Hard bricked and bootloader still blocked - Samsung Galaxy J7 Questions & Answers

Hello, I have a SM-J700M, Brazilian model from a relative. It''s apparently hard bricked as I'm getting a "an error has occurred while updating the device software" message. While I'm still able to get into download mode, I can't get into recovery mode. This phone hasn't had its bootloader unlocked before, so when I tried to flash the stock ROM with Odin, and I've tried multiple different ROMs from Sammobile and elsewhere, both Lollipop and Marshmallow, however I always either get a bootloader message or an "invalid magic string" error in one case. I naturally cannot flash TWRP either because the bootloader blocks it as well. I've tried flashing just TWRP, or just the extracted hidden.img from the unpacked .tar file. I've also tried using both Smart Switch and Kies but they do not detect my phone. Is there any other possible solution?

What happens when you try booting into recovery? What key combo are you using to get to it? And are you able to boot into safe mode? (Hold Vol↓on boot)
Also, have you tried a different version of Odin? I've had problems flashing firmware if I use an older version. Not all versions play nice with all the different models.

Have you tried SmartSwitch?
And please stop trying with Lollipop.

When I try to boot into recovery it just gives me the "an error has occurred" message and. Now that I've tried flashing TWRP it just stays in the boot screen. I haven't tried another version of Odin though, just the latest one, but perhaps it will work with an older one. I'll try that and return here to report if it works. Thanks for your help.

I know how it is to get stuck in that kind of loop. If odin at least gives you a pass when flashing a recovery, you can try flashing the stock recovery or TWRP, leaving the auto reboot option checked, and quickly holding Vol↑+Home+Power as soon as the screen turns off. If the error in stock recovery shows a triangle, you can try tapping Vol↓2 times to bring up its menu. If that doesn't work, try Vol↑ 2 times. If none of those work, I would try pulling the battery, and rebooting into recovery once more and giving it one more try. I honestly think your device can be saved. It might take a few tries though.

You have one option at this point, which is to flash stock through odin.
Ill link you to a website, which has your firmware download, and a guode to flash stock through odin.

[Q] Phone not booting!! Looks like bricked!

I tried flashing my device with stock ROM using Odin, but it was unsuccessful even after trying many times. Now, the device isn't turning on(NOT EVEN SHOWING SAMSUNG LOGO), and is not even booting in recovery mode!!
Please help!!!
Are you able to go to download mode? If yes, try this. Check if the Samsung drivers are installed on PC. Reinstall them, if you wish. Then try to flash again. If Odin displays error, post the Odin's error log here.
Also, try to do a full flash, with bootloader update and repartition. Use, DDLF2 or XXKPE rom for full flash.

I installed the phone's drivers again via KIES and then the flashing was successful!! Still Thanks!

tried to install a 6.0.1 rom and ****ed up my phone so bad.

downloaded twrp 3, was running 5.1.1 on my phone and rooted it. tried to flash a rom and got stuck in a bootloop, now I cant boot into twrp, or anything for that matter. All i can do is hold volume down and power and home and try to ODIN a new bootloader or such and it just fails. what do i do? but when I try to boot into TWRP it goes into a blueish screen with a White exclamation mark saying "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software. I tried to do that but it didnt even recognize the device. At this point i dont care about the data, I just need a working device
Okay, so I attempted to unroot and flash the stock 5.0.2 software and I got a error on the download screen. It says SW REV. CHECK FAIL. DEVICE: 3. BINARY: 1.
If you have no knox install MM official then flash this kernel tar file (AP) https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B40ItdHKfkyQcTA5bnRPWDg0X28&usp=drive_web#list it will boot to mm 5min :good:
Btw you cann downgrade from 5.1.1 to 5.0.1 you just go up not down

Happened to me a lot of times in the past few days trying to get MM, for some weird reason flashing Unikernel always works for me (takes me to recovery screen after, then i select 'reboot now'), and all my data, apps etc are still there

will try and update. thank you. didnt work.
Okay guys so now I need a ROM to flash using ODIN. I tried to download from sammobile but the speeds are too damn slow. What I tried to flash was this file " G920TUVU1AOCG_G920TTMB1AOCG_G920TUVU1AOCG_HOME.tar.md5 " and i got the error 3 to 1.
Download Samfirm from here, XDA itself.
Run samfirm, enter model as G920F and your region code.
It will download from Samsung servers, so high speed.
Now flash using Odin the downloaded file by putting the phone in download mode, (vol down+home+power on).
How did it happen?
Did you try to flash the VOD 6.0.1 and got stuck towards the end at hidden.IMG failing the process?
If yes, then its a two minute job. Just open the 6.0.1 tar archive and look for hidden.IMG extract it anywhere and rename it from "hidden.img" to "hidden.img.tar".
Note flash this hidden.img.tar as AP in download mode, your phone should boot.

When I turn my phone on, it reboots over and over again, HELP PLEASE!

So I used my galaxy note edge SM-N915F for 6 months with no problem, but I did the Marshmallow 6.0.1 update and now it doesn't work. As I said in the title when I try to start it reboots over and over again.
Any suggestions?? It opens only downloading mode and I flashed a rom(official russian Marshmallow 6.0.1 rom) with Odin and it didn't work.
Please help me! Thanks in advanced!

When using the correct button combination are you able to enter recovery or does it continue to bootloop? Power, Home and Volume Up is used to enter recovery. When you attempted to flash the stock firmware through Odin, where did you download the stock firmware from?

Yes, it continue to bootloop even when I try to open in recovery mode. I succesfully entered recovery mode only one time and was able to full wipe, full cache the phone. This is after the flashing. I flashed the stock firmware a week ago and I actually don't remember where I downloaded it from. Thanks for your interest.

Most firmwares are available from sammobile.com. Which version of Odin are you using? Also, when you performed the flash through Odin, did Odin show the flash to be successful on the progress window? Was your Note Edge rooted or did you have a custom recovery installed before the bootloop issue started?

Have you tried a different version of Odin to perform the flash? I have 3.07 and 3.10 and sometimes one version will work perfectly and the other will show a successful flash but the device will still bootloop. Check which version you have and then download a different one to test with. That may be your issue.
Also, can you enter recovery at all anymore? If you try to enter recovery several times in a row during the bootloop process you may be able to access it after a few attempts. If you can enter recovery, wipe data/factory reset for me. Then attempt to boot. If it loops again, download the official firmware from sammobile.com and flash it with your original version of Odin. If it still loops, then flash it again with the different version of Odin. Lemme know how it goes. I'll do what I can to help.

I tried different Odin versions but it didn't work. I can flash rom succesfully but after the flashing it doesn't open in recovery mode. It bootloops. Once, it opened in recovery mode and I did wipe data/factory reset after first flashing and it didn't work. Now, it still doesn't open anyway except Downloading Mode.

I used 5.1.1 to before I accepted the MM OTA and I didn't have any p roblem with 5.1.1. I tried to flash different type of 6.0.1 after the problem. Just, problem started with the MM OTA. I will try to flash 5.1.1. So, I guess I need to enter recovery to wipe data/factory reset before flashing 5.1.1 but I can not because it still bootloop. How can I do wipe data/factory reset?
Edit1: And I readed somewhere, they said that it is about the kernel? Is it possible?
Edit2: A few minutes ago, I succeeded to enter recovery mode, I did factory reset and phone still bootloop. It doesn't open. Now, I am downloading the 5.1.1. I will try to flash 5.1.1.
Edit3: I tried a lot of times but it is still same. I flashed the 5.1.1 with different versions of Odin. I successful with flashed it but phone wants to enter in recovery mode after flashing and it bootloops. It is trying to enter recovery mode all time but it doesn't work. Sometimes, on charge, it close to enter the recovery mode. I said in edit2 I succeeded to enter recovery mode, but I didn't say that it was on charge because I discover this now. So, I don't know what I have to do, I am waiting for your suggestions.

Let's see if we can get your Note Edge into safe mode without bootlooping. Use these steps:
Turn on safe mode
Turn the device off.
Press and hold the Power and Volume down key.
Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
I have read a few forums and notes about booting into safe mode can stop the bootloop. Once it's successfully booted into safe mode we can attempt to boot normally. Give it a shot and I'll keep researching. Good luck.

I tried a lot of times but it didn't work. I tried on charge, without charge, with different cables but still bootloop. It is just like a joke.
I tried with Kies but Kies didn't see my edge. It didn't connect. On the Kies window, it said "connecting..." so I waited about 2 hours and it didn't connect. Then, I tried to emergency firmware recovery, it didn't see my edge again.
Download Samsung Smart Switch and see if it recognizes your device.

Do you have your friends device with you and a PC to use? Was your friend trying to root the device or install a custom recovery or a custom ROM when this happened?
Or, did your friend accept the OTA for 6.0.1 MM and then ended up in a bootloop after installing the OTA?

What version of Odin are you using to flash the factory firmware? Try to flash the firmware with a different version of Odin.
Also, you said the flash was unsuccessful using Odin. Was there an error message in Odin at the bottom left corner of the screen? If so, what was the error? I have had several flashes fail using one version of Odin but pass with a different version.
Also, what version of Android was your friends device using before you tried to flash the 6.0.1 firmware? If the device was running 5.1.1, have you tried to flash a 5.1.1 firmware with Odin?

Search for Odin 3.07 and 3.10. I use both of these versions. When all else fails for me I use 3.07 and it always seems to work for me. Also, I'm betting it was running 5.1.1 because 6.0.1 hasn't been out that long for the Saudi Arabian Note Edge. I would flash the 5.1.1 stock firmware using Odin 3.07 and see if it will allow you to boot normally. Let me know how it goes. Good luck.

Dammit man. Ill keep looking through my Samsung stuff and see what I can find. I sent my cousin an email yesterday who works for Samsung in their Tier 3 Technical Support/Case Management Group and asked her for some help. I'm really curious as to what she has to say on the subject. When it comes to a Samsung Galaxy or Note device she is a PRO. When I run into an issue with any of my Samsung devices that I can't fix, I call or email her. Keep working on it and we will find a solution.

Galaxy S7 stuck in bootloop

I've been trying to flash TWRP recovery via Odin on my S7 (G930W8), however I would constantly get the verification error. Now I'm trying to reflash the stock firmware but it gave me a Fail on Odin. This is probably my fifth time reflashing the stock rom, and it worked previously today but then it decided it had enough and started giving me a bootloop I guess lol. But yeah, everytime I try reflashing the stock now it fails to do so. I'm absolutely sure I have the right firmware.
My phone is stuck on a bootloop now with the Samsung text and black screen. I can get to TWRP recovery via volume up, power button, and home button, but I can't really do anything there, not even full wipe as it tells me it couldn't mount or something. I can get to Download mode though.
Any advice? I'm really stuck right now.
EDIT: So it looks like this worked: I turned off the device via recovery mode, and then flashed my stock firmware.

Bootloop in my S8 Plus, where to download Stock Firmware?

Hi,
I have S8 Plus SM-G955F in Germany.
Dont knwo what exactly happend, but my phone was just still running fine (bootloader is unlocked) and I rebooted but then was stuck at "Installing system updates" screen which appear before getting into recovery. However, it does not enter into recovery and reboots after few seconds into "installing updates" mode which then fails.
It does not boot up into Android.
All I can access to is Download Mode.
I flashed "BL_G955FXXU1AQF7_CL11544126_QB13847503_REV00_user_low_ship.tar" Bootloader and rebooted and now it is stuck in Samsung boot logo. If I press Vol up + Bixpy Button + Power nothing happends, it does not even start to load Recovery mode.
I now downloaded following stock firmware through SamFirm: "SM-G955F_1_20171214140840_hlcm4r582t_fac.zip.enc4" (3332 MB)
but when trying to flash it in odin I get FAILED !!! Also if I try to flash TWRP recovery "twrp-3.1.0-1-dream2lte.img" I get FAILED in Odin I now also tried to flash "AP_G955FXXU1AQH3_CL12050265_QB14545623_REV00" firmware using this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2y0ZZxcNVnE which also FAILED. I think I am completely bricked !!
Please help, phone is completeley useless now
Thanks!

I had the same problem with downloading stock firmware. My problem was that I couldn't download from SamMobile because of server maintenance. So I downloaded from here. An with this tool there's the option to decrypt the file automatically. I forgot to tick this option and had a .enc4-file like you have there. The problem could decrypt this file and then I could unzip it and use it with odin.
So that's your problem: you are trying to use an encrypted file. But you have to use an decrypted file.

Usual behaviour was this: Vol up, bixpy and Power -> Recovery mode which fist starts with "Installing update..." then failed and then it goes into some black recovery mode where you can choose Apply update.zip etc. right? However, in my case this black screen with more commands did not show up, before it was rebooting again by itself.
Now I cannot even get into this "installing updates" mode before recovery, because "Vol up, bixpy and Power" does not bring any action.
Vol down, Bixpy and Power still works and brings me to Download Mode. But it doesnt help me, because once I tr to flash any firmware in Download Mode, it FAILS in Odin, so I am completely stuck, hope you understand

Download mode is the only mode you need for restoring stock firmware.
Try this guide. (Spoiler "Flashing Standard Firmware:")
Yesterday I did it with this one too and it worked flawlessly. But I used Odin v3.12.3 not as said in the guide V3.12.7.

it automatically loaded into recovery before, I was not able to boot into Android, it loaded recovery (but without black screen with more commands) automatically by default and rebooted, loaded recovery again and rebooted, loaded recovery againd and rebooted etc...all I could to to interrupt this was loading download mode.
However, thanks for the link, but it does describe what I did already. And yes, I also used Odin 3.12.3 already because in the video tutorial I linked some posts before they said also, I need to use that version.
However, it simply does not work. Odin FAILS everytime
I am not doing anything wrong, I am sure. The only thing could be that the Firmware I downloaded is still wrong, even I cannot imagine this.

Yes that's the only thing that comes on my mind too if you think everything else is right. Download another firmware file maybe from a different provider than SamMobile.
Or try using different USB-Port, USB-Cable and/or different PC.

Did already, did not help. I think maybe there is something realldy bricked, so flashing stock firmware wont be possible at all anymore?! Is this possible somehow?
btw: Just managed to load into TWRP, randomly it does load twrp, dont know how, because if I press the keys for loading into recovery, it actually does not do anything, but currently I see twrp.
Is see anything I can try from there? btw: formated data (incl. internal storage) earlier already, but it did not change anything.
But any idea what I can try to flash from TWRP maybe? Is there a way to flash stock firmware from TWRP somehow?
I found a backup in twrp, I am currently trying to restore it...

Google found this. But I don't know if this works. I only flashed custom ROMs via TWRP. Stock ROMs always via Odin.

My mistake, sorry - I posted in the wrong place- sorry. (I do hope you find a way to get t his fixed) good luck
I just ran into this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/stuck-bootloop-flashing-aqg5-fix-t3636857
It looks like you're not the only one...
You know, you might want to try and remove the more current apps you installed and see if that is causing the loop, and if that does not work, just dirty flash over what you have. For me, a lot of time a dirty flash will solve the issue, as it overwrites the OEM software, and in that manner, takes my phone OS back to normal/new state, while leaving my data.
