No more sharpen edges
After several tests i figureout that HTC apk.... don't take any better photo =) In my samples on HTC cam apk HDR was turned on... and on the stock one OFF.
SO... If you want less sharpened pictures in AUTO mode just turn on HDR. on your stock s7 cam-app =)
Hello to all!
I love S7 and his camera... but... over-sharpening is big prob. for auto mode.
I found in this thread HTC camera that has less sharpening than stock one.
App is rudimental no fancy working options but for point & shot is working like boss!
APK link
And here are examples.. check the edges of the buildings.
I would like to see your tests... my camera is ISOCELL.

You could try shooting in pro mode. I found this post on reddit with settings/profiles to make it less sharp looking so maybe you will like this as much as i do. (click)

Nice!
I tested for couple of days... and i can say that shared HTC camera gives better results even in stock PRO mode. (in term of sharpening edges etc)
For all users that find AUTO shots over-sharpened - just try this cam
Update 1st post...
dont experience this issue at all with the S7 flat sony sensor
Uhh, the HTC cam just took a darker photo so the halo around building edges was less obvious. Look at the other details. Sharpening is the same. Shoot Pro mode + RAW if you don't want any post-processing.
Turning on HDR is no solution for the over sharpening. It's a totally different kind of thing.
HDR can help in some situations (mostly those with dark and light in one frame), but on many situations I recommend not using HDR , especially indoors.
Also when you turn on HDR lots of people have this pinkspot problem so on the samsung sensor so HDR isn't that good.

is there another app for video , With less sharpened video ?
Yes, luckily there is - called "Cinema 4K". Unfortunately, it doesn't support 3840x2160 for "4K" in conjunction with the S7 but the rather obscure resolution of 3264x2448 instead.
Biggest advance is the possibility to completely turn off any sharpening or noise reduction so one gets a way more "filmic" result.

Hi folks
I've spent some time today playing around with Note 3 camera and I got mixed feelings.
It is clear that when there is light, the camera gets quite nice results but, what the hell is going on in interiors/low light?
Is it possible that my note N7000 gets sharper pictures in low light than the N9005?
I really hope this is a software issue, for your good Samsung

Could you please recomend one?
I use to have camera ICS+ in the N7000 because the volume buttons can be used as shooter button, quality was good too
Sure. For instance, Camera ZoomFX. Indoor under fluorescent looks much better.
Ucam is another. Not bad either.
Or Procapture, or FV5.
Stock Camera is horrible. It has no options to set the ISO, meaning that in low-light it automatically picks the highest settings, which has the most noise.

No experience with either. Which do you prefer and why? Thx.
That's odd. I and another owner also found the stock camera way worse than the n7000.
note 2 has more contrast and the photos don't seem washed out.
Also it focused faster.
Gonna try other apps.

As a photographer, I very much like the manual options in ProCapture. I still have not found anything that can match my dslr in terms of manual setting, but that comes closest.
Fv5 also has many of the settings I'm used to. It's quicker at saving the image, Procapture always needs time to process the shot, so for multiple pictures fv5 is better.
Shotcontrol is also a decent one.

That's great info, thanks.
Photography is a passion for me, too. I got rid of my last phone because of the camera. This one is very usable and I will be keeping my N3. I'll try both apps you suggested - already downloaded them - as soon as I can. Thanks, again!
Edit - Missed the third app you mentioned and have downloaded it now.

That's weird. On my stock N9005, when I open the camera and hit the menu button for camera options, I have the ISO settings menu, from which I can choose Auto, 100, 200, 400, or 800.

Have noticed if shooting in lots light with image stabilization on there is a lot of grading noise in a ring around the edges of the shoot.
The noise is not there with stabilization off.

Anyone have issues with the flash on close up shots in a dark area. Like taking a picture in my pc case. It basically comes out as a white picture. I basically can't take a picture like this, tried stock camera and pro capture.
Maybe its a setting thing?
thats how it normally would be with any camera and a close up(macro) with a flash. you have to manually turn down the exposure before shooting that kind of photograph.

If you want very nice and sharp photos than you have to install "Bacon Camera" for your Samsung. We hope that someone can do a mod like Google Pixel Quality.
What does bacon camera do that is better than stock? Stock app is good all around but low lighting, it tends to tint red
The photos are sharper and have less noise. The tint problem will be fixed with an update I think
The only reason Gcam is better than Samsung's is because Google uses machine learning and it's massive database for that, I don't think this camera has these at its disposal.
Edit: This app doesn't support camera2 API, meaning you actually have very little control of what the hardware can do and all changes are software edited.
You can also try Footej Camera
Samsung pro mode is better than most of the copy cat apps in the play store. The only thing that works better is the gcam mod for front facing selfie portraits because of the machine learning blur.
The stock app, and the gcam, are the only camera apps you need.
But gcam is Not Working at this moment for s9+

I really want the Drama Photo effect from my Galaxy S4. Any idea where I can find this or an app that is like it. This effect will take 4 to 7 shots of a moving subject, and then stitch it together to show the movement of someone. thanks
I don't know any app that give you this. But for me personally I tried yesterday some versions of the gcam mod. Only one version is working a little bit. But picture quality is amazing. I hope someone do a full working mod for our dual camera than you have a Google Pixel camera with Samsung hardware.

It does, but most company besides Google have white balance issue.
Gcam doesnt do low light from what I see. Stock does very well in low light
Is really google camera that good compared to stock samsung camera?
Low-light photo quality sorta depends on the situation. If taking photos outside in low lighting, if you can keep your hands PERFECTLY still, the results can look better than the Pixel 2, but if we're talking consistency, I'd choose the Pixel 9 times out of 10. If taking photos inside in low lighting, especially when the subject is people or food, the quality comes out super soft. Some people like it, but it looks terrible to me. In these situations, I'd choose the Pixel 2 every single time, as it's consistent.
@jassu what app do you mean?
After hours and hours of testing and depleting my battery twice in a day, I can safely say that I found a google camera which has front facing camera working with HDR+ and also portrait mode working.
On top of that the quality of the pictures taken with the rear camera were also very high quality. So far it's working on latest MIUI 10 Global Beta as well as custom roms like latest AEX.
The gcam I'm talking about is the CameraX-V2.apk from alone_in_dark https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-alone_in_dark/
HDR+Enhanced doesn't work on front camera, so remember to switch back to HDR+ after you use it on rear camera.

It works only if you take one in good light and don't close the app/change modes/open gallery. That's not a repeatable nor reliable in any lightning condition except in daylight. So it was already known issue which is yet to be fixed.

Another thing, if your photos load after you take them with gcam then it means they are HDR+ photos, if it's instant it's not HDR+. All the photos I take with Gcam front are loading 2 seconds before they show up.
Edit: Best thing would be to wait for someone skilled to mod a gcam for our device.

Not only that, with Gcam minimal it also works and with HDR+ Enhanced. If you take a picture with the front panel in low light then they work in low light until you close the application or change it. Gcam is to tell the camera that you have taken a very bright picture before.
It's still not working in low light. It's not a repeatable pattern to make it work.

No, it is a pattern. With enhanced HDR+, Make yourself a selfie with good light, it works. Without closing the application and without entering the gallery, enter an interior, it will work until you close or change the application.
Therefore, if you could get the front camera to believe that you had taken a picture in good light when you entered it would work.

I was doing that before the OP found out about it, I know the trick, but that's not the point, it still doesn't trigger in conditions other than bright daylight, do you understand that?
You can't go out every time just to make the camera work, and what about conditions worse than that, where are you going to find bright enough light to trick the camera, for example when you are going out in the evening? Even indoors during the day you have a hard time triggering it.
Cirra92 said:

Ok, but there is a pattern. Until now there was nothing. It's probably something to do with the default aperture value of the lens or something similar. For some reason, after taking a photo with good light conditions those values change. It would be enough to modify the initial values by the new ones.... But they need some interested developers.
No need to be angry, I'm just trying to help.

20:9 with stock
16:9 with Gcam
I couldn´t believe my eyes when I got indoors and was about to make a little youtube video for night shot comparison. I couldn´t make the video as some of the nightscape pictures looked awful, grainy and not at all like the preview.
Since I can´t choose 16:9 with stock cam I had to go with 4:3 or fullscreen ... and I never take 4:3 shots. Maybe some settings within the camera options?
The problem is OnePlus doesn't have the resources to develop good image processing.
This camera is very lovable until switch to nightscape. Hopefully you didn't take picture to someone or would've seen a cartoon of that person. Skip nightscape setting until Oneplus hire a decent camera developer. Meanwhile attach to the regular photo mode that takes great pictures.

Pictures at night if there is a little artificial light actually work out better for me with just the normal camera, no nightscape. Gcam does do a better job though since it actually reduces glare on stuff like street lamps, the stock cam on normal doesn´t do that.
They should just work on an entirely new software approach, what they have just isn´t working and I don´t think updates are going to do much. It´s just more or less of the same.

I read a thread on the OnePlus forums about Nightscape.
It seems that the timing of the capture complete message is off and the camera team is aware of it and making adjustments.
I tried it myself last night and on the first shot I stayed still for a little bit longer after the message came up. Second shot as soon as the message came up I moved the phone away like I was done taking the picture.
You can see the difference in quality between the two.
