Lowlight camera purple glare - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Can someone check if their OP6 shows a purplish glare while focusing dark objects in low light enviroment?
It only does this in low light, and only while it is focusing. During daytime or normal light doesn't show any purplish glare.
Thanks!!!

No, there is no dark purple hue in dark areas of my photos.
Your camera may be defective or you installed some kind of an app that does that.
OP will ask you to reset the phone, if you asked for support. But first try to reset the camera app?

I reset the camera app, but nothing happens, the same purple hue appears in dark zones. I also installed google camera and the effect is even worse.

I am testing a theory that Oneplus quality control is less capable in Asian countries compared to western countries.
Did you happen to purchase your phone from an Asian retailer or in an Asian country?

That confirms it. You are useless to my thesis.
Nevertheless, OP sold about 2 million phones. Some are bound to be defective. Perhaps you got a bad camera?

I have this purple effect too... sometimes it disappears with the processing and sometimes it doesn't... But it's not really bothering me...it only shows in really dim situations and I rarely take photos at that time

Me too. I think that is a problem software

I'm not sure. I got some raw format images with the purple effect. I believe that one of the sensor is defective and then affects the image processing, increasing noise.

You should ask in camera thread. You have to check out whether you got Sony sensor or Samsung sensor, Sony one got better details at low light but Samsung may offer better color. Some roms got better camera focus while some builds got worse focus during low light, so it also depends on which rom you are running.
Nowt wrong with those photo's. You won't notice a difference which sensor either except the Samsung sensor will have better detail in shadows, better colour reproduction as well.

No more sharpen edges
After several tests i figureout that HTC apk.... don't take any better photo =) In my samples on HTC cam apk HDR was turned on... and on the stock one OFF.
SO... If you want less sharpened pictures in AUTO mode just turn on HDR. on your stock s7 cam-app =)
Hello to all!
I love S7 and his camera... but... over-sharpening is big prob. for auto mode.
I found in this thread HTC camera that has less sharpening than stock one.
App is rudimental no fancy working options but for point & shot is working like boss!

And here are examples.. check the edges of the buildings.
I would like to see your tests... my camera is ISOCELL.

I tested for couple of days... and i can say that shared HTC camera gives better results even in stock PRO mode. (in term of sharpening edges etc)
For all users that find AUTO shots over-sharpened - just try this cam
Update 1st post...
dont experience this issue at all with the S7 flat sony sensor
Uhh, the HTC cam just took a darker photo so the halo around building edges was less obvious. Look at the other details. Sharpening is the same. Shoot Pro mode + RAW if you don't want any post-processing.
Turning on HDR is no solution for the over sharpening. It's a totally different kind of thing.
HDR can help in some situations (mostly those with dark and light in one frame), but on many situations I recommend not using HDR , especially indoors.
Also when you turn on HDR lots of people have this pinkspot problem so on the samsung sensor so HDR isn't that good.

is there another app for video , With less sharpened video ?
Yes, luckily there is - called "Cinema 4K". Unfortunately, it doesn't support 3840x2160 for "4K" in conjunction with the S7 but the rather obscure resolution of 3264x2448 instead.
Biggest advance is the possibility to completely turn off any sharpening or noise reduction so one gets a way more "filmic" result.

A Couple Of Questions Regarding The Purchase Of A New Mate.

Good evening folks.
My Note 4 perished by cat and I've settled on a Mate 9 as my replacement phone. I have a couple of questions to those who own it before purchase though.
1.) How easy does the camera glass scratch? That was quite the issue for my Note 4. Will I require a full case to avoid image quality degradation by scratches?
2.) Are the new phone cases (not refurbished) sealed in any fashion from the factory. There are no official outlets here and I'm worried about buying a refurbished dud.
3.) Does the white version really feel like it's made out of Ceramic?
4.) I'd love to see some .dng low light / night and landscape sample images I could do some Photoshop magic on. I'm a photographer at heart and can't quite find anything but .jpegs out there.
Your help would be much appreciated! ^v^

Thank you very much for your reply! It seems that the raw files can't be opened in my favorite DXO Optics Played around with some Photosop. It seems quite formidable to preserve details, but I see some noise in the recovered shadows / flat dark areas. The white balance errs a bit on the cool side of things. And you have a very comfy looking sofa, that made me feel sleepy :>I guess I'll just have to get used to it. My main interests are weather photography, as well as landscapes. I am sure I can make it work for my purposes.
Does a lens correction profile exist for this camera at all?

I do mean correction of lens geometry and I guess vignetting as well yes. Does such a thing even exist for this model? In all other aspects it seems to be mostly like a professional camera. I also mean that Photoshop does not have the correction information for the shot, like say Nexus 6P has (at least judging by the list of supported cameras in PS).

In Photoshop there is lens correction in filters menu.
Yes exif data is not available, maybe need an updated camera raw software.
In my opinion the camera is very good and using the manual mode you can easily take great photos.

I also noticed that the JPEG processing algorithm does wonders to reduce the noise! Alas I'm very obsessed over shooting everything in .dng / RAW!
There is lens correction, but I can't find support for this phone / lens combination. Without such a profile the correction is useless. EXIF data is all there, as far as I can see with IrfanView and it all looks legit. Phone model, exposure time, F-Stop, etc. Why would you say EXIF isn't available? Can't you see it?
I couldn't see it in Photoshop but with acdsee pro it's there.
I was comparing the raw files from my p9 and it seems they are better than mate 9.
Not sure why but i will do more test tomorrow.

Yeah, soon 0200 in the night and I'ms till awake. All those thoughts swarming in my head. Another thing I'd love to see is dark noise comparison. So ISO 100, 30-second exposures with the lenses closed with both P9 and Mate 9. That's quite an important figure in photography. What do the sensors show, when there's nothing to show.

I did a quick enhance on those dark images in Photoshop and it seems indeed that the two phones run completely different imaging hardware. The P9 had a bit of amp glow on the top and bottom of the image, while the Mate 9 had a darker circle in the middle and overall much less noise. Very interesting, also none of those two files had EXIF in them this time. Not sure what to think about it all. Am I just doing silly things?
Another question I have before purchase is would it be possible to tell of a re-branded version, if I aim to get the EU 64GB one? May I get a re-flashed Chinese one instead? Is there a surefire way to tell of a genuine L29 was it?

Yes. I use the night display on Gentle Alarm every night. The nighttime darkness of the OLED screen is one of the reasons I waited for this device, along with no bezels, wireless charging and too much RAM. The only strange thing I've noticed is purple pulsing when Radio FM is on and the screen is off, but I think that's a "feature" since I updated to the weekly eu ROM.

Black crushing on OP7 Pro?

I have been searching for it around and haven't found any workaround. The black colour/darker colours look pixelated. It's never captured in screenshot/screen recorder so can't really post a screenshot here. Is this a software issue or a hardware one? It's usually visible on lower brightness, <40% and only in live wallpapers and videos, Netflix and Youtube. The display with black/darker colours looks really bad. The dark theme colours are fine though. It's just videos and anything that's moving.

Yes. It only happens in low light. And I went to OnePlus service center and they have good lightning inside the store and it wasn't visible. They told me to record a video of the content playing with black crush. And when I do that using my old iphone 6, the black crush doesn't look in the video.
Also, I recently discovered turning off Video Enhancer lessens the Black crush a lot.
