Return to ICS (11.0.A.7.5) --> root with UnlockRoot --> use OTA update to JB.

If you have JB and flash ICS ftf you need to wipe data, otherwise the phone will not boot...

service menu says boot loader unlock allowed. NO.
is there a way around that? like any way I can get a custom kernel? this phone sucks but full root would make it barable

OK thanks. why are some bootloaders locked and others not? this is just a bandaid device. but even typing is lagged. its horrible that this low spec device exists.
I guess root exploits only go so far too.

all sonys bootloaders are locked to protect their DRM keys. these are security keys for their media apps like track ID and facebook inside Xperia. sony offer a bootloader unlock service but the process deletes the DRM keys. if you have a branded phone their is an extra lock on the bootloader from the network carrier to protect the simlock certificate this can not be hacked as of yet. to make your device faster root delete unneeded system apps and install the V6 SuperCharger and KickAss Kerneliser scripts by Zepplinrox i made an easy to use guid in general section search and find it. If thats to intimidating for you then install my AVD Rom which is pre supercharged with all the best options chosen

[GUIDE] Root your I9003 with ease - Unlockroot

The info is obtained from unlockroot.com which has the software to easily root or unroot your phone.
If you have rooted your phone and wanted to send for servicing, please use this software to unroot before sending else warranty is void.
Q: Why root?
A: It is like jailbreak in iPhone where you can have root access of your phone. With root access, you can modify system files to delete bloating default software such as latitude, samsung apps etc. There are many advantages such as you can also install app like Adfree which filter all advertisements while you are browsing the web. You can also move apps into SDcard or enable wifi or bluetooth tethering.
Q: Will my warranty be void if I root?
A: Yes. Your warranty will be void if you root your phone. However, using the same software, you can unroot when desired to get back your warranty. So there is no risk at all. Just remember to unroot it before you send for servicing.
Q: Are my phone rootable?
A: Check if your phone is listed in this proven list. The good news is Samsung Galaxy SL (I9003) is under the proven list.
Q: What is the procedure?
A: First, your phone must be unmodified in stock condition else rooting may fail. Next, you must also enable USB Debugging mode before connecting to the computer. It is so simple.
Q: Can I unroot?
Yes, following the same procedure, click "unroot" to get back to the stock condition.
Visit and download the app HERE.

well, rooting is universal and standard.
if you have no intention of flashing cROM, rooting is great on top of stock rom. else, cf-root is necessary to install cROM.

thats obvious since most crom are converted into ext4 and cf-root is required for ext4 partition support and also for recovery to flash the crom!!

Here comes a silly question,[I'm a noob at this stuff]
What does bootloader have to do with root?
If I root my mobile does it risk the warranty[or has it something to do with bootloader?]
Unlock bootloader allows you to flash custom kernels (fxp, overclock, or other things)
Unlock bootloader immediately voids your warranty (remember you gave sony your imei) but root voids warranty (if you take the phone to sony for repair and they saw superuser). So if you just do root, just use pc companion / update service before going to sony for repair.

No. If you do mess up, just repair it using official means (pc companion / update service). That is why im still on locked bootloader. I like to play safe until my warranty is over (2 years).

yes right...
but for me, i can't handle my moods for flash n flash...

Another silly question,is a back up required? if yes,how do I setup a backup?
Backup? If your unrooted, you can backup .apk using app backup (note the location of backup), phonebook & messages via google sync, media files via file manager. Then put those in pc. I like to start clean, both phone & microsd every time I want to flash rom, to avoid complications / errors.

you've got a trouble with Font changer...
many devices (android 2.3.x n above) that'd softbricked by its app...
why not use Font installer...
okay, you have to learn how to use ADB with CMD Commands...
which font you has changed? i will send you the original one, then you can push it via ADB...
it's the only way you can do if you don't want to unlock your bootloader...

[Q] [Correct Forum?]Some Questions About This Phone

I will be getting a Sony Xperia E from Immix (with a SIM Card), and I am wondering if I am in the correct section of the forums. I have a few questions, since I had an HTC One V before, about the current status of this phone:
Has this phone been S-Off'd yet?
If not, is TWRP at least released for this phone?
I think that's it. I'll update with more questions as I get them
Thanks in advance,

S-OFF (unlock bootloader) in Sony terms is can be done by visit http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow the instructions. make sure you test by enter *#*#7378423#*#* on dialer and then, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
dunno if someone already build TWRP for Xperia E, but there is CWM for Xperia E

Sorry, in [HTC One V] terms, S-Off not only requires the bootloader to already be unlocked, but then you can also edit the boot, radio and other partitions that are still locked while the bootloader is unlocked.
And that phone number is very helpful, thanks! I'll have to test it Wednesday, when my phone is supposed to arrive
And about building TWRP, I'll do it. I've built several pieces of software for my previous phone, aaaaand I hope it's the same process LOL

You've had a One V? Cool, there's one in the family, still stock, of course.
I think the radio and stuff can be changed even when the bootloader is locked , using Flashtool to flash the firmwares in flash mode. [citation needed] At least the baseband can be changed easily, probably other stuff too.
TWRP has been built for CM10 (actually it's a dual recovery; both CWM and TWRP) by hsr0. Others have been built too, but since our phones have no recovery image, the recovery has to be built into the kernel, and this is the most stable CM10 kernel, I recommend this one. Not sure if there's a stock TWRP, though.

LOL, no. I've just started my first project, and hardly anybody here knows what it is.
Before unlocking your phone's bootloader, be sure to root it (many guides to root it with a locked bootloader here) and backup the TA partition: this partition has some DRM keys that are removed once you unlock the bootloader. I'm not sure what they do, but you can check whether the DRM keys are there or not, so if you take it to Sony, you can reflash TA, unroot, and they'll honour the warranty.

And also make sure, you've got a few ftf files.
In case you want to know in HTC terms: FTFs are like RUUs, but safer to flash - so much that we've been using Xperia E dual's FTF files on the Xperia E single.

It is reversible using flashtool
However, it still will not restore TA partition so it can be seen if you have unlocked.
The only way to completely reset to factory conditions is to restore a TA backup, but the only way to get that is to root before unlocking

I do not want to talk about warranty's.
All I am saying is that in order to restore your phone to factory settings you need a stock TA partition. To restore a stock TA partition after unlocking the bootloader you need a backup of a TA partition taken from your phone. In order to make that backup you need root.

Again, as said numerous times in this thread, if you could be bothered to read the links or a quick read of the forum you'd know.
In my opinion, if you want to "mod" a phone, get a Nexus or a HTC One M8. Sony phones going all the way back to Xperia X10 are rubbish with custom Roms and "mods"
Right now, you cannot return completely to stock.

Suggest a rom?

Hi.
My Z5 thermal throttles, and gets uncomfortably hot. However I like the look and feel of the stock ROM on my Z5.
So I was wondering, could I have the best of both worlds?
A ROM that keeps my phone cool without losing to much performance, while keeping the stock "feeling": stock Sony apps, and the UI.
Many thanks
-MegaBytesMe
This custom rom seems to be very popular among those who don't want to use AOSP but want a more customised experience: LINK
Paired with it, you can use FSC to have better performance whilst keeping your phone cooler: LINK
A custom kernel and config might help with heat too.

I had a look and I thought: could I flash GlassCannon and fsc on my phone without installing a ROM?
Many thanks,

Most certainly! So long as you have twrp and root you can use the glasscannon governor profile and fsc on the stock rom.

There is several guides on how to unlock your bootloader and flash twrp, Here's one from a quick search, also includes DRM key backup. Rooting is as simple as flashing magisk (or prefered alternative) via twrp.

Hi.
I tried the guide you sent, and I got through most of it until the Bootloader Unlock.
I entered *#*#7378423#*#* and looked at my bootloader state. It was Bootloader Unlock allowed: no.
I had a look on the xda forums and it appears that I won't be able to unlock my Bootloader.
Is there anything I can do?
Also it was bought straight from sony, not through a carrier.
Many thanks,

Crap man that sucks. I've heard from others that with some special tricks you can unlock your bootloader but unfortunately I don't have any information that can help you.
