android 5.0 is going to be last major update!

We all know that most android phone get supported for 18 month thats a year and a half making your devices almost getting to major updates , so our note 3 original came with 4.3 jellybean and receive (update 1) which is 4.4.2 kit-kat and will receive (update 2) which is 5.0 lollipop am talking about touchwiz am sure there will be newer rom but aosp based stock , we all saw early build of lollipop update in (note 3 9005) and seems also the exynos version may get it also ,
so this thread is about answering these questions?
do you think that samsung may keep supporting our note 3 after 5.0 lollipop released ?
are there going to be developers that can port next touchwiz android which is 6.0 or android m or newer than that ?
what do you feel about knowing that your device never supported ?
Most likely not. They're in the business to sell hardware not keep old hardware running.
I'm sure but by time 6.0, M or whatever comes out the Note 5 or 6 will most likely be out.
Doesn't matter. Technology advances, but when I had the original galaxy there were roms with the latest OS. from devs. It all goes back to...Samsung is in the business to sell hardware not OS updates.
Even if they do, by the time a new Android is released, I'll most likely have bought a new phone.
It will continue to get small upgrades, but it will not get any more major ones.
This is nothing new.
As long as there aosp roms i'm happy
touchwiz are the best

i prefer touchwiz based
What is bothering you so much? even it hasnt received 5.0 and who can tell what will be the next.
Samsung cant even answer your question bcoz this is ridiculous.
What can you do if 5.0 is the last update for Note 3?
This is wasting time.

1-what bothering me is that maybe newer features supported by a new version of android our note 3 not supported yet and i know we will never get that features ported to our note 3 so will be developers who can port a full android version like s3 which get kit-kat ported to international i9300 custom based rom.
2-i just try to guess maybe newer android is going to be android m or what ever will be
3-i don't care about there answer nor i asking them i ask developers here and owners of note 3 like me
4-emmm i will just stick to 5.0 and when new os came and my note never supported i think i will just came hear to see if they can do something like s3 done
Note 3 still kicks butt. I'll look forward to 5.0.
actually

Android N question

Hey guys,
Judging by how android M was provided to the S6, should we expect the same amount of time till S7 gets N (eg-mid next year) or could we possibly expect android N around or soon after when the Note 7 gets it ?
Please dont troll this thread, not interested in that if you dont like my questions just move along.
Thanks

Samsung said the Note 7 will get Android 7 in 3 months. I think our phonnes should get the official 7.0 fimware in early 2017. Luckily the N7's hardware is almost the same as the S7's hardware. So porting the N7 firmware shouldn't be impossible.

S6 or S7?

Hi,
I am looking into buying a S6 or S7 for my wife. I know the S7 is the newer version (duh) but future proofing also means having access to newer Android Versions. Afaik nougat is the last android update the S6 will receive while I am guessing that the S7 will also get Android O. That would leave me with installing a custom rom (on the S6) when O comes out. I tried having a look at the forums but I am not sure: Is it correct to say that the S7 is the better phone when it comes to custom roms?
Thanks for the help!
I have an S6 and Exynos = no custom/Aosp roms. I know they are very early stages of Aosp because Exynos will not release the source code. So getting a working version of Android O before it is officially released for S6 is a lot of work to get stable. I cant see that happening.
I have ordered my S7 but dont have any experience at the moment with it. I have seen AOSP on the S7 so that means there is a lot of development going on. Which for me is key when buying a new phone. Exchange, contribute, share and improve info.
So short answer is YES
LineageOS is out for both phones, but i'll bet some stuff still doesn't work. I would opt for the s7 mainly due to the bigger battery.

Android 9.0 Pie

maybe it's too early to ask or dumbest question, but any news for S7 getting next upgrade?
Android Oreo is last big update for S7.
ah that's sad. SD820/exynos + 4GB of ram is more than enough to running an android 9.
Unfortunately. The S9 is a crap phone. Ugly, and the horrible curved sides are stupid and interfere with proper case protection. Not even sure there's any variation of the S9 with unlocked an bootloader.
:/
The S7 Hardware is compatible with the Android Pie, the Snapdragon 820 (or Exynos 8890) run perfectly, but the Sammy don't want give the update.

Not any US variation, but the Exynos model is same as always with official TWRP support and ROM's.

So you're saying the Exynos S8 and S9 still have unlocked bootloaders? I swear I had read that that stopped being the case, but I'd welcome being wrong.

Yep, there's big development sections for both

The TWRP thread also has the same bootloader unlock steps, but reading it now it does mention apparently phones have a 7 day cool down before OEM unlock becomes possible.

The S7 flat was the last hardware Samsung did right in a phone. The Samsung experience is overblown. The curved screen is gimmick. The specs for S8 and S9 are not great for the $ compared to S7. I wouldn't hold my breath for anything awesome in Android 9, which will take a year to never. Until then, LOS 16 will become stable and bug free.
Have a good day.

No, that'd be the S5 which still had a removable battery and did it while still being water-resistant.

Same thoughts here... Good day to you too.
So, are we saying that the last update for the S7 was Android 8.0.0 (obvious), or are we saying that Samsung has proclaimed that there will be no Android 9 update to the S7 (not so obvious)?

i really hope the android pie will be the last for S7/Edge. but, the latest security patch i've got is 1st august, so i think there's no chance for S7/Edge to get the android pie. 2 year for major upgrade and 3/4 year for security patch (Quarterly not monthly).
November security patch
Nothing official but there is always lineage os or other custom roms.
Someone may end up porting pie touchwiz but probably not anytime soon

Ofcourse they won't give the update, they just want to sell new phones instead of keeping the old ones running.
Even the Google security patches takes really long time for them to push out, i waited 4 months on security patches even thou they are obligated to push them out within 90 days.

S8 Confirmed Not Getting Android 10 (Q)

Bad news everyone samsung have just released there official update schedule for android 10 and the S8 is not on the list so it looks like samsung are still only doing 2 years of version updates. Which is sad I use an S8 as my work phone and an s10 plus as my daily will not be getting the s12 enless they change how long they support there devices for.
Just wanted to know people's thoughts on this and get a discussion going.
I have attached screenshots from the update schedule in my samsung members app on my S10.
Strange .. I believe J7 Prime from 2016 still getting Q, which is 3 years old. It already got Pie.
It came with Marshmallow.
