Is it possible to reduce the height of the Navbar?
For now you could try enabling the developer settings, then go to smallest width and set it to 454. That's what I have and it is smaller, but everything will be smaller then. You can try different values though

it is permanent, you set it and it will remain, even after reboot.
how can you have problems typing the right letters, just because the navbar is slightly bigger as some other phones and same size as pixel devices?
Typing the correct Letters
Came from the U11 and it feels differently. And the huge Navbar doesn't look nice

Yea and that's why I've set the smallest width in developer settings to 454. Feels just right and navbar is small. Similar to Huawei devices

I somehow managed to have the nav bar slide down like in full screen mode. But after a reboot the nav didn't want go away.
Just Root your phone, install Xposed and use GravityBox. Some apps (like Spotify) will show a black space between app and navbar but most of the apps uses the space freed by the smaller Bar.
Edit: it seems that only apps compiled against an older sdk version has this bug with the black space.

Is there anyway possible to change the DPI before we obtain root?
Thanks!
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
No, you would need to edit build.prop afaik that is the only way. We have root now, but only /system/xbin is writable so I am not sure if you can change dpi, I will test it out.
You always need root regardless of the methods. But you can do it with the root currently available to the m8. Via xposed and app settings.

Probably. Though I don't use that launcher. I notice that launcher is called Blinkfeed. so if you change the DPI of HTC Blinkfeed it will probably effect the launcher.
I use Nova so I just change the DPI of Nova for the same effect. I don't like the limited number of dock spaces in the blinkfeed launcher and I honestly have no use for blinkfeed itself.

I'm running at 410 I think and it is great. Finally I have a sensible dpi for a 5 inch screen.... it looks like a toy at 480dpi what is HTC or anyone else thinking?! Too bad sense gets little bugs when you change the dpi. e.g notifications are slightly cut off on the bottom until expanded.

Can I ask how you guys are editing the dpi? I have tried using a couple different methods that I have always used but since you have to reboot in order for the change to take effect, it isn't working. I'm using nova and obviously the weak sauce root.

Hello!
So long story short I have blocked updates on my S8+ because I like my Navbar Black. But recently I removed the "block" and it registrered the update, but didn't download it. But now I have this annoying red "1" batch on the settings shortcut (the one located over the notifications-bar toggles). Anyway to remove this?

Hey try clearing data for software update and settings app . Mostly clearing for software update app will be enough.
Seriously, take the update, it is security relevant and has the hiding navbar. Use the navbar app app (yes), to keep it any color you like. Free and lightweight.
I seriously urge you to take the update because of the patches in there.

I have been considering taking the update.. Mostly because I've heard there should be another update on the they where you can control battery hocking app more.
That said I can already hide my navbar with Custom Navigation Bar (app), BUT I hate not having the navbar there at all times.. It's so annoying..
Also are you 100% sure Navbar apps can overwrite the system color?
Also I've heard people say the navbar is no longer transparent on the homescreen? And that is just ridiculous..

Can you tell me which other colors you can use now?
Nav bar is transparent on home screen, I can confirm.
Screenshot attached.
Just tried "Navbar apps" by Damian Piwowarski in app store but it only works partially. It will turn the bar black when I am inside the navbar apps app and it is black when i open the app store, contacts screen, chrome, gallery, citymapper and some others, but on the home screen in Nova (the worst one since it looks ridiculous with my black background), and in bluemail and CM browser it is still white. Perhaps it is a different app @corwin_amber was talking about?
I think, we are both talking about the same app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.damianpiwowarski.navbarapps
I am using Nova Prime launcher, however and even Substratum for Samsung (no Root, would never do that) to theme everything to my likes and needs.
To me, personally, having a secure device is important, maybe different priorities (which is completely fine to me).

Use that app and set the static colour to black
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.axndx.prithvee.pixelnavbar
Then use this app and get the buttons placed correctly.
This isn't perfect and sometimes the nav bar has a mind if it's own but works in most apps
It also has the pixel animations
Also the nav bar has the be locked in the "up" position
Also I'm using cornify free in this pic
When I make this and I see duplicate navigation icons (one from the app and the original from the OOS launcher), I try every setting and no luck...

Yeah so u can adjust the buttons in the pixel nav bar app. Make them sighly smaller than the oos ones. For me the oxygen os ones are the "outline" and the pixel ones fill in the space.
See this pic. The light gray is oos

Thanks with moving one over the other it works. But I thinking of rooting my phone not waiting for OOS Oreo update. And make customization a lot easier!

Well I had the animation without root. Still using this guide.
Try to use telegram with Navbar, and see what happens when you use the keyboard and try to attach something to the message
Guys, sorry for the request, I'm not very skilled in the programming but I guess it's easy to create a flashable .zip that substitutes only the icons of the OP5t navbar with those of the Pixel, without animations. Would someone do it? It would be a more elegant solution and without the horrible gray edges that you see using the play store app.

Its actually really easy t get the pixel navbar.
If you use substratum. Just download awesome navbar and press pixel and install. That's it. For nougat it requires root, if ur on oreo beta it does not. (Only adb)

Hey there
As the title says I am searching for a way to make the navbar smaller on Oreo
Saw many threads where ppl wanted to disable it but that's not what I am looking for
On Nougat I had some apps that made the navbar smaller but on Oreo it seems that those are not working anymore
Or maybe I am doing something wrong
Because I don't get substratum also not working (I know that changing navbar height with substratum is not working on Oreo atm?)
It's just working one time and that's it
Hope somebody can help me
No one? Please, the bar is very large, we need to oreo, please
Same here, updated to Oreo "crap" release and the navbar is HUGE! I want it a lot thinner. No solution I used before works now.
Until now nobody could give a solution or some mod?
I always used Renovate Ice ROM, with RiCE Tweaks app that allowed such customization, and much more. Not sure if it works with stock rom though. I agree, I always set my navbar to ~half of the original one, but that was also the case in nougat.

My substratum pack can disable it, but not set a height. Look up System Mods on play store.
Its under System UI -> Remove Nav Bar Immersive. Then make sure you install my app called Immersive and set it for Nav Bar.

with xposed and gravity box its possible to change the hight of navbar.
Just change the dpi in developer options, it won't make it shorter but the buttons smaller, looks so much better in my opinion.

Same here.
Looking for this.
Hello,
One of the reason I hate holes/notches it that you loose real state of your gorgeous screen taken by ultra high status bar. Back in a day (before notches) status bar was as high as clock text with couple of pixels above and under it... Now it's a big massive space under and above.
I minimalized the space above by using adb (screenshot attached) :
adb shell wm overscan 0,-30,0,0
(BTW sometimes it resets back to normal view, does anybody know hot to make it permanent?)
But space below still irritates me...
Does anybody knows any mod (I'm rooted and with Magisk) to modify it?
You can check "system UI tuner" but doubt it can do that.
I did try but no luck...
Magisk, EdXposed & Gravitybox or Renovate Ice rom
