Flashing zip files from firmware finder - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

I'm using the indian variant of Honor 8, haven't yet recieved oreo but i wanted to install whatever the latest emui version is available through firmware finder. When downloading from firmware finder around 2-3 months ago i had to download two zips mainly update.zip and region zip. I installed them randomly without any order and i get stock back whenever i wanted. now i want to do this process again but firmware finder says there are three zips to download instead of two. The addition zip is called public zip.
What am i supposed to do? do i have to install it, or can i skip it.
If yes to intall then what would be right order?
PLEASE HELP

1. Oreo ain't worth it.
2. Just flash the main update.zip and then the data.zip and the other one.

Don't getting update to B560 again

My Mate 8 L29 is currently on C432B192 again. I said 'again', because I was already three or four times on EMUI 5. (I tried to root it but it failed Everytime, so I had to rollback)
Yesterday I wanted to try again to root B560 and began to search for the update, but - nothing. I tried it via update app , HiCare app and HiSuite on PC. I don't get the update offered. (I also deleted data and cache of those apps)
I'm currently rooted, so I tried to unroot, install stock boot image and recovery .. but same problem: still not getting the update.
Now I'm wondering why this is happening .. I had that same case before (B192, rooted etc.) and I always got that update offered.
Does anyone have a solution for this ? ( Except the manually method via TWRP .. this was never working for me)
Thank you for your help!

You need rollback package to get it back to normal.
Since your model is L29 & you are nougat.
Go to this site http://consumer.huawei.com/sg/support/products/downloads/detail/mate-8-sg.htm?id=91647
Download the file
Extract the update.app
Make a folder on your sdcard and name it as dload
put this update.app in that sdcard
now you do the dload method
you can do it two ways
one way is
the 3 finger rule while bootup
just press volume + volume - power button together and hold until you see EMUI verifying package
then release your fingers
it will rollback to marshmallow
now you have to update it to another stock firmware (marshmallow)
remember at this point it is in global firmware it might show build number as C900 or something.
you can check it in the settings - about -> build number
you have to then update it to your model firmware
L29C185BXX
I found the stock firmware from another thread for your model
This is L29C185B200
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1076/g104/v65326/f1/full/update.zip
once again
download the file,
extract the update.app &
then put the update.app in dload folder on your sdcard
and then do dload method.
second way of dload is
open dialer
type *#*#2846579#*#*
click on "software upgrade"
and then -> SDcard upgrade
follow the instructions on the screen
and it will finish the dload method in next few minutes.
That's it. now you will be on Stock ROM with fully functional OS.
after this you will either get OTA updates or you can download using HiCare
or you can download the stock firmware from another thread
or
you can use firmware finder to get stock firmware for your phone. Get the latest version.
If you finish all these steps then I will tell you how to get to nougat if you have any trouble
Hope you find this information useful.

You are rooted & if I read correctly you also have TWRP installed.
If you are unlocked, rooted & have TWRP - then you can install custom roms.
but if you want stock roms, - you need Stock ROM, Stock Recovery, Locked bootloader.
First you need the rollback package from EMUI4.1 to EMI 4.0 for L29C432 is below
https://www.hidrive.strato.com/lnk/0mlDFqqy
Rollback package for L29 to downgrade from EMUI 5.0 to EMUI 4.0 marshmallow is
http://consumer.huawei.com/sg/support/products/downloads/detail/mate-8-sg.htm?id=91647
So choose the right version based on the firmware you are having on your phone. If you have nougat choose the second link and if you have any other version then choose the first link.
Download the file, extract the update.app
then you have to do dload method
create a folder named dload and put update.app in sd card
then
go to dialer
press *#*#2846579#*#*
select
sdcard upgrade
and then say yes
that's it
you will come back to stock (global) version. build version will be C900BXX
now you need stock firmware for L29C432
you can download the stock firmware from here. Below tis the link for L29C432B180
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1076/g104/v51244/f1/full/update.zip
Stock firmware for L29C432B192
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1076/g104/v63059/f1/full/update.zip
Here you have the option to either go for L29C432B180 or L29C432B192. (if you choose B192, then you will save time and reduce few steps, because you will get system update to B560 immediately once you change the region to Ireland in Hicare app)
do the dload method again
extract the file, put the file in dload folder in sdcard ,
either use dialer or use 3 button rule to finish the dload process
now you are on L29C432B180. / L29C432B192
From here you can use another dload method to go to B192 - > system update (OTA) -> B560 or B580
if you get a blank screen - > do factory reset
if you get "verification failed " in red color - > unlock bootloader again and proceed with the steps.
This rollback package will save you in case of any problems.
Once you go to nougat B560
you can update to Kangvip B577 - pre rooted rom - its awesome - Root stable , excellent battery lfie. - everything is working perfectly.
I will give you those steps and links if you succeed in getting to B560 after all these steps.
I am sorry that this is a very long post and many steps but I can assure you that it is worth.
Ultimately you will get to nougat & with full root using Kangvip B577.
Hope you succeed

[GUIDE] Upgrade from EMUI 4.1/Android 6.0 to latest firmware

It took me 2 full days to finally successfully upgraded my ancient firmware (L09C16B170) to the updated version (L09C432B397). There are a lot pieces of information that I gathered from this forum and all over the internet that collectively helped me navigate this ordeal. Just want to share it with anyone who is in the same boat, although I know that P9 won't last for too long since P10 has been out for a while. However, if you still want to revive your P9, keep reading.
Requirement
Before reading, you need to understand ways of entering different modes of your P9 phone, which will be used many many times during your upgrade:
Enter recovery mode (also how you enter TWRP) - see this GUIDE
Enter fastboot mode - see this GUIDE
Enter manual upgrade mode (also called dload method; This is NOT TWRP method) - see this GUIDE. Please IGNORE any software or download information in this guide. I want you to refer to this guide for how to do it, NOT what to use or download!
You also need to download and know how to use ADB tool which is quite simple. Search the forum or google and you will find plenty of information and the download links. If you hate command lines, you can even use the GUI version from here.
You will probably also need to use Firmware Finder for Huawei (HWFF) to download firmware of interest for manual update during this process. HWFF is an app that can be installed for free via your phone Google Play Store. The downloaded firmware is saved under the HWFF folder in the internal memory. You might need to unzip these files for upgrade via dload method or directly via TWRP method without unzipping. However TWRP method requires you to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP in the phone (see below for details).
First step - debranding
If you are already on C432xxxx, you might just skip this step. I followed this thread partially (Debranding Guide by Z-Blade), since the whole thing doesn't work for me 100%.
Z-Blade did a fantastic job describing how to debrand his C34 firmware to C342B361. My original version is C16B170 which is a South Africa branded firmware. But I found certain steps in this guide could be omitted and certain steps didn't work in my case. Here is my modified version based on Z-Blade's version:
1. Unlock your bootloader and install TWRP
How to unlock bootloader? Follow this GUIDE. Even though it's for Huawei Ascend XT. It works for P9 as well. You only need to complete Part 1.
After you unlock the bootloader, install TWRP. Depending on which firmware version you're on, the version of TWRP that might work for your device changes. I encountered numerous booting loops due to incorrect version of TWRP. Finally I found that these three versions work for me (3.1.0-0, 3.1.1-0, 3.1.1-1). Always go with the highest version first (3.1.1-1). If you find yourself stuck in the booting screen, long press your power button until you get out of it and install another version of TWRP. Please go to TWRP official website to download TWRP for Huawei P9. Follow this GUIDE to install TWRP recovery on your phone.
2. Flash OEM info file for C432
After you unlock the bootloader and install TWRP recovery, download oeminfo-huawei-p9-eval09-c432.zip from this THREAD and flash it via TWRP method.
3. Flash C432B136 firmware
Download and flash the dload-huawei-p9-eval09-eva-b136.zip via dload method from this thread. After flashing and rebooting your phone, you should be on the L09C432B136 firmware. NOTE: If it boots up to a white screen asking you to enter password, reboot into recovery by holding volume up when you powering up your phone, do a wipe partition and factory reset. You may need to reboot your phone a number times before the phone boots up correctly.
Up to this stage, you have debranded your phone to an european version.
Second step - stepwise firmware upgrade
1. Update from B136 to B166 or B182
As mentioned in Z-Blade's original post, many people will not be able to directly update from B136 to B182. I am one of them. Go into the updater in the phone setting, refresh "check for update". If you can receive B182 update, by all means go for it. If you only receive B166 update, go for it as well. After B166 update and rebooting your phone, check updater again to see if you receive B182 update in the Settings menu. If this method does not work, manually update to B182 by following the steps here via dload method.
2. Update firmware from B182 to B360/361/378 and also upgrade OS from Android 6.0/EMUI 4.1.x to Android 7.0/EMUI 5.0
According to Z-Blade, "After your phone has rebooted and you are on the B182 firmware, you need to now update the firmware to B361 via Huawei Updater 2.0". However, in my case, I tried many times and always failed at this step. I found a workaround by updating to B360 instead of B361. Please follow this GUIDE to update to B360 or B361, whichever works for you. However, please pay attention to following change that I found critical:
- The version of Huawei HiSuite is critical for the success in this step. The GUIDE provided Hisuite download link (version 5.0.0.301_OVE). However, it does not work together with Huawei Updater 2.0 in my hands. This error has wasted me almost half day. Instead, I finally found out the problem and went to HERE to download the version 5.0.1.300 and it finally worked
- However, if even after HiSuite and Updater both work together fine the update does not proceed successfully (the updater might get stuck), you need to update it manually via dload method. Search EVA-L09C432B360 or EVA-L09C432B361 in Firmware Finder for Huawei as mentioned above and download the Full-OTA version (~2G). After download, move the corresponding folder containing firmware zip files under "HWFF" folder in the internal memory to the external SD card. Unzip the firmware file and update your phone using dload method. You may also try TWRP method which can install zip files directly, but at this point, you bootloader will be re-locked and TWRP will be gone. You need to unlock the bootloader and re-install TWRP again as mentioned above.
After you successfully update the firmware to B360 or B361, now you should have Android 7.0 and EMUI 5.0 on your phone. Now go to the updater in your phone setting. You should receive B378 OTA update. Proceed with the update...
You might not need to strictly follow following steps to update your phone to any firmware beyond B378. However, since a lot of new ROMs are based on B380+ or even B390+, if you want to use those, you might need to further update your firmware first.
2. Update firmware from B378 to B383
After updating to B378 and rebooting your phone, check if your phone receives B383 update OTA. If yes, proceed. If not, go to HWFF, download B383 Full-OTA firmware and update via either dload or TWRP method.
3. Update firmware from B383 to whatever later version
After successfully updating your phone to B383, you basically can flash your phone with anything firmware and ROMs built on B380+. I find it unnecessary to update to B386. What I did was that I directly updated from B383 to B394 by following this GUIDE. Since I wanted to try BlueWei 5.7 which is based off B397, I also followed the same guide to update my firmware to B397 before flashing BlueWei ROM.
Now please enjoy all kinds of new ROMs and the fast, revived P9. After this update, my P9 is super smooth (the original firmware and OS was utterly slow and sluggish) and I think I will keep using this phone until it really can't keep up with the hardware requirement of new apps etc.
Hope my guide is helpful!
Nice job to update things and summarize all together. Few comments, though
- Not necessary to go back to c432 b136, to b182 is enough:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72153575&postcount=2
- For Nougat, please use Huawei P9 Nougat TWRP:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/twrp-t3565703
- For DLOAD method, FullOTA-MF-PV versions should be used
- Besides the two methods listed to initiate DLOAD update, there is also a third one:
'Dial': *#*#2846579#*#*
Project Menu will open, select Software Update

Upgrade form B394 to B402/403

Hello guys,
long story short, I had the notification that a new update was released for my honor 8 FRD-L09C432 (B403, I was on B402), so, since I was rooted and with TWRP installed, I decided to unroot and install the original eRecovery.
Something went wrong and the system was damaged, so I flashed the B360 version first and after the B394. Now the phone is working really good but I can't install the new versions (B402 or 403). I tried:
flash the update from TWRP, not working
search the update from the dedicated option in the settings, no update found
tried to have it from the original eRecovery, error to find the info from the server.
tried also to update from the version B394 before unlock the bootloader, but it failed.
Am I missing something?
Use the get update through DNS thing in FF. It worked for me at least. Make sure the firmware is approved.

Hi Days Tech, could you please explain better what do you mean? Is there a link of some tut that I can follow?
Thanks!
Ok now I have the point, thanks for this tip!:good:
Flash TWRP.
use data.zip file and flash it via TWRP. (only download from FullOTA-MF PV file)
reboot and you are done. you will have updater in settings.
now you can flash the update.zip file via dload.

I've been running on version 163 since last Friday (SHT-AL09). No differences between versions 151 and 163 that I have noticed other than the security update. Battery life, screen response, etc. are all about the same. My tablet is running smooth with no issues other than the well documented issues known with Huawei phones/tablets (e.g. Bluetooth and WiFi)
@Butch1326: Did you get the firmware OTA? I downloaded this firmware again and made a try to update manyally but it give me a error, tried once and give it a rest, I read the change log and thought I don't bother to even try update manually because this firmware don't include the Gpu turbo update, so I try to be patient ?and wait for the OTA update.
Edit:By the way you wrote that you have SHA-AL09 device?? Do you meen SHT-AL09?
Sorry about the typo. I meant to type SHT-AL09 as the model name of my tablet.
To install the firmware upgrade as an update (no data wipe) I followed the Tutorial 2 procedure documented from the site below. It worked like a charm.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/how-to/guide-manual-updgrade-to-update-oreo-t3758286
I downloaded the Full version of the SHT-AL09C432B163 (8.0.0.163) firmware since it was the only variant available at the time from the Huawei firmware download site. If you decide to use the OTA version instead which is now available for download please note the public ZIP file name is different in the OTA ZIP file download than the ZIP file name found in the Full version of the update.
The only change I made was to update the filename for one of the firmware ZIP files from update_SHT-AL09_hw_eu.zip to update_full_hw.zip.
I downloaded and extracted the RAR file mentioned in the procedure and included the three (3) firmware update ZIP files in the oreoupdate folder as instructed, copied the oreoupdate folder and its contents to the tablet, renamed the update_SHT-AL09_hw_eu.zip to update_full_hw.zip, and let the TWRP install do the rest. This procedure will install the stock recovery. You will need to rerun the magisk root and TWRP procedures.
For Magisk I used this patched_ramdisk procedure found below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m5/how-to/root-root-guide-huawei-mediapad-m5-t3786157
and this procedure to install TWRP

Mine updated OTA this evening to 163.

Thanks to this, i finally was able to install a official firmware (8.0.0.161) on my CMR-AL09C432.
I flashed a Chinese Firmware like a month ago (yes, me stupid...) and could recover from it by buying a Bootloader unlock and flashing 8.0.0.151.
It worked again but it felt buggy and clunky. Also i didnt got this OTA (161). Now i used you methode and got a full clean and fresh installed 161.
Thanks a lot!
New firmware 8.0.0.172 on HFF for SHT-AL09, no Gpu turbo yet, only Google security patch
I upgraded the firmware on my M5 SHT-AL09 from 163 to 172 using the same procedure as I previously outlined in post #4. I found out that this procedure only works with the full version of the firmware. I first tried running the OTA version. It failed at about 15% of the way through the install.
The only issue I am still investigating is the Magisk SafetyNet check. Granting apps root privilege is fine but the SafefyNet check is failing. I tried both versions 16.0 and 16.7. Other than that everything seems fine so far. I will post when I have any updates.

Honor 8 Software install failed!

Hey,
somehow my phone ( FRD-L09C636 ) doesn´t want to update by it self. So i tried to update it with the dload methode.
After going in the "secret menu" and try to install it from my sd card it stops after 5% and says:
Software install failed! Incompatibility with current version. Please download the correct update package
Click to collapse
Don´t work with the other methode ( rebooting phone and press vol up, down and power button ) either.
Tried to update from C636B130 to C636B360 and C636B389.
Downloaded both firmwares from Firmware Finder on my PC.
Hope you guys can help ^^.
Hello, did you try to update your phone via HiSuite software (computer)?
And for Firmware Finder firmwares, did you check if you can install them? (Check firmware access)
Going from B130 (Android 6.0) to B3xx (Android 7.0) firmware requires to flash FullOTA firmware.

Yes, already tried with HISuite .. it says my phone is up to date.
I´ve also checked, if the update is available for my phone. It´s alright.
So I need to flash it with ADB, like TWRP?
Greetings UStone
You don't need to use custom Recovery like TWRP to flash "FullOTA" firmware (approved for installation, of course). Use "dload" folder method to flash "UPDATE.APP" file from .zip files in this order (advised):
1) update.zip
2) update_full_xxxx_yyyy.zip ("xxxx" and "yyyy" = depending from hardware model/region)
3) update_data_full_public.zip
But you can use TWRP to flash a "FullOTA-PV" firmware (if available...) or use a recent method to flash any "FullOTA" firmware using TWRP (CAUTION!): HuRUpdater
Hi,
I am having the same issue as the OP.
I have and Honor 8 indian version (FRD-L02C675) and currently am in the B160. I'm trying to upgrade to the FRD-L02C675B330CUSTC675D003, and I have downloaded the FullOTA-MF from firmware finder, version 8757 and 87830, and used the dload method. For both versions I have the same message:
Software install failed! Incompatibility with current version. Please download the correct update package.
HISuite says my phone is up to date, the same as system update on the phone.
I've also checked if the update is available for my phone, and it is.
I am from Ecuador using a indian version, so I'm not going to be able to update OTA officially.
I appreciate all the help you can give me.
