[Fixed] My SM-G955U Has No IMEI or Baseband - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

EDIT:
I was able to fix it! I had to install a custom ROM to obtain root and delete my EFS partition.
So, here is a bit of a story I will try to keep short.
I went to Vietnam and bought a S8+ from there.
It was a US S8+ from Sprint.
I used it fine there but when I came back to states I tried to put my Verizon sim in and it doesn't work.
I don't get any signal. But I am able to see Baseband and IMEI.
So, I tried to use Odin and flash one of the SM-G955U1 Firmware.
Now, my phone is weird and out with no Baseband or IMEI.
So I try to flash back to firmware it was on.
Same thing.
Any ideas why my S8+ is like this?

Can you get into recovery/download mode now? What was the last known version of software you know that was on your phone?
If you can get into recovery, what info are in those details?

What happens if you restore from the OEM function?

Try downloading custom recovery and flashing a custom rom. You will lose samsung pay but you might have a working phone it's a chance I would take if it was me. Your baseband is messed up try just flashing your carrier baseband . These are just ideas good luck
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app

If flashing a custom ROM will fix your phone then so will downloading latest official Samsung ROM and flashing via latest Odin .
The second option above would be the best to try unless you're happy to have a custom rom and lose Samsung pay and anything that relies on Knox being functional

Update on the post, I sent it into Samsung. I should hear word soon if they can fix it and how much if anything.

Jtag dead phone to life and rewrite IMEI
First of all my phone is the s8+ G955fd, but I am sure that the people that helped me can help most Samsung owners with bricked phones.
My phone ended up being stuck on the first boot screen, I couldn't get into recovery or download mode. I installed TWRP and after that I lost my IMEI numbers( dual sim), so I tried to reflash stock and thats when i became bricked. I searched someone to help and found reference to the Fonefunshop in England. I sent it there and they said that the eMMC chip was bad. I searched for someone who could write to it or put a new one on the motherboard . I found A2Z cellular in Ottawa Canada. They used jtag to restore it to stock and they told me that the Fonefunshop had not opened the phone which is necessary to use jtag as they claimed, so avoid them.
The phone was now back doing everything it should except the IMEI's were null like before. I gave them the original IMEI's and the phone is working like new.
If your Samsung is bricked these guys can probably fix it and it won't cost much to find out.

the SM-G955U has a locked bootloader, so people should not be telling you to flash a custom recovery or custom ROMs. there is only one way to get root on this phone, through the samfail exploit, and safestrap is the only working recovery. I don't believe it supports CDMA networks but I'm not 100% sure on that. I have this device and I'm only aware of GSM carriers using it.

Just an update on this issue. I still don't have a working Baseband or IMEI. Any clues?

I was able to fix it! I had to install a custom ROM to obtain root and delete my EFS partition via ADB.

Hi. Can you detail how you fixed you phone please? What custom rom did you use and the steps you used please? I have the same phone with the same problem.
Thanks

Be very careful with doing that. It can cause the EFS (the partition that controls IMEI, Mac and a few other things) to be completely corrupted. Which will cause the device to be useless without fixing it.
Now a little heads up. As messing with the IMEI is illegal in many countries (the US being one of them) There are only 2 ways to fix an IMEI issue allowed on XDA.
1. Restore the backed up EFS partition
2. Return it to the OEM to be repaired.

What did you do after you deleted EFS? I can delete in Combination but I dont get the IMEI number back.

Please I need all XDA members assist ,because of I mistake delete EFS with combination file on my G955U VZW , I have null imei number, then I repair it by flash qcn with z3x Samsung tool , but still I have IMEI number but emergency call only is still display without service ,

[Q] Sidekick 4G "null/null"

Hi. My friend from the US bought me a Sidekick 4G from T-mobile. I live in Canada and we can use it on a certain carrier but it has to be unlocked. I bought an unlock code already but as I was going through the unlock process, the IMEI number would show up as "null null". I don't wanna **** it up even more but is there any way to fix this?
I know there's a thread by cannondale0815 about how he fixed his Galaxy null problem but I'm scared the process won't work on mine. I'm just so frustrated with this phone
I'm an uber noob so I'm not really familiar with flashing or rooting.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
You can try using Odin to reflash the stock firmware, either KD1 or KG2.
But have you tried just using the code anyway? You did get the correct imei from the back of the phone right?

Thanks but I tried flashing KD1 already to its factory settings. Its baseband and IMEI is unknown AND it says that there's no firmware available.
I went to a guy and he said not to try the code because I could **** it up permanently.
I've seen forums here that say they've flashed something and fixed their null problem. The thing is I just don't know what to flash because all the other forums were about other devices.
Any help is appreciated.
did you have a backup involved in the unlock process that you used? which instructions did you use?
did you try checking the EFS clear option in ODIN?

Galaxy S6 35000006 IMEI problem after unlocking.

Hello
I unlocked my device via USB with srsunlock.nl
I rooted my phone prior to this as instructed in email sent to me.
It seems to have successfully unlocked my phone, however I am now unable to connect to any network carrier whatsoever due to my phone now displaying an IMEI of 35000006 which I am guessing is a null/fake IMEI? I have no backup efs files, no backup nv.data bin files. I have tried to root the phone again and reinstall a stock rom via odin but has made no difference, still having the same issue. Knox warranty is also void now (says so when putting phone in to download mode).
Model is Galaxy s6 G920F. The carrier it was originally locked to is EE (UK).
Is there ANY way to fix this problem or am I completely screwed? Please help!

Greetings,
Thank you for using XDA Assist. First, please do not give out your IMEI in open forum or to any untrusted source. This is confidential information.
In regards to your question, I will move this thread to your device's Q&A forum so the experts that own your device can assist you.
Good luck!

Does the software on the unlock will not automatically backup EFS or NV DATA?
The world has this kind of ridiculous unlock software exists?

Extremely weird stuff going with S6.

Hey, so I just bought a second hand s6. When purchasing I only checked the major hardware stuff like everything in *#0#* and the calling etc and didn't bother to check other stuff which is stupid on my part. Anyway, when I got home and tried to use themes nothing happened. The Theme Store button didn't do anything when I tapped it and still didn't work after I added a samsung account and everything. There a bunch of other issues as well such as all the options in the System Update menu being pretty much useless, they all did nothing when I tapped on them.
Sorta got fed up of all this and decided to do a factory reset. Once I get back into the phone after reset, the screen grid option that you get when you pinch in was greyed out which is really annoying since the 4x4 is just not for me. Then I decided to root it so I can just get a custom rom in and get rid of all these issues altogether but when I got into download mode it said the phone's version is G920P instead of G920F. The guy I bought from said it's the international G920F and it even says G920F in the about phone section. The confusing thing is that it instead says G920P when I get into download mode. I don't even know what it is anymore, is it sprint or is it international ?
Anyway, is there any fix to all the issues I've been having like the screen grid option being greyed, the system updates menu being useless and the theme store not working at all.
Also, what do I do about rooting and roms ? Do I treat it as a sprint variant or an international variant? It'd be a pretty massive bummer if it's sprint since there are pretty much no worthwhile roms for me.
Pls halp
Here's all the stuff it says in About Device:
Model Number: SM-G920F
Android version: 5.1.1

This bad or good ? ;-;
Also worth mentioning that it says 920F on the back as well. Would flashing the whole stock firmware of 920F through odin be a feasible option ? It says 920F on the back so it has to be that variant right ? If this is possible please direct me to a firmware I should flash and a guide of how to do it, bit of a noob here.
Bumping this up before going to sleep, any help would be appreciated, thanks.
When I get mine s6 there was a sticker at the back showing its serial number. It's written on its box also. If you have this you can use Samsung kias to flash the firmware designed for your phone.
There's an S/N at the back, I'm assuming this is the serial number. I want to root and install some custom roms though but I'm not sure how to go about doing that since I don't know what version my device exactly is.
Pls halp
Attached a screenshot with more info. Hope this helps.
I'm not sure what the previous owner did but your device code name zerofltespr is P variant.
I see, so I should treat it as a sprint variant for rooting and custom roms then ? Just making sure before I go through with the stuff so I don't brick the phone.
Also, anyone got up to date links for how to root and install custom recovery on the sprint version of the s6 ?
@Skyrus5150
Download the Phone Info app for Samsung, take a screenshot and post it here.
Settings show G920F, that can be changed by editing build.prop but the back cover shows 920F as well? That's the odd part.
The previous owner has somehow got the device name to show zerofltespr which is a G920P (Sprint). Not sure how he got a CDMA device code on a GSM device.
Boot into Download Mode, see what it says there, that can't be changed as far as I know.
It will show the actual model number, whether it's 920F or 920P.
Here you go, what should I do. Yeah the bootloader says 920p but the back is 920f, maybe the phone was opened or smith.
Pls halp
Downloaded root checker, according to it the phone's rooted as well. Downloaded TWRP Manager as well, should I just go ahead and install custom recovery with it and select S6 Sprint in the device options ?

Rooted with 0x0 KNOX, some dark magic is at work here. Maybe engineering bootloader?
Anyway, just download a G920P stock firmware and flash it. Then proceed to do a factory reset/data wipe in stock recovery and have your phone back to normal, which is a G920P.
Back says G920F, but it should show an IMEI and S/N as well, do they match those of your phone? I'm certain they don't, but still... check.

LOL, the back says 920F but I entered the IMEI into two different checking services and they both show it as a 925F (S6 Edge), this phone is going places.
Anywho, the stock firmware is supposed to be flashed through odin yes ? Could you please link me to a guide and links to download, maybe even let me know which specific firmware I'm supposed to install. Sorry, I'm a former LG user and I have no idea how Odin and all these shenanigans work. Also, the phone will remain unlocked even after flashing stock firmware, yes ? Currently using it in Pakistan.

Yes, stock firmware is going to be flashed with Odin. Will send links for downloading, and guide you as well.
Yes to your second question as well, once Samsung phones are unlocked, they will stay unlocked.

now the sim card works in other phones and when I remove it the device registers it is SIM CARD REMOVED but when I put it back in nothing happpens, and mobile networks settings is gone
*I started in stock 5.1.1 (MADE NANDROID BACKUP OF EVERYTHING INCLUDING EFS) and flashed twrp via odin > (everything still working)
*flashed XtreStoLite 2.4 (5.1.1) via twrp > (everything still working)
after several months
*flashed new 6.0.1 bootloader and modem via odin and tried to flash XtreStoLite 3.0 (6.0.1) via twrp > got stuck in bootloop...
*used smart switch to go back to stock 6.0.1> Everthing was OK until about a month later the phone suddenly restarted and doesn't recognize the sim card
* I tried factory reset
* I tried samsung but they gave it back saying I've tripped my knox flag
*I flashed 6.0.1 XtreStoLite bootloader, modem and TWRP again via odin
*I flashed XteStoLite 3.3.1 (6.0.1)
*I tried restoring from the first nandroid (stock 5.1.1 from the begining) and got stuck in bootloop again.
*reflashed XtreStoLite 3.3.1 (6.0.1) and tried restoring only the efs. still doesn't work.

I saw some threads talking about octoplus box but I still have my efs Backed up my and SN and IMEI still show up.
Please help me I am here I am willing to learn and search online. I've tried everything i've found online.
Hi.
Try to use Smart Switch > Software Update and Initialization to recover your firmware, hopefully you get your network back.
Tell me what happens, gl.
Sent from my SM-G920F using XDA-Developers mobile app
almost same thing on a long thread here, no solution so far:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/g920f-network-issues-t3291903
I am seriously considering it could be sim reader issue, or some cold solder somwhere on mbo.
My IMEI was also showing in settigs, but when dialed *#0011#, in stack 1, there was "IMEI NG", after write cert operation via octoplus, it says IMEI OK now, but NO SIM, and no mobile networks menu still.
Same like you SIM is detected when inserted or removed, and phone offers restart to access mobile networks, but after restart nothing changes, KNOX tripped by previous owner, phone was in three 3rd party repair shops, where they made even bigger mess than it was, when I brought it to them.
i had the same issue when i upgraded to mm so i sent to shop they had to downgrade it to 5.1.1 and use octobox to fix it
Thanks for replying Legend.
But even though I did the software Initialization in smart switch once before it is not working for me now.
I've tried twenty time while reinstalling and restarting the pc I even tried a different pc I get the same error message every time. "failed to run firmware upgrade unknown error occurred".
any other thing to try?
you could try to restore that backup you have, from when everything worked and then flash 5.1.1. bootloader and modem for that csc via odin before rebooting
According to Smart Switch with your sn it is ILO so you need 5.1.1 bootloader and modem from ILO 4 file fw package.
*I just managed to flash stock 6.0.1 via odin (even though It failed at hidden.img... it boots normally) still no sim card tough.
*I realized that maybe all of this happened because when I flashed stock via smart switch for the first time I didn't have my original s/n so I put one from the internet and it wasn't my region.
meaning I flashed stock of UK and it still worked for a month or so, so that's weird...
*Thank you brenner that is a good idea and I will try now
question how do I extract the bootloader and modem out of the fw? I just open the tar archive and take the boot.img and modem.bin files and flash them as is?
nvm found a guide

There are .tar-s which are single file, and 4 files, the ones with 4 files has separate bl/modem
btw, isnt sn written on back of the phone, along with IMEI?
OK, I've flashed the nandroid stock 5.1.1 (LMY47X.G920FXXU3COJ1) and its bootloader and modem from sammobile.. still doesn't work!!
How can this be? everthing is EXACTLY the way it was when it was working!
and no, my model at least doesn't have the S/N and IMEI written at the back, and I didn't keep the box
any other suggestion anyone?
*also there are so many post in subject if I ever find a solution I will make a guide.
-bump-
still no solution..
I've flashed back to current stock ILO...
Meanwhile looking for a lab with octoplus box, still would love solving this at home
At home or not, I would like to solve it too
Bought a second hand S6 the other day and was working perfectly fine until I carried out the update. Now on 6.0.1 and am getting the exact same problem, my SIM works in every other phone. Has anyone found a solution for this?
Not that I know of, except hw replacement, which cost as a used phone with 1+ years of warranty (6 months warranty on motherboard after replacement, on motherboard only)
But I am willing to donate to whoever finds a solution for it.
No i think your problem is a S/W problem, i have 2 G920F with this problem, one of them is 3 binary and another is 4 binary FW, now i work on it if i can solve this problem i told you here.

Fix a soft bricked g930f with backup from a good g930f?

I purchased a g930f off of Swappa and somehow soft bricked it to the point where it lost its imei and even if I get it to boot, it won't access my provider (ATT). I bought another one (yeah) and it appears to have exactly the same firmware that the bricked one did when I got it. I wonder if by making a nandroid backup of the new phone, I can get the old one working again, and somehow get the original imei reinstated on the bricked phone. I do NOT want to fake an imei, or do any other illegal thing, just get the first phone working again and hopefully reinstate its imei and serial number. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Try using Odin and download mode to get back to stock. That should bring back your imei. I think because you restored a backup from another phone, it tried to write the new imei on the old phone causing an error. Let me know how it goes.

I never did get back about your reply, but you were on track with your suggestion. I ended up finding the factory binary and flashing that, which got me back my IMEI and able to boot again, and then flashed the proper firmware. All is well since then.
