Huge battery drain all the time (hardware issue?) - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I was hoping you could help me pinpoint the reasons why my Honor 8 suddenly can't get 2 hours of SOT and can't barely hold a charge for more than 6h with little usage.
Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/AH8oFua
19% battery
49min with screen on
6h30 powered on since last full charge
It's a FRD-AL10 model bought in Gearbest in August 2017 that came rebranded as FRD-L19C636.
It was working reasonably untill recently, when the battery began to die really fast, with no apparent reason.
When it first happened, it had B360 firmware installed.
I though that maybe forcing the update to B380 it would make a change. It didn't. Same for B390.
Did a Factory reset, no luck.
At that point I decided to unlock the bootloader and try custom roms, but the fact that the camera didn't work properly in none of them was enough to discard that option without further tests.
I went back to stock B360 (even though now the phone displays the test mode rom now - I'll handle it later).
So that's it: I've done several full formats and factory resets by now, and the battery performance remains poor, even though the phone is less than a year old.
This kind of happened suddenly, that's why I was thinking it was software related, but I'm not sure anymore, since the drain persists in multiple firmwares and after multiple resets, and cleanings of cache.
Thanks for the help!

It's cause of Google play services. They rolled out a bad update. The same is happening to my device. We'll have to just wait till they release a new update.

Haha I was losing my mind regarding this, I thought I was the only one facing this till I came across your thread.
If you check out the play store reviews of play services from the past 3 days you'll see lots of people complaining about the same.

You need to roll back the update
or reset the settings to factory settings.

I got the same s***t.

No Problem With Mine, I Disabled Some Google Play Services Services With An App

here

Thank you guys, my girlfriend and I are both having battery drain issues. I really hope it is a software issue that will get fixed. We both really love the phone .

AccuBattery is consistently saying my battery health is around 1300mAh, after many recharge cycles.
This info persists after a brand new factory reset and rollback to B360.
I guess the battery is indeed the one main culprit here.

(Q) Google services wakelock

Hi I am having an issue with Google services keeping my phone awake is there any way to solve this.

I'm seeing this also.
Yeah me too. Can't seem to find what it is. I have all location reporting turned off.

Things to try: Force Sync everything
Sign out of your account then back in
Reboot
Usually one of these will fix it.
Me too
This just happened to me for the first time this morning. I've disabled all syncing with my google account and rebooted. Phone is sleeping properly again.
I had that happened to me with Google Play Services last week. I went to the Apps menu and cleared that app's data and services. That seems to have fixed it.

Cool I'll try log out of Google clear cache and log back in.

I was seeing same thing too...rebooting did the trick for me.
Yeah that's weird. I have the exact same problem. My Nexus 5 has been great so far but I charged it up last night and when I woke up this morning, "Google Services" was listed as taking up over 60% of my battery and my device had been awake all night. I've restarted my phone which will hopefully help.
Same here. Rebooting seems to have fixed it.
This happened to me twice last week. Completely drained my fully charged phone within 6 hours.
I ended up uninstalling the Google Play update and reinstalling it. So far, it's been good.

How do you uninstall Google Play update? I ask in case i need to do so.
I can confirm that this morning I woke up with the battery drain as well. First time this has happened. A reboot has stopped the timer on the "wake time" so that's good

Mine did the same thing this morning, never had the issue before today. I rebooted the phone and that seemed to fix the problem.
It happens off and on for me. There is no rhyme or reason for it. Some days I get great battery life and some days this happens and battery life sucks.
Guess something on Googles end. Lots of people gotten it today, on many different phones. I got it on both my motorola xoom and nexus 7 today, never happened before.
I've had pretty bad battery life since like 2 days ago. I think Google is pushing something out that's causing all of us to get bad battery life. They were supposed to release an update on Nov 13 and I don't think anyone's got it yet
Had this same issue on my Galaxy S4. Exact same thing. Totally random.
I've had excellent battery life on my Nexus 5 every day...until today. Google Play Services is the culprit.
I wish Google would hurry up and fix this...but considering it's been an issue for a long time now...I'm not that confident we'll have a solution any time soon.
You can reboot and uninstall and clear cache all day long...it may go away temporarily, but it will come back.
I have the same problem but not with Google services. Until now it happens with the processes mediaserver and Android OS.
Closing any program by swiping it away does not help.
Only a restart seems to solve it.

I read somewhere this is caused by turning location services being turned off.
I could be wrong but it's worth a shot

Help: Android system consuming 90% overnight... in deep sleep. Battery down by ~15%

I did a complete charge last night before I hit the sack. Battery was around 96%, today morning 80%!
I flashed stock ROM using TWRP, on first charge cycle battery is fine - just 1% overnight drain with 8 hrs SOT. On second charge cycle this issue hits me everytime.
All my radios are usually off (WiFi, NFC, Bluetooth, Data).
My phone seems to be in deep sleep a good portion of that time (See WLD statistics - attachment #1).
Android system sucks my battery during sleep and it was at 90% relative consumption when I woke up (See screen shot #1, Android sys has consumed 1840mAh!! This is ridiculously high for a phone that is apparently in Deep Sleep!)
Also attached screen shots from WLD for Summary, Kernal / Partial wakelocks & Alarms.
Device is rooted.
Going crazy trying to find out what's happening.
This happened with KangVIP and my current B180 ROM's which have great battery life as reported by other users here .
After you flased the ROM did you factory reset?

Just wanna note here that if you live in the US the huawei erecovery does not work. It tries to fetch a download link for 5 minutes before abandoning. Even in stock firmware
Today when I woke up, Android system was @ 92% relative consumption with 15% drain.

This is an unacceptable level of drain. I get similar numbers. This is getting very annoying. I am spending hours just debugging this nonsense.
When did you install / reset your ROM? What is the build you are on? I have read some posts that suggest to let the system be for first few days since it is in a "Learning Phase". Mine is currently in that phase.
Also, I find that many users here are not facing this issue on the ROM's that I am on, but some users are. I have faced this in multiple different ROM's.
Hence, I suspect this is an issue of some setting that we have changed. This is the first thing I do after reset / flash - modify a bunch of settings.
After searching and reading a lot, I have not come across any solid solutions from anywhere.
Here's a solution from the other thread. But I don't have this in system/apps. So this goes down the drain.

Couple others that are worth mentioning,
1. WiFi causing the drain (Am currently debugging this, modifying options).
2. Format SD card on new ROM, or just remove it (Would be great if you could try this out).
3. Factory reset has not solved for most people, but for some. (Did they *not* tweak some setting after reset?)
4. I think much of this drain is experienced after, charging and during sleep after that!

What value do u have for WiFi -> Advanced -> Keep WiFi on During sleep?
I had the battery drain till last night. Before sleeping I charged it completely, and modified this WiFi setting. Overnight I had only 2% drain as compared to +15% over last few days.
Battery looks good for now. I had the feeling that my WiFi is consuming more power than 4G (Need to verify if I am right). Currently observing.
I hope it is not one of those sporadic issues!

I presume u have been facing this issue at least over past few days now, not just a day or two.
Try toggling to Never. Recharge to full before you hit the sack. Lets see if that changes anything. This helped me, but need to observe for multiple consecutive days.

That's one of the first few things I disable. Nor do I use backup.
The battery drain is back. Disappeared for just a couple of days.
Is there anyone who knows how to fix this issue?
I would request you to do a back up of your apps and then factory reset and then again flash the ROM but via dload method.
Everything will be fine.
Then you can restore your apps

Note 8 battery life

Hi all.....I have an AT&T Note 8 and the other day it did the software update (3BRB2) for the Feb security update.Since then, my battery won't even get me through the day with light use!
I am a heavy user for my job, and have always been able to get thru the day with no problem. Now I am lucky when I get to the afternoon!
Has anyone else who recently did the security update had this issue?
Thanks
I did search but found nothing directly related to this particular update..........LOL.
Hmm. Haven't noticed but I will keep an eye on it. I am also a heavy user for work so I will notice immediately. Today I worked from home so its been hooked up to a charger all day.

Me too on AT&T February update, me too with Note 8 but I don't see any battery loss o faster discharge. Try to reboot or restart your Note if that doesn't work then Factory Reset but that's is the last option you know that's work time after factory to configure as it's was. No matter what but every time I Factory Reset my formers phones configuration again is a fact, the back up and in a zip everything is back don't work for me.

The battery of My OnePlus 6 is draining drastically like a years old phone

I am facing issues with OnePlus 6 mobile. Last night I have charged the phone to 100% and to my shock when I woke up in the morning the battery left is just 6%. This is definitely not normal. Yesterday I got a feeling that battery is draining fast and so I have removed all the cache, tried deep clear/clean.
Note: I haven't updated my phone from oxygen5.1.0
I want my issue to be resolved as soon as possible.

Update to 5.1.9
I love how they demand "I want my issue to be resolved as soon as possible." like we do not have other jobs or things to do but to serve him!
Anyway update to 5.1.9 do a full factory reset and see how it goes.
Got 3 a 5 hours sot with always on display. Without it I get around 5 a 6 hours. Battery is a bit to small in my experience.

Are you a member or admin of this ??
If you are an admin, I think you have started this with the intension of helping people with possible solutions. So why do you take it as a demand and why don't you think it as asking for help in a less polite way
If you are just a member, why did you login into this site if you have some other work or job. No one asked you to solve their problems as a priority. It's your decision to help people or not. By the way I didn't write that line with intension of demand. Why would I demand something from a total stranger without any valid reason. Don't simply misunderstand people.

The above is demanding that your problem be resolved as soon as possible, maybe next time leave lines like that out you’ll get answers quick enough regardless.
How I solve my battery drain issues, inside battery stats menu the process (system Android) was consuming most of the battery juice, I upgrade from oxygen os 5.1.8 to 5.1.9 using the app " oxygen updater " but then oneplus publish the update on the website and I notice the file names aren't the same so
My steps
1 download the oxygen os 5.1.9 full zip from oneplus website
2 without wiping dirty flash the zip
3 wipe dalvic cache
4 flash twrp zip to keep twrp recovery
5 boot system
6 reboot to twrp
7 flash magisk 16.4 (to avoid "vendor miss match message" )
8 boot system
9 using magisk app upgrade magisk to 16.7 using direct install
So far "system Android" is using just 2% before was at the top even over screen consumption.

P20 Battery drain by system app!!!

hello, four days so far i've noticed that my battery was being drained too quickly, started to look out for the problem and i found that this "phone" system app (version 5.0.0.1) is draining and heating my P20, i usually don't make phone calls, neither sms or something related to it, but it keeps being active all time and my battery suffers drain problem
pd. phone is tecnically brand new, got it about 2 months with me, bought new
pd2. i've tried devoloper options to stop it, didnt work
pd3. i've done a hard reset and factory restore but didn't work
pd4. past days before the problem battery used to least around 9-11 hours with regular use, now i hardly get to 3-4 with regular use, intensive use before was around 4-5 hours, now not even 2 hours....
Please please help me!! i'm going mad with this problem....
i'm on android 8.1
huawei EML-L29 C605 on version 8.1.0.154, non rooted
and so far today i've used my phone about 3 hours, screen time around 1 hour and 30 minutes, and this app is taking big juice of battery
