[petition] 24bit/192khz Hi-Res Audio not supported on Mi A1: petition on xiaomi forum - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

did you know that the Xiaomi MI A1 has no Hi-Res Audio compatibility?
as seen on this thread on the official poweramp forum seems to be that Xiaomi did not add the latest qualcomm patch that makes possible to use Poweramp V3 with 24bit/192khz audio quality.
actually there is a petition thread on the official Xiaomi forum but we lack of votes to make developers know this issue.
note: maybe this is due to qualcomm royalties or patents like with QuickCharge but in this case the hardware is totally aviable to this function even more some custom roms have the patch included
i hope that with this post more people vote for this petition so this way users with stock rom can have a better audio experience on this device

which version of poweramp v3 are you using? 709 or 790?

Hi-res audio makes absolutely no difference to how music sounds, it's pure snake oil. Don't waste your time on this.
Don't be taken in by marketing gimmicks about higher resolution: it means nothing. Instead, watch the full pair of Monty explanations of the technical details of when bits and frequencies matter and when they don't.

Certainly not everyone notice the difference but some people myself included can hear the quality diferences, also even if its not a necessary feature this may be usefull for custom roms that want to have a focus on audio quality, also when using the "fake" hd mode on poweramp the sound goes worse and certainly everybody can notice that.

What headphones do you use with this phone that you are able to spot the difference between 16b/48kHz and 24b/192kHz?

You can you USB Audio Player Pro on custom rom like GZOSP or LineageOS 15.1 to get 192kHz/24bit direct to headphone.

Don't believe in usb audio player pro info. You should launch Terminal application, use "dumpsys media.audio_flinger" ater "su" to check the output like my attachment when it's playing.

the idea it's to have the feature on stock android, custom roms are great on fixing manufacturer software errors/mistakes, but not everyone want to loose warranty/screw their phones.

I'll try to gather more votes for this. But to be real, developers are too lazy to fix and add features since this is like an illegitimate child of Xiaomi and Google and they are more focused with MIUI phones.
Kindly also link in OP the link for discussion in Mi A1 subforum so someone can ressurect that thread.

You got right ! Lol 48 in output.
Due to the very powerful amp the a1 has i dont notice any "serious" difference comparing it with my mx4pro with fiio a5 amp that supports 24/192 (tested with the command you told me). Using sennheiser hd600.

i need to buy the best audio quality android phone

Searching for best audio quality android phone of all new phones that released lately cuz i am gonna sell my s2 and i dont care about price and please dont post that all phones are same all u need is eq an just good headphone. Yea i have good solo bose headphones but i am 100% sure quality of circuts and other chips jacks and speaker placement and quality affect sound alot too and by asking for sound quality i mean loud speakers of phone too. Also i need it to be one of new android phones in market with good specs, features n quality but mainly focus on sound (not just the bass boost but clarity n sharpness of all sound too). Please if u are not sure of the device u gona suggest better dont post cuz i need the best, really the best. also got 2 questions
1. Htc onex+ the beats is really just an eq adjustment software or they have any hardware that added related to beats or even speakers and chips and with audio engineering point of view cuz that what beats.com says
2. S3 with voodoo enhance loud speakers too or just headphones? does galaxy note 2 have wolfson or work with voodoo? If not what is note 2 chip brand tho and what i can use that can be as good as s3 with voodoo exactly and have same options of voodoo?
Thanks in advance,
Maxwel1
OPPO Find 5?
How about the OPPO Find 5? It uses a Dirac HD sound processing chip, making Oppo the first mobile phone brand to do so. However I have no personal experience with it, but I just figured it fit your discription. I too am looking for a phone with good audio HARDWARE, and this is on the top of my list, especially due to their good reputation with A/V equipment in general! Just need to get my hands (and ears) on it first. Good luck!
Looks like its really good one for sound quality but it lack much of specifications compared to the new phones released lately like s3 and one x+. Also i would love to include that need company that can update android regularly i know there will be non so fast especially than nexus phones but i mean that company dont ignore old phones cuz samsung did that with s2 users and heard htc do same but if both do i need recommandation of best of them in that point.
but still periority goes to best sound quality hardware..
and please someone answer my previous 2 questions too
Thanks in advance
Maxwel1
This might sound stupid but couldn't you just take your headphones and some music down to a store and simply try out each phone then just pick whichever one sounds the best to you...
Samsung Galaxy S3 is a superb audio quality android phone. It comes with latest features it has 4.8 inch Superb Super AMOLED display with saturated colors and high contrast with 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash and HD video recording, 4.0 android operating system, Quad-core 1.4 GHz Processor and 2050 mAh battery capacity. You can read all details here:

Thanks guys for trying to help but
1- no there is no store here let me try phones
2- i know s3 specifications and thats not my point. My point is need best android phone with best audio hardware and its audio was made with sound experts.
Anything as good as s3 or better in audio? What about note 2 audio?
Please answer my previous 2 questions in first post, guys

Check out HTC One S, it has Beats Audio integration and comes with 8MP camera and a very sleek body. This is one phone to look out for. Do check.
I guess one x plus is better but ppl say beats just an equalizer and not hardware is that true or not? << so important question (beats says on their website they
do add great quality hardware and placement them in right places for clarity and great sound as heard by artists in thier studio)
does beats audio on htc one x plus better than voodoo with s3 ??
Still waiting more suggestion of devices of best audio quality hardware
Please please please people reply my first 2 questions in my first post in this thread
Thanks alot,
Maxwel1
The Galaxy S3 (i9300 and i9305, NOT the US models) has the Wolfson DAC that the original Galaxy S/Nexus S (remember the Voodoo audio mod?). Also applies to the Note 2. If you want to use this device as a secondary device, you can just get a Galaxy S or Nexus S, but as a daily phone if you need something powerful, get the S3.
As for the One X, the Tegra 3 was rated as having the worst and nosiest DAC. Beats Audio is a gimmick and is just a software audio equalizer preset.

Yes, but you need to be running Siyah kernel (which I'm assuming exists for the Note 2 since Play Store reviews for the app say people are using it): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gokhanmoral.stweaks.app&hl=en
The kernel includes the app when you flash it but in case it doesn't, link above.

Does stweak/voodoo work for speaker too or just headphone ?
Does stweaks/voodoo work with all apps?

STweaks applies audio tweaks system-wide, at the kernel level. I don't believe there's an official Voodoo mod for the S3 or Note 2 yet, however the mods in STweak use code from the official Voodoo mod (it's just as good). Both the Note 2 and S3 i9300/i9305 (again, not the US S3, BUT you can use any Note 2. It's part of the Exynos chipset) have the same chipset, but the Note 2 is a little faster and has 2GB of RAM. It's up to you really. I like the size of the S3 compared to the Note 2. But the Note 2 is slightly more powerful and has the S-Pen among other things.
Aah right ok. Ive just been researching a little. No actual voodoo sound for the note 2 just yet, and the neak kernel has options for sounds etc, and neak and siyah are both compatible with samsung based roms?
Im thinking of rooting and installing the android revolution hd rom, which has the option to install the perseus kernel, and im sure I read something an hour ago about something to do with voodoo sound and perseus?...so would there be a control app with that too?
I also hate to ask but not necessarily which is the best, do you know which has the most features etc
Ive had the note 2 3 weeks maybe and im a music nut. Still unrooted with the stock rom. Also had this noozoxiode app installed and its great and very impressive, just when I have the headphones in its too quiet, even with the volume on max.

Siyah kernel supports both Samsung and AOSP based ROMs in one (with tweaks and everything) and even supports dual-booting as long as one ROM is AOSP and one is Samsung-based. I recommend Omega ROM because it has a ton of features. It uses AROMA installer so you can choose what you want to include or not when flashing the ROM, and it has tons of mods (comes with an app that showcases a few of them). It's for the S3 i9300 and Note 2.
My personal experience, no android hardware is good for quality audio, used almost all trendy phones from HTC,moto,Samsung ,Sony. Well Sony had the best audio phones b4, but Sony seems to take no care for audio hardware( yes I mean hardware itself and not software /os ) now a days. I can strongly say it becoz I am a fan of Sony Ericsson phones ( those old cyber shots and walkmans) and besides the fact that 95 % of those phones were java phones, they really had a good cam, and good sound hardware. My personal interests were k800,w880,c905 and w995. If u can mod/patch and change drivers of those phones, I bet u will throw out ur iPods. Even now I have c905, with changed cam/display/ sound drivers and I barely use my hd2 for photos or songs. Go find one of them, then go to se-nse forum, be the guru to ur phone. 1Ce u behold a moded phone, u never get back to android for audio.Sony had phones with Smaster digital amp with about 2v o/p . It will bleed ur ears if u remove the sound restrictions Sony inserted in its drivers. And mods are intented to remove restrictions.
Nb. Lol android is not an os for entertainment unlike iOS, but it is more close to productivity. So expect less multimedia.and if u want an android multimedia device go for Sony's android walkman. But never ever buy Sony phones for this purpose.

Thanks for the tip, just been scrolling through the omega 9.1 thread... omg! And a kitchen app! So in a nutshell I fully charge, root with method 2 so I get cwm to flash the rom with, backup stuff and flash omega then wipe everything at the start of the aroma. Then download the kitchen app and install the perseus kernel so I get stweaks which is the closest thing to voodoo?

What I know so far, and ive only been looking into this stuff tonight. It seems stweaks is the option to go with as its the closest to the voodoo sound mod, and yes it sorts out both headphone and speaker etc. Also I think stweaks is kernel specific to perseus. So you would need to root and install a rom that supports the perseus kernel. Apparently the omega rom is one of the top Samsung based ones and you can flash the perseus kernel with the omega rom kitchen app from the play store. Search for omega files. This seems the best way to go at the minute.

I am not that good to be my phone guru plus i asked for best from nowadays new phones cuz i need phone that can suit my tasks as my previous ones could not java one and honestly i got ipod touch 4g and had iphone 3g and now got s2 which will sell but i really bored with ios and need to change ik s2 is android but i had it for like 4-5 monthes unlimke ios so i was searching best of android audio hardware although i agree that android not good with audio that much anymore and ios more better at that point as far as i know about iphones/ipod and s2 but still after best of them although i see at productivity iphone more better too atleast look at thier apps and play apps... I like android os flexibility and easy and much customizable than ios but not agreeing about productivity due to less app devs for play.
till now i guess a note 2 with stweaks is answer so far. Why not s3? Cuz personally i hate to carry phone with 50% of people around the world. I love to carry something not out there much and special with good features especially audio
Thanks in advance,

[SOLVED] aptX support for the Note 3 (US/European/Korean version confirmed)

UPDATE January 7th: Posted the log which confirms the presence of aptX
UPDATE October 16th: AptX confirmed. I tried it with my bluetooth headphones (Harman Kardon BT). It connects via aptX(LED flashing four times)
UPDATE October 5th: According to a recent live chat, the US and European version do support aptX. The Korean version has it printed on the back of the box.
I just had a customer chat with Samsung US. Here's the transcript.

Samsung: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: Hi, I'm currently using the Samsung Galaxy S 4 and I would like to preorder the new Galaxy Note 3 but I need the bluetooth protocol aptX that the Galaxy S4 supports. Do you know if the Note 3 also supports aptX?
Samsung: I understand your concern.
Samsung: I'll be glad to assist you.
Samsung: May I place you on hold for 3 minutes, while I gather the information on your request?
Visitor: Sure. Thank you very much.
Samsung: Thank you.
Samsung: Thank you for being on hold.
Samsung: I have checked with the information and I would like to inform you that (aptX) bluetooth profile is not supported by Note3 device.
Visitor: Ok. Thank you very much for helping me out.
Wonder who had the great idea to remove aptX... .

The unboxing videos show that apt-X is specifically mentioned on the back of the Note 3 box, so I suspect the Samsung rep is incorrect.

If this is correct I will pull my thread immediately.
But I could not see any aptX on the back of the box in this unboxing video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxf3btdm0C4 After 11 seconds he shows the back.
I'm sure I've seen a video with the apt-X logo on the back, will try to find it again.
Ask Supercurio he might know the answer...
What's the use of this "aptX" ? I never heard about it ! ^^

AptX is a bluetooth protocol. It's an audio codec. . Standard aptX goes up to a bitrate of 352kbps. Best mp3's only have a bitrate of up to 320 kbps, so the remaining 32 kbps don't really matter.
There are some other versions of aptX such as aptX lossless with the capability of much higher data rates.
The advantage of aptX is its convenience. Adapter attached to the sound system, switch bluetooth on on your aptX device and connect it. Done. Now you can listen to your mp3 collection without any further losses in quality.
For guys who like to listen to lossless music it's not the right choice of course.
But you cannot hear the difference between a 320kbps mp3 and a let's say 800 or 1000 kbps flac anyways. If you don't believe me do a blind test with foobar and if you are one of the fortunate few, who actually are able to hear the difference, well congrats.
If the recording is exceptional I can take that challenge.

Ok, if you have a great recording maybe you can hear the difference when you really focus on the recording. But where's the joy in that?
Well, try it yourself. Get a QUALITY 96/24 or 192/24 or heck even a quality 48/16 file and encode it to FLAC or mp3 on your own. I have a bunch of classical, flaming lips, Gabriel, king crimson etc recordings and the difference is night and day on a capable system or with some good cans. Not everyone can appreciate and many more will care less because they've never heard the difference. You'd be amazed at differences that can be heard playing a movie at reference level and what ever is considered loud in your household. I myself rarely get to enjoy movies at that level. Mp3 and aac needs to die already. Recording artists are partly to blame for this.

Maybe they are able to develop a codec in a few years, that has the size of a mp3 but is lossless. But back to topic.
I hate it when they announce a new product like the Note 3 with all the features and stuff and the customer support doesn't know **** about their own products. Some say yes, some say no. Some say they don't have the info. Who else has the info if not the manufacturer? Ridiculous.
apt-x as far as I knew is included with the Note 3.
I need this confirmed. No speculation.

It has it :

Considering Samsung purchased CSR who OWN Apt-X it seems unlikely in the extreme that they would go backwards and not support this since it has been on all their high-end stuff since the S3 (and lots of their less high-end stuff also). Add to this that they make a number of Apt-X capable accessories and it seems even less likely.
EDIT: ...and yes, it is very obviously on the box in that unboxing video.

It seems there are different versions.
@WILD9: Thanks for the video. As the guy mentions in his video it's the Korean version. On the video I posted on the first page, he shows the back at about 11 seconds. There's no aptX mentioned on the back. I don't get it why they release different versions without aptX... .
Here's the link of the video I posted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxf3btdm0C4
EDIT: After watching your unboxing video, it's pretty ****ed up to see what kind of accessories they all have included.
Possibly something to do with Exynos? Does he mention which processor it has, I have no sound here.

In the description it says 2.3 Ghz Quad Core. I'll ask which one it is.
Is there a way to edit the thread name? I would like to mention that the Korean version supports it whereas the European and US versions do not. Or at least it seems they don't.

First update from Vivo

Hello Nex-Fans,
Vivo has announced the first OS update for our device which improves the overall, the game, camera and fingerprintscanner performance.
Source:
Gizchina
Thanks! I suppose we will get that automatically (when checked in update settings), but thanks anyway for notifying it here.
Despiter updates(there's even newer update than those at first page) the underscreen display scanner remain problematic according to fresh reviews from android authority.
https://www.androidauthority.com/vivo-nex-review-875140/
Hopping retail unit perfom better.
Saw many reviews and tests on YouTube and nobody has mentioned such problems with the Fingerprintscanner. I think this will be a "Pre-Release-Device" problem.

Damn that's a really scathing review especially re. the software and OS. Makes me kind of disinterested tbh, because the UX sounds like a ****ing hassle
I'm not so negative ... In my opinion it's a very early stage of the device and i think some points are related to the Pre-Release-Device he has. On the software side i think it's only a question of time until there are some other options.
I have a Zuk Z2 Pro and know what i'm talking about. The ZUI interface was only crap but now it's running AOSP Android 8.1 and i'm really really happy with the device. It's better then my S8 was.
Yes but the kicker is as always, does the bootloader get unlocked... I don't know about Vivo and their practices on this.
I actually received my second update on my Nex already... and while the fingerprint reader can be finicky it has worked well (one thing that helped was adding both thumbs 2times)

I got the update a day or two ago as well.....
Any idea (translation) of what it actually encompassed?
only thing i have noticed a improvement on is the Fingerprint reader(seems much more consistent) , the camera seems to focus better and give slightly better results. Also the three bars at the bottom of the home screen are at the absolute bottom now and much wider.

After you posted this,I decided to take a look in the Settings > System Update & found the update notes in English (probably translated to whatever default language you choose) & pretty much line-up with your observations/usage:
The notes may have been available in the previous updates, but,I didn't notice the little arrow to click on to read the notes (probably there all along)......

FunTouch OS is the only thing that's keeping me from buying this phone... Any thoughts on the overall phone functionality from people that have it? I currently own a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and love it except for the selfie camera being on the bottom of my screen. My main thing would be to be able to get the Play Store and use Bluetooth with my car audio system... Any thoughts appreciated ?

I might be having one serious BLONDE MOMENT  ,but,I can't seem to find how to make the YouTube app play by default, from links in email/texts/etc.....
Again,it could just be me,the settings on this phone are convoluted, makes Huawei & Xiaomi look clean & simple by comparison.......
So,in the meantime,I'm using this default picker app to help out:

I go back and forth seemingly daily. I lust for the hardware, it is to me the next step on the path to OLED in-display cameras, but that bizarre Android iOS clone nonsense they have going on is pushing me away. Funtouch sounds like a waking nightmare.
I currently have a Mi Mix 2, and already the rumor mill is in full swing re. the Mix 3. Google Mi Mix 3 and check out some early leaks, they are rumored to follow the Nex style. Admitted MIUI is not all that great either, but at least Xiaomi is a bit more dev friendly on releasing the kernels etc. And sorry for the hijack

Question Possible similar device to Neo 3T (rmx3371) ?

Hi,
My colleague want to buy the neo 3T and interested to try installing custom rom. I don't see the Neo 3T section in XDA and I find Neo 2 and Neo 3T are shared similar specs with very minor differences in camera sensor and charging speed.
I'm wondering if all unlock process downright to custom kernel and roms are compatible to each other, does anyone can shed some lights?
i have same question
+1 attention
I have Neo 3T and looking for answer too ;-)
but you will never get an answer because there is no one here...
Some devs post their roms but never answer questions...
Although they are almost identical in terms of spec, the kernel/IO driver that runs from respective motherboard might be different. Let's say in terms of the battery charging control for both. The kernel will control this component and it is the way it differentiates both models. Even if you succeed on flashing the rom, some component on the software or hardware might crash and cannot work properly.

Question POCO X5 5G

Maybe i should
I want one too, just seems like no one has been interested in developing after the Poco x3 pro was dropped, being to do with the SoCs being used or something. I don't want to be forced to use garbage miui :'( or whatever the Poco reskin is called.

so there will be no custom roms for x5?
Would help if Xda opened a sub forum for the non pro model.
Yeah. I know this device just launched 5 weeks ago, but if I'd suspected the X5 5G would get so little love here at XDA, I might've gotten the X4 Pro instead...
I'm actually looking into compiling my own TWRP recovery for it, and an AOSP ROM when I've learned enough about custom ROM development.
Is there any way to request XDA consider opening a forum for a particular phone?

Well I guess you could PM one of the admins/mods, but final decision would be up to their goodwill (or lack thereof), evidently.
It would make a lot of sense to create a dedicated forum though, as the X5 is powered by the Snapdragon695 and not a 7xx series as the X5 Pro is, which *probably* means that ROMs for the latter wouldn't be flashable on the former -not without incurring risks anyway...

There's usually a firmware, boot and vendor img difference which does make it incompatible, in most cases, and would need some tweaking to make it work right. But you're welcome to give it a test run, learn from experience. There are times with OEMs are lazy and it does actually work.

even for custom ROMs? Incase the X5 does't gain popularity (which seems to be the way it's going), I was wondering if we could use custom ROMs for X4 pro in the future.

Yep. It's uncommon to be able to use a different device's ROM even when the specs are similar. Unless you're using a gsi. It takes a while before custom roms start appearing after a phones release. Debloat and use as is would be my recommendation till then, if you already bought the phone. The Pro version is also likely to be more popular, among the enthusiast community, from what I can see.
So there's likely to be some trickle down effect of roms from the Pro versions to the non-pro

Which is ironic, because the X5p does not have any kind of possibility of storage expansion by SDcard (while the vanilla X5 does provide a shared SIM/SD slot), making even the 256Gb version utterly useless for my use cases...

To be fair, it's been a while since I've seen anything that has the 7 series chipsets to have a hybrid or dedicated SD slot. Just how the market playing field is, once you enter the mid-high range. Not great for the customer but that's capitalism for ya.
The Poco X5 5G may not be as popular as the Pro, but it's actually a very smooth phone if you don't play demanding games. Just received Android 13 update last night. My biggest gripe is the MIUI, which I don't like. After installing Nova7, the user interface is a lot more familiar and better.

For daily use, it is quite smooth, the camera performance is trash though. GCam fixes most of it but the videos are still grainy. The X5 might be catching on now as it has received a big discount on an e-commerce platform recently. Nova or Lawnchair makes the experience pleasing but you miss out the gesture navigation which is a bummer.
Hello!
Is it possible to turn off the images of the camera settings in the Portrait mode of the Poco X5 5G/Poco X5 Pro 5G?
If possible, then it would be possible to shoot video in video bokeh mode.
My phone turned itself off today. Has anyone had this issue before?

Seconded !
I've used the Microsoft Launcher for a long while before I bought the X5 5G a week after its global launchdate, but in the long run on MIUI 13 it turned out to be just too goddamn much of a battery hog...
So upon reading a comment from another member here that he was very satisfied with Nova I decided to give it a try, and felt so at ease with it that barely 20mins passed before I bought the Premium version. xD
But I do sorely miss the MS launcher's leftmost pane tho (the one where you can take quick notes and display your Outlook calendar, which is what I used it most for). :/

Yup. I traced it down to a dirty fingerprint sensor : some oil or grease traces would make it wrongly detect a long press or multiple short presses and trigger a shutdown.
A good, energetic cleaning with a rubbing alcohol-imbibed tissue then a thorough drying fixed it right up!
Any new news on custom roms? I want to get the phone on sale but I dread using MIUI
