Is there anyway possible to change the DPI before we obtain root?
Thanks!
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
No, you would need to edit build.prop afaik that is the only way. We have root now, but only /system/xbin is writable so I am not sure if you can change dpi, I will test it out.
You always need root regardless of the methods. But you can do it with the root currently available to the m8. Via xposed and app settings.

Probably. Though I don't use that launcher. I notice that launcher is called Blinkfeed. so if you change the DPI of HTC Blinkfeed it will probably effect the launcher.
I use Nova so I just change the DPI of Nova for the same effect. I don't like the limited number of dock spaces in the blinkfeed launcher and I honestly have no use for blinkfeed itself.

I use nova as well, I changed the dpi on that and like the look. I just need the statusbar icons and text to be smaller since everything overlaps for me from the abundance of icons I have shown. I'll look into app settings to see if that can be modified

I'm running at 410 I think and it is great. Finally I have a sensible dpi for a 5 inch screen.... it looks like a toy at 480dpi what is HTC or anyone else thinking?! Too bad sense gets little bugs when you change the dpi. e.g notifications are slightly cut off on the bottom until expanded.

Can I ask how you guys are editing the dpi? I have tried using a couple different methods that I have always used but since you have to reboot in order for the change to take effect, it isn't working. I'm using nova and obviously the weak sauce root.

The HTC keyboard doesn't have that issue and also supports swipe. I agree that is annoying though. It is all temporary though till we get S-off which shouldnt be long now.

ok so i had the INFUSE, where i would just edit the build prop and change the DPI of the screen....and it worked great. but it does not seem to have the same effect on the skyrocket...i notice alot of dead space on the screen when doing this that was NOT on the infuse. it made things smaller in proper proportion to the screen, on the skyrocket it seems to make the Screen windows smaller and odd looking.
any ideas?
nope doesn't seem like anyone figured this out outside of using a different launcher & dialer.
I switched to go launcher, even though touch wiz seemed to work pretty well. kept the dialer for now.

so if i pic another launcher it will eliminate the dead space at the bottom of the screen?
yes. the dead space is just due to touchwiz being setup just for the one resolution. other launchers are set up to do more as they aren't device specific.
The dialer will still have dead space, you can get go contacts/go dialer if you choose.
Does changing the density this way cause the same problem as using the density changer app on the market? If you change the density with the app it makes most apps on the market imcompatible and will not allow you to download them.

This is old news but I was wondering if anyone got this to work. I really hate the taskbar on honeycomb and usually go without it by using HoneyBar but the obvious drawback is that I have to guess at notifications or bring it back up. I tried it but it would not work for me.
The taskbar wasn't as annoying on the 10.1 but now it just feels downright intrusive to the screen. I tried StatusBar+ but that was even worse than the stock taskbar.
Maybe I'm alone on this...
US Wifi version 16gb stock, no kernals, rooted
Edit: I know I can use ADW or Go Launcher and already do. I just want that 2.x style notification bar back.
yes i believe this works on all honeycomb. just change your lcd denisty. there are apps that can do it or you can manually edit build.prop.
I guessed as much but the video was far too fuzzy to make out which file LCD density is changed from in Root Explorer.
I tried Blade Buddy and LCDDensity from Market to get around that but no dice when set to 170 as in the video. I might have been doing it wrong however. Do you know what value is necessary to switch to the 2.x style?
And thank you for confirming that bit of information. Weird as it sounds I would rather be wrong and dumb than have the option of 2.x style left unopen to me.
Edit: Sorry my bad. Can't read. I'll try editing build.prop immediately. Although I still am unsure as to the optimal value but I will give 170 a twirl again.
Edit: I can't seem to change it. I tried editing build.prop in /system but it told me it was a read only file. So I tried opening it in text editor inside Root Explorer but when I checked afterwards it was still set to 160.
I used LCD density and changed it to 171 (using killall), and it worked for me. I'm using adw ex as my launcher.

I just got it to work but the oddest thing was that I had no notification bar at the top. Talk about a mixture of joy and rage...
Edit: The reason for no notification bar on top was my usage of Go Launcher EX as my default. I will miss using it but it appears stock and ADW EX do have the notification bar enabled so I have no choice but to switch. Thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it.
Edit: Thank you again for all your help but does your notification bar work properly? I can't seem to get Google Talk/Gmail/Email alerts through it. I also cannot open anything in Settings.
Just tested email and i the notification worked.

Just checked. Ya same here. I don't mind I just have more room on the home screen. I just know this was the best setting for Gallery. If I remember right it did the same to the Dial pad too on my Note 3. That was the only bad thing.

Ya seems that AOSP was never struck with this issue, only Touchwiz based roms. I use Nova to get around the homescreen sizing.
Thanks for the share. I will have to give it a try.
I have been using the xposed module app settings. Nice module for anyone who is not familiar. Allows settings for dpi, force full screen, etc on a per app basis which is good I think as some apps I have a different dpi than others.
I agree with your thoughts on 360 for this device.

No actually at&t s5, maybe thats the issue. Ill try asking around in the att forum.
Hmm wouldn't think that the build props would differ as far as basic device info, but maybe. Defiantly keep info posted here if you figure something out just for our future reference.
Well, just for kicks tried to add the line again and lo and behold it worked lol. So for future reference, if you are missing the lcd density line in your build.prop, adding it to the bottom works.

I thought I'd share with everyone that the app/home replacement named THEMER is finally LG G3 Compatible as of today.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycolorscreen.themer&hl=en
If you aren't familiar, all you do is install the app, chose from one of over a hundred themes you like, and apply it. Widgets, backgrounds, everything on yours will look just like the pictures in the app gallery.
I've been using it for quite some time on my Nexus 5, and was happy to find out it worked fine on the G3 via restore from TIBU when I upgraded.
Doesn't work for me, can't get no themes. Says it's officially supported but says me phone isn't compatible.

You have to be using a stock/oem DPI and navigation bar height. If you change either, it won't work well if at all.
I updated this morning and it is working fine for me still. Perhaps uninstall and reinstall?

Nope.
Actually, the only other way to get it to work I read about in their subforums here. You have to change the DPI and Navbar in a manner that still gives you a supported resolution in the end. I don't have any problems with the stock nav bar, though I've got mine themed. some of the themed navbars have small buttons on them.
If you can install the app, you should be able to look at themes, you just can't use the Browse Themes/Trending/newest/Most Popular sections, When you apply others, they may not look right since your resolution is off. I don't think they plugged this loophole yet.

Don't know what the issue is. DPI has to be stock, status bar needs to be stock size and so does nav bar. If they all are, it should work fine.
If they are, and it isn't, you should post in their forums.
