[Q] Messaging app force closing - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all..I have a completely stock and fully updated Droid Maxx...today my messaging app started force closing upon every incoming picture mail or if I try to send one.
Anyone else experience this?
The only fix I came up with is using hangouts.

I had this exact same issue.
Fixed it by wiping the app data/cache. Make sure to delete all your SMS threads as well.
I used the stock messaging app, and was able to backup all my texts with an app. Just had to make sure everything was wiped within the app before restoring.

Hmmm...I did try wiping the data/cache but I'm not sure if I deleted the texts first...I'll give it another try..
Actually, I disabled the stock app and switched to Hangouts in the meantime. It's really not that bad, so if I can't fix the stock app I'll be OK. Just hate having an issue with a stock phone....

Deleting all the existing threads was key for me, just wiping the cache didn't fix the issue.
My guess is some MMS got corrupted and the app was no longer able to handle it.
I didn't try changing my primary app since I like stock and the Chrome plugin.

Gmail not sending, please help me.

I have been having a serious ongoing issue with the Gmail app on my droid charge. Before I begin, know that I have experienced this across 3 roms (humble, gummy, infinity) and with two different droid charge devices. Basically, when I hit the send button on an email, it just grays out and doesn't do anything. This usually happens after 2-3 successful sends. It doesn't freeze or give any errors, the send option just becomes inaccessible. Choosing to send through the menu button option doesn't do anything too. The messages don't even go into the outbox, it just sits there and saves it as a draft after I exit. Please tell me I have just overlooked some obscure setting.
What I have tried to fix it unsuccessfully:
Clearing all data and cache for the gmail app
Uninstalling and reinstalling/updating the app
Removing the screen filter app from my phone (read about some possible interference with this app)
Wiping Cache and Dalvik via CWM
Restarting the phone, and also after each of the methods above
What has worked:
Wiping my phone via CWM or Odin (factory, not just cache and Dalvik) but this only works for the first few emails and goes back to the same issue.
I feel stuck and hate not sending emails. I know I can choose another app but I really just prefer the gmail app (that's not a crime is it?) Anyone else experience this? I have searched several forums and tried solutions listed there but with no luck.
this sounds strange... have you tried to add a different google account to your phone and see if it has the same issue with sending? you could then remove the affected one and re-add.
this is the only way to point the finger at the device... if the alt works then its your gmail profile. if it doesn't then it could be the stock .apk for gmail.
Tried that

I have tried with my personal and work gmail accounts as well as my "former" account and all three experience the same issue. I thought of that as well. I feel like I have tried everything, multiple accounts, different settings, updates, removed other applications and whatever else I could think of. Thanks.
Go to application data in the settings menu, find the gmail app and clear all of the caches you can. Re sync and it might work. I've had this issue and it cleared it up.

Idk if you just ignored his OP or what but he already said he tried this.
Im in the same boat different phone. My gmail app doesnt send for me either on my galaxy s 2 att, or my iconia.
Edit: i just read a post somewhere that said if you have seal with root permissions than somereason it keeps gmail from sending... take away itsnroot privlages and reboot (this fix worked for me, hope it helps)
As far as seal goes i hope tthey fix this issue as i like that app
I had seal and experienced the same problem with gmail. Uninstalled seal and gmail worked again. Never could figure out why it was happening.

Seems to have worked for me too. Can't believe that was the issue. Thanks for everyone's help!
I really hope they fix that. Its okay though, I think seal was slowing my phone down a bit. Everything is much more responsive now.

Mail Force Close

I am currently using InsertCoin 2.5.5 and I have an issue with the Mail app from HTC. It never works and I keep getting Force Close messages about it. I've tried fixing permissions but nothing works. I didn't mind it before but now it's interfering with my Contacts app and I'm getting really tired about it. Any suggestions?

try uninstall it and install again
I've tried to do that from the uninstall applications page but it doesn't allow me to do that. Do I have to use Titanium Backup?
Never mind I got it. I just had to wipe the data through Titanium Backup. No more force closes anymore.

[Q] Go SMS Pro - Sending Duplicates

Using Go SMS Pro for texting, but I am sending duplicate, or double, of sms messages. It's not every text, approx one in every 4. Running CM10 on the vzw SGS3.
Here's what I've attempted:
Disable all notifications in the AOSP Messaging app
Froze Messing apk in Titanium
Set "Stock SMS unistalled" in Go SMS Pro settings
Re-flashed the VRLF2 modem
Seems others have this problem, but no solution other than "use the messaging app". I've got 2 theories, but I am opening this up to discussion and if anybody has an angle I'm not seeing.
-I'll try using Handcent. If this works, it points there's a bug in Go SMS Pro. Else, it's across third-party apps meaning its either the AOSP .apk or ... radio?
additionally, this has only been occuring since I flashed CM10.1, lost data, and odin back to TW and back to normal on CM10. Been having spotty data and I am thinking this may be associated? I am certainly open to suggestions.

You could try clearing GO SMS Pro's app cache (Settings->Application Manager->All->GO SMS Pro->Clear Cache) or running a fix permissions utility. Uninstalling then re-installing may also fix it. While the above suggestions may not fix it, I figured I would give you some more possibilities to try.

[Q] Generic Question regarding Missing Text Messages

This is a generic question. I'm not looking for specific help tracking down the problem cuz there seem to be way too many variables. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced/noticed it. Or has any info numerous Google searches has not revealed.
So, every once in a while, a text message sent to me seems to not show up on my phone. The only way I know I got it is because Pushbullet syncs it to my PC and Firefox extension. But when I look in my messaging app (Google Messenger) it is not there. And if I do a backup using SMS Backup and Restore Pro it is not included in the backup.
So my phone must be receiving the message if Pushbullet mirrors it. Which makes me assume it is not a cell service issue. But it is not on my phone, messaging app, or SMS backups. Rebooting, switching SMS apps (tried 8SMS and Textra too), clearing app caches, etc. doesn't reveal said missing SMS's.
Background: Nexus 5, PAC-MAN rom 4.4 RC3, Google Messenger as main SMS app, various Xposed modules (but none that affect SMS), T-Mobile service.
It's only been a couple so far. But could have been more when my PC isn't on. And the reason I am concerned is cuz said SMS's are from pretty girls. So obviously I NEED to receive them
If anyone has any advice/info/sarcastic remarks/etc., I would appreciate it. Thxs!

I'd be looking at Pushbullet if I were you. Xposed is always a possibility.
Do the texts show up if you reboot the phone?

Umm, forward them to me for safekeeping?
Sorry, no helpful insight here. =\

Nope. Tried that the second time I noticed and no luck. Also tried clearing cache/dalvik (just cuz).

Haha, nice try
Update: reflashed my ROM, set everything back up from scratch (hate doing that) except for Pushbullet. Bought a Sony Smartwatch 3 and using Coffee to txt from it. Got a txt this morning, and when scrolling thru it on my watch noticed a message that was not on my phone again.
I'm wondering if it's Messenger at this point. Gonna switch messaging apps and see how that goes.
Try switching to hangouts or something, also do you set the setting for default sms handler in settings?

I've switched to 8SMS from Messenger. I also went back to stock 4.4.4 and didn't let Google restore any app data. Messenger was the default SMS app. The only time I ever switched it was to restore a SMS backup for whatever reason and switched it right back. I didn't check at the time of missing texts if the default was changed, tho.
I just think they must've been deleted for whatever reason since they didn't show up in a backup. Been on stock with 8SMS for a few days and haven't noticed it so far. Maybe just a weird glitch with Messenger and letting the app data be restored when I reset the first time brought it back? Idk.

Having trouble switching back to Android Messages from Textra.

Hello all! I've got an odd issue. I tried to switch back to Android messages to use the new web chat. I made it my default sms and I'm not receiving messages / notifications at all. I only know this because I have Textra installed on and can see the messages I'm receiving. I've tried uninstalling Textra, restarting, clearing the cache, clearing storage, checking the notifications settings, and even uninstalling messages with a root uninstaller app. Any idea how to fix this?

Darn. That's no fun. I'd lose root and everything right? No other way?

Maybe try dalvick/cache wipe. Sounds like somthing got jacked but since I cant physically see the device, i have no idea what. Maybe open messenger under settings-apps-show system and wipe all data/do uninstalll reinstall and see if that fixes it?
