I'm looking for a no contract phone plans where users receive cell phone services in an inexpensive, flexible way. These plans are recommended for people seeking the most economical way to have a cell phone. The first thing I did when choosing a cell phone plan is to find out what companies have decent coverage in my home and in the areas I frequent.
When it comes to cell phone plans, you can go with one of the big cell phone providers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon) or opt for a smaller company's (Mint Mobile, Ting Mobile, Red Pocket and FreedomPop) they even have their pros and cons. After doing a little research I found many cell phone plans you can purchase threw eBay, Amazon and Best Buy at a much better price then going directly threw the carrier or there website.
If you have a good plan or using a plan listed in this post, please let us know your experience. Thanks!

300Mbit/s DNA in Finland. Unlimited, around $20/month.

Red Pocket Mobile Tethering
It looks like Red Pocket Mobile doesn't support tethering, but eBay has 360 day unlimited plans for $19.00 a month that is great, now I would like to find a plan that supports tethering at that price.

MintMobile
MintMobile Bulk Pricing On Wireless!
Purchase 6 months at $15 a month Mint SIM include unlimited talk, text, and 2G data, with the choice of 2GB, 5GB, or 10GB of LTE data and tethering. Currently, the three-month plans have been discounted to the 12-month plans rates as a teaser offer, making them a better deal than the six-month plans. I like that Mint SIM allows tethering for WIFI calling, many of the other plans I have found don't include tethering for this price.
Mint SIM doesn’t offer domestic roaming, but it does have international roaming plans. It offers a flat rate of five cents per outbound text (inbound are free) and 25 cents per minute for voice calls in nearly 150 countries. Mexico and Canada’s rates are discounted at two cents per text and six cents per minute of voice calling.
Mint SIM - Official Website
3 months of wireless service (regular price $23/month)
2GB of 4G LTE data per month; speeds reduce after monthly allowance
Unlimited talk, text and data delivered on the nation’s fastest, most advanced 4G LTE network
Includes FREE international calls to Mexico and Canada
With our BYOP program, bring your own unlocked GSM phone (you love it, cracks and all)
Prepaid SIM card includes standard, micro and nano sizes for that perfect, Cinderella-like fit
Mobile HotSpot: turn your device into a WiFi hotspot
If anyone has tried Mint SIM, please let me know what kind of experience you had. Thanks

Ting Mobile
Ting Mobile Pay As You Go!
Ting uses Sprint and T-Mobile carriers, If you're not looking for unlimited use and don't use much data, then Ting could work for you. It looks great if your like me as far as phone use is concerned, I usually use WiFi for calling when I need to use my phone and internet purposes. It looks to be a good alternative when you need a phone for traveling in case of emergency and still be able to connect to WiFi when you reach your destination. if you can deal with a few drawbacks, you can save a lot of money.
Ting offers customization levels of service after paying a flat $6 monthly line charge. Usage is categorized into tiers: The first 1 to 100 minutes, for example, cost $3, the next tier $9, and the next $18. There are also tiers for SMS and data usage. The company’s complete rates are on its official Ting website. A moderate usage plan of 100 voice minutes, 100 texts, and 1GB data would end up costing $28 on Ting.
Ting offers free domestic roaming for voice and text, and international roaming for GSM phones in numerous countries around the world. Pricing for international roaming can be quite high, however. If you aren’t bringing your own phone, Ting sells devices directly for a lump sum or financing via Affirm.
If you’re thinking of moving to Ting, the company says it will pay 25 percent of the early termination fee (ETF) from your current carrier up to $75.

MintMobile (Formerly MintSim) For me!!
I don't use too much data.. And T-mobile has good service in my area. SO I've totally fallen in love with MintMobile [tmobile mvno]! you can pay in 3/6/12 month increments. I pay the 12 month for about 180ish? Which averages out to about $15/mo.
The "catch" is that this is only for 2gb data. Unlimited minutes/texts though. Some people have had issues testing the "unlimited" part but I don't use my phone for too much other than Reddit haha.
They also support wifi calling!!!
btw. they also have 5gb and 10gb plans.

After posting above post #4 regarding Mint Mobile and your experience, I'm really liking what MintMobile plans are offering. I noticed if your a first time subscriber you can go for the three month plan with unlimited text and talk with 2gb of data for $45.00 and a risk free 7-day money back guarantee. Then If you like the service you can get the same $15.00 a month service if you choose the 12 month plan. Looks to be a great choice for people that don't mind using WiFi at home or traveling using free hotspots to save on data.

Cell Phone Usage Manager
What's Your Real Time & Monthly Cell Plan Usage App
I have been looking at some of the less expensive pre-paid plans for my phone and noticed there wasn't to many android applications that will keep track of your phone plan usage so I don't go over my call, sms and data plan amount. I found one called dodol Phone (data, call, Text) that uses google services but will still run without gapps installed, this app provides real-time daily and monthly usage report and you can also setup custom limits. I just started using this app and it has several issues with translation and crashing when adjusting setting. Be nice to find a open source app with dual SIM card compatibility.
I use Yalp Store to download applications I can't find on F-Droid, plus Yelp Store can do a Exodus Privacy Scan to see how many trackers the application has, this one has 14. I use two security applications to block or send fake data to trackers, one is AFWall+ that works as a firewall and XPrivacyLua that feeds apps fake data instead of real data. One thing I just noticed I like with this app, from the notifications bar pull down you can see the dodol Phone (data, call, Text) usage menu or you can also use there widget. It would be great to find a open source application similar to this one. So if you have a better alternative, please let me know... Thanks!

Getting Started
So what do you get for $0.99? That first month will give you 100% unlimited talk and text, as well as 4GB of data. Your phone will be using the Nationwide 4G LTE Network, so you know you’ll have excellent connectivity.
Downgrade to the 100% Free Basic Plan Before Your 14 Day Trial Ends!. Unlike many mobile service providers, FreedomPop does not require any contracts and it levies no termination fees (or any of the other don’t-let-the-door-hit-you-on-the-way-out fees), which means your free 14 day trial is truly free.
Before the 14 days ends, you have several options for continuing with FreedomPop’s service, including the option of downgrading to their 100% Free Basic Plan. As long as you downgrade to the 100% Free Basic Plan within 14 days of starting your free trial, you’ll enjoy continuous free service. Try FreedomPop for free.
The 100% Free Basic Plan offers you 200 voice minutes, 500 texts, and 200MB of data per month—which you’ll probably recognize as fairly low talk, text and data numbers. In particular, the 200MB of data would be insufficient for anyone who has regular data needs, including anyone who streams music or podcasts from their phones.
FreedomPop specifically states that their free service is meant for light users, which translates to being able to check email and browse Facebook on the go rather than watch YouTube videos in all of your downtime.

e.g. in germany an unlimited data plan is normaly unaffordable
what do you pay for your unlimited data plan?
I for one pay £20 per month for 1000 txt, 600 minutes and unlimited data
edit: that's on O2 btw
I don't believe any of the phone providers (certainly in the UK), offer actual unlimited data.
They have the wording "Unlimited Data" but then say that you are bound by their "Fair Usage Policy" which caps the usage.
When I was looking for mine, I looked around and the 4 large providers in the UK
O2 - 200mb (This was a while ago and might be slightly out of date now)
Vodafone -500mb
T-Mobile - 1000mb
Orange - 500mb
All applied the usage policies, but say "Unlimited" on their plan details.
If you are getting true unlimited data (not wifi), it would be interesting to see (certainly for me at least).
in germany i think with vodafone you have to pay at least 35 euro (~32 gbp) for JUST the data plan (there are no free minutes or sms included). and beside the the data plan, you still need a "normal" phone plan/contract, which is appr. another 10 euros at least.

Tmobile UK
I can confirm that Tmobile uk offer 3GB fair usage (however they do not charge you for going over) I have a HD2 and a Diamond 2 both with unlimited data, unlimited texts and 1000 minutes. It sets me back about £30 per handset on the business plan.
As far as I am aware T-Mobile UK only offer 1Gb - to consumers. 3Gb for business users only.
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/terms-and-conditions/combi/
Under Combi on selected phones with free unlimited* internet on your phone
This option comes with a fair use policy of 1GB a month.
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/terms-and-conditions/flext/
Under the very first section it says.
This plan comes with a fair use policy of 1GB a month.
As far as I know, T-Mobile only do 3Gb on G2 (Hero) and Pulse to consumers.
hmm wow it sure is different in other countries..
in singapore here, 12GB data plan + voice plans costs only S$39, which is arnd US$50+..
and 12gb is hardly fully utilised even with tethering.
Hello to all,
Here in Croatia I pay 50 eur and get 3 GB, 400 min, 200 sms and 50 mms, and I can speak for free with all numbers from my company.

I think you got the conversion wrong. I doubt USD is smaller than SGD at this point in time.
I guess that were kind of spoiled in Sweden.. about 4-5 USD for unlimited data plan, inc HSDPA. About 25 USD i get a twin SIM so i can have unlimited data on 2 sims. Kind of nice imo No mothly cost on the twin sim too btw
EDIT: Well, thats for 500mb. If i add about a 10 USD or so i get unlimited
I have to pay additional 10€/month for my data plan with my german provider.
(Base, its a children of E-Plus)

[Q] Changing carriers?

Hey everyone, I've been with virgin mobile for 2 years now, and they are raising their rates on their plans and cutting data usage in half. (I'm very mad that they are making us pay more for fewer features) My brother also has virgin mobile and we were wondering what carrier has unlimited text, at least 500 minutes and good data rates. We figured we'd do a family plan, so $70/mo total for the family plan would be the same price as our individual plans on virgin mobile after they change their prices, ($70 divided by 2 is $35)
So, what U.S. carrier has unlimited text, decent amount of minutes (~500) and data? The carrier also has to have android, can't live without that
Technically T-Mobile's data is still unlimited. However the speed of connection drops to about 2G speeds once you reach the limit of what you pay for. Their family plan (1000 minutes, unlimited text, data) runs about 70-80, and of course that's not including your data package.
That is about all I know in regards to the different carriers. I just felt it would be worth mentioning their data is technically unlimited still.
Sprint has a plan, I think it's 69.99/mo. It includes 450 minutes, any mobile any time, unlimited text, pictures, and video, unlimited data, e mail, and gps. And i think if that's the plan you pick, you might be able to get 300 bonus minutes/ mo. This is for only one line though.
Sorry to bump the thread, but the issue has been resolved. turns out, existing customers will not be affect by the price change, only new ones.

T-Mobile, Walmart $30 No Contract Plan?

From the article:
"T-Mobile and Wal-Mart announced this morning a new pre-paid offering that will only be available direct from Walmart stores and through Wal-Mart and T-Mobile.com. Beginning October 16th, T-Mobile and Walmart will unveil a $30 unlimited web and text Monthly4G plan with 100 minutes of talk, with 10 cents per minute after the first 100 minutes."
This is interesting. I might switch to this since I rarely use minutes. And apparently we can use our Sensation 4G.
I might switch to this as well
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G Running Bulletproof
get that, then use google voice for phone talk (free for now) = win.
Google Voice on the phone is not a VOIP service. It uses tour cell service/minutes to make calls.
There is a way to make Google Voice into a VOIP device but it's not a native capability and you have to sign up for other 3rd party services and do all kinds of stuff to get it to work.
I use lots of minutes, thousands.
Not many will be able to stay under 100 .
Thats when the .10 cents a minute kicks in heheh.
Also T-Mobile still offers no contract Monthly4G plans:
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/monthly-4g-plans
Unlimited Everything, and 5Gigs of High Speed Data is $70/month.
I currently have an older plan, 500 minutes, Unlimited Txt and 5Gigs of HS Data for $59/month.
So yeah, this $30 plan isn't that great, especially if you use your phone as a *GASP* phone.

This isnt a bad deal since I barely use minutes thanks to wifi calling but I think ill stick with my $40 a month for 500 minutes and unlimited text/5gb web

[Q] Cheapest 4G home internet option

Hi,
I will be moving onto a houseboat on saturday and am looking for an internet solution.
I am hoping to find the cheapest plan that offers me good speeds and unlimited data (if not at least a lot of GBs, MIN 10)
I will be living in marina del rey, in los angeles.
I am currently using a samsung galaxy S 1 (GT-i9000m) with straighttalk as my carrier. I pay 45$ a month for unlimited talk text and web (though the reviews say that if you go over 2GB you will likely get disconnected), the fineprints say that i am not allowed to do mobile hotspot on this plan (and they dont have an option to add that feature) but I use it everyday on the bus for webbrowsing and have not yet received any notifications (2 months in)
I would like to buy a seperate mobile hotspot device (be it a cheap used phone, or a dedicated device) and use it as my internet router on the boat. I also refuse to sign a contract, so am only considering monthly plans.
I am a heavy data consumer who sometimes uses over 100GB a month, but if need be, i will curb my habits when on the boat.
I have already done a somewhat rudimentary comparison of my options which i will list below.
T-Mobile has a cheap hotspot device for 40$ here http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/cell-phone-detail.aspx?class=prepaid&cell-phone=T-Mobile-4G-Mobile-HotSpot-No-Annual-Contract-Refurbished
and they have a plan that has unlimited 4G speeds for the first 5GBs for only 30$ a month. http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/monthly-4g-plans
I do not think I would be allowed to hotspot on this plan, and i do not know if they have an option to add that feature for xx$
also, that hotspot device is not LTE compatible (i think), but could I get LTE speeds on that plan if i bought an LTE hotspot phone/device?
Virgin Mobile has a plan for 35$ that claims unlimited 4G (though the fineprints say that only the first 10GB are 4g speeds), this plan is made for hotspots, so theres no problems there. http://www.virginmobileusa.com/mobile-broadband-plans/broadband-2-go/overview/
and they have hotspots for 80$ here http://www.virginmobileusa.com/shop...-2-go/sierra-overdrive-pro/features/#features
MetroPCS has a reasonable offer as well
they have a 55$ plan that has true unlimited LTE service http://www.metropcs.com/metro/detail/per+month+4GLTE/4G4ME55
but i have been told by one of their reps that I cannot hotspot with this plan and cannot pay to add that feature.
Would they know if i put their SIM in a hotspot device and used it as such?
Which hotspot device would work well with MetroPCS LTE?
I think those are the only options i have found.
do you guys know of any other ones?
did i miss anything?
how does the carrier know if i am tethering?
thanks!

T-Mobile could very well limited those plan to non-phone devices such as tablet.
Those plans are for tablets only, not phones. They don't provide airtime and if you tried to activate it on a phone, it most likely wouldn't even work.
Thank you for your reply! How about activate those plans via non-phone device such as tablet then insert activated SIM into Nexus 5, will it work?

Doubt it will. If they don't want you using it on a phone, then you won't be able to.
Using PC or phone to try to activate a new SIM for data only plan simply would not work. I got stuck with ConnectMe from T-Mobile web page and could not go any further.
As a result, I went to Walmart to buy a T-Mobile 4G Mobile HotSpot - Orange. I had visited a total of four Walmart stores. Only the fourth store still have the device in stock. The price is $49.88 plus 9% sales tax. Total came out as $54.37. The device package came with a SIM that includes 5 GB of data available for three months from first use. This means that my monthly mobile phone cost has further gone down to $18.13 from $30 as I have been using $30 per month pre-paid plan with 100 minutes talk, unlimited text and data with first 5 GB up to LTE speeds. However, my actual usage has been less than 10 minutes talk (due to wrong number or telemarketing as I do not give out this mobile phone number at all), few test texts with about a dozen free T-Mobile text messages (information from T-Mobile) and only about 600 MB data consumed each month. This is because I usually have Wi-Fi access except driving. When I drive, I can hardly use phone except making and receiving calls and check traffic condition. Therefore, I felt the $30 mobile phone service was over bought.
T-Mobile 4G Mobile HotSpot - Orange only support up to HSPA+ speeds. Once my phone was connected to the device via Mi-Fi, I opened the web browser to go to http://www.t-mobile.com/ConnectMe, it stated they had been waiting for me! I simply gave name, e-mail address, password and ZIPcode, then I was connected. Speed tests showed much slower than LTE speeds, like about 5 mbps down and 1 mbps up with over 100 ms ping. VoIP worked stationary, have not tested when driving.
Since the SIM for T-Mobile 4G Mobile HotSpot - Orange uses regular size (big) SIM, I had to cut it down to the size of micro SIM (medium) to fit into Google Lexus 5 by LG. Once the cut down size SIM inserted into Google Lexus 5 by LG and turned on the phone, it showed it is connected to LTE signals. Speed tests show about 25 mbps down and 20 mbps up with 40 ms ping. VoIP as well as all other data required apps work fine. T-Mobile did assign a 10 digits telephone number like device number based on ZIPcode entered by me. However, calling the device number got recording saying "At subscriber's request, this phone does not accept incoming call, message CA***58"; where *** means 3 digits number that changed every time when called. Sending text to the device number will get auto-reply stating "Free Msg: Receiver 1NPANXXYYYY unable to receive message - Message Blocking is active. Date: 09/29/2014 6:02 am"; where NPANXXYYYY is the 10 digits device number. Therefore, I am indeed getting mobile version of cutting landline telephone -- only getting Internet access from phone (like dry loop DSL) or cable company.
Log into My T-Mobile Online | Access Messages, Minutes & Bills | T-Mobile, it shows I have "Nexus 5 (D820)". In other words, T-Mobile is aware of I am using phone instead of T-Mobile 4G Mobile HotSpot - Orange (which had showed as "MF61 Liberty") or tablet, but still allow it.
I tried to port out the DID with $30 pre-paid phone to Ring.to. T-Mobile rejected it due to invalid account number despite per Find your account number | T-Mobile Support, my pre-paid account number should be the phone number. I had to print My T-Mobile Online web pages for $30 pre-paid plan into PDF files then e-mail to Ring.to support to finally have T-Mobile releases the DID to Ring.to today.
I am aware of T-Mobile plans to restore Pay in Advance Mobile Internet Monthly Passes for 1 GB from currently $10 back to $20 by the end of this year. If they indeed are doing that which I highly doubt it since it will have higher price than Sprint, my back up plan is to buy FreedomPop Freedom Spot MiFi 500 LTE (it appears this is the only Mi-Fi device they have that supports LTE) for about $162 including sales tax, shipping & handling and always place this Mi-Fi device in my car as I do not go places without my car. My phone will always connect to this Mi-Fi device whenever I do not have Wi-Fi. I consider this back up plan as paying one and half year of mobile data only service in advance for about $10 per month. What do you guys think?

Updated information as of 2014-10-06:
On Tuesday, September 30, 2014 after 7 p.m. I had people telling me in person that I was not answering call. I checked and found out all softphone apps went offline. I used web browser to check web sites, only could reach T-Mobile sites. Eventually, I had to place the SIM back into T-Mobile 4G Mobile HotSpot - Orange and had phone connect to the HotSpot, then Internet connection was restored but with HSPA+ instead of LTE.
Consequently, since Wednesday, October 1, 2014, I have gone back to T-Mobile $30 per month pre-paid plan with 100 minutes talk, unlimited text and data with first 5 GB up to LTE mobile network technology via a new SIM.
Upon additional search, I found out T-Mobile phone and data SIMs are not interchangeable between phone and tablet.
As a result, Red Pocket data-only plan is the only option now. One can get first ½ GB for just 1¢ that is what I am going to try next.
