Cannot set individual sync options in Google account? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Apologies if this the the wrong place for this. I had to reflash my phone after messing up the install with Xposed and set everything back up.
I use Google Inbox for my main email and Gmail for work and secondary account. Previously, I could set individual sync options within the account. Meaning, I could go into my main gmail account, and click an option to not sync Gmail and leave the option to sync Inbox.
Now, when I select my main account there are no options to enable/disable syncing.
I'm going to Settings > Cloud and accounts > Accounts > [my email address] > Sync account
Prior to having to reflash CRE4, the option to set the sync options individually were there.

I don't have the toggles like my wife has.

Found it. In case anyone else has this happen, go to the Gmail app, select the hamburger icon at top left, click Settings, select the account, then Settings and un-chech Sync Gmail.
Then the toggles appear as they should in Accounts after clicking Sync Account.
Absolutely stupid that this was required.

GMail Issues

I have 2 identical Fuzes, both have been upgraded to NATF's 2.2. One is working just fine, but one refuses to send email to a GMAIL account. I've checked the settings and it can get mail just fine, but can't send. Does anyone knoe of any problems with GMAIL and the Fuze?
For my Gmail account to send emails, I had to:
In the email tab, select accounts ->accounts -> Menu, Options -> select Gmail -> edit account setup-> next, next, next -? Advanced Server Settings -> Require SSL for Incomming and Outgoing email checked.
I think that should fix your issues, the "Auto configuration" got everything fine except for that settings...
double check the email account in question to see if pop3 access has been enabled, its in the gmail options (log in to your gmail account via pc and check it).
I had this problem yesterday and it could be the same.
Apparently there's a bug in WM6.1 that if the server doesn't answer once, it cycles to a blank server name. There's a fix out for it.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...2E-D2DD-44F2-86E5-1E53AAD7FB7A&displaylang=en
I orginally fixed the problem by deleting the account and re-making it but this is supposed to be a permanent fix.
Switching to SSL didn't help. I'm using IMAP vs POP but I'll check that.

[Q] Stock email app does not push or delete correctly

So I'm coming from a Samsung Fascinate, and so far I love this phone. However, the email app bugs the hell out of me. I have set up my Yahoo and Hotmail to sync through push. The emails sometimes do not come through for hours after they are received though. Additionally, deleting emails from my Fascinate used to delete them from the inbox on the server as well, so when I check through a browser, they will be gone. Now, this doesn't happen. A copy remains on the server, and I cannot find a setting ANYWHERE to disable that. Does anyone else notice this or have a fix?
Thanks
Just downloaded the respective Hotmail and Yahoo apps and they push immediately and correctly. Now I am trying to delete the email accounts from the stock email app, and it errors out. I tried removing them from accounts under settings and it says I have to completely wipe the phone as the accounts are being used by an app. What. The. Hell.
I think I have it figured out - it's in the setup of the email account and the server settings.
To set up a screenname / email address:
Main menu
Applications
Email
Menu
Accounts
Click add account
Select Others, not AOL
Enter email address and password
Here's the important part - choose the manual setup, not next. This will take you to incoming server settings. It should fill the settings automatically - IMAP / [email address]/ imap.aol.com / 143 / None
Hit next.
This is the outgoing server settings - again, auto filled - smtp.aol.com / 587 / None
Hit next. Then you customize the sync settings, name the account, choose your display name, and then hit Done. In Email, you can tailor signature settings, etc.
The key is the manual setup and having incoming and outgoing settings right - this fixes the trash syncing, allows folders to be displayed, etc.
Hope this helps

[Q] can't sync gmail. its stuck. after deleting and adding the account again

There is a sync error after i removed ny gmail account. I lost all the contacts but managed to get the back somehow but adding the account just isnt happening. Playstore works fine but my gmail isnt responding. I waited for 2 days and its still the same. It says 'sync is experiencing problems'
Did you go to Settings > Accounts > Add account or just on gmail app to add your account ? If yes, check if everything is checked on Accounts > Google > Your email. On the Gmail app, check if Settings > Your email > Sync Gmail is checked. You can also force the refresh from gmail app Settings up right corner in the mailbox > Refresh or from the general android account settings Google > Settings up right corner > Sync now.
Nothing i do seems to work. Removed the account quite a few times and added it again. It always shows sync is experiencing issues

Idol 3 contact back up..

So i just got the alcatel idol 3 last Wensday and had to manualy enter all of my contacts in, how do i back them all up to my google account so i dont have to enter them all in next time ?
Is there any good tip/tricks for this phone besides rooting ?
As long as you are logged into your google account on the phone, it should backup automatically. If you want to make sure, go to settings->accounts->Google, then touch your email address. You can turn off different things to sync, one should be "Contacts"
The manual way, if you want to keep a copy yourself, is to open the Contacts app, then check the settings there. Should be an option to export contacts. It makes a .vcf file that can hang on to.

correct.
Probably going to make that vcf file backup, then clear data and cache in the contacts apps. Then restore contacts with the vcf file, and try resynching.
it wont sync, because you inserted the contacts to phone not to gmail account. You canverify it by going to contacts, hit menu (three dots im upper right corner). then select showed accounts and deselect phone. You will notice, that the contacts are gone, because they are only onbthe phone memory (not synced). You have to export all contacts to vcf file, then inport the vcf. When you select import from sdcard the app will ask you if you wish to import to phone (not synced) or to your google account (you have to be loged in). You select to google account and its done. In few minutes you will see the contacts also in your gmail account under contact on computer... howgh ?

ho do you mean going to contacts through text message icon?Do you mean when you start a text message and choose the recipient? It could be because you have the numbers on your phone/sim and also on google account. delete the one in your phone (before make sure they are on your phone and that you have backed them to google account or to cvs file through export option).

Manual email sync

I have three email accounts using the stock email app, and a gmail account using the gmail app. The three accounts using the stock app are all set to sync manually, and the peak schedule set to off. The stock app still syncs throughout the day, does anyone know how to set it so it will only sync when the app is opened up?
I had the same problem. Only way I could keep it from syncing was to turn sync completely off in the email app's settings. Then turn it back on when I wanted to manually sync.
Same problem with manaul sync of email
Bought my S7 today and have discovered the same thing. Setting sync schedule to manual does not seem to have any effect. If Sync account is on, I get mail; it's if off, I don't. I'd like to set Sync account to on, then request mail when I want it. The pdf manual reads 'To manually retrieve emails, swipe downwards on the screen.' But if Sync account is off, swiping down doesn't retrieve emails, and if Sync account is on, the emails are downloaded before you swipe.
Bug?

Move your Gmail account to the stock email app and you can set it however you need. It would be easier to have all accounts in one place anyway.

Have you tried through Settings > Accounts long press on Google and turn off Automatic Sync in there for G-Mail and any other Google services you don't want to sync automatically.
Then when you open the G-Mail app just pull the screen down to update your messages which will sync manually.

If you turn it off then when you open your gmail app and slide the screen down you will see the circle icon rotating and any new emails will be loaded into you inbox, I know it works because I use it, if you have no new emails nothing will change.

Same here. For the gmail account I use the gmail app. For the other two accounts (one is yahoo one is work POP account) i use the S7 stock email app. The stock email is better for me as it allows me to sort by unread and select all. All set on manual but keeps synchronizing. Very annoying...

Yes it is. And there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it.

I have the exact same problem.
I want manual sync (no automatic sync) for my work email after 17:00, but I want to be able to open the app and browse emails offline (WITHOUT the app instantly triggering a sync). This worked in my S5 but has now changed in S7.
Agree that it is a bug!
Simon
Any suggestions??? More bugs - bought S7 -just set up my business email as POP3 (yahoo small business with email on Yahoo server) thru email that comes with S7. Want all my emails from my email acount on phone - several years of them that amount to under 2GB (sometimes need see all conversations from past with client while not hear laptop in home office) and then want to sync every 15 min and have new emails sent to phone - (on laptop use microsoft outlook set up as pop3 to leave on server when download). Also since I am starting new bus but want to see emails from old bus only way to do on phone is Pop3 (if stop paying Yahoo yearly fee will delete emails from its server for that email account). My old Blackberry did this perfectly - downloaded all , then every 15 minutes just downloaded new when synched and could just flick thru them. In prior Samsung S (did not own one) used to have setting in synch to "period of time" to sync - in S7 now asks "how many emails to load"- even if set on TOTAL does not seem to be willing to download all my emails. to the phone. Only loaded three months then went back while phone still on, and only one month shows. Whole purpose of Pop3 is to download ALL emails in an email account. Then when delete an email deletes from phone and server. Any fix for this anyone knows? If this just a limit in the native email app in phone or in Android OS so in all phones? If just this app anyone know an email app for non-exchange and exchange servers that will permit you to download ALL emails in email account set as pop3?
Yes - this sucks - I have used a note3, note4 and the manual sync rmail works great - I tried a note5 and it would sync automatically (even though I set it to only manual sync) I KNOW how to so this (since I did it with the note 3&4. ---- the note 7 also has this problem - WHY didn't samsung fix it? It's ANNOYING to be woken up with email alerts, and it's annoying to have to turn sync on and off. We paid a lot of money for this phone - it should work.... come on Samsung......
