after recent upgrades, more and more of my icons get rounded on the home screen(s).
I would prefer them to remain square-shaped, because that gives me more visual clues about the application. When rounded to a bare circle, apps can be confused with each other. The extra surface of the squares carries more colour, more texture, making apps more easy to recognise at a glance.
Is there any way to keep the icons square shaped ?

hi ppl.
i want to know how to remove a coloured bar that displays on the homescren by default. i am attaching a screenshot of my homescreen for your reference. the bar displays where 'Hutch' is written i.e. where teh operator name shows.
secondly, is there any way to make the top and bottom bars transparent so that any image covers the entire screen, but retains the icons n text (eg. edge icon, contacts field, start menu etc?)
anyone ?
You need to modify that theme. Upload it and I'll do it. It's located under ApplicationData\Home\xxx.scheme.xml
thanks pal. i am attaching the 'simple home' xml and a screenshot of same.
i would like the following things to be edited:
1. no top n bottom colour bars (should be transparent to take colour of any picture i put as wall paper)
2. no colour bar where it says 'Hutch' (operator) - same effect as point one.
3. Would it be possible to reduce the font sizes too ?
thank you for your precious time and patience.
Here you go.
Oh, it is not possible to remove the bottom.
@frauhottelmann
yeehaw !!! thanks a ton pal. the home screen looks real cool.
don't want to overstay my welcome but is there anyway to keep changing the lower bar colour ?
theres a software called base hue express. that changes the bottom bar colour. but i dont think it can make it transparent.
In home screen settings you can choose Color schemes (only basic colors) otherwise you would have to modify the theme again!
I'm currently trying to theme the rounded lists found in apps like HTC Mail and People. From what I found, there's a transparent "mask" that makes up the top and bottom graphics -- it's basically what makes it round. The graphic is mostly transparent and only blocks out the corners to make them round. What I want to know is if the part that sits under that (meaning in actual use when the app is running) a simple white graphic file or a color setting found somewhere in some XML file.
It's weird because items towards the middle of a rounded list do have a graphic file (it's just a 1x1 white square) that makes up it's background. So I can make items in the middle of the list look good but that leaves the top and bottom (or if there's only 1-2 items on the list, the entire list) as simple white.
I really hope that theres a graphic I'm missing or else the lists are just gonna' have to stay simple and uninteresting.
I think I might know what you're talking about but I'm not sure. Can you post a screenshot to reference?
Check out THIS THREAD. The corners are square in the screenshot because he had the wrong png's in there, the 2.2 message boxes do have rounded corners. If that's what you're talking about then check rujelo's post.
If you like customizing your Android smartphone or tablet, then along with changing your wallpaper, using a custom icon pack is one of the easiest ways to give your device a fresh new look.
Here are the top new and updated icon packs right now available on google play.
Black Light
Okay, we don't know who in their rightful mind would use this one as a daily driver, but one thing is certain - this icon pack is a thoughtfully made one.
Minimal Colors
Just as you might imply from its name, Minimal Colors is a simplistic but quite attractive icon pack that employs neat color palette. All of the icons are circular, which is quite trendy these days.
Mation
With Mation, you get over 1,000 icons at your disposal. All of these are excellent ones, subjectively speaking. There's also a host of cloud-based wallpapers, dynamic calendar icons, and an icon request tool.
Mambo
Over 800 faded icons will be at your disposal if you cave in and shell out one dollar for Mambo. It supports 26 launchers as well as live wallpaper app extraordinaire Muzei. A great find!
Graby
There are some 1,850 icons in Graby. All of these are round-shaped and will fit any home screen that's emphasizing on this design philosophy.

Hello,
I'm trying to theme the new search bar that's on top of settings panel but not sure how. Would like to either make it flat so it can blend with the background or with rounded corners with grayish background.
I upgraded to the Pixel 2 from my LG G6, and the only thing I miss are the rounded corners. They make the OS feel much more inviting and modern in my opinion. I'm using one of the apps on the Play Store right now, and on the launcher and in most apps it works fine. However, it doesn't work on the lockscreen and notification shade (obviously), and when in landscape only the top 2 corners are rounded.
I was wondering, is there a way to get rounded corners on a system level, so that all elements are always rounded? Something like an Xposed module or a feature in a custom ROM? I've been searching for a while but haven't found anything, the only results are for apps but those are too inconsistent like I said above.
I use substratum and the Pitch Black theme. There you got an option to set the rounded corners...
