Bricked HTC U11 after complete discharge - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my HTC U11, kind of strange problem. About month ago I have installed newest TWRP recovery and updated to latest rev. of LeeDroid. Everything was working 100% fine.
Few days ago I let my phone discharge completly and after that there is completly no reaction to anything - charging led does not even light. I tried to keep it plugged in to charger for 24 hours, I tried doing hard reset as described on HTC website to push power + vol up + vol down for 2 minutes.
The phone did not fall down or anything. I would not suspect broken usb port as I never had slightest problems with it. Plugging it to PC does nothing, PC does not see it at all.
Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated!

Battery failure. Needs a new one.

My phone do not react to charger and usb headphones when android is on. If i switch off phone, I may start charge and may plyg phone and then if I switch phone on, charging will continue and phones will work, but until next replug.
Running latest OTA update.

It's dead Jim.

OK, never had any auto resets, just had to manually restart often to cure various ills. Then yesterday it was stuck on the dimmest backlight setting. This morning picked it up from charging overnight and it's 100% dead. Switched batteries, plugged it into various computers and USB power sources. Dead.
Anyone brought a G2x back to life?
Have you tried a wall charger? If your battery discharges completely, like deader than dead, then sometimes you have to plug it into a wall charger and leave it there for several minutes before the phone will even show its connected to a charger.
I guess the real question to ask first is, what did you have it plugged in to? What kind of charger? Was it plugged into a surge protector?
It was plugged into the LG wall charger it came with overnight. I tried a iGo USB wall -> USB power supply and a USB port on my desktop windows PC.

It depends on how dead it is, if its a hardware defect of some sort then you're probably SOL. But, you don't have to be able to turn it on per se to use NVFlash, so if I were you I would try to see if you can get the device to be recognized using the APX drivers. If you can, then you might have a chance.
My G2x died after freaking up during one of the Davlik cache clears....
It originally would boot up and get stuck at "LG", but after a while it was completely unresponsive (not even a Boot Logo) and wouldn't even turn on. I thought it was fried. Luckily we have NVFlash that you can use without booting the phone up.
Take the battery out and press and hold the VOL keys, then plug it in. Your PC should "ping" letting you know something was connected. Then just reflash a recovery.
I did this a ton of times and it didn't work at first. I kept flashing stock then CWM, then stock, then CWM (different versions too). Eventually it displayed the LG logo and allowed me to boot into CWM where I flashed a new rom.
Been solid ever since.
I also read about this in the Asus Transformer forums (cause I just picked one up) and read about a guy experiencing the same thing.
Worth a shot. The NVFlash method will at least let you know if it is DEAD or just not working. If NVFlash doesn't connect then it is hosed. If NVFlash connects and accepts a new recovery, then something just got corrupted.
All good now! I unplugged, removed battery, let sit a while. Put the battery back in and it booted! Yet more strange behaviour from the G2x, but as usually I get it working again and stick with this phone.
But today I got a second from craigslist to play with alternate ROMs. Trying CM7.1 RC1 first, it's working pretty good on my Nook.

HTC One X Suddenly won't power on!

Hi guys!
I bought my new HTC One X on contract with three UK about 10 days ago. Been working great and I've flashed several different roms on it, the latest being the AOKP jelly bean.
I was in the middle of setting up my Go Launcher last night, when the phone suddenly died. I thought it must have just crashed following some rom/kernel issue, so I tried to turn it back on, no luck. Also tried holding the power button down but to no avail.
I supposed that it might have run out of battery, as it was fairly low at the time, so I left it charging on USB (with the indicator light flashing) all through the night (around 9 hours) and this morning it still won't turn on.
The screen won't come up at all, and the phone doesn't vibrate or make any noise but if I connect it to my computer it will sometimes be detected and I can see the device in ADB.
"adb devices" first shows the device as offline, then if I run "adb kill-server" and try again then it shows the device as "HT23YW105462 recovery".
I've then tried running commands such as "adb reboot", "adb reboot-bootloader", "adb reboot -p" but no luck. The phone seems to recognize the command as it disconnects, but it doesn't turn back on.
Any theories guys? I hope my new toy hasn't been bricked somehow! If this happened to my Desire HD I'd just take the battery out to make sure it was fully off and try again... is this a good idea here?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give! Many cookies will be given as reward. (sorry for the long post )
Not sure but I had a fairly similar problem which i barely got out of, hope it helps,
I was restarting my phone for some reason(while battery was low) and when it was turning back on, the screen was black at the time, i connected the usb cable for power and the phone never started. it stayed at the black screen, but in complete darkness you could tell the display was on, but in normal it would seem the phone is not even turing on.
I thought i bricked it for some reason, but what i did was charge up the phone a bit, combination of connecting to the computer and ac wall charger. The phone only restarted when connected to the wall charger so then in order to get into bootloader, i held the volume down and power, and plug the charger at the same time and after multiple attempts it finally managed to get into restart into the bootloader, than you just reboot into recovery and you should know the rest, factory reset or flash a clean new rom.

What happened to me is that I forgot to put my one x on charge overnight and when I woke up in the morning it wouldn't turn on and it "wouldn't charge". What had actually happened here is that I fell victim to the charging issue as many will. But I shall cut to the chase, how to fix the problem. This seems to happen with a lot of android phones, but more so, a lot of HTC phones. The phone seems to charge excruciatingly slow until you actually get the phone on, so first things first, lets turn the phone on.
1. Plug you HTC status into your PC/Laptop via the USB charging cable that is turned on and leave the phone there until you see the orange blinking light.
2. Find you wall charger and QUICKLY unplug the USB cable from the PC/Laptop and plug it into your status. (the reason for the quickly is because the phone won't charge through the wall charger unless you get that orange light blinking) I made you change to the wall charger as it charges quicker.
3.Wait until the orange light stops flashing (or maybe it wont so wait about 15 mins) then hold the power button until the phone turns on. If it doesn't turn on after 15 mins continue to let it charge (one person had to leave it charge for an hour)
4. You're done! your one x is saved!
OK so the reason that we let it charge for a bit is because the one x seems to have an issue getting charged every once in a while, this trick gets the one x's battery to 2% and once you've turned the phone on, it can charge completely.
I hoped this helped,
Mantenner

[Q] Black screen but charging led lights up

Hi There,
Yesterday morning I went to work with a completely charged Moto G. When I arrived at work my screen was black and had become unresponsive.
The powerbutton doesn't wake up the phone, tried several times, holding it for more than 150sec. When connected to a charger (tried multipe) the charging led lights up, not blinking.
I have read on a motorola forum that this could indicate that there's insufficient power in the battery to activate the display.
However it was completely charged.
My Moto G has an unlocked bootloader, is rooted and has a custom rom (C-Rom, [ROM][AOSP][KK][12/05] **C-RoM** -4.4.2- -v6.5)
Is there anything I can try or is my phone a brick now?
Thanx in advance
The same problem
I am having the same problem too.
My moto G drained its battery until it shut down. Then i promptly went to charge it. The screen is blank and and notification light is on.
snooze1973 did u find a solution or is it now working?
PS My Moto g bootloader unlocked, stock rom, rooted and it is on the Faux123kernel
Thanks in advance
No luck Yet
No luck yet, left it on the charger for a whole night, still just the white charging led. No response to the power button.
But I refuse to believe it is completely dead. Before I had a HTC Desire S, tried many custom roms, never bricked it.
I just can't imagine what happend the day before yesterday.
Perhaps I'll try and find a more powerfull charger.

I think I found a solution. I followed these steps
1. Charge your phone via USB cable on your computer.
2. The white notification light should come on.
3. Then, do not touch any buttons on your phone.
4 The iconic Battery Logo(white background) should appear after several minutes.
Followed these steps and my phone eventually turned on
Good luck!!
Still no luck, trying a different cable (blackberry) now.
Not working for me, still just a beautiful white led indicator.
Start to think it's probably dead. Or battery thinks it's drained somehow.
Maybe anyone else has an idea?
Ok, I opened the Moto G and disconnected the battery, reconnected it after 10 sec. still no luck
Odd thing though and not very promising is that when the battery is disconnected the charging led still lights up when charger is connected.
Could this just mean that only the battery is fully drained or that the device is messed up?
Guess I going for a new one.
See if a new battery helps
Bought a new one today, so I can try and fix the other. First I will leave it for at least 24 hours.
Perhaps I will exchange the batteries at one time to see if that helps.

Black screen but charging led lights up
I am experiencing the same issue.
I bought a dead moto g for part replacement with my current moto g. Just out of curiosity, I plugged in the charger to the newly arrived moto g and observed the similar behavior.
To go further, I swapped the battery and tried to turn it on, and voila, it boots!! It has C-ROM. But it won't charge the battery any how. Its again back to
original behavior : No Screen, No Battery Charging, Only notification LED glows. I kept it on charger for whole night, but no luck.
The notification LED turns on even if I the battery is removed and charger is plugged in. What does that really mean?
Is there a probability that the charging circuit is broken? or it has something to do with bootloader, C-ROM and custom kernel? Does any one thinks reverting back to Stock ROM will help out in any way?
Same here...
Exactly the same with my little brother his Moto G 4G (1st gen) (stock rom, BL unlocked & rooted).
Solid white LED when plugged in, no other response.
The most advertised trick does not work (step 6: flashboot screen doesn't show up)
Q28: Moto G will not power up (addition to Q16 and Q25)
Plug it into the charger
Hold the VOL DOWN key
While still holding the VOL DOWN key, press and hold the POWER key
Hold both keys down for over 120 seconds. This is more than two minutes and will seem like a long time. You might want to time yourself to make sure you hold it longer than two minutes.
After holding the keys down for more than two minutes, release them.
The Flash Boot screen will display, and the Normal Reboot option will be highlighted
Press the VOL UP key and the device will start a normal reboot.
If you have tried the above and it didn't work, try this:
Plug in the phone for 15 minutes.
Proceed to Step 2 above.

It has been an hour on the charger of my Asus T100 Tablet (5V, 2A). Still no luck...
Due to the lack of other solutions, I guess all our phones are ready for RMA...
Update: an overnight charge on a 5V 1A charger did the trick. White led was gone this morning, booted normally.

I don't know why a USB charger and a PC connection should make any difference when the phone is not booted up.
I had the same problem. I solved it by removing the battery by opening the phone (mine was out of warranty) and taking it to repair shop where they charged the battery for an hour. Then when I put it back in, the phone rebooted normally with 10% charge.
But ever since, my battery life has deteriorated. Doesn't even last one full day. And I have had the same issue twice. I think I need a new battery.

I have a simple solution for that I have faced this issue long time ago and now I know a permanent solution. You all have usb cables in your house...just took a old one and cut it from the mini usb side..there are 4 wires...you have to care about red and black..open your moto g battery and took it off from the phone now connect the usb cable to your pc and touch the red wire to the positive and black to the negative ...just do this for 45 seconds and immediately connect the battery to the phone and connect the charger...phone will starts charging from 0 % pls do not wait to connect the switch and back cover just charge it upto 20 % the cover it up.....DO NOT LET YOUR BATTERY DRAIN MORE THAN 30% AS THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN LI ION BATTERIES...

Interesting, but how did you determine the negative and positive terminals on the battery flex? Can you, please, mark the attached photo of the battery of moto g to help the community?
Also, as a side note I think I discovered a solution - I connected the phone to my PC's usb 2.0 port and held the power button for 2 minutes - at which the LED blinked momentarily and then continues to shine. I left the phone connected and continued to browse for solutions to this battery charging dilemma - then about 5 minutes the LED stopped shining (and I breathed a sigh :silly: !!! becaue this is the sign of battery being charged!) and after about 30 minutes of charging I turned the phone on and it was 16% charged. Well I haven't been able to reproduce this solution (since, I have been extra cautious with the battery now!) but I would surely like to know if anyone can reproduce this solution:
1. Plug in your phone to USB 2.0 or 3.0 port with original moto g cable and confirm that the LED shines continuously.
2. Hold the power button for 2 minutes (which I discovered to be a long time if you just continuously stare at the phone!) after which you will notice that the led with blink momentarily before continuing to shine continuously. (I suggest you continue holding it for another 2 minutes after which the led will blink again momentarily)
3. Leave the power button and leave the phone attached to the port for at least 30 mins before attempting to power on.

Phone crashed and won't turn back on

I have a stock phone HTC One (M8) that has never been rooted. Today I pulled my phone out of my pocket and it wouldn't turn on. I've tried:
pressing the power button along with the volume up
Pressing power and volume down
Pressing power and volume up and down
I took it to the Verizon store and they said they would have to ship a refurb out to me. I wanted to check this forum to see if anyone has ideas before I get a refurb.
Thanks in advance!
Simular situation - will not power up or hold charge
Im S-off and unlocked .... I downloaded the new RUU 4.4.4 and everything was fine. the next day the battery drained completely and I plugged the charging cord in. I got the battery icon in the center of the screen and 0% life. The orange light is blinking, but the battery level doesn't change. I cannot get it to power up or get into the bootloader. Once I unplug the power cable the unit doesn't power on. if the keep the unit plugged In for a power source I'm still unable to boot. I'm totally out off ideas ... can I get someone to respond to help me out in this desperate time.

Can you try a different charger and cable? The blinking orange light is what they do when they are completely dead. Starts out blinking and wont go solid until enough charge is present to actually boot the phone.
I just upgraded to 4.4.4 as well maybe 3-4 days ago. I had been able to charge the phone a couple of times without issue right up until it wouldn't turn on yesterday.
I left the phone off the charger overnight and tried rebooting again this morning, and nothing.

Try this:
Battery is fully charged, but the device does not turn on
Plug device into the provided HTC wall charger that came with the device.
Press and hold the Power, Volume up and Volume down keys for 1 - 2 full minutes. The battery should re-calibrate and the device will then turn on.
or
Battery shows less than 0% charge level
Plug device into the provided HTC wall charger that came with the device.
Charge the device until the LED indicator glows solid red.
Attempt to power the device on as usual. If it will not power on, press and hold the Power and Volume up keys for 10 seconds while still on the charger.
I tried this just now, nothing.
When I hook up the charger, I don't get any lights to indicate that the phone is charging.
It's like the phone is bricked, but I haven't messed with any ROMs at all. I'm completely stock and locked.

I am unlocked but am having the same problem. I've had the phone since almost launch day and it's been fine until now.....all of a sudden it won't charge. I've tried many different cables and chargers that I know work, but nothing gives.
Were you able to figure anything out? Really don't want to have to get a refurb as I don't think I'll be able to get it rooted/unlocked anymore.
edit: After letting it "charge" for about an hour I was able to turn the phone back on. It said the battery was at 30% but was draining like 2% every 15-20 seconds. Looking at the settings it said the battery state was unkown (where it usually says not charging or charging). Something is definitely doing on here, but I have no idea what. I tried rebooting to recovery from the ROM but it just shut off. Now it's doing the same thing again (0%, won't turn on). Ugh!

oneplusone phone dead

So I had a extreme low battery alert, where it said cannot boot until more charge.
Stuck the charger in.
Battery wasnt going up.
Now it wont turn on at all with charger in or out.
So looks like either the battery is dead (non swappable) or the usb port is broke so isnt accepting charge.
Wow the phone is only 2 months old.
any ideas? or has to be returned for repair/exchange?
luckily was only using this phone for testing roms and stuff, not daily driver.

Try plugging into charge on a low power source via USB like a PC or laptop. Anything that isn't direct to a mains socket. It can help slowly replenish the battery, just leave it be for a while.
I just had a similar experience where my phone died overnight. Plugged it into my non OPO charger that I used with my older blackberries.
It wouldn't even turn on after 20 minutes of being plugged in. I decided to use a charger that outputted more energy and it immediately turned the phone on.
My advice, try using different charging sources.
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
I recently had this problem. Solved it with a simple google search which brought up O+'s own help page. Press the power button for 20 seconds 5 times in succession. This simulates a battery pull (there will be a vibration) . Now plug the phone into the original charger and leave it for a couple hours at the least.
You could also try to disconnect and connect the battery. For this you have to open the phone. Here is a little tutorial https://youtu.be/xLB4fhOyvuA
Hope this will fix the problem.
Same thing happened to my sons 1+, This is the reply form CS
Regarding your issue, please try with below steps:
1) Keep the phone for 12 hours without touching and charging...
2) Charge with official charger and usb for 6 hours(after the above mentioned steps) and then
3) Pull off the usb and put back again ... and you may get a LOW battery screen again staying for 4 / 5 mins...
4) Now don't try to boot or anything.. let it charge for 1 hour or more.
5) Now finally boot your device by pressing power button for few seconds
6) Phone should boot normally...
Trying it now
