Hi all,
While looking for a rom to flash on my Idol, I found one guy comparing the Idol 3 5.5 to the Yu Yureka Plus phones.
Seems they are similar.
http://www.gsmarena.com/yu_yureka_plus-7436.php
Maybe another device to follow-up and port from?

Dear lord, they are pretty much identical! O.O
I think that we won't need to do MUCH to port ROMs from the Yureka Plus.
Hopefully one of the two devs we have will try to mix something up. xD

I dont mean to be rude, but are you OK?
Exact same CPU,same clockspeed, same amount of RAM,same camera module.
The only possible difference(software-wise) can be the partition tables.

Chipsets are the same but both front and back cameras are different, no dual band wifi, no stereo speakers, no NFC, CDMA, different LTE bands. Its a copy, not a clone.

I over-exaggerated.
I never thought they were identical, but at least in the past, same CPU,camera and RAM were things needed in order to port a rom to another device, other things would be patched up.
I think it would be much easier to try porting a rom for that device and patch some things up than making a rom out of scratch with only 3 devs working for the Idol 3.

Yes, I see what you are saying. It would be a good starting point. I think only the lens configuration is different on the rear cam.

I didn't want to be rude at all, may be the message was misleading.
When I compare identical phone, I think in terms of whether the rom of one phone can be used, after some tweaks, in another phone that you are comparing.
Otherwise, many phones share some level commonless.
Eg. Umi Emax mini and idol 3 5.5 are quite similar except screen size. Look at their rom... they are nearly identical

I know. I was being dramatic.
But it is much easier to port a rom from a device with same CPU and other parts(plus patching some things up) than making a rom out of scratch.
Has anyone started to work on ROM for this phone, looking at the spec of this phone looks promising, it has a large battery capacity which is great but look at battery test for this phone it looks like stock software is not optimized, so just wondering if the community is willing to help optimize or any advise

the review of low configuration umidigi S2 you can see on Youtube
I've got the regular S2 for a couple of weeks now. It's a good phone with some downsides. Camera is not fantastic but good enough for everyday stuff. If you want amazing photos buy a flagship. Proximity sensor doesn't turn off screen properly while in a call, maybe fixed in future version. One of the major networks in Germany does not work for mobile data in most cases (O2 and Eplus joined and the phone can't handle the "data roaming").
Tech support is non existant. They will point you to their half chinese forums with barely any members that is spammed with press releases. Posting takes dozens of "money" that you must unlock with posts. Very unprofessional but maybe expected for such a relatively small company. There are no service addresses for repairs and the accessories market for that phone is very very limited. Barely any cases or screen protectors out there. If you break anything on this phone expect to get a new one. I have not tried yet but to get replacement parts for this seems near impossible at this point.
Other than that, screen is great for the resolution. Battery life is absolutely brilliant. I can get through a full day with using <40% battery and it lasts easily 3+ days on pure standby.
Wifi has become much better I think after the last firmware update. They are updating the phone but I wonder for how long. This is not a manufacturer that can or wants to support all of it's devices like big ones do.
Materials are good, maybe a bit slippery in the hands but all microblasted aluminium phones are like that.
Screen has a <1mm bezel between the side of the phone and the display surface but I don't care about that.
Build, to me, feels very good. Fingerprint sensor works well and fast. Android is 6.0.1 but I hope they will have an update to 7 or 8 at some point.
I don't care about benchmarks so I can't talk about that, my apps work well. Video streaming is fluid. No idea about 3D gaming I don't use my phone for that.
For that price it's a great phone imho.
Have just pre-ordered this device. Will wait to see what comes, hopefully able to unlock the bootloader and remove any bloatware that comes pre-installed.
It exist a custom rom for s2? I'd like
It has poor camera, other things are very good
What kind of custom could fix in it? Paranoid android?

Apparently it's possible to install TWRP on this Umidigi S2 :
https://www.getdroidtips.com/root-twrp-umidigi-s2-s2-pro/
I don't have Umidigi S2 to test but I'm very interested by the S2 Pro.
Perhaps it is possible to install Lenovo SNAPit Camera in order to improve the photos by flashing it with TWRP ? :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-lenovo-snapit-camera-redmi-note-4-t3608065
Does it support volt in india (to call using jio)

This post was a cut and paste from another phone.
Now the link for the custom recovery is available. I will probably give it a try just to be able to root the phone.
As of today, there is no available custom ROM available for the umidigi s2, although you can find posts on how to revert back to the stock ROM. Those posts are also just cut and pasted from other phones sharing the same cpu

I just tried that and while the recovery installs my phone wouldn't boot afterwards. Maybe because I have the main partition encrypted but maybe for another reason.
Also for me the screen was flipped 180 degrees probably due to a backwards display in this phone.

Still early days I wouldn't personally try it but I'm sure in time this phone will get Dev support , I had some feed back from umi on there FB page regarding update to 7/8 they said there waiting on MediaTek's to release source or sdk as this P20 chip was built around Android 6 at the time and the P25 around 7 that's why pro ships with 7 that's what they said , also mentioned an update coming with a week but more likely bug patch still on Jan 2017 security , not the best look on a 2017 phone 2015 os

Hi
Please check and correct me If I am wrong. According to UMI claimed that the first batch of S2 v1 come with non up gradable processor and hence, you can only maintain at Marshmallow version ie. Android 6 while S2 v2 (so called 2nd batch) can be upgraded to Android 7 (no idea to Android 8???). So guys, please check directly with UMI on this issue. I am thinking of getting the S2 Pro but would like UMI to confirm whether same issue with S2 v1 ???? Cheer s -

Below is the info extracted from Umidigi Forum lately .......
"Quote" They said the first batch of S2 will keep on Android 6 (there will be some updates, but nothing of update to Android 7). So the second batch of S2 and the S2 Pro will come with UMI OS Android 7. Anybody received handset with android 7.0 what date are the V2 or is that just referring to the Pro , mine is due 23/11 ordered 16/11 wondered if it will be V2 model with 7.0. Seems odd 2017 handset shipping with 2015 software .... Phone i received week ago got Android 6 so its V1. That will not work on the first v1 of Umidigi S2 sadly. It's made for MT6757D (S2 v2).
How ever there are phones out there already with MT6757 (Not MT6757D) will be on Android 7.0. "Unquote"
Hope this clear some of your thoughts. Thank you.

S2 version 1 coming with Android 6 and can't be updated to higher android version.
S2 version 2 will be coming with Umidigi OS based on Android 7. Further updates are not confirmed.
S2 pro is coming with Umidigi OS based on Android 7. Further updates are not confirmed.

Hello! I have been using A2 Lite for about six months now. I liked Mi phones. But I think A2 Lite is not up to mark as per the price charged. Especially, Android One experience. It lacks lots of features as compared to other MI phones in this range running on MIUI.
What are your thoughts on this?

That's the point of this phone. Stock android with no features. That's why you do your research before buying something. You could've bought Redmi 6 Pro which is basically the same device with MIUI rom.

Redmi 5A and Note 4, both have Dt2w, and they both run MIUI.
I bought this phone specifically because it didn't have MIUI on it.
Stock Android, unlockable bootloader. It's the first phone I've had that gets security updates too.
I've had it for a few months now and I still love it.
MIUI suck, give so many features that u might never use.
Those features consume CPU and battery, while stock Android has lesser feature but any feature you want you can just get them from PlayStore.
My last Xiaomi phone (Mi 4i), became super laggy until cannot unlock the screen.
Turn out it was MIUI fault because it became normal again after I flashed it with custom ROM.
From my point of view it's the perfect Android terminal.
I only miss one feature from MIUI : Scheduled turn on and off :crying:

Try flight mode, almost zero consumption. -+1%/night
This phone absolutely lives up to its price point of the $159 I purchased two of them at. Great screen, great battery life, decent processor that can handle mostly everything except high end gaming, metal body, 2 of 3 American LTE bands for T-Mobile, FM radio, IR blaster, security updates monthly with Android One. MIUI is a dumpster fire and if you wanted MIUI you should've bought a Redmi.
It's a great phone.
I'm still wondering why so many people who prefer MIUI over stock android bought the A2 Lite instead of the Redmi 6 Pro which is even cheaper. Personally, I wouldn't even touch a MIUI phone with a pair of pliers.

I am one of the users who has the problem of slow wifi in 2.4ghz when the bt or gps is active. The problem arises from the month of December following the update to android P. From December to today Xiaomi has not produced any patch to solve this serious problem. For me this is a serious bug and leads me to say that it was not a good buy.

I flashed a custom rom on mine and have no such problem, actually no complains about the device. It's just hardware, with a proper OS on it (stock is never that) it works really good.
I bought this smartphone right after it was available version 4/64. I can tell is the best smartphone i never had, The best quality/price ratio, Battery last 9 hours sot, now you can install many custom rom, gcam makes photos great.... its fast and the display is great. Yes, adding Bluejay is possible. Whether developers choose to do it is another question.
Velocity will be ready for public release soon. I'm just buttoning up a few more things.
I noticed with the phones I've own, custom ROM seem to get me frequent as the phone gets older and the stock rom releases begin to vaporize. If the phone has enuff hardware power n memory AND there's no more factory support (as in many older midrange Motos). The Moto G5+ and G5S+ had active 'post' communities as did the G6...I got a G7 cuz of 4gb memory figured it'd be a big post EOL project/rom phone BUT I missed the fact that moto was following google with the whole dynamic update w/ dual A/B slots which killed our beloved TWRP custom recovery and nandrive image backup.
BUT is u weren't into rooting/tweaking then that explains why Android Police named it the #1 phone for running LOS! Esp. after Moto released thr Android 10 kernel source code!! This is the main reason I didn't sell/trade it off...and ofc my wife put one of those sky-blue 2pc cases from Poetic and claimed it! lol
Maybe i should

so there will be no custom roms for x5?
Would help if Xda opened a sub forum for the non pro model.
Yeah. I know this device just launched 5 weeks ago, but if I'd suspected the X5 5G would get so little love here at XDA, I might've gotten the X4 Pro instead...
I'm actually looking into compiling my own TWRP recovery for it, and an AOSP ROM when I've learned enough about custom ROM development.
Is there any way to request XDA consider opening a forum for a particular phone?

Well I guess you could PM one of the admins/mods, but final decision would be up to their goodwill (or lack thereof), evidently.
It would make a lot of sense to create a dedicated forum though, as the X5 is powered by the Snapdragon695 and not a 7xx series as the X5 Pro is, which *probably* means that ROMs for the latter wouldn't be flashable on the former -not without incurring risks anyway...

There's usually a firmware, boot and vendor img difference which does make it incompatible, in most cases, and would need some tweaking to make it work right. But you're welcome to give it a test run, learn from experience. There are times with OEMs are lazy and it does actually work.

Yep. It's uncommon to be able to use a different device's ROM even when the specs are similar. Unless you're using a gsi. It takes a while before custom roms start appearing after a phones release. Debloat and use as is would be my recommendation till then, if you already bought the phone. The Pro version is also likely to be more popular, among the enthusiast community, from what I can see.
So there's likely to be some trickle down effect of roms from the Pro versions to the non-pro

Which is ironic, because the X5p does not have any kind of possibility of storage expansion by SDcard (while the vanilla X5 does provide a shared SIM/SD slot), making even the 256Gb version utterly useless for my use cases...

To be fair, it's been a while since I've seen anything that has the 7 series chipsets to have a hybrid or dedicated SD slot. Just how the market playing field is, once you enter the mid-high range. Not great for the customer but that's capitalism for ya.
The Poco X5 5G may not be as popular as the Pro, but it's actually a very smooth phone if you don't play demanding games. Just received Android 13 update last night. My biggest gripe is the MIUI, which I don't like. After installing Nova7, the user interface is a lot more familiar and better.

For daily use, it is quite smooth, the camera performance is trash though. GCam fixes most of it but the videos are still grainy. The X5 might be catching on now as it has received a big discount on an e-commerce platform recently. Nova or Lawnchair makes the experience pleasing but you miss out the gesture navigation which is a bummer.
Hello!
Is it possible to turn off the images of the camera settings in the Portrait mode of the Poco X5 5G/Poco X5 Pro 5G?
If possible, then it would be possible to shoot video in video bokeh mode.
My phone turned itself off today. Has anyone had this issue before?

The Poco X5 5G may not be as popular as the Pro, but it's actually a very smooth phone if you don't play demanding games. Just received Android 13 update last night. My biggest gripe is the MIUI, which I don't like. After installing Nova7, the user interface is a lot more familiar and better.

Seconded !
I've used the Microsoft Launcher for a long while before I bought the X5 5G a week after its global launchdate, but in the long run on MIUI 13 it turned out to be just too goddamn much of a battery hog...
So upon reading a comment from another member here that he was very satisfied with Nova I decided to give it a try, and felt so at ease with it that barely 20mins passed before I bought the Premium version. xD
But I do sorely miss the MS launcher's leftmost pane tho (the one where you can take quick notes and display your Outlook calendar, which is what I used it most for). :/

Yup. I traced it down to a dirty fingerprint sensor : some oil or grease traces would make it wrongly detect a long press or multiple short presses and trigger a shutdown.
A good, energetic cleaning with a rubbing alcohol-imbibed tissue then a thorough drying fixed it right up!
Any new news on custom roms? I want to get the phone on sale but I dread using MIUI
