Hi,
My phone is rooted, decrypted and TWRP as a recovery, but still running the stock ROM. I'm looking to disable the notification telling me an OTA update is available. I'm guessing I can't easily upgrade the phone without loosing root or worse? The update isn't really that important to me at the moment. I would just like to disable the notification reminding me all the time. Seems there used to be an easy way of doing this on earlier Android versions, but not on Marshmallow? Or maybe Samsung makes this harder?
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Anyone? Would love to be able to dismiss the notification without upgrading.

Why dont you try to freeze the notification with titanium .
I am not sure but try freezing com.wssyncmldm and com.sec.android.soagent
Try also com.samsung.firmware.nfc com.samsung.firmware.sensorhub com.samsung.android.firmware.tsp
I am not rooted but disabled them with package disabler
I think if you freeze them all updating menu doesnt work at all
Thanks, I'll give it a shot soon. I'm waiting for my Micro-SD-card to arrive. Right now, my phone is too full to take a Nandroid-backup. I'd like to take a backup before I freeze the ones you mentioned, just in case.

Freezing com.wssyncmldm and com.sec.android.soagent did the trick. Well, most of the trick at least. It removed the notification from the pull-down menu, and hence the lockscreen. It didn't remove it from the settings menu. Tried freezing the other three packages as well, but it didn't seem to change anything else. At least not visual. Removing the notification in the settings menu as well would be great, but at least I got rid of the most annoying one.
So again, thanks!
If anyone know of a way to remove the notification in settings (the white large notification "billboard" at the top  ), let me know..

No, I'm thinking of the white large "Software Update" notification in the settings menu. Look at the attached image.

I dont have that
why dont you try to go to notifications advanced more and show system apps. Maybe you can disable the notification from there. "System" is present there.
I was having the same issue with ota notification. My sprint S7 is not rooted (obviously, lol) so I disabled com.wssyncmldm and com.sec.android.soagent as you suggested with Package Disabler Pro and it got rid of the notification. Actually, when I disabled com.wssyncmldm the notification went away instantly so not sure if com.sec.android.soagent was necessary but I left it disabled as well.
Thanks!

Doesn't seem to work either. Thanks though.
I have the same issue.
Same here
Same issue here. I really don't want the 7.0 upgrade as I just downgraded back to 6.0.1. I don't want to root my phone. But is there an easy way to turn off this notification that is in 2 spots right now?

Sorry about the late reply. If you read earlier in the thread, I used Package Disabler Pro (if I remember correctly). I.e post #9.
Got the package disabler pro app. Best $1.49 i've spent on play store no more nagging.
Hey guys,
I accidentally started downloading the 7.0 update and quickly stopped it, and have that annoying pop-up as well. I have the China variant of the s7, g9300, and I don't see com.wssyncmldm and com.sec.android.soagent in the package disabler pro app. So, I'm a bit confused. Anyone have any ideas?!

Did PDP recently revert back to allowing com.wssyncmldm and com.sec.android.soagent to be disabled? My information is the PDP developers made some sort of deal with Samsung to eliminate control of those packages by PDP. And that explanation seems consistent with many folks claiming that the new versions of PDP no longer work to remove the update nags. I know that my PDP installation became ineffective against the many update nags I was encountering each day. It was so frustrating that I uninstalled PDP and replaced it with Note 7 Alliance's Shield package disabler, which worked. But I'm just wondering if PDP works again now as well?

Flash a different modem
Why would that help? It's not related to the problem. Either way, I've flashed a custom ROM. The problem is gone for me.
Thanks, though.

Sorry for the late response. It seems this may be the case. In fact, if you search the play store PDP does not even show up anymore. Just the "engine" which is not the fully functional app. What's even more strange is PDP does not show up in google play purchase history which seems to happen if they remove the app.
Hello guys, i have Android 5.1.1 and i keep getting the message telling me to update to android 6.0
The thing is that i don't want to update.
Is it any way to prevent this message to keeps appearing?
It's so annoying.
Hope anyone can help me!
Disable the Motorola apps that can be disabled. I think it might be the Motorola notify app. Going off memory because I haven't used stock for a while, but you can disable most of the Moto apps without root.
Simple buddy. Don't disable anything since you are on tock ROM it can break some functionalities.
What you have to do it restart(optional) your phone(its only to get you that update notification) or wait until next pop-up appears as soon as pop-up appears(not so much hurry BTW) press and hold that notification from the notification panel then it's up to you if you have to block the notification or disable the app which causes the notification to pop-up.
Press Thanks if it did helped...

The way that worked for me and a lot of others is by using an app called SD Maid to disable a service on your phone called Motorola Update Services.
Check out this thread over at AC..

That said, I did end up deciding to update to 6.0, and I have zero problems with it.

Why don't update?
Hello
I hope I'm putting this in the right forum, and please be aware that I'm a beginner.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy 7. I replaced the recovery with TWRP and installed SuperSU. I only really wanted to delete all the bloatware on the phone, which I did and then disabled root access again in the SuperSU App.
However, I'm now getting constant security notifications. They say, "threat found" and "unauthorised actions have been detected. Restart your phone to undo these actions", with a big red "Restart" button. It also asks me to install "My Knox" and some Anti-Malware stuff. I suppose McAfee products, as it's all "powered by McAfee".
Do I need to be concerned with these notifications? If not, how do I stop them? If yes, how do I deal with them?
Thanks!
Is it coming in browser popups or in phone? If it is in phone try use an adblock.
It's a notification that's coming up on the actual phone.
Out of curiosity, why would an adblock fix that?
Thanks for your help.
I have a Galaxy S7 (SM-G930T) NOT rooted, and I recently received the Oreo update OTA but HAVE NOT installed Oreo. I don't want this update (mostly because reports indicate that Oreo on the S7 is buggy, drains battery, may possibly brick my phone, and it needlessly changes things). So... I want to know how to remove the persistent notification that is currently on my lock screen, my status bar, and the System icon. I just want my phone to be the way it was before this buggy software was pushed to me against my wishes (even tho I ABSOLUTELY set the phone to MANUAL updates).. How do I remove the persistent notification?
Addendum... I tried Package Disabler Pro +, and it doesn't work on my phone. When I e-mailed the developer, I received the cryptic reply... "Samsung keeps blacklisting package disabler apps on Samsung Android. So Package Disabler Pro + is now available." Which is a nonsensical reply since Package Disabler Pro + is the software I installed and which wouldn't work.
To recap... My phone is still on Nougat! I want it that way. How do I remove the persistent notifications re Oreo?
Thanks in advance for your advice and thoughts.

And now the issue is moot since my phone updated itself in spite of my efforts. And I have a set of new issues with system slowdown and battery drain.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try your solution. My phone updated itself when I inadvertently didn’t put it to sleep properly, the install screen popped up unexpectedly (apparently in my pocket), and somewhere in the jostling the install button was pressed. This shouldn’t happen. If I buy a red car, the dealer or manufacturer shouldn’t be able to turn it blue a year later without my consent. I shouldn’t be required to press a button every time I start the car to keep the car red. Ditto my phone. It’s simply wrong,
In any case, I now have Oreo, and am immediately experiencing all the problems that I was trying to avoid. The phone is about 10 percent slower, and it eats power about 15 percent faster than before. Additionally, all the Google icons now have ugly white borders. My QuickPic app has pink/magenta headings that I can’t change. And there are more problems that I won’t mention. This is a performance downgrade inflicted upon me from an outside corporation. It shouldn’t be legally allowed on a DEVICE I OWN!
I have compiled a list of things that does not work on this Pie update as of now. Tested on S9+ (SM-G965U) with various leaked Pie Builds (Originally SM-G965U1 unlocked, but flashed SM-G965U firmware G965USQUS3ARG8 to install Android Pie).
Build CRI5
Secure Folder. Unable to open the folder even after clearing app data. Clean odin flash, adb sideload then factory reset made it to work.
Dolby Atmos option doesn't function and audio quality is poor/not optimized.
Navigation Gesture. It works partially. Gestures are working properly and it does not hide the Navigation bar in this build like its supposed to. Full Navigation bar appear after swiping up for gestures.
Night Theme Toggle. Night theme is applied throughout the system regardless of updating the option.
Night theme in Messages app is not applied properly, Contact name text color is same as background card color which makes in invisible.
[*]Samsung Galaxy Friends. Found this new option in Accessories which doesn't do anything at this moment. Accessories option in Settings is no longer available after clean flash.
[*]App Icon badges. Doesn't show dot or notification number based on app notification. Its working after Clean Flash.
[*]Typographic View Style for Notification on Lock screen doesn't change anything. Works after clean flash.
[*]Image Detail Swipe up gesture in Camera and Gallery app is glitchy.
[*]Samsung Pay doesn't work if its clean install of Pie update, only works in dirty install.
[*]Samsung Theme is not fully baked. Applying theme from theme store only makes partial changes to the system.
[*]Samsung DeX leaves the screen lit up.
[*]Samsung Gear Device incompatibility. Unable to connect Samsung Gear watches through Galaxy Wearable app. Notice with message "Check weather your system software is compatible or needs to be updated, then try again" appears while trying to pair the device.
Build CRI6
WiFi Call quality is poor.
Secure Folder only works after clean flash.
Smart View or so called Screen Mirroring doesn't connect to device.
Dolby Atmos option seems to have some changes in audio quality but is not fully optimized like in Oreo.
Samsung Pay doesnt work if its clean install of Pie update, only works in dirty install.
Image Detail Swipe up gesture in Camera and Gallery app is glitchy.
Night Theme Toggle seems to make some changes in bit is not fully baked to look nice and prettier yet. It just looks work in progress.
Navigation Gesture. It works partially. Gestures are working properly and it does not hide the Navigation bar in this build like its supposed to. Full Navigation bar appear after swiping up for gestures.
Samsung DeX leaves the screen lit up.
Samsung Theme is not fully baked. Applying theme from theme store only makes partial changes to the system.
Samsung Gear Device incompatibility. Unable to connect Samsung Gear watches through Galaxy Wearable app. Notice with message "Check weather your system software is compatible or needs to be updated, then try again" appears while trying to pair the device.
Bluetooth Media Audio Volume limited the max default threshold. When prompted to increase volume beyond threshold warning doesn't go away after pressing OK. Volume remains the same.
USB Host Mode option is unable to set connected device as host. As a result, unable to use ADB. This issue only appear to be for few select people but its worth mentioning as a issue.
Samsung Cloud doesnt sync images to and from Gallery properly. Its a hit and miss.
Build CRI7
Phone Calls have issue in voice clarity. People on other end complain voice is small and little bit muffled.
WiFi Call quality is poor.
Secure Folder only works after clean flash.
Smart View or so called Screen Mirroring doesn't connect to device.
Dolby Atmos option seems to have some changes in audio quality but is not fully optimized like in Oreo. Fully Optimized and working now

Night theme in Messages app is not applied properly, contact name text color is same as background card color which makes it appear invisible.
Navigation Gesture. It works partially. Gestures are working properly for back and task manager. Home button gesture doesn't work at all and its pretty much non-existence (hard press in place where home button is doesn't do anything at all besides in AoD display.
Dirty Flash is from ARI6 with watch already paired is the only possible way to keep it working.
Galaxy Wearables not syncing text messages to Gear S3. Seems to be issue with Samsung messages app. Works perfectly while using Google Messages app.
SmartThings is unable to download controller for Samsung Smart TV
Build CRJ3
WiFi Call quality is poor.
Secure Folder only works after clean flash.

For AOD try to clear data for Always On Display app from Settings>>Apps>>Show System Apps. That should do the trick.
Samsung Theme is not fully baked yet and is not able to apply theme throughout the system, so I suppose I can add that to the list.
Thanks for the update for DeX, I dont have a DeX with me to try it out but I can add that to the lis as well.
Can you explain more about custom sounds. I am not sure if I understood what you meant.
And what is the build number you are on, is it CRI5 or CRI6? Please let me know, because I have intended to make list based on builds

CRI6 cannot be installed on top of CRI5. Update package looks for Oreo ARG8 and hence fails on installing. To install CRI6 I flashed ARG8 through odin without resetting. I was stuck in bootloop after that but I decided to sideload CRI6 on top of bootlooping ARG8. And surprisingly it worked and i am running CRI6 as of writing this post.

ARG8 LINK: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903988758
Night theme toggle seems to be working. Though light theme has not been fully implemented yet.
Fingerprint sensor is not functional. It keeps saying its not responding while adding fingerprints.
I can see little difference in audio while toggling dolby atmos options. So its seems to be in the work.
Looks like Messages app has updated look. At least the Activity with list of messages. Conversation Activity still has same look. I wonder if app versions are different. Mine is version 10.0.00.19
Havent got enough time to play with other stuffs though

Look like it's not worth to change from 5 to 6 yet
Probably will wait for more stable version
Also if you will go to updates in settings it's still showing ARG8 version
Anybody receiving pictures messages and able to send them with stock messages apk on update
