I wanna know if anyone notices improvements in picture quality over 5.1.8 and older. I see no real improvement in a well lighted environment but low light photos look a lot better now for me.
How's it looking for the rest of you guys?
Low light pictures are actually usable now. They're not superb by any means, but they're definitely better than 5.1.8
Does anybody else have missing portrait mode?

For me. Portrait mode is more refined except that all is same but low lights are not good at all than before.
MOD EDIT: YOUTUBE LINK REMOVED
Low light photos look very bad to me. I havent seen such bad low light photos for a long time.

That's good for me.. Is it 5.1.9?
Can you take some indoor low-light or artificial light photos? I am on 5.1.8 for now, reconsidering for updating
5.1.9, back camera. auto.
Hdr is amazing after this update.. it's not just a boosted dynamic range mode anymore... It boosts contrast, colors and make photos look incredible..
So far I'm loving this update ?
Moderator Information,
Thread closed, there is already a thread here: 5.1.7 vs 5.1.9 Camera Quality Comparison... 5.1.9 looks worse....

The camera quallity is pretty bad. Anyone knows a good way to make it better? by change the settings/different camera app/change rom/etc...

Thanks!
Only Motorola can help us with this, changing the noise-reduction algorhythms built in with the firmware.
The only thing we can do is to leave comments to keep alive this thread in Motorola forum:

Thanks man !! I'll try to talk with them too. I was trying some camera apps... None of them made the picture quality better. :/
Hey bro! Why don't you try to install another camera app? Or you can try to add tweaks in the build.prop to make the image quality better. In my opinion, the camera app of Moto G GPE is better than the Motorola's
Might help
Maybe this will help. Just a good photo enhancer - Pixlr Express
Pixlr Express is good for touching up your photos, also on the motorola camera app you can slide the wheel and turn off widescreen mode, this means that the camera uses all 5 megapixels whereas if widescreen is on the camera only uses 4

I replied to this discussion, I'd like know how to fix this problem. I prefer a picture with noise and definition than a waterpainted one. Now have you find a way to improve the camera? Thank you guys
Thanks to everyone who joined that discussion... With so many comments and feedback I think they will help us for sure!
Hello
I have a galaxy s6, I noticed that when a light source is at the upper left quarter (corner) of the image (while taking photo in low light) there will be a diagonal streak light effect
You can see that in the image and video below, Do U think that it’s normal ?

Good day Sirs
I would just like to ask if there are any of you guys that has encountered this issue/bug on s8+'s back camera using Pro mode and high shutter speed settings (as you move the shutter speed to high)
the issue usually presents itself when I go to Pro mode and use high shutter speed settings which is 1/500 and up and usually indoors
got to test this on two demo units and only 1 also has this
could you any of you guys post your images with the said settings or if you guys had it replicated...
the issue/bug is already right there at the preview screen
so what you see on my images is also what i see on my screen... the only difference is the dark lines are moving sideways on the preview screen
please help me on this Sirs
will bring my unit at the service center this weekend
btw, I have the S8+ exynos version
here are the shots

updat
I just visited Samsung Service Center this weekend and they have replicated the issue on one of their demo units and told me that they will forward myconcern in their main office...
And hopefully could hear from them ASAP...
Any of you guys has replicated this bug/issue?
I think its a normal limitation isn't it? Light level is probably too low which is why its more prevelant indoors as well. I'd venture to say all of the s8's do this (including mine). Don't panic mate. Just enjoy the phone.

been doing that since day 1... hehehe! thanks! all i'm thinking right now is that I'm not gonna use that setting indoors or in low-light anyways
Looks like a pattern very typical of fluorescent lighting + fast shutter speed - I think it's called "banding". Pretty sure I can see flouro lights in a reflection in a couple of photos. Find a constant/non-flickering light source like an incandescent bulb and try it. Notice how it isn't doing it on your laptop display?
Your camera is not faulty and it is not a bug.
50/60 Hz flickering?
My bad, the last two posters are correct. I think that's exactly what the problem is. The banding is caused by the frequency of the lights.
Yup, I but these pics are all being taken under fluorescent lighting.
If you haven't already, grab the new camera update. Grid was added. In fact, we got three variants, including golden ratio. Very nice Essential. I'm liking this device more every day.
Not sure if it's just me but the mono camera seems o be better too.

New added:
AutoHDR mode
Improve capture speed
With the recent updates the camera is much better. Love it!
Capture speed is definitely way faster almost instant now and pics are looking pretty good too

I came from a Galaxy S6 and I find the camera very acceptable. Portrait mode is a pretty cool feature as well! The only real thing I miss is the voice feature like saying shoot to take a picture.

I came from my wife's S6 as it was spare and my phone was a OnePlus One.
I'd say the camera is slightly better on the S6 still but it isn't far off.
I only found the S6 "say shoot" late into using my wife's phone. Total gimmick [emoji1]

New update brings a massive improvement to HDR. GCam is still better, but the gap is slowly closing.

I can't replicate this on mine.
Well, i have received an explanation from a bro, which have find the same situation. He just think that it related to brightness. When the sensor detect the brightness is enough, the 2X camera will run, if it detect brightness is not enough the camera will change to 1X camera. Sothat, when the light in a embarrassing situation(no brightness enough and also not realy dark) this issus will happen, two cameras switch and switch, realy quickly and also again here is a kind of explanation ,so am i.
Try video Pro

Yeah I see what you did there XD. Neat trick.
High light/contrast on the computer screen and no light on the Keyboard...you're asking for problems.
Have you tried using the Pro video app. That's going to get a better shot than the standard camera app.
While I can't possibly see the reason for attempting this kind of shot in low light conditions. I have sort or re-created it on mine but the camera wants to focus on where i hold my finger/thumb; which has next to no visual queues for the hardware/software to recognise so it will do what your are seeing.
I agree that the camera has become a little sluggish in 2X mode in low light. But to be honest I wouldn't have bothered until you posted this.
It's doing exaclty what I would expect it to do under the conditions.
