So, with today's announcement that Android Messages had a Web client, I wanted to give it a try.
Except testing it, mms wouldn't send or receive.
So, what gives? Any fix?

What service provider? Maybe check your apn.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I have checked my apn. Everything else is fine.
I think it s a Xiaomi phone issue. Guess I just won't buy anymore.
Were you even able to use android messages? I restored all of my SMS, yet Android Messages still displays zero threads.

Yeah , it didn't restore my threads. Didn't bother me much because I can start new.
Regular texting works fine.
It's just MMS.
I was advised before I ever bought the phone that this is a Xiaomi issue. I'm not sure why, but so far using the stock app hasn't bothered me. I'd like the added functionality of group messages and the web client, however not at the expense of MMS.
I usually have issues with Xiaomi devices and 3rd Party SMS apps, however android messages works fine for me. I'm on T-mobile in the US. MMS working fine both ways. I did have to manually input my phone number because it couldn't read it from the SIM though in Android Messages < Settings < Advanced < Phone Number

Did you add the country code to your phone number as well? Going to try this. It's annoying that Android messages seems to pull from a separate database than MIUI Messenger, but it's even more annoying how MIUI messenger handles group conversations.
Also did you edit any of your APN Settings? I can't seem to get it to work.

My SMS database is the same as the stock MIUI message app right now. Maybe you should uninstall and reinstall? I did actually add the country code intially but it seems to remove it automatically. But yes group messaging is the only reason I switched apps too. It's such a basic feature, I can't believe they haven't implemented it yet

That's odd. I used SMS Backup and restore, and the messages showed in the MIUI app, but not Android. Now when I try to send MMS in the Android App it immediately fails. Did you update your APN settings manually? Or was it just the cell phone number?

My messages were copied over from my old phone when I used the NFC touch to set them up. I didn't know that was going to happen but I'm totally ok with it, however I have the same issue in that they show up fine in MIUI Messages but not Android Messages. I also confirmed my phone number is present in Android Messages and tried to send an MMS but it still failed. I'm on Verizon with a Global 6/64 version of the phone on the latest MIUI 9 update.

I think the difference is I've owned a Xiaomi device and my SMS was restored by their cloud process. I've also used textra and the SMS shows up there for me as well so maybe that's it. But I did adjust the APN, but I just had to select the correct one from the list, I didn't have to manually edit anything.
I haven't been able to get Android Messages to send MMS, but if i switch to MIUI messages it works, and it also works in Pulse SMS. I blame the android messages app. I had trouble with it in the past on a previous phone too. For now i'm sticking with Pulse

I couldn't get Pulse to work either. I wasn't receiving group messages at all. Only Textra has worked for me so far.
Messages is working fully for me on global miui 10 beta. It can see SMS restores by 3rd party backup and MMS is working perfectly too.

I cracked my Mi Mix 2s screen so bought a Mi 8 to try something different. Same issue. However.... Just today I got an update notification for the latest Miui 9 Global stable rom. And guess what MMS and Android messages are working now!!!!! Guessing it will be the same result on the Mi Mix 2s. I'm running MIUI Global 9.6.7 (OEAMIFD)
If you want to use third party app like Textra or pulse to send mms you juste have to allow "display over other apps" for that particular app in the privacy settings of your xiaomi phone

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with MMS group messaging on my Nexus 5 using google hangouts. When i send a attempt to send a group MMS (text only), my phone simply sends individual SMS messages to each of the recipients. Similarly, if someone includes me in a group message, I receive it as an SMS coming only from the sender (can't see the other recipients).
This used to work flawlessly for me until about a month ago, and then it suddenly stopped working and i cannot figure out the cause.
Some other info that might be useful: I'm on AT&T, running CM11 nightlies, and am using the version of hangouts released yesterday (though it did not work on the previous version either). I have tried both the AT&T LTE (default) and AT&T Phone APNs and neither seem to work. I also tried using the stock MMS.apk and had the same results when trying to send group messages.
Any info on this issue would be very helpful, thanks!
Just wanted to add that a friend of mine who is also running hangouts on CM11 (although on verizon) has a check box for enabling group messaging in the hangouts SMS settings, and this option is absent from my phone

Just curious, did you try deleting hangouts and re-downloading the new apk? Maybe something got corrupted when flashing a CM11 update? Or possibly the gapps from that flash?

Just activated my Mate 9 in the US a few hours ago on AT&T. Seems like calls and texts are being sent/received fine. However, when I start a new text, start typing a contact that is in my Contacts (that I synced to the phone via Google), the contact comes up, but when I select it I get an error message: "Invalid Recipient <(732) 283-0192)> He or she will not receive the message", without the quotes. Not sure if it's related, but I am also not seeing all recipients on group texts that I confirmed had multiple recipients that are in my Contacts.
Any ideas?
It's a bug in the SMS messaging stock app. Try installing another like Google Messenger and it'll work

I had the same error on my Mate 8 (on att) when i moved to one of the international roms, it was always the number format that caused issue on mine. Ended up downloading an app to make all phone numbers the standard US format

Supposedly it's a bug in the stock SMS app. I'm using Chomp now and no issues. And there's no way I'm changing the country code in every one of my Contacts LOL!

I know this is late but is this a known bug in all international versions? Or is it just the way the stock app is programmed in all international versions. My brother has this and it works with country code added but is a hassle and wants to know if he should get an exchange or if it'll be the same with the new one.
Another vote for Textra...I'm still using a Mate8, textra is perfect.

Mine works fine with ChompSMS.
I tried Pulse but still not working, will give ChompSMS a try. I have tmobile
I've tried the different settings here https://apn.gishan.net/settings/1654_40_project_fi_apn_settings_for_huawei_mate_9.php
I've tried different messaging apps, Textra is my main messaging app however Signal and the stock Messaging app on the phone show the MMS messages that won't download where as Textra doesn't show anything but the notification saying failure to download.
I have the Project Fi app installed and made sure to give it every permission I can within the app settings menu and it gives me the T077 error which I expected since the Mate 9 is not a "supported" phone but I have good T Mobile service in my area. I've tried changing all the different MMS settings in Textra, tried changing APN's in the phone settings, making sure everything was on IPv4 instead of 6 and I know my cell data works with the phone, it's JUST MMS not working for some reason.
Anyone have any ideas or fixed this yet? Would rooting help in any way? This is a really nice phone coming from a Project Fi Nexus 6P and I don't want to return it because I can't get MMS to work, but the fact that it's not working is a deal breaker.
Edit: I ordered another SIM and a Data Only SIM from Project Fi to test out in the event I can't fix it within some settings.

Not sure if this will help or not. I am on Cricket Wireless and Textra is the only app I can download MMS. I had to go to settings/MMS/ and change MMS behavior to "Legacy". It fixed it for me. Hope that helps.
*SOLVED* (See my post #11)
Hello all,
I'm having trouble getting any text on my U12+. I've seen one other case on androidCentral forums but not much of any results. Figure i would chime in and see if anyone else figured this out.
I had this issue as well. I had to go to a Verizon store and get a new sim card, which he activated in my old HTC 10 then put into the U12+. After that the tech suspended my sms service then reactivated and I was good to go. The only issue I have is that I can not receive MMS messages from any 3rd party app, so I am stuck using the stock one.
Call Verizon -- spent 3 minutes with a level 1 technician who re-provisioned the phone for sms & mms. All is working as expected (although the stock messaging system wouldn't send GIFs, but I downloaded Textra and it works fine).

Soooooooo, it turns out there's an MMS bug with Textra which hasn't been fixed yet. I tried all the suggested steps (clean install, change MMS behavior, modify APN settings, etc) and MMS doesn't work with Textra. I emailed the developers and we'll see what happens.
I then downloaded Pulse and everything works as expected with that app. Not sure about any other third party messaging apps right now.

I emailed textra support over the weekend and after running through all the settings, they had me install android messages and that did not work with MMS as well. I tried with a few other 3rd party apps and they came to the conclusion that it is an android Oreo bug and they can't do anything to fix it.
Thanks everyone! I will try the steps mentioned above and report back.
Interestingly enough mms receive works for me on Verizon messages and the default htc text app. It does not work (just receiving pics) in Textra or Android messages. This feels like an OS side issue? I was on the phone with tier 2 support when I first got it and they reprovisioned twice. Then said just use the apps that work lol

and then my text and mms started coming through in android messages. also voicemail. apparently that was also affected.

Have you tried using a 3rd part app for texting like Textra to see if it works? I can only use the default stock app but called to see if this would fix anything on my end. Level 2 support told me that the CDMA list feature was already activated and they could not remove it from my account as it was active.

Textra developer suggested turning off MMS Auto Retrieve in stock messaging app, rebooting, and trying to do MMS with Textra again. It didn't work for me, but can't hurt you to try it with android messenger. Even with Textra MMS timeout issues, Pulse is working perfectly for me. Maybe give that app a shot? Pulse works great, wonder why other apps are having issues. Thanks for the recommendation!
I'm running the latest beta of MIUI 10 that came OTA this morning. Since then I have not been able to send MMS messages, and it doesn't seem like I'm receiving them either. I've tried both in the stock messages app and in Android Messages. Anyone else have this issue?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/apn.gishan.net/en/apn/verizon/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s?amp=1
This fixed it for me
This fixed it in the stock app but still unable to use the Android Messages app. Gonna suck if we have to deal with that not working again, it's far superior to the Xiaomi app. I also have to wonder why this step was necessary in the first place as it was working 100% normally before 8.9.7 with no APNs entered manually by me.
Do you have the 8/256GB model and can you go into settings to confirm the phone model number it's reporting if so?
6/64 global model.
Reporting that its model name is: M1803D5XA
I am in the same boat as you on VZW. The weekly update is out and wondered if it has been fixed. I'll try it myself and report back, unless you get there before i do.
EDIT: MMS is working in the new update 8.9.13. Just make sure you select the VZWINTERNET APN in the SIM card settings, its already set up. It still doesnt show delivered if you select delivery reports in Android Messages settings. But i can live with that for now.
EDIT: Its still not working correctly. No notification sounds, or pop-up notifications even after allowing permissions etc.
I removed the APN I set up the other day and installed the 8.9.13 update and MMS didn't work at all for me. Xiaomi messaging app is also ignoring the notification sound I have set and playing the stock sound. I'm going to try to add that APN back and see if my stock app will work again.
