Having trouble switching back to Android Messages from Textra. - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hello all! I've got an odd issue. I tried to switch back to Android messages to use the new web chat. I made it my default sms and I'm not receiving messages / notifications at all. I only know this because I have Textra installed on and can see the messages I'm receiving. I've tried uninstalling Textra, restarting, clearing the cache, clearing storage, checking the notifications settings, and even uninstalling messages with a root uninstaller app. Any idea how to fix this?

Darn. That's no fun. I'd lose root and everything right? No other way?

Maybe try dalvick/cache wipe. Sounds like somthing got jacked but since I cant physically see the device, i have no idea what. Maybe open messenger under settings-apps-show system and wipe all data/do uninstalll reinstall and see if that fixes it?

No Messenger Notifications after reflash

I just reflashed the same ROM/kernel that I've been using for months (HFP2.4.2 and Trinity), but now I'm not getting any notifications from the Facebook Messenger app even though I'm getting notifications from every other app I use (e.g. Hangouts and Gmail).
It could be that it stemmed from the fact that I backed it up with its data using MyBackup Root, but since I've restored it, I've tried wiping its data, uninstalling/reinstalling (which includes the latest update to the app), wiping its data using Titanium, logging in and out, checking notification settings for the app, wiping Cache/Dalvik in CWM etc.
I'm not sure if there's something else I could do, or if there's an order to the way I should wipe the data (if that will in fact fix anything).
Thank you for any advice that you can offer.

Search for an older version (apk) and install that. Worth a shot.

Are you sure that you just don't have notifications disabled for fb messenger?

Thanks for the replies so far. I tried to roll back to two versions before the current one, but I am still not getting anything unless I'm in the chat with the person who's messaging in the app itself.
I tried turning on and off the notifications inside the app (like Chat Heads and the master notification setting), and at most I occasionally get chat head to pop up, but only temporarily and without any vibration.

Turns out this issue also extends to other apps like WordFeud and other games, and I've since tried other ROMS and Kernels, but still nothing.
Any ideas?

[Q] Messaging app force closing

Hey all..I have a completely stock and fully updated Droid Maxx...today my messaging app started force closing upon every incoming picture mail or if I try to send one.
Anyone else experience this?
The only fix I came up with is using hangouts.
I had this exact same issue.
Fixed it by wiping the app data/cache. Make sure to delete all your SMS threads as well.
I used the stock messaging app, and was able to backup all my texts with an app. Just had to make sure everything was wiped within the app before restoring.

Hmmm...I did try wiping the data/cache but I'm not sure if I deleted the texts first...I'll give it another try..
Actually, I disabled the stock app and switched to Hangouts in the meantime. It's really not that bad, so if I can't fix the stock app I'll be OK. Just hate having an issue with a stock phone....
Deleting all the existing threads was key for me, just wiping the cache didn't fix the issue.
My guess is some MMS got corrupted and the app was no longer able to handle it.
I didn't try changing my primary app since I like stock and the Chrome plugin.

[Q] Generic Question regarding Missing Text Messages

This is a generic question. I'm not looking for specific help tracking down the problem cuz there seem to be way too many variables. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced/noticed it. Or has any info numerous Google searches has not revealed.
So, every once in a while, a text message sent to me seems to not show up on my phone. The only way I know I got it is because Pushbullet syncs it to my PC and Firefox extension. But when I look in my messaging app (Google Messenger) it is not there. And if I do a backup using SMS Backup and Restore Pro it is not included in the backup.
So my phone must be receiving the message if Pushbullet mirrors it. Which makes me assume it is not a cell service issue. But it is not on my phone, messaging app, or SMS backups. Rebooting, switching SMS apps (tried 8SMS and Textra too), clearing app caches, etc. doesn't reveal said missing SMS's.
Background: Nexus 5, PAC-MAN rom 4.4 RC3, Google Messenger as main SMS app, various Xposed modules (but none that affect SMS), T-Mobile service.
It's only been a couple so far. But could have been more when my PC isn't on. And the reason I am concerned is cuz said SMS's are from pretty girls. So obviously I NEED to receive them
If anyone has any advice/info/sarcastic remarks/etc., I would appreciate it. Thxs!

I'd be looking at Pushbullet if I were you. Xposed is always a possibility.
Do the texts show up if you reboot the phone?

Nope. Tried that the second time I noticed and no luck. Also tried clearing cache/dalvik (just cuz).

Haha, nice try
Update: reflashed my ROM, set everything back up from scratch (hate doing that) except for Pushbullet. Bought a Sony Smartwatch 3 and using Coffee to txt from it. Got a txt this morning, and when scrolling thru it on my watch noticed a message that was not on my phone again.
I'm wondering if it's Messenger at this point. Gonna switch messaging apps and see how that goes.
Try switching to hangouts or something, also do you set the setting for default sms handler in settings?

I've switched to 8SMS from Messenger. I also went back to stock 4.4.4 and didn't let Google restore any app data. Messenger was the default SMS app. The only time I ever switched it was to restore a SMS backup for whatever reason and switched it right back. I didn't check at the time of missing texts if the default was changed, tho.
I just think they must've been deleted for whatever reason since they didn't show up in a backup. Been on stock with 8SMS for a few days and haven't noticed it so far. Maybe just a weird glitch with Messenger and letting the app data be restored when I reset the first time brought it back? Idk.

Unable to view/send messages

I just received the phone yesterday and am trying to send messages through the sytem app, but unfortunately, I'm neither able ot send, nor receive any messages. I tried 3rd party apps like google messenger but got no result. Any body else faced such an issue?
What can I do to change it?
Thanks!
Sounds weird, I've already read of this bug time ago on older EMUI versions, lately discovered that it was depending by mobile data speed selected (messages not working on 4G, works instead on every other velocity). Already thought of just backup data and wipe it? If not, which EMUI are u running? Type some more about your phone status
I think you should try the old solution, a factory reset

I tried reinstalling two different apps that weren't working and that worked great. However, I still have a problem with messaging. The system is saying that certain text messages have not been sent. But I know they were because people responded to them.
The default messaging app cannot be uninstalled so I am not sure what to do.

Tried another messaging app?
Both messaging apps have same problem.
I tried uninstalling Evolve, but it didn't help anything. This is more of a system problem where it thinks messages haven't been sent so they show up in red. I know they were sent. It's very odd. The problem went away for now in that it's been showing messages as sent, so I suppose I can ignore it.

That's one strange bug. Well I'm glad it went away.
