Suggest a rom? - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
My Z5 thermal throttles, and gets uncomfortably hot. However I like the look and feel of the stock ROM on my Z5.
So I was wondering, could I have the best of both worlds?
A ROM that keeps my phone cool without losing to much performance, while keeping the stock "feeling": stock Sony apps, and the UI.
Many thanks
-MegaBytesMe

This custom rom seems to be very popular among those who don't want to use AOSP but want a more customised experience: LINK
Paired with it, you can use FSC to have better performance whilst keeping your phone cooler: LINK
A custom kernel and config might help with heat too.

I had a look and I thought: could I flash GlassCannon and fsc on my phone without installing a ROM?

Most certainly! So long as you have twrp and root you can use the glasscannon governor profile and fsc on the stock rom.

There is several guides on how to unlock your bootloader and flash twrp, Here's one from a quick search, also includes DRM key backup. Rooting is as simple as flashing magisk (or prefered alternative) via twrp.

Hi.
I tried the guide you sent, and I got through most of it until the Bootloader Unlock.
I entered *#*#7378423#*#* and looked at my bootloader state. It was Bootloader Unlock allowed: no.
I had a look on the xda forums and it appears that I won't be able to unlock my Bootloader.
Is there anything I can do?
Also it was bought straight from sony, not through a carrier.
Many thanks,

Crap man that sucks. I've heard from others that with some special tricks you can unlock your bootloader but unfortunately I don't have any information that can help you.

is there a way around that? like any way I can get a custom kernel? this phone sucks but full root would make it barable

I guess root exploits only go so far too.

all sonys bootloaders are locked to protect their DRM keys. these are security keys for their media apps like track ID and facebook inside Xperia. sony offer a bootloader unlock service but the process deletes the DRM keys. if you have a branded phone their is an extra lock on the bootloader from the network carrier to protect the simlock certificate this can not be hacked as of yet. to make your device faster root delete unneeded system apps and install the V6 SuperCharger and KickAss Kerneliser scripts by Zepplinrox i made an easy to use guid in general section search and find it. [Q] [Correct Forum?]Some Questions About This Phone

I will be getting a Sony Xperia E from Immix (with a SIM Card), and I am wondering if I am in the correct section of the forums. I have a few questions, since I had an HTC One V before, about the current status of this phone:
Has this phone been S-Off'd yet?
If not, is TWRP at least released for this phone?
I think that's it. I'll update with more questions as I get them
Thanks in advance,

S-OFF (unlock bootloader) in Sony terms is can be done by visit http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow the instructions. make sure you test by enter *#*#7378423#*#* on dialer and then, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
dunno if someone already build TWRP for Xperia E, but there is CWM for Xperia E

Sorry, in [HTC One V] terms, S-Off not only requires the bootloader to already be unlocked, but then you can also edit the boot, radio and other partitions that are still locked while the bootloader is unlocked.
And that phone number is very helpful, thanks! I'll have to test it Wednesday, when my phone is supposed to arrive
And about building TWRP, I'll do it. I've built several pieces of software for my previous phone, aaaaand I hope it's the same process LOL

You've had a One V? Cool, there's one in the family, still stock, of course.
I think the radio and stuff can be changed even when the bootloader is locked , using Flashtool to flash the firmwares in flash mode. [citation needed] At least the baseband can be changed easily, probably other stuff too.
TWRP has been built for CM10 (actually it's a dual recovery; both CWM and TWRP) by hsr0. Others have been built too, but since our phones have no recovery image, the recovery has to be built into the kernel, and this is the most stable CM10 kernel, I recommend this one. Not sure if there's a stock TWRP, though.

LOL, no. I've just started my first project, and hardly anybody here knows what it is.
Before unlocking your phone's bootloader, be sure to root it (many guides to root it with a locked bootloader here) and backup the TA partition: this partition has some DRM keys that are removed once you unlock the bootloader. I'm not sure what they do, but you can check whether the DRM keys are there or not, so if you take it to Sony, you can reflash TA, unroot, and they'll honour the warranty.

And also make sure, you've got a few ftf files.
In case you want to know in HTC terms: FTFs are like RUUs, but safer to flash - so much that we've been using Xperia E dual's FTF files on the Xperia E single.

[Q] Bootunlocker / locker on the fly after oem unlock

Hello,
On the Nexus, there is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker that allow to lock/unlock on the fly the bootloader. Is there an equivalent app on the OnePlus One ?
Edit: Support of the OPO in the app added on 09/01/2015.
Why? There's no point in having the bootloader locked on this device.

Well if you want me to justify, I will say it this way : think about what you can do when the device is unlocked, now what if your device is stollen...
If phone is stolen with bootloader locked, the thief can still unlock and do everything as per normal lol. Only thing is your info will be wiped. Which probably doesn't matter to thief anyways. But no I have seen such app for this phone

So take better care of your phone. It's a moot point anyway because anybody who steals your phone who actually knows what to do with an unlocked device will equally know how to unlock that device anyway. They steal the phone, see bootloader is locked, unlock bootloader with a single fastboot command, have their way with your phone. Which brings me back to my initial statement, the only thing you can do is take better care of your device. Honestly, I have no idea how people get their phones stolen, it simply means they're not taking enough care with it.

That's not necessarily true, as after the oneplus has been unlocked once it's possible to unlock it again without wiping userdata - if you have a custom recovery installed any way.
But to provide an answer to your question, the closest I've seen is if you install AK kernel with UKM the kernel settings app (Synapse) has an option to toggle the bootloader lock status as well as the tamper flag status.
Of course that was the scenario if you put back the original recovery.
Thanks for AK Kernel suggestion, I will have a look.

Hello @Lanchon, the case you describe in your point 2) is exactly what I had on my Nexus 4.
That's what I was looking for a on the fly bootlocker/unlocker in combination of putting only the custom recovery when needing to flash something.
I will also follow your thread.

Fair enough, you could try it and if it works install titanium backup and backup your apps. Then it would be slightly less hassle to unlock the bootloader. I'm not so sure of the outcome if it doesn't work properly or go wrong, but worse case scenario you may need to wipe to sort your phone out anyway.
I know man, I know
I was simply hoping to find anyone who had already used to get some feedback: I really have no time to restart from zero on the phone, in case anything goes wrong with titanium, helium or anything else.
In addition, my phone works like a charm, have no issues at all: I'd rather not touch it

What about using fastboot to root? You dont need to unlock and wipe, see the below posts and thread for info. Safer than using an 'exploit'.

King doesn't work. The only way to root is by unlocking the bootloader. It's best to research a phone when you're buying it, then you'd just unlock the bootloader before committing data to the device.

At least it can take pictures, only the preview is black :silly:
Due to the lack of pie support of the pay solution at the moment, you can downgrade your phone to OREO, install the solution, take a picture and upgrade your phone to PIE again.
You need newflasher v13 from XDA and the stock Oreo ROM I uploaded in the TWRP thread.
And a downgrade requires factory reset.
Because of the encryption.
Feel free to ask for help.

You need newflasher v13 from XDA and the stock Oreo ROM I uploaded in the TWRP thread.
And a downgrade requires factory reset.
Because of the encryption.
Feel free to ask for help.

So I have to flash the previous version on mobile, run the fixer, and install again pie?

And use it a single time in OREO to take a picture.
And you need to backup your userdata before downgrading to Oreo.

Even with magisk hide?
You need magisk (it gives you root) to boot the phone after the twrp installation, because of Android Verified Boot 2.0

Go into my TWRP thread and install TWRP and magisk.
Root your phone, backup your apps with Titanium Backup
Downgrade to the Oreo firmware I uploaded there, use xperifix as DRMfix.
Boot into Oreo, use the camera to take one shot.
Upgrade to PIE and reinstall your apps with Titanium Backup.
Titanium Backup and xperifix costs some €/$
Then wait for xperifix PIE release to get your 100% photo quality back.

I saw your thread, if it's the only solution I'll try it after. I am under Win7 and xperifix is running under win8 and 10. Thanks for responding

It should run under win 7 too
You're welcome
And a DRMfix reactivates every function back, like you never unlocked it.
