Apps / games to show off the superior processing power? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
are there recommended games or other apps to show off the superb processing power of the 1+6?
When I google "best android games" or "best looking android games" I get games that work well on low spec phones as well...
Thank you for any suggestions

Many games do run on low spec devices, but with low graphic settings. You can try PUBG. Run it on High or HDR graphics, with ultra frame rate.

Maybe OperaOmnia? Final Fantasy 3D game with 60fps option

about oneplus6 can state only apposite.
"osmand+" app still works very slow, better than on my nexus6 but still extremely slow considering that oneplus6 has Snapdragon845 and 8gb of ram.
It would be awesome to get a feature that allows to redirect all processor power to certain apps.

Isn't that what gaming mode is for. Or is that just to stop notifications?

no visual different in gaming mode with "osmand+"
maybe in 10+ years when phones will reach laptops capabilities, maybe than "osmand+" will finally begin working as fast as google maps. Because relaying on software optimization is pointless.

Too bad! I haven't tested it.
Oh for game suggestions that can show off the device.
Life is Strange is on beta. It looks and plays really well (although currently still has controller ques from pc/console release)

Trade it in and get something the Samsung galaxy media thing.

I feel it important to point out (despite having exactly the opposite feelings myself) that quite a lot of hardware huggers and geeks have an extremely strong emotional attachment to 'Nintardo' and all its 'cute products'. The emotional attachment is often so strong that it blinds, obscures and ultimately completely overrides normal levels of good sense and intelligence.
That would be cool to have, but once icons get to the top screen it would be near impossible to move them off it since its not touch sensitive.

I don't get how zenonia 4 can be free but Zelda on 3ds is over £20.
I have Mario mushroom tattoos but haven't had a Nintendo since then n64 and gameboy advance.
Weak hardware and tired games.

Wow just looked the dsi has a 133mhz processor. It can't run any form of android. No wonder the games as so weak.

Holy **** a bunch of people bashing proper console games while promoting rubbish mobile games?
Alrighty my impression of you guys have degraded. Seriously.
Why does zenonia 4 cost nothing while Zelda cost money? Quality of the game, of course. Zenonia is so horrible only anyone who have no taste in games would find it attractive, as with most casual mobile phone gamers because they simply haven't touched anything that's of good enough quality to set a decent benchmark of what's good and what's crap.
Processors does not determine the quality of the game and there's no denying it, DS and 3ds probably can't get android running but the games made for those consoles are far more entertaining then mobile games. I have no idea how Zelda is a "tired game" while zenonia is not.

Super bump I'm probably gonna get suspended or warned or something...
But I wanted to let you all know...
CyanogenMod 7 idled using 63mb of ram on my Samsung Galaxy Exhibit...
The 3DS has 128mb...
It also has a dual core and a pretty beefy GPU... So?
Maybe some SDCard ram? Can that be done on Android? 128mb of SD card ram... That's all we need...
Now let's say this could be run with the help of a flashcart...
Like the http://eng.supercard.sc/manual/dstwo/
Supercard DSTwo... It has I think.. 64mb of ram?It also has an integrated CPU.
Wouldn't that make the 3DS a tripple core of some sort? Wouldn't that help?
I think so.
The 3DS could probably run Android in the future.. I don't see it so farfetched.

its almost possible, everything on the 3ds has been dumped except for the bootrom. if the bootrom is dumped, we can put everything we want on a 3ds and it will run fine! (if the cpu, ram and other stuff like that are good enough)

I'm just now reading over this forum you seem to be the closest one to actually work with on the 3DS. I have my bootrom dumped with boot9strap installed. I'm down with making a cfw that's equivelent to 3DS software and also has android apis or programming. It will be a challenge however considering the fact that you have minimal ram to work with and very low processing speed.
The 3DS sfw is very light but if you were to making it lighter and add a couple of software enhancements to it (Make it your own) you could potentially lessen the amount of ram the home screen takes up. The 3DS sfw makes it so the the home screen is always active in the backgroud, if I could cut that bit of ram free then the potential for running newer software would be greater. Also in a cfw there the potential that you can partition a proportionally larger SD card with virtual ram and speed up the processing a little more.
If you have anything that can help please reply to my post so I can remember this forum for the future. Hope my post helped:laugh:.

How do I make GTA3 run smooth?

I am on stock 2.3.6. I installed 1.2 apk and it really lags alot.
Xperia play unrooted and stock seems to play it quite smoothly, nexus S is more powerful so surely it should run smooth??
I have the same problem and I also like to know how to fix it.. The game runs reaply badly for my usual gaming habits. I use Matrix kernel @ 1.46GHz and the latest CM9 nightly. I get really high bench scores for 4.0.3 and overall performance kicks the ass of my friends' stock Galaxy SII I-9100.

I have generally found the general section to be most responsive. That method you are saying is via root and I am not rooted.
I always played it on mute anyway, and after deleting the audio files i got a massive jump in performance (audio was being processed even with volume at 0). Personal preference, but a noticeable fps jump.
So I guess the game isnt optimized for powerVR?? It seems to run fine on adreno 205, this is disappointing.
I mainly want to play it for the nostalgic bit and the audio is really important part of it.
The nostalgia value of my GTA3 experience was with a sound bug that forced the rain to play constantly. Not really the highlight of the game for me
The sound on the Nexus S seems kind of delayed and i've noticed many games that slow down a little as sounds are meant to kick in. I don't know exactly why, maybe mediaserver isn't given good enough priority. This seems to be the same issue that plagued my GTA3 adventures though.

perhaps being rooted is the reason I have yet to experience the problems you describe. I play gta and games which are more graphic intensive than gta with np.
I don't think the processor is to blame for your inability to play the game. The ns processors have proven to be more than capable of handling most processes. Rather, the stock software does not allow the hardware to reach its full potential. In other words, the nexus s is a peacock you; you've got to let it fly.

I havent experienced lag in any other game and I have played a few. Asphalt 6 runs smooth as well.
And btw my audio runs perfect and never stutters.
I saw youtube video of overclocked nexus S running GTA3 and even that had performance issues.
just install 1.3, i used to have major lag on 1.2 on my nexus s but on 1.3 i have no lag. Huge improvement!

Peacocks don't fly
renaming the "audio" folder into "audio1" made the game much much smoother. i don't mind the missing sound. But isn't there a way to make it run even better? i still experience some massive lag problems...
Huge gain in performance by deleting the Audio folder. Thanks for the tip, now I can enjoy this game.
Controls take some getting to.

If you honestly think that your quadrant score makes your phone with a single A8 cortex core faster than two A9 cores there is something seriously wrong with you. Software tweaks can make up to 1% difference in actual performance.

Just did that and you got me excited as there was no lag in the opening cutscene. But it was back as soon as I started driving.
The sad part is I thought I wouldnt care about the game as the controls would be really bad but they arent that bad, it's very much playable but the performance is the issue.

Will it overheat?

Hey friends, I'm thinking of buying this for at&t networks and temperature is my only concern. I'm sure the device is fine for long periods of intense gaming (I'm thinking PSP emulation. I play monster hunter for hours at a time on my s5) and I just need to know; is the mate 7 going to get uncomfortably hot with 2-4 hour sessions of intense 3d gaming? Can this kirin soc even handle it?

I've had my mate for close to a week now, and have been playing COC on it and doing some other stuff. So far so good haven't observed the phone go up to more than 42-45 Celsius. It hasn't been uncomfortably hot using it for long periods. I's impressive for a metal phone. I use Smart Power saving mode though so the clocks are held down a bit. I've also rooted the phone and had Fauxclock installed on it and it does have Thermal throttling options available so it could throttle down when reaching high temperatures.
Intense heating usually occurs when the cores are operating at max/high frequencies for long periods. But unless your game is really that demanding cpu/gpu wise, you won't really feel much heat shooting up on mate 7
That puts me at ease, thank you. I play the ps3 port of monster hunter 3 ported back to PSP but with HD lol

Vulkan API?

So yeah Samsung said that it's integrated in the S7 and S7 edge, but what does that mean right NOW? I still haven't noticed any improvements in gaming performance, and games still drain the same amount of battery (as they say it improves performance in gaming and battery life, also it's said that the new TouchWiz uses or will use the Vulkan API, is it already being used or what?). What exactly should we expect and when?
My questions might not be well asked, but you get what I want to know

This post explains it pretty well, basically it's a new way to boost graphics performance and harness the full power of the CPU. It translates into more responsive game play, more fluid animations and a slicker/snappier touchwiz.

It will depend on devs implementing it when building their games, I'm not sure which ones/if any use it at the moment.
I think it's helped a lot with the optimisation of touchwiz which is noticeably improved although this could also be due to the 4GB ram and newer CPU in the S7.
I believe android N is supposed to add native support for the vulkan api so perhaps it will be more apparent when it comes.

I'm actually trying now to play Vainglory which is supposedly using Vulkan API, and I can't deny it, it runs smoother than a lot of games I have including clash royale, hearthstone and subway surfers.. even though it looks demanding.. Also the phone isn't overheating much like it does on clash royale and battery drain is normal.. I don't know if it's actually thanks to Vulkan or if the game runs like this on other phones as well.

Nice one, it certainly sounds like its running well although hard to confirm its purely down to Vulkan, without being able to enable and disable it on the handset itself. I suppose the way to test would be to run it on an S6 or an HTC 10 for comparison.

According to AnandTech's review this phone is a monster in GPU benchmarks. Should not have any issues. (Can't post link though as I'm a new user, but Google it)
Games work fine except for Dream league soccer 2016. On firmware version 126 it was obvious that something is wrong with graphics, but it was playable. After upgrading firmware to 138 game keeps crashing after max. 5mins of playtime.

Hardware is not a problem, nor heat is, but you have to take in mind that many games developers don't support Kirin processors and when they detect a Kirin processor, they just display ugly graphics.
I have tried many games with Mate 9, and all those with Vulkan run flawless, but if you try some other games, for example, CSR2, you will see the difference against a Qualcomm device. Is matter of time until the developers start giving support to Kirin processors and/or enable high quality graphics for them.
