo sound passthrough (unless using the older LPCM passthrough versions of Kodi).
The reason why is that while the Shield Tablet can pass the signal, it's the media player app implementation and Android features they're using which don't pass the audio above 2.0 stereo unless they see hardware capable of other audio formats.

FYI, Nexus Player on Oreo rom does support LDAC bluetooth codec

Got my Sony WH-1000XM2 headphone today. After connecting, I can see bluetooth codec being LDAC in Sony Headphones Connect app, which confirms Oreo rom does indeed support LDAC codec.
Even though I've heard Oreo added LDAC support before, I'm still amazed support for it is built into this 3-years-old Android TV device. Videos seem to play fine in Kodi, without noticeable latency.

Bad bluetooth audio quality when not using aptX (HD)

Hi there,
has anyone else quality issues with bluetooth audio? When not using aptX or aptX HD, music sounds like it only had a bitrate of 64kbps. Really bad. Tested this with two car stereos and a bluetooth speaker. However when listening to music with an aptX (HD) enabled device, it sounds perfectly fine. With my old LG G4 I didn't have these problems using the same devices.
I also tried changing bluetooth settings in developer options, but that didn't change anything.
I'm currently on TW 1.24.709.7
Greetings

Can't change bluetooth codec to aptx?

So I bought a new earphone that supports aptx and paired it with my mi note 10 then I saw that it's in SBC mode which is kinda weird so I tried to change the bluetooth codec in developers option to APTX but it's reverting back to SBC. Any solutions?
you can change in developer option.

AptX/AptX HD Codecs

I'm not a developer or a modder, but I was hoping someone could help with some information, since I was steered here on a search.
I have a Moto Z play running Oreo, which I discovered has the ability to use AptX HD in the Developer Options. When I would try and select AptX or AptX HD in the options, it would just revert back to SBC. I believe I discovered that the phone's system automatically chooses the Bluetooth Codec, depending on the connected device.
I just got a Bluetooth receiver to integrate with my home stereo. The Bluetooth receiver can handle AptX HD, and has indicator lights for what it is receiving.
I played around a bit with the setup using the Amazon Music App as the source on my phone. The indicator on the receiver had AptX lit up. I went to Developer Options on my phone and it showed AptX was the Codec. However, if I ticked the AptX HD in the Developer Options on my phone, it continued in AptX.
Can someone explain why the phone will not transmit with AptX HD? Is it because that is the highest rate Amazon Music App supports? If I use a different music player app on my phone will I be able to utilize the AptX HD Codec?
Thanks for the info. I like learning and I'm hoping to be able to get the best quality sound to my HiFi through Bluetooth.
